This was to be our one night of “luxurious accommodation” after touring for 10 days in b&b’s. Turns out that the b&b’s were the luxury (Water’s Edge Cottage on Loch Lomond, Heatherfield House on Skye and Springfield Lodge in Stirling, all superb 5*). Paid £229.50 for one night back in March for a Superior double room, which now looks nothing like the current photo on the web site. Old fashioned especially the bathroom, room overlooked the loch but through a small window you needed to be standing up to see through. Decided not to eat here so it was fish and chips in the car in Fort Augustus. Much more expensive than the rest so our verdict was “very “disappointing” and a poor choice. Wine by the bottle not the glass!

We ate here on our recent Highlands trip. We were super looking forward to this meal, booking it well in advance based on the good impression provided by the website, which makes the Inch Hotel look absolutely spectacular. In reality, walking up the drive it’s clearly a bit more dated that it appears online. That’s reinforced when you enter, the decor is a bit aged. Initially we were the only people in the dining room and the atmosphere was a bit awkward, the music in particular didn’t quite match the aesthetic. Saying all of that, the service was very good and it got a bit busier later on. The food also was fairly good - not great - but good. We had better food in Scotland but we didn’t have a reason to send anything back. My bridie was tasty, as were my sausage and mash main. My partner had fish for her main and was impressed. We both had sticky toffee pudding for desert, although I liked it more than she did. Not a bad meal overall, perhaps not quite worth the money but could definitely do with a little investment and new music to provide a better first impression.

This is the second time we've stayed here. The first time being 5 years ago. It was delicious then and it's still delicious now. The food is flavoursome and you can tell that there has been some care and thought put into the dishes. The staff were amazing and very thoughtful. They did well accommodating the children. It's about 1 minute outside of Fort Augustus with good parking. We'll worth the visit.

What a gem, great dog friendly hotel with view over loch ness and access to stunning walks. Big bright rooms with simple but stylish decoration, comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. The staff were amazing, great fun and very efficient. We ate in the hotel restaurant and it was the best meal of our Scottish tour so far. Great tasting food, from local producers. Vegetables perfectly cooked and the lightest polenta I have ever eaten. Breakfast was on a similar par. Highly recommend and we weren’t kidding when we threatened to bring the beast back.

This was our second visit to the restaurant and we enjoyed last year’s experience. This year’s was disappointing. Our arrival was less than welcoming. A man - I assume the manager - met us and when my friend said ‘ Hi we have a table for 7’ he replied ‘Oh no it’s only for 5 and you’re late! You’re tables been given away you’ll have to wait in the lounge’. It was 2 minutes past 7 which was the time booked for the 5 of us! We went to the lounge and ordered 4 G&T’s with 2 tonics - he brought 3 and a glass of white wine. When seated at the table we ordered more white wine. There were 4 choices and our choice was out of stock so we ordered another which we were told we would need to wait for as they’d need to put it in the freezer as it wasn’t chilled. When we asked why this was he said they’d had 2 bottles ordered that night and they’d not expected that ( strange considering shortness of wine list and the fact one was not even available). When the still warm wine arrived we were given clunky, kitchen water style glasses. We asked for them to be changed to an appropriate white wine glass similar to the one my friend had been served her pre-dinner wine in. He said this was not possible as there was only one of these. Really? The meal was ok - nothing spectacular but quite tasty. However the girls serving were great. The comparison between their welcoming, cheery attitude to us was in stark contrast to that of the manager and definitely stopped us giving a one star review.

Very strangely uncoordinated menu, with some dishes incorporating totally incompatible ingredients. No care or skill displayed in the kitchen, with bland sauces desperately needing reduction and seasoning. Very surprised it has 2 rosettes as this place falls below 1 rosette standard in our opinion. Not recommended.

Booked here for evening meal while staying in Fort Augusta for the night. Staff were nice and courteous. The menu was very limited but seemed varied. We both chose the hake main. Sorry to say the fish was poached nice but the cabbage was over cooked, the potatoes were plain and the sauce was just insipid water. Overall the meal as just OK. Not a great experience but the staff were lovely.

This was our first meal out for over a year due to Covid and the meal was excellent in every way. Obviously coved restrictions were in place so the restaurant was not full and the tables well separated. I had a pasta special for a starter which was good but my wife had the pea and wild garlic soup which she said was the best pea soup she had ever had. The mains were also excellent, Scrabster brill with Kinlochbervie mussels was beautifully delicate and the chicken en croute perfectly cooked. For desserts I had a delicious parfait and my wife had the sticky toffee pudding which she declared as even better than Duncan’s at the Glenfinnan House Hotel (sorry Duncan). Overall a great experience in a beautiful hotel with wonderful services and stunning food.

The hotel allows dogs.Dog not allowed in restaurant - No issue, entirely appropriate.Dog not allowed in room alone - No issue entirely appropriate.HOWEVER:Dog not allowed in bar.Dog not allowed in lounge.I fully accept that not all patrons will be dog lovers but one would have thought perhaps a specific area could be designated for those who are staying with their dog.As dogs are not allowed in any public rooms or alone in the room this means your dog must be locked in your car (not acceptable), when using these facilities or if travelling with someone you must take it in turns to use the hotel public rooms for which you have paid. When informed of the hotel rules we were further informed that there were establishments in the local town that would accept dogs. We then walked for 15 minutes in the rain to find somewhere that allowed dogs. This was a local pub (The Lock Inn) that served excellent food complimented by local beer and spirits with a very warm welcome. The room in the hotel was very nice and what we saw of the public rooms, looking through the doors as we could not enter as we had the dog, were equally as attractive. Did not have breakfast or use the bar or lounge area during our visit and as a result feel a little short changed to say the least.Come on the Inch Hotel, if you say you accept dogs then provide vour customers with the full information before they book.

We were here for two days/nights with two kids (9, 11 years old). The room was fine and we found everything we needed.Having dinner in the restaurant was a bit disappointing: The only vegetarian dish with homemade pasta was sold out (they brought spaghetti instead) and the portions for the kids were extremely small so they still were hungry even after having had a starter...For breakfast the menue promised fresh fruit salad, which was run out on our second day and the waiter didn‘t react on our question about it.....For a house which is doing marketing with a „star decorated an awarded chef“ this is definitively a sad performance.

The Inch Hotel is such a lovely place to stay while visiting the Highlands. We were so lucky to stay as part of a 2 day tour. It features a cozy little bar, lovely dining room and a great sitting room with comfy chairs and sofas, a burning fireplace and a lovely view. The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were quite modern, mine featured a jacuzzi tub. We dined in their dining room and were so pleasantly surprised by the menu. I’m attaching it here. My brother had the local rib eye beef with chips and and I had the local lamb served with the most delicious eggplant gratin. We had the scallop & prawn ravioli as an appetizer and it was just delicious. The bread pudding with rum raisin ice cream was the most tasty and fluffy version I have ever tasted. We discovered the house chef is Phil Carnegie , a one star Michelin chef, no wonder. We also enjoyed a very lovely breakfast of pastries, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee and toast, did I mention they bake several different rustic breads daily? A picture is worth a 1,000 words.

After much research, we made a prepaid reservation three months in advance for a room with a view of Loch Ness in this hotel, along with a reservation for a window table for dinner celebrating our 38th anniversary. We even had an email acknowledgment for the dinner reservation. When we arrived to check in, we were told that they could not accommodate either our room OR our dinner reservations, and that they had rebooked us at another hotel. Apparently, they had sent us an email the evening before (which we hadn’t seen), although I also had an email from earlier that day letting me know the check-in time. After much discussion, The Inch did agree to cover breakfast and gave us an allowance towards dinner at the other property. However, the properties are quite different, as are the restaurants. We also wasted a lot of time out of our one day in Fort Augustus dealing with this.

Myself and my wife stayed here for 4 nights in early May. This charming hotel is situated by Loch Ness within 15mins walk of the picturesque village of Fort Augustus. Although the hotel would seem a little quaint and old fashioned to some, it is without doubt possessing of a level of service and quality of staff to make any traveller return without hesitation. As almost life long vegetarians we approached this holiday with the usual degree of mild trepidation associated with hotel stays, in that the food might be a little underwhelming and unimaginative. These fears were swiftly put to bed on the first night at dinner where we were treated to our own vegetarian menu, complete with 2 choices of the 3 courses, prepared by a Michelin starred chef of outstanding quality. Every course was a revelation in taste and presentation, and served up by the friendliest and most politely diligent waiting staff we have encountered on our travels. Each night we were presented with a completely different menu of dishes that were simply superb, and an absolute delight to the palate. It must also be stressed that the menu prices were extraordinarily fair for such quality, putting some of the more well-known hotel chains to absolute shame.

A very old building with lots of character. We arrived late and they kept the kitchen open and served us. Great hospitality. Roof was nothing spectacular and shower was a bit unusual. They should have directions on how to use it. I still do not understand why every hotel has a hair blow dryer but no plugs in the bathroom where there is a mirror. A simple issue but can be annoying. I am sure it is for safety but really. All the hotels include breakfast. And what a breakfast it is. Fine China, jams and jellies as well as a menu to order from and a buffet with assorted fruits, cereals, yogurts and juices. No elevator and you will walk a flight of stairs. Our bed and chairs in the room were no doubt very old as they were very close to the ground. No problem but we had never been to a room like that before. Very nice stay and service was great.

What a lovely hotel this is. My room was billed as a small double - but it wasn't small, (maybe all the other rooms were much bigger!), it was quite dark though and the fire escape ran right across the window - but I could live with that. TV reception was sporadic but I'd put that down to the location (lots of trees and hills). The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the lounge with its log fire was a peaceful place to sit with a glass of wine. The Hotel is located a little bit out of town - a good 15 min walk, but this just adds to the peacefulness of the location. Breakfast was lovely - but huge, the scrambled eggs came with what felt like a side of smoked salmon. If your looking for somewhere that feels like home - this is the place for you.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
