We stayed for three nights at the Pennyghael Inn while we explored the Isle of Mull and visited Iona. It was promoted as being open for food all day, but we discovered on arrival that breakfast had to be pre-ordered and was just tea and toast. There was no restaurant service before 5pm and no one available at the inn during the day. Our room was only serviced one day which was also disappointing

We had a fabulous meal on the way home from Fionnphort. Rang on the off chance that they had availability on spec and they managed fit all 8 of us in. We had a super meal here, I can recommend the Steak Pie & The Muscles. All 8 meals were exceptional and the service was very good. The view was outstanding, looking out to Ben Mor. Would highly recommend.

We pre-booked for evening meal, but the inn was very busy. The food was great when it arrived, but that was over an hour and a half after we arrived. The staff were clearly ovetwhelmed and struggling to cope with demand, which is a shame, as they ended up apologising to everyone for the delays.

Great restaurant with super-friendly staff and huge portions! We popped in without a reservation on the way back from Iona but they did all they could to squeeze us in on a very busy night. The food was well worth waiting for, with fantastic burgers and a delicious veggie tagine. It was dog-friendly too, which is always a big plus. Would heartily recommend stopping here and will definitely be back.

Friendly small hotel on the shores of Loch Scridain, midway between Fionnphort and Craignure. Only open in the evenings for food but begins serving at 5pm. Menu is simple but food is locally sourced and all good. Venison features strongly (pies, burgers, bolognaise, etc) . Good selection of wines and local beers. No need to book but can get busy at weekends. Good value.

Right next to the campsite we popped in on a Tuesday night just for a pint but ended up staying for food as the menu looked good. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Dog friendly too. I got the macaroni which was amazing, tasted of proper mature cheddar rather than a generic cheese sauce and my partner got the mussels which he said were the best he’d ever had. They came with bread and chips. We had a couple of pints of something called 4 lager which was really nice. Went again the following night, a lot busier this time, there was a group waiting for a table whilst we ate. He got a burger and I got the sweet potato and caramelised onion tart, wish I’d known it was cold but it was delicious regardless and handmade. Crust was lovely. We came to port nan Gael to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and people but would have went back again if we stayed on the campsite longer. Really great staff, one had her dog in the corner who was super sweet and so well behaved while everyone gave her pats. One woman, maybe manager/owner? had a chat with us about some tools which we couldn’t quite figure out their use for (one too many pints in us at this point haha) and she said they came from a vintage collection, the woman who owned them was going to create signs for all the items and photos in the inn which I think will be a lovely touch. Highly recommend all round.

We spent three nights at this B&B in May 2021. The accommodation was excellent so was the food. We found it was very convenient to take the evening meals as well as the breakfast particularly during the COVID times, as it was necessary to book ahead to go elsewhere. The Husband, Wife & Son made a great team but the Husband chef made our stay very easy by accommodating my wife's wheat intolerance. Full marks for the Gluten free fish & chips. I should also add that I first booked this location for May 2020 but due to COVID it had to be cancelled. I re-booked for 2021 when we had a good idea that it would be possible by then.

The Pennyghael Restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B hosts. What a great recommendation! We had dinner there twice, and made sure to enjoy something different each evening. The dinner offerings ranged from meet to seafood, served with vegetables that were in season. Portions were not large, but quite satisfying. Prices were about average to what we experienced throughout Scotland. We felt it was reasonable, especially as the food was exceptionally tasty. The restaurant is comfortable and service is good.

We were recommended to book a table at this hotel, but it was a big disappointment for the following reasons...We had a two course dinner with a soft drink each and one of us had coffee to follow. £43 was way over-priced for what was served.Starter of carrot soup was bland.Main of "Oven-baked salmon with seasonal vegetables" comprised a fillet of salmon just like the ones you can find in the Tesco freezer section. Seasonal vegetables comprised broccolli (fair enough for June), carrots (not seasonal in the UK at least) and, wait for it... a blast from the past - tinned new potatoes. No sauce either. The other main was "Pan-fried sea bass". Again, served in exactly the same manner.Coffee was also a big disappointment. Instant coffee in a restaurant in this day and age is just unacceptable.Avoid this place and get yourself to one of the great places to eat on Mull.

Este podría ser un restaurante muy elegante con un cambio en el menú (deshacerse de todas las hamburguesas de imaginación, etc.) es un chef que listo para tomar el restaurante hasta el nivel del hotel es necesario. We spent two nights here as a convenient place to stay to allow us a day visit to Iona .The views from the garden are spectacular with a sea loch stretching to the west and Ben More opposite. Binoculars are a must with the chance of eagles and otters nearby . there are several attractive walks nearby if exercise is your thing. The hotel itself is small with a couple of cottages adjoining which could be self catering Dinner was very good on both nights apart from a steak which should be avoided . Venison and local sea food are by far the better choices . We have never tasted finer muscles than those grown locally on the island .The owners and their son take a genuine interest in their guests and are a fund of knowledge on the locality, it's flora and fauna .

We were lucky enough to be given a lovely table by the window with a fantastic view. Binoculars on the windowsill were a nice touch. The restaurant was very clean and the service was fine but the food seems to be a bit hit or miss - my mum had the tomato soup which was tasteless while I had a steak which was great (the chips were excellent). We booked at the last minute for dinner and the person taking the booking was very helpful in trying to fit us in at the time we wanted to eat. On arrival we were shown to some comfortable seating with a lochside view and somebody came over with menus and to take our drinks order. We had an excellent starter and main course but decided to forego the dessert as we are both keen wildlife watchers and we wanted to enjoy dusk as it was a beautiful day. I can certainly recommend a meal here though it is probably a little higher in price than the average for Mull.

Everything was really good – except the food. The waiter was very friendly and welcoming and he gave us great service throughout; a credit to any establishment. The location is just perfect overlooking the loch in the most beautiful countryside that nature offers. Everything in the restaurant eeks of an upmarket bistro with quality furnishings and cutlery with chic clean modern decor; the owner has spared no expense in making a great place to dine. The menu looked great with a good selection of local produce claimed.BUT the food was like something out of a cheap café but at posh bistro prices. A 2 course meal for 2 cost us £50 and I only drank water. As we waited for our meal we could hear the “ping” of what sounded like the microwave coming from the kitchen. The food: Frozen chips, poor quality steak and a flavourless venison burger contributed to a let down. My so called “brioche bun” was worse than something from a cheap burger caravan but it was a league above the splodge of bread masquerading as a bread roll for the soup. The condiments were plastic portion sachets, like you might get in a staff canteen. We daren’t have a dessert. Had we been eating in the local market café at 2 for £10 the food would have been OK.This place has so much promise with everything already in place; it just needs a good chef.

I would have been embarrassed to make a meal like what we had. Bland, oily and not enticing at all. The only positive was our waitress, who made sure our water was topped up, and she kept a good eye on us- I felt bad for her as she was a good employee surrounded by the failures of others. It was also very overpriced, probably as it's the only restaurant we found within miles of our B&B- we made sandwiches for dinners for the rest of our stay, that's how bad this meal was.

We pulled in to this hotel on passing to enquire about the restaurant. The minute we drew up a very hostile woman came across to ask if she could help us- not in a helpful way but with a really bad attitude. We explained we were here for the restuarant and she shrugged her shoulders and said it doesnt open till 6pm as though we were idiots. We explained we were thinking of coming back that night (at this point there would have been no way we would have returned) and she pointed at my 2 children and said we don't allow children under 12. We politely said ok and began to get back in the car and she shouted at us whilst walking away that it was not their fault, it was Scottish licensing laws. We had not even challenged what she had said to us about kids not being allowed nor been rude so I have no idea why she felt to display such an aggressive tone to us. We left feeling a bit flabberghasted and it left a bad taste in our mouths. If this is the service you receive from a simple enquiry, I dread to think what the service would be like if you actually went for a meal. This is the worst experience we have had on holiday- AWFUL.

For dinner in the evening, take my advice don't waste time trying the others, try Pennyghael but beware, clothes get tight as diets go out of the window!! Speaking of windows, the table in the window overlooking the water just makes the evening perfect.

Food was delicious and was good value for money. It's not the sort of place you have to dress up for (mull is like that all over)Service was very friendly, attentive and helpful. The view out the window over the loch was beautiful. The only downside was that I found that the different flavours in my starter didn't really work together. However every thing else was delicious. We went with our 2 young kids and their needs were also well met.

When open (it has now closed permanently); it was a great wee eating house! We went there often. It will be sadly missed, used by many locals, tourists and organisations as an affordable restaurant.
