Eat at daves in Scottish Borders

My husband and I stopped by here for lunch. The train ticket we had purchased had taken us to Tweedbank, but we quickly reboarded after realizing there were many more options to be had in Galashiels. Dave's was one of the places that popped up after a Google query. Despite having just made it past the lunch rush, the person at the counter was very cordial. We told he that we were celebrating our first anniversary/latermoon and gave us a baked treat and a recommendation for a nearby park whereby to enjoy it. I'd highly recommend Dave's if you are looking for a tasty yet affordable lunch spot.

I went here on a Friday lunch time and got 2 chicken and chips and 2 chips when I got home I laughed, It was portions you'd feed a nursery child and the chips were disgusting. When you get a takeaway the night before and you eat leftover chips in the microwave the next day. That's exactly what they tasted like, chalky, cold and dry. No way will I ever be back

The chips were greasy and tasted like leftover chippy chips that had been reheated. Ordered a large but the chips inside didn't even fill the tub halfway. My mum and brother ordered a chicken and chips each, they got 2 not even full chicken strips and the smallest portion of the same chips, won't be buying from there again.

The employees were more than welcoming honestly make you feel like family! The food is lovely home made food and amazing value for money!

Got an order for the work boys chips soggy/ not cooked barely cooked panini and a frozen chicken burger. Will not be back looked like last weeks produce. There was also egg somehow on the burger

Very good, small place to get a quick take away with many choices, got some food for me and my mum amd she’s so picks yet she loves the food there, well worked out only three people allowed if distancing with a protective screen to separate staff from customers, clean and hygienic looking the work space always looks clean and they clean their hands often to prevent corsage contamination. As well as a hand sanitizer at the till and a different one for staff. Would recommend going there very good food for the price

Try the warm wraps, they are absolutely delicious, especially on a cold day! The cakes are amazing but make sure you get in earlier than everybody else or you will miss out, yummy!!!

Get a takeaway from here on a regular basis. Prep time and food are excellent. Never had a bad meal from here. Would recommend this takeaway to everyone. They do everything from cold filled rolls , salads to hot filled rolls including roasts. They get in gluten free cakes as well so everyone can get something.

I eat here 4 or 5 days a week for 2 years now, never had a bad sandwich or a bad experience. It is takeaway only, but, I always grab a sandwich on my way home anyway. Ownership change that happened recently has made my experience way better, dare I say, friendlier. Priced well, good customer service. Perfect small town shop.

really disappointing,the tuna tasted out of date my baguette was soggy and inedible. The staff don't wear masks/visors and handling food without gloves.. I loved this takeaway when the previous owners had it now I avoid at all costs

I went in today for a panini. I knew that they had switch ownership. I was a regular with the previous owner and I would have rated 5/5. But today I went in and was really disappointing. I went in one of the woman was chatting to a customer, I was unclear if I could come in or not as it was not advertised clearly (due to social distancing). As I was ordering (with another member of staff) another woman was about to come in. She waited outside. I was thinking in my head could this other woman in the shop leave to let her in, but no she and the employee were chatting. So I thought she must be leaving soon. After I ordered I stood and waited a while to pay (due to the woman chatting) I finally paid for my meal. Then the woman said to me sharply can you go and stand outside. Which made me think why is your fellow employee standing chatting to this other woman. she should be waiting outside due to her having a larger order than me. I know that eat at daves has a lot of young people/school children entering I felt like she was treating me less than the other woman standing there. As a 19 year old who does look a lot younger than my age I feel like she treated me as a school child (who should be treated with respect like a regular customer) should have treated me with more respect. The thing is I was happy to stand outside for me meal as I understand the food industry is changing due to corona virus. I also know how I would like to be treated in the workplace. However I feel like was treated with less respect than the older ladies in the shop. However the rude staff is the least of the problems for the business. One of the staff without a mask went out past me and outside to give some food to another customer. People need to be taking the virus seriously. As working in the hospitality industry it’s ok to not wear a mask behind and screen but when you come out you need to wear a mask. Overall my food was good but I won’t be returning due to the lack of respect shown and safety measures towards the virus. But would totally recommend going if you are a older customer as you will be treated fairly.

A good shop with nice lunch options. Rolls are always fresh and soft. Nice choice of fillings . They offer hot food too. My baguette was tasty and not over priced. Will visit again soon.

I go here most days as the amount of great options is amazing and the price even more so Dave, Mandy & staff are always a delight.

Dave has worked in the town for years and shop.always busy. I decided to pop in one day after reading his special board, always different things popping up. The food always tastes amazing and fresh. Dave and I think it's his wife are always friendly and chatty, banter as they prepare your food. I wouldn't go around school lunchtime as it's a small place and you can't move for pupils. Dave's is just a cracking place if you fancy something a bit more tasty than a Greg's for example, great value too.

Great place to shop staff are lovely,foods excellent prices are great value for money 💰,cakes are to die for always busy it's well worth waiting

Dave Mandy and staff give great service , fantastic portion sizes. Many fillings to choose from toasted wraps my favourite. The line out the door tells you something great value great food

Looking for a nibble to eat in our wonderful park go no further than our HERE!!! My daughter loves the extra long hot dogs served in a scrummy roll to fit. I fancied something plain but their choice is what ever you want they will have it. Cheese and tomato baggette. Delish followed yes I love their traybakes and biscuits. The biscuit is the size of my Palm but was gone within seconds. Very busy with school kids 1.30-2pm but always a quick queue. You could stand and yap all day. Fantastic wee shop. Not many independent shops around. This one just don't go passed. If your not hungry now a traybake would go down well with your cuppa when you get in. You'll go back. Thanks again.

This was fantastic for our short visit in Galashiels !!!! Honestly have never seen baguettes so cheap with a great quantity ... love this well done .

I always plan my works visits to Galashiels to incorporate a cheeky wee lunch at Dave's. Brilliant sandwiches with awesome fillings and all for a cheap £1.85. Today's baguette filling was pulled pork with salad - magic.

The length of the queue at lunch time tells you all you that this is a good sandwich shop. The baguettes are huge and stuffed with filling. Also choice of hot rolls too and salad boxes during summer months.

I quite often buy stuff here and Dave and his staff are always pleasant and attentive. It's a takeaway, though there are a couple of chairs and a table outside on nice days. Wide selection of fillings/toppings for sandwiches/pannini at very reasonable prices. My favourite is the panino with Swedish meatballs and sweet chille sauce. Recommended for a tasty takeaway lunch.

Took the boy for a baguette because he likes them from here so much. As usual wasn't disappointed. Wide selection of fillings to choose from and the baguettes are frssh and nuce and soft. Service is always good and they are always friendly. Price was reasonable too. Would highly recommend this place.

Myself and my family have been going to Dave's for around 2 years now. The food is always fresh and really tasty. There is a vast range of fillings and also the 'roast of the day' option. I highly recommend this baguette shop to everyone and once they go, they are hooked too. No skimping on fillings and it's very reasonably priced. They do tray bakes etc as well. A* go for it. You'll never look back :)

I've been visiting Dave's on an almost daily basis for years now. He offers a huge range of lunch foods and great value prices. Him and his wife Mandy put huge effort into making sure their customers are happy. Often adding things to the menu on following days if they are asked! With freshly made cakes, traybakes and a fresh hot roast everyday, this is the place to go for lunch, without a doubt!

Huge portions, great quality and top value baguettes. Hot daily specials in particular.Beats all the usual high street suspects easily and anywhere that stocks illy coffee, San Pellegrino soft drinks and Brannigans Roast Beef & Mustard crisps needs more than a good review - Dave should get an award!

I always go to daves when grabbing a quick lunch. Food is always very tasty. Especially love the roast of the day served with all the trimmings on a soft white baguette. Love the homemade cakes. Dave and his staff are all very friendly. Wouldnt go anywhere else.

Been going here for my lunch for years and the baguettes are lovley, they always give a very generous amount of fillings and prices are really good.

Looking for a quick lunchtime sandwich and stumbled across this place.The selection is amazing, the staff were happy to talk me through what was available.They have pre -prepared sandwiches but are also happy to make things up to your own specifications.My (baguette)Pulled Pork & BBQ sauce with onions and peppers was superb. Plenty of pork on fresh bread and the onions and peppers were chopped fresh while I waited.Washed down with a cold Iced Tea (Peach) it was a great quick lunch.Very good value and very pleasant staff. Will be back next time I am in Gala.

Been into Dave's many times since we moved to Galashiels and it's a "must do" for lunch on days off. Well stuffed sandwiches, fantastic soups and all for great value prices.

Every time my wife and I visit Galashiels it's our ritual to buy a quick lunch from this friendly little establishment. We found the best thing to be the roast of the day, in a large roll. The food is always fresh and delicious, with a wide range of deli choices and cakes and snacks. Dave himself is very friendly along with his team. Overall really good, only point as others have made also; gloves could do with being warn for hygiene when handling the food.

Eat @ Dave's! 10/10 my husband loves it !! Unfortantly I can't have anything apart from salad as I have a gluten intorlarence but my husband has never moaned! I will say though they should be wearing gloves to serve food.But apart from that amazing value and good food!

I stopped off here for a quick snack and I enjoyed my baguette it is the ideal place to go for lunch one thing would do though is they should put gloves on when preparing the food.

I liked the roll I got but this isn't a restuarant! The lady behind should be wearing gloves to serve as her nails are disgusting full of dirt. That's enough to put me off forever. Wash your hands!!

Often come along to Daves for my lunch, AMAZING selection of lunchtime goodies! There is ample Vegi selections aswell, which I often find a right pain as most places have one or 2 normal boring options for a vegetarian, not Daves!Very friendly and welcoming service EVERYTIME you visit regardless of how busy they are they always have time for you.

Seriously the best sandwich shop in Gala, by far. Friendly guy, cheap prices and you get loads for your money. Tasty food too! I go here all the time.

I have been several times to this takeaway and as a customer who's eaten here since it was supafresh , it has always been an enjoyable experience - the selection of food is very good , its fresh and the owner , Dave is a really nice guy , it is also better value for money than the Channel Street mass market takeaway Subway - and range of food is way betterrecommended ...........

Get my lunch from here 2-3 times a week. Food is amazing and really good value for money! Baked tatties are a must, as well as the sweet chilli chicken provencette - and you must try the hot roast of the day!!!!! Good range of fillings as well as weekly specials. Also plenty of crisps, sweets and juices to choose from! Good chat with Dave as well!! Please try it!!

A great place with a huge selection to choose from, always friendly and the place I go to when I'm in Gala - I only wish I was there more often! Highly recommended.

Work nearby and on days I forget to take lunch this is a great treat. Hot roast rolls are the best - nice and rustic. Only thing I dislike is the queue - but that's a good sign itself!

Whether you want something hot or cold there's something for everyone here. As a regular customer who's eaten here since it was supafresh I have to say Dave is always happy doing what he's doing. It's stowed out the doors most days. Also they are open 6 days out of 7 and are sorely missed when they are on holiday but they never lose any custom. Keep up the awesome grub.

Passing through Galashiels and stopped of at this immaculate little takeaway.Well all I can say is the sandwich I had was amazing and way above the standard of the other big chain sandwich bars by a long way. Excellent warm welcome and lovely staff!Will be back ! Well done eat at daves

One of the best place to get your lunch in galashiels as far as I can think off! Very reasonably priced. The food from there is fresh and tasty. Definitely will visit again and again!

Really high quality stuff here, cheerful, non flustered staff at a very busy lunchtime. Cheaper than Greggs and Subway, and of a quality that far surpasses the chain over the road. So much variety in sandwich fillings too. I wish the business every success!
