Previously dined here and collected food and enjoyed it. On two occasions since I have phoned and been died collecting food due to not having any containers for takeaway. I have offered to bring my own container to collect a burger and have been rudely advised that they will not server me as they have a few customers in. Only visit our with busy time which apparently is all the time. Great food, poor service.

We were staying locally and this pub was just along the road. Very reasonably priced food with big portions. Everything was perfect. Lots of locals which is always a good sign. We went a couple of times had duck egg with black pudding, prawn cocktail, steak, fish, fajitas and chicken with haggis, fruit sundae and sticky toffee pudding. All perfectly prepared and cooked. Staff all very friendly and conscientious.

We visited this pub for years and years and loved it. Always five stars except for one minor complaint when music in bar was very loud while we were eating. However the response of the proprietor (at that time) was reasonable. We returned for our usual meal with friends after the establishment changed hands last year. It was totally changed. Menu uninspired and limited, prices increased, portions reduced, food average at best, certain dishes already off the menu by 7.30 and waitress surly when we were forced to complain about a side salad being forgotten. And the "side salad" was lettuce, tomato and cucumber with no dressing. We left after the main course and haven't been back. I put this review up now on noticing only one review has been posted since (suspect written by a relative) so doubt things have improved. On the upside we have now found new good eateries in the area.

We’ve visited the Strath Tavern a number of times over the past few years and always been met with a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. I’m one of those problematic costumers with food intolerances and therefore a little challenging for some establishments to cater for. The Strath couldn’t do enough to cater for me and ran through the menu to outline my choices. Today I had the haddock and chips, the haddock was cooked in gluten free batter and it was so refreshing to be offered this choice. Thank you to the proprietors for making us feel so welcome and our needs catered for. It made my weekend.

Found this wee gem a few years ago and now that we are retired we use it for a bar lunch whenever we can. Excellent waitress service and a menu to go with it. Being pensioners we go for pensioners meal they are the same as on the menu just a little cheaper in price and smaller portions but you still get a lot. The fish is like a whale on your plate mmmmm. Visited Strathmiglo Tavern last night again with friends. The four of us have gone regularly for years and never disappointed. Always our first choice locally. Last night the food and service was outstanding as ever. Unfortunately by the time we were finishing our meal the noise level meant we had to shout to hear ourselves speak. And this wasn't because the bar was packed and buzzing but simply because the music was turned up so loud so some of the drinkers at the bar could have a hooley. So much for a quiet country pub! I'm all for people enjoying themselves but if you want to dance to very loud music go to a night club. When asked, the music was turned down a very little. We finished our drinks quickly and left to cheers from the drinkers and requests to the grinning barman to turn the music up again. Disappointing as barman knows us and knows we are regular customers.

We'd booked in as a large party for a special occasion. When we arrived we didn't expect much because the pub is very old and parts look quite dated. However we were met by a lovely waitress who was helpful and friendly from the outset. They were very accommodating when we asked if we could change a meal from that which had been pre-ordered. The food arrived and the portions were generous. We all enjoyed our meals and thought everything was fresh and tasty. We all ordered desserts and they ran out of one of the items. They were so apologetic and even brought one of our party a little portion of white chocolate ice cream (it was delicious) to have whilst they got him his second choice. The food and drink were all great value and the service made this a smashing little find. Would have been a 5 star review had it not been for a few features in the restaurant/toilets that need updating. Overall would highly recommend!

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
