Driving through Star of Glenrothes we saw a sign for Fishy Saturday so decided to stop. It's a quaint village pub that still feels like a real village pub... nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We got fish and chips for £5.95... food was served quickly and was lovely. Really tasty home cooked food. I know they don't do food all of the time so going to follow on Facebook and will go again when something else is on.

We've heard about the Plough Inn from friends, yet our perception of opening times we had not yet been. Today we did lunch and how pleased were we that we did. Well presented country pub, cosy yet not cramped in any way. Lovely and warm with a fire going, a welcoming greeting which created a very inviting atmosphere. A well thought out food and drink offering, it was easy to find something, plus a good selection for kids (not with us). Each course was prompt, hot and very tasty, a simple Saturday lunch, yet it left us wanting to return. Well done the Plough Inn team.

Took two friends with us to revisit the Plough, which I hadn't visited for years. It was better than I remembered it and well worth the detour around back roads to reach it. Super friendly welcome, extensive (but not too expensive) menu from which we all chose different dishes and none of us was disappointed. Their cups of soup of the day were big and hot and excellent value for money.

We recently visited The Plough Inn for the very first time. The pub/restaurant is very welcoming and cosy. We were seated straight away with no problems, the waitresses were very friendly. Our meal was delicious and reminded me of a home cooked meal, well worth the money! I don't understand why people are complaining about the amount of food you get, you get a large portion for a low price...don't see the problem with that? The only thing that would have made the meal even better would be more gravy on the beef pie, with maybe a wee jug on the side! Overall The Plough Inn is well worth the money and is a great place to go if you want a simple, down to earth meal! Hope to be back again soon!

We to this pub over 20 years ago on a regular Thursday night. It always had a good atmosphere, good beer, food and friendly staff. My wife had her 30th birthday here, that was 22 years ago. On this visit after a long time away the layout has changed and it is very well decorated fitting with a village pub. The menu selection was extensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food tasted good and offered reasonable value for money. Cannot comment on the beer selection as was driving. This is an idea place for a get together with a few friends or family. Small pubs like this deserve local support instead of all the larger national brands. Actually thinking about going back for dinner tonight whilst writing this.

I was unhappy ,when I heard that we were going there for a High T. As I swore, I wouldn't be back in there, but as it was a family members choice,I didn't want to be rude. The sausage rolls didn't taste nice, presentation of the cakes not good, the sandwiches was good. The lay out of the tables was better, than my last visit, again it was pre booked event with plenty of notice..The service was slow,in my opion. No fresh cups was offered for t or coffee. It was just topped up ,when I think they remembered. Also one of party was a coffee drinker ,asked for more coffee and they didn't have any made. There was a 20 minute wait.Again the hotel knew in advance about the event, again the staff was unprepared for a large party .I was going give the plough the benefit of the doubt. No ,even if I am asked to go for anything to eat there again,by a friend/family member.. I will decline politely.

The pub itself is very welcoming. The fire was burning and it felt like somewhere we could sit all afternoon. It was immaculately clean and homely. The staff were attentive and welcoming and completely understanding of the little quirks our visit brought! The food was excellent and service was really quick. We had the Brie and mushroom starters which were delicious and very generous portions. Our childs meal was brought out with our starter and for what it was, chicken nuggets and chips, it was high quality and cooked perfectly. We ordered the steak pie and the haddock. In fact the person was unable to eat the majority of the meat. It needed at least another hour in the pot to be tender. Shame really as everything else was grand.

My husband and I have dined here a good few times over the past 2-3 years and have always enjoyed our visits. The Plough is a traditional country pub with a warm, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The restaurant area is small and cosy, leading off the lounge, so you still enjoy the pub atmosphere but also some privacy. The owners are friendly and as the husband is also the chef, the standard of the meals are consistently of the same high standard. If you do dine here, take an appetite, as portions are generous and you won't want to leave any! I would especially recommend the steak :-)

Just what you would expect from a village pub, good basic food, big portions at a great price. Very friendly and homely service always with a smile and a good range of beer and wine.

Came here for lunch on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Greeted by friendly welcoming staff and ushered to our seats in front of the warm fire. There wasn't anyone else here but I don't know why as the food was great, the service incredible and very good value for money. Will definitely be back.

Booked a few weeks in advance after reading the reviews, so positive. Pub itself is lovely, roaring fire, nice atmosphere. Very dissapointed in the service, attitude and food presentation. The starter of potato skins was in actual fact deep fried potatos, not skins as we would expect. The portion size was huge, rediculous size, especiall for those who appreciate light bites. The beef was overly thick, very chewy, one was returned due to the customer being unable to cut the meat. Again the portion sizes of the beef and turkey dinner, way too large for women. Then chocolate fudge cake, again very large portion size, very dry and accompanied with ICE cream, I found chunks of ice in my Ice cream.we ordered coffee, that came, was half a cup, very weak and tasteless. We were very dissapointed overall, we looked forward to visiting the Plough Inn, we would not return....

Travelled the 10 minute drive out of Glenrothes into the village of Star. Greeted by a nice, small traditional, local which was welcoming inside despite being empty. Both outside (large Christmas tree with multi-coloured lights) and inside (tree and lots of "presents" pinned to the walls) there's a feeling of being ready for Christmas. We received a warm welcome from the staff and our waiter was very good - very courteous and professional.A decent choice of meals (menu changed recently for Christmas) though they had ran out of turkey! Enjoyed a massive portion of potato skins and an equally generous roast beef dinner - being a little fussy the beef could have been a bit more tender. No rooms for desserts.Overall, it was worth the drive and as a regular visitor to the area I will come back again (though possibly not on my own just in case there is no-one in).For others visiting the area it is worth finding as there are very few decent food options in the area.

We booked table for Friday evening. Received fantastic service great food and plenty of it. My partner thought her pudding was delicious. We sat on a cosy sofa after our meal with drinks and the wood burning stove going. We had a lovely evening chatting.

Booked today for lunch but was not busy. Food was great, hot, and huge portions. Very tasty too. Sometimes a quiet place is a bit soulless, but the service was top notch and the waitress friendly.

I was here for our Christmas 2014 night out . I have eaten here quite a few times and have yet to find fault with anything . I had a Haggis Bites (Balls) with chilli dip which was nice & spicy for a starter followed by Rib eye steak with peppercorn sauce oh my was the steak mouth-wateringly delicious , I couldn't eat all the chips and salad , note to self this is why I don't have a starter , after a little rest and another glass of wine I had a sweet , I opted for The Red Velvet Cheesecake that the lady's I was out with always Rave about , and it was every bit as good as they said it was , think I might have actually found a fault , next time I go will it be cookies & cream cheesecake or Red velvet cheese cake now there's a dilemma ..............:-)

The ambience of this little rural establishment was wonderful. A good mix of "out of towners" and locals in a cosy and rustic setting. Staff very affable and we liked the not oft seen appetisers on the bar counter top. How novel and enterprising and indeed generous" A lovely touch. Our only small issue was that the chips were not cooked through and were quite pale and hard. We were rushing to go to a wedding or would happily have mentioned. Other than that we were all pleased with our meal.

Overall we had a great lunch at the plough, we chose this pub after seeing the recommendations on here. The food was lovely, very generous portions and value for money. However, the waitress did not seem impressed with the bits of food that our 10 month old had dropped on the floor and made a comment about it as we left. This did put a damper on what had been a great family lunch out.

Booked ahead as suggested by others, glad we did as seemed to be quite busy.Nice pleasant bar with a good selection of beers. We got there early but sat in the bar near the wood fire and had a drink and was able to preorder our food.Seating is at nice size tables they have not thankfully felt the need to cram people into a small dining area.Food was good and service attentive and friendly. A good pub dining night out.

A bit of the beaten track but worth it. If this café was in the city centre, it would be packed out every day! We enjoyed lovely, freshly made sandwiches in a cosy atmosphere and took some delicious cakes home. I hadn’t been for a while but it’s every bit as nice as I remember, we’ll definitely be back.

We didn't stay but went for lunch one Sunday. We booked but several groups turned up without booking and were able to get a table. The menu is the usual pub grub but nicely presented and service was quick. Ae chose the roast beef, meatball and curry with icecream and coffee to follow. All very tasty The welcome and service were frienly and efficient and the dining room light airy and spacious.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.
