We got a very good carry-out - fish and chips, steak pie, potatoes and veg, a day or two ago. Food was hot, well put together and good value.

Thank you to Brian and all the staff for our lovely Christmas Dinner. We had booked to sit in at the Tavern as we have been there before on Christmas day and it was lovely. Due to Covid restrictions we decided to have our dinner delivered and this was done on Christmas eve all packaged and ready to heat up on Christmas day. The meal was lovely from the Prawn cocktails through Turkey and Beef in red wine with all the trimmings. The plum duff and trifle were good too so thanks again. Looking forward to when we can sit in and enjoy a meal in the Tavern but until then I would recommend the TAKEAWAYS ANYTIME. Tom and Mary

We went for High Tea on a Friday - they only have High Tea available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A small car park behind the tavern has a nice view over the countryside. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived so we had a choice of many seats. We were surprised at the extensive menu. Toast came straight away. We each had a starter - something not included in the High Tea price. I had fried camembert which came with a side salad and cranberry sauce in a little pot. It was excellent. For a main course I had gammon steak with pineapple. It came with chips and I chose vegetables (salad was an option). It was a most enjoyable dish. Scones, cakes and tea/coffee all came included in the High Tea price. The scones had been warmed and were very good. We really were too full for cakes but shared one which again was really good. The whole meal for the two of us with drinks and the extra starters came to £26. Unbelievably good value.

We come to the Springfield Tavern quite a lot as we live locally. A high tea is very good value for money and the food is very good. They have a menu to choose from and also a specials board. We had the Scampi served with salad and chips and the Cajun chicken served with the same sides. Both were very good and they serve a very good portion. You are served with toast at the start of the meal and when you have finished your main course you have a choice of coffee/tea and a plate of scones and cakes. The service is good and not rushed and all in all well worth a visit. High teas and meals are served at weekends only and they have a car park. All in all well worth a visit

We found this little gem when visiting the scottish deer centre on sunday. from the outside it looks nothing special but inside we were made to feel very welcome and the menu had loads of choice and the prices were fantastic. The food was lovely and service was so quick considering it was just one man doing all the running about.

We visited this wonderful gem of an establishment in the village of Springfield , near Cupar for high tea on Mother's Day and the home-cooked food was outstanding . The tavern itself is cosy and quaint with a lovely atmosphere and Brian the proprietor is a charming man . Our teenage son loved the macaroni cheese and is already requesting a return visit . Everything was top drawer and I highly recommend a visit to this excellent and atmospheric Tavern . We will certainly be back , well done .

Why, Why, Why is the restaurant so quite at lunch times on weekdays? In a small town, on a corner, on the edge of the town sits this small un-assuming restaurant/bar. Walk inside and you may wonder what era you have walked into but don't let that deter you, take a seat at one of the few tables and get ready to have your taste buds re-ignited. Now this is not michelin class food but it is home cooked, very tasty and plentiful. Starters, which i have had were all home made soup, pate and crispy onion rings. (and yes there are plenty more starters to chose from) Main course, 1/2 roast chicken, proper steak pie (not stew with a pastry topper) maccaroni and cheese and curry are just a few of the mains on the vast menu as well as a specials board. Vegetables potatoes and salads all fresh and oh remember mash potaoes with butter and nutmeg its here. Desserts, apple crumble/pie fresh although pity the custard was out a carton. Their cheesecake is soooo good it gets a double oo. Don't know who the chef/cook is but the food is very good and everyone we have told and been to the restaurant with agrees and go back fairly regular even though it is a 30 mile round trip but well worth it, i also love the 70/80's touch of chopped or picked parsley. Give this place a try, you will not be dissapointed, our last visit was less than seven days ago and we will be back in a couple of days before the schools go back after the summer.

Had a lovely bar lunch at the Springfield Tavern, The welcome was friendly and the restaurant area was quaint and a bit of a time warp, however this did not detract form the good food at very reasonable price. Both starter and main course were piping hot and the presentation good. You can order large or small portions for your main, I ordered the smaller portion and there was more than enough on the plate to satisfy. Try this restaurant, don't rely on the sat-nav as we arrived in Cupar and it is in Springfield just outside Cupar. Very limited car parking however there is a free parking lot opposite the Tavern.

This meal was the best we had experienced on our trip to Scotland. The food was hot. Well presented and enjoyed to the last drop of sauce on our plates. We were a group of Canadians looking for a location in Springfield and were pleasantly surprised to have an explanation of the village and a picture provided by the owner. Wonderful meal we would all return. Worth the trip to Springfield. Thank you

We seven Canadians arrived today at this family owned and run tavern. With an extensive menu to choose from, we ordered 6 different dishes, all of which were considered excellent food, brought in a timely fashion, well prepared and presented- very much like home cooked meals. The price was most reasonable so excellent value for your money. Very generous portions- excellent desserts. The tavern was very clean, beautifully set tables and with great service! Highly recommend this tavern as a stop off on the way to St Andrews or travelling in the reverse direction or in the area. Well worth the stop.

I often pop up to Springfield to visit family and have found this little gem. A great place to eat and have a drink, dog friendly in the bar. It is usually weekends I am there however I was in there on a Thursday and found every second Thursday they have a 'Bothy' night, where musicians gather and just jam together, the night I was there I counted 30 people with all manner of instruments and a very pleasant bunch they were as well.

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.

We didn't stay but went for lunch one Sunday. We booked but several groups turned up without booking and were able to get a table. The menu is the usual pub grub but nicely presented and service was quick. Ae chose the roast beef, meatball and curry with icecream and coffee to follow. All very tasty The welcome and service were frienly and efficient and the dining room light airy and spacious.

Had lunch here based on Tripadvisor reviews and I totally agree with the excellent rating for this super cafe! Busy Saturday but quickly seated, order promptly taken and then fantastic tomato and basil soup, egg mayo sandwich on lovely brown bread with salad, cheese and ham toasties with crisps arrived for us to enjoy! Substantial portions filled us up all day on a visit to the University Open Day. We will be back!
