Waterfront Restaurant in Fife

Excellent discovery! A huge room. Top-notch bedding. Clean, well heated! Do not be fooled by appearances. The waterfront is not just a restaurant 😁. Super comfortable and very well placed, whether for passing travelers or even golf enthusiasts. Saint Andrews is a short drive away and there are courses galore all around in the immediate area. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Do not hesitate ! We will come back for sure! Special mention to Room 7 Bakehouse! 😉

Fantastic place the fish and chips were lovely and the staff were very friendly.

I enjoyed my stay at the Waterfront only problem was the double bed, it was two singles zipped together not comfortable. Food great Staff great

Lovely meal in a very nice restaurant overlooking the sea. Good food and very reasonably priced.

A second visit here approx 2 years after the visit and it was still excellent. Great variety of dishes on the menu and the service was very good too. Thoroughly recommended for lunch or dinner.

Stopped here for food while out on a cycle. The sun was shining so had some fish and chips outside with a beautiful view out to the harbour. Meal was nice enough (although it’s not chip shop!) and the service was incredibly fast with food coming out within about 10 minutes.

This was a wee surprise overnight by my partner. Can honestly say this was a wee gem of a place. We where in the granary and what a beautiful room. Room 3. Window at either side. Lovely decorated modern room. Lovely shower room and bed was lovely and comfortable. Everything we needed. We sat outside for lunch and that was beautiful and fresh...was busy but staff where lovely...even all the wee dogs where looked after. We ate breakfast next day and that was great with choice of juices, cereals, yoghurt etc...choice of hot drinks and various lovely options of cooked breakfast. We will definitely be back...would love to try sea view room but when I looked when I got home to rebook...no availability for sea view rooms at weekends...very few dates midweek where available which says it all. We will definitely be back and definitely will book here again.

Delicious lunch. Mussels scampi and sea bass all delicious.The star of the show was the super cheesy macaroni cheese side dish. Best I have eaten since my mum made it for me.😋😋

Had a lovely meal there I loved the Cullen Skink soup and then the Chicken Fajitas and side of chips were very nice too! Nice big portions too x

Lovely hotel which is in a perfect location! Room was a good size, warm & the bed was very comfortable. Evening meal was absolutely delicious as was my breakfast, cooked fresh to order. Staff were very welcoming. WIFI wasn’t the best as the signal often goes, but all in a very nice hotel 👏

Best for fish dishes....the breakfast.. haddock and scrambled eggs was quite simply amazing.

Lovely restaurant opposite the harbour. Food was delicious, I had chicken fajitas, it was so much food I personally think it was nearly enough for 2 meals. We had fish and chips and steak there too. Really nice cooked steak. Staff were very friendly and welcoming! We enjoyed it a lot and will be going back.

Went for a meal here, not eligible to give the hotel a rating. Me and my Family enjoyed the food, Step sister didn't find the nachos up to previous experience but the rest of us enjoyed them. Personally, the Steak pie was excellent. It looks small but rest assured there's a lot in there for one person. It was delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive particularly the young lass and Laddie who served us food/collected our dishes. The atmosphere was very homely and the view was excellent(anstruther is a pride of Fife) The real pleasant surprise was the woven handkerchief for our laps! Very classy!! Great experience. Thanks!

We had a recent 4 day stay in this area and had an evening meal here 2 times during our holiday. Great menu but we opted for the fabulous fish and chips on both occasions. Helpful and attentive staff.

Came here for lunch and it was great. Friendly staff, service was a good pace and it was nice and busy in the restaurant. We had fish & chips, sea bass and fish pie and they were all great. Soup starter was a little salty but overall not worth deducting a star for. The coffee was great too. Booking recommended - was really busy but it was a bank holiday.

We were staying in one of the lovely rooms and ate both evenings in the restaurant. So handy! Do book a table as popular restaurant. Super seafood selection and other selections too. Delightful local girls were serving and it was fast and efficient. Nothing not to like! We will return.

Had a delicious meal with my husband, The battered fish was amazing, Started with the prawn cocktail, which was brimming with prawns. Breakfast also was very tasty with a great choice. Very friendly staff x

We were a party of 5 including 2 small children. The adults were given laminated menus and the kids paper menus with activities on one side. My son asked the waiter for some crayons and was told they can't because of covid. The waiter took our orders and our laminated menus away then just casually threw them on top of the pile of other menus without so much of a wipe down. Poor show. Also mussels were tiny and should never have been served.

We have passed here on so many occasions and couldn't get a seat outside, until now.Lovely setting, right on the front, overlooking the harbourThe staff were very welcoming and friendly and good covid measures in place.We sat outside, watching the world go by, over a glass or 2 of wine, however moved inside in the late afternoon.All tables were booked in the restaurant that evening, so we couldn't eat here but the food looked lovelyWe finished our drinks and asked for the bill.We were pleasantly surprised with the prices, considering it is right on the harbour.Will definitely return and book in advance for the restaurant.

We had not been to the Waterfront in over 3 years but found it to be as good as ever, notwithstanding the difficulties presented by the current Covid-19 restrictions.The Cullen Skink was marvellous as were the mussels and the haggis stuffed chicken, all at very reasonable prices.The service was both friendly and efficient and it was good to see staff still with a sense of humour despite the operating challenges.

Excellent fish and chips served with bread and butter, tea, scones and a selection of cakes - just fab!! Staff friendly and covid precautions excellent- will definitely be back.

Hubby n I had lunch here at the end of September- delicious! Great service, very good with regards to Covid. Had prawn focaccia with fries and glass of rose - very filling and lovely. Would definitely recommend & return.

As the name implies the restaurant has lovely views across the harbour. Food is very good with large portions. My wife had the fish and chips whilst I had pasta. Both very well cooked. Reasonable prices but book in advance as they are often full even midweek.

Dinner date with my wife during a wee break in Fife. Nice menu, decently priced though disappointing to see establishments like this not taking part in the eat out to help out scheme. Seems to be busy enough without incentives to bring trade in but how about something to give back to loyal customers who have also had it hard of late!?!?Nachos dish a bit heavy on the cheese, otherwise meal was good and staff very warming. Would recommend even despite lack of involvement in the government scheme.

Wonderful choice of breakfast menu. Fresh fruit, very fresh eggs and the service was very good. Welcoming for our friend joining us for breakfast too - no bother.

After a wee staycation in Anstruther we had to leave our rental property by 9.00 am so decided to look for a local restaurant or bar serving breakfast. With Covid-19 restrictions, some places were only serving breakfast to guests staying in their hotel or inn.The Waterfront Restaurant is right on Shore Street and has a menu offering a range of breakfast options from the Full Scottish to a range of lighter options including Toast & Jam, Filled Rolls, Eggs Benedict or Scrambled Eggs .Service was prompt from taking our order to our food arriving. We opted for the full scottish and food was well cooked and very tasty.Only criticism was that staff weren't wearing face coverings however other aspects of the Covid guidelines for the hospitality industry were observed (track and protect protocols were in place via a Qreader on each table and cleaning down tables when guests left was extremely thorough).Would definitely recommend a visit if you're looking for breakfast.

Huge choice of food on menu, high tea menu which includes tea, toast, scones and cakes and a main meal from 4-7pm at a price of £13.95.Food was excellent, freshly cooked and very very tasty. Good choice of food on kiddies menu.Service very attentive, friendly and helpfulIn light of COVID 19 hand sanitizer on entry, QR code to log details for track and trace, tables social distanced and choice to eat inside or out. We were surprised that waiting staff were not obliged to wear face masks. Thorough cleaning took place once a table departed.Lovely evening and would recommend a visit.

You cannot write a review about the waterfront at Anstruther without recognising that it has turned out lovely Dinning experiences over many years; however I think that era has passed. Starting off with insufficient WiFi to even register your details for social distancing and that is Government requirement, to a menu of meals that is now no different to the restaurants of Kirkcaldy or St Andrews to name but two. The artisans of the kitchen have obviously moved on and although cleanliness and presentation of the premises is still high, a clean table doesn't a good meal make. Furthermore I assume the Management just expect the tourists and other dinners to just turn up so why take part in the eat out to help out hospitality scheme. The Waterfront had the opportunity to give local workers the opportunity to have some Government subsidise food in a nice setting; having decided not to I wonder how the establishment will survive in the Winter when there are only local workers. Great in the past but average now.

We were a table of three for lunch.The table was pre-booked.The tables was well spread out , staff wore facemask and took table details for tracking.We had fish and chips and it was delicious. Good size portions.The restaurant and toilets was spotless clean.Staff was friendly.Highly recommended and we will go back.

I love this restaurant, the food is excellent , and have eaten here a few times, I was about to book when I noticed the staff member outside talking to the public with no social distancing at all, put me off going in, and won't be back until this is addressed.

The restaurant mainly serves reasonable choices of good basic food. Prices are reasonable and the staff very friendly. The place is spotless clean and complying with all the current virus restrictions

We're pretty familiar with the Waterfront having eaten there several times over the years but our recent visit was very disappointing.All of our party eat out a fair amount in a wide range of establishments from the toastie shack at Kingsbarns to the tasting menu at Gleneagles.All five of us felt the meal at the Waterfront was not up to standard My starter of Prawn Cocktail used prawns that were hard and tasteless - absolutely unacceptable in a place where at least two local fishermen are delivering fresh. The dish had clearly been sitting in a chiller for ages removing any sense of flavour from the sauce.My sea bass had skin that instead of being crispy had barely been cooked and the soft slimy effect was unpleasant.I won't go through the rest of our choices but the unanimous reaction was the same - poor quality provision which all appeared with suspicious speed.We'll put it down to post-Covid rustiness and give it another go but they really need to watch the quality of their offering.

Delighted with my big breakfast on the (literally) Waterfront yesterday morning. It was a very sunny start to the day and ideal for sitting lazily outside to watch all the activity on the boats in the harbour opposite. Very simple stuff, just like my full Scottish which came with everything you might expect plus a lot more if you wanted it - I declined the eggs, mushrooms and haggis - but I was on my bike and didn’t want to overburden the tires too much. I think they sneaked an extra sausage on the plateful without me asking for it, and it was all cooked to perfection and served on a hot plate to keep it all warm enough, as if scoffing it all was going to take a while! It’s the small, simple things that matter with such a seemingly simple order but the difference is always made by the people involved. I noticed all the waitresses were very cheery with the customers as it began to get busy, and I have to single out Emily as the one who deserves most credit for adding an extra ray of sunshine to my breakfast experience! It doesn’t take much to get things just right, just like it didn’t me long to finish my meal, get back on my bike and away again. In the words of The Terminator, I’ll Be Back!

We visited here with family after a day in St Andrews looking for excellent fish and chips and were not disappointed. After a day of glorious sunshine and temperatures in the mid twenties, the restaurant was packed (within COVID-19 guidelines) but an outside table came free so we sat in the angle of the windows facing the harbour. Our waitress was pleasantly chatty. I ordered the Haggis Bon Bons for a starter, which were slightly most inside with crunchy breadcrumbs outside. Very tasty! Then followed for substantial portions of fish and chips (battered or breadcrumbs?), light and flaky with batter just crispy, and golden fries. A few more peas would have been nice, but otherwise an excellent supper to end a glorious day. No desserts as we needed to sample the local ice cream :-)

During a trip to Anstruther on a sunny day, we treated ourselves to fish and chips from the high tea menu. The fish n chips were delicious, all freshly cooked and a huge portion! In addition, it came with a high tea of scones, cakes and tea/coffee included! It was fantastic and the staff were all lovely. Definitely recommended for a fish tea! X

Very decent place for dinner. Anstruther is not well served by restaurants due to its size but The Waterfront is a safe bet. Dinner was good but breakfast was excellent - best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had.

Arriving around sunset we chose to sit outside. Our waitress Paige was most helpful and assisted us with our food choice. We chose a chicken and haggis dish with a peppercorn sauce. The food was delicious and the service prompt.

Wife and I had a lunch here today, bruschetta and haggis bon bons to start then scampi/chips/ salad and battered fish/chips/salad for main all were excellent, especially the fish and the scampi, the staff were lovely too very polite and helpful

Food quality was incredible. We shared mussels as a starter, both the fish pie and smoked haddock & prawn mains were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was a perfect end to a wonderful meal. We also had the most expensive bottle of white wine on the menu and the bill still came to only £62

First fish supper since lock down.Absolutely fantastic. Social distance outside 20 minutes but well worth the wait. Will be back. Wilkinson family

We had a lovely dinner with friends last week. We had 2 children and they we made to feel very welcome. Food was all fresh and tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was fabulous as well.

Two starters was too much. One between us would've been ample (in fairness, the server suggested this when taking the order). Mains were good but not exceptional, our appetites perhaps having been dulled at this stage by the starters. About £50 for a meal for two with a couple of drinks isn't cheap, but it is a cheerful place to eat, and service was attentive but unobtrusive, quick but not too fast.

We were staying in the hotel and had a superb Christmas Dinner here a few nights before Christmas the tables were set up with Crackers, nice Hats (not paper ones) Poppers and festive napkins, we had the Turkey dinner which was excellent, well presented and very tasty, this along with a choice of starters and desserts followed by Coffee and mince pies was a great meal, this teamed with the attentive smiling service made this a meal to remember, a big thank you to all involved in providing a very good dinning experience.

We dropped into Anstruther on our way back to Ayrshire from 3 days in St Andrews looking for some breakfast and found this great place.The girls who served us were cheery and efficient and the food was superb.I had full Scottish with white toast it consisted of 2 links,Black Pud,Haggis,mushrooms 2 large bacon rashers,beans,tattie scone and a lovely fried egg great value for money and I only managed one piece of toast as it was such a great portion!Lynn my wife had scrambled egg on toast which she recommends and she got plenty off egg as wellWe have had lunch here a few years back and it also was great but I was not on trip adviser then but keep up the good work guys well done thoroughly enjoyed it

We were staying near Anstruther for a few nights at the beginning of November and ate here twice. Very friendly, efficient staff - great food and reasonably priced. What more can I say. Would definitely recommend. We'll be back!

High tea, good portions, excellent waiting staff, and very clean surroundings. Shame about all the outsiders using the toilets, and could be cleaned more often

The best bit of our visit was the service, the staff were great. The food wasn’t bad, it was just wasn’t great for the price we paid. We shared calamari for starter which was decent to be fair. That was as good as it got though. For main, I ordered scallops, black pudding and chorizo on a bed of rocket and sea bass for the other half. Both dishes were okay at best, they sounded great but were just a bit bland.It was slightly worrying how soon each course arrived to the table. (It made us question whether it was freshly made)The staff were great but the food wasn’t up to scratch.

We stayed with a group of friends for an overnight. Lovely rooms, lots of space in the rooms and nice well finished bathrooms. Dinner was excellent, good portions and def value for money. The staff are super friendly! Only small problem, the restaurant doesn’t have a bar or a sitting room to continue the catch up in, but very minor prob.

Waterfront Restaurant has accommodation to the rear.Quaint vennel opens to beautifully furbished large room ,with huge bathroom and the bonus Jacuzzi! Don't put too much Bubble bath in the water! Food in restaurant tasty and good portions. Staff delightful

Last time we were in the area spotted this along the shore in Anstruther, but were full so made sure to visit again and book! Tonight was the night where we travelled back down from Aberdeen exploring the coastline and looking forward to their high tea menu which is served until 7pm. Greeted by a friendly waitress and shown to our table opposite the window overlooking the bay, Their high tea menu is superb and has a varied menu with all the favourites but then offer toast, tea/coffee & cakes. We decided upon what we wanted and within no time the toast and mains were out of the kitchen. Unfortunately my Mum had ordered the chicken and found it quite hard to cut and dry so had to send it back and order the fish & chips which was delicious & british! My Dad had the Macaroni which was a small serving and was quite bland (more cheese sauce needed) so after he finished was feeling still hungry. Its a superb small busy restaurant with amazing staff happy to sort out the meal and make us happy (credit to the small friendlt waitress).

Staying at the hotel so decided to try the restaurant for dinner. Small so best to reserve a table .Decided to opt for chicken n haggis in peppercorn sauce n my partner had burger with bacon . Portions were huge freshly cooked and delicious unfortunately we had to pass on desserts. People at neighbouring tables also said their meals were delicious.Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. Can also recommend breakfast which was plentiful and good selection.

im really disappointed on saying giving this place a bad review after that amazing meal and effort they did last year for our anniversary. my wife suffers from ibs and i told them at the start so reading the menu my wife picked the king prawn linguine there was no mention of red onions and the waitress said it would be fine for her along came the meal and it was full of red onions went to complain and the manageress came andsaid sorry and my wife ordered a sandwhich then she asked if she wanted onion rings with that!!! during the meal i heard them laughing about it so i mentioned it politly that i mentioned my wife has ibs so why did they no mention it when she ordered told us she wasnt a mind reader and started to say that just because u didnt like it then started argueing with us in the middle of the restuarant making my wife have a anxiety attack we paid and they started to laugh and shout dont come back to is not very professional also i was threatened on putting a review on here

We made the mistake of visiting this establishment for lunch today and were simply gobsmacked by our experience. I ordered the prawn linguine which states on the menu it is just prawns, herbs and garlic. So imagine my surprise when it arrived loaded with the same quantity of red onion slices as it had linguine. Why was this an issue you might wonder? Well I suffer from IBS and onions in any form make me very unwell very quickly.

We visited this restaurant/takeaway on a busy, but wet, August lunchtime. Although we were a party of seven we did not have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table to become available. The staff were particularly friendly & patient with the young children in our party. The fish was fresh from the boats, well cooked and delicious. Other main course options were available.

6 of us ate here and we had a wide selection from the high tea menu. The value and choice is good but the precision of cooking was not the best

I seldom write reviews, but I feel compelled to review The Waterfront as our stay there was the best of our Scottish vacation. Though Glasgow and Edinburgh were excellent, our 3 night stay at The Waterfront showed more than the Scottish friendliness

The lunch was so good haddock and chips my husband had pannini but boe Bramble gin was lovely. Friendly helpful staff

We have had high tea here on several occasions and it is great value for money. That said, the menu has not changed for some time and so is a bit tired. Also the standard of scones and cakes has gone a bit downhill. Our scones seemed shop bought and very dry and they squirty cream provided did not help. Also, the "cakes" on offer were tray bakes. Overall tasty but a bit repetitive.

Not sure which was better the service or the food but both were top class. We had the lunch menu starting with prawn cocktail for £3.25, good size portion and very tasty. Followed by homemade fisherman’s pie with fresh vegetables. The pie was tasty and the veg so fresh and cooked to perfection. This was our 4th visit and will definitely be coming back.

Staff were attentive professional and friendly without being overbearing.

We had booked a two night stay an an Airbnb in Anstruther and needed somewhere to get some breakfast. We'd been here before many months ago and knew it was good. Three of us had a great breakfast....full Scottish twice and waffles and fruit for the boss. Orange juice, lattes all round. Food was perfect, view out the windows was great, service was spot on. Very good set up and not too pricey..full Scottish was £9.50.

Had arrived in Anstruther around tea-time, but with the original intention of simply having fish & chips. However, we happened across the Waterfront as we were walking along the seafront and popped in on the off-chance...and very glad we did :-)

First time here as was recommended for high tea. Certainly didn’t disappoint. Food was lovely (Fish & Chips). with good selection of cakes, scones, toast and tea. Restaurant was really busy, but the young staff were very friendly and professional.

Having heard how good the food was we anticipated a wonderful meal.

This is a very good restaurant with a great selection on the menu. Food is fresh and well prepared and a reasonable price. It caters for all the family. The service is very good. Not over posh so great for every day use.

The staff the food are superb especially the fish teas . We have eaten here on numerous occasions and never been dissatisfied yet good value for money too.

We were recommended to eat at the Waterfront by a local. The food was delicious and the service good. 1 hour into our meal an elderly German couple started shouting at a family having a meal. The couple then turned on us saying children should not be eating out other than between 5pm and 6pm and then it should just be at a chip shop.

Don’t go here if you‘d like a pleasant quiet evening. This is the first restaurant I‘ve walked out of because of the noise and because the staff were unable to deal with loud families. Food is fatty and cannot be recommended. I will never be back.

Same old same old at this restaurant

We visited here to seek an alternative to fish and chips and were not disappointed. There were at least 3 vegetarian options, the veggie faijitas were delicious ample and good value. The braised beef was also delicious. The high tea menu served until 7pm is a popular option too. This is a medium sized restaurant that feels friendly and intimate, table bookings are recommended for later sittings.

We'd been out to visit the Isle of May and just found the Waterfront on our return. Really impressed with both the food and service.

There are not many places to eat on the front other than the well known chippie

Today 4th August 19 my wife and I with son and daughter in law had a meal early Afternoon, the food was great no problems at all. The staff were very efficient, pleasant and civil and yound. Great service. Would recommend it

We arrived here today around 5.15, We waited at the door and was asked if we had a reservation we advised no, 7 of us for food having been here before on a few occasions this was my choice.

We are here on our first night in Anstruther. The reviews are accurate. This restaurant is great. The food is well presented and reasonably priced. We got a table by the window which was a bonus. Definitely worth a visit but if you want to eat before 7 do book a table as it was busy.

Visited for lunch on a very hot day with my mum who is in a wheelchair. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us in the restaurant. We all had fish and chips and it was delicious. Restaurant was staffed mainly by young staff and they were excellent. A lot of places I have visited could learn from their customer skills. Well done. A*.

Ate here both nights we stayed in Anstruther. We were lucky to have an outside table both nights. First night we had excellent fish and chips - the portions were large and the batter was thin and stayed crispy to the end. The second night we had starters of mussels and smoked haddock pate with large home made oatcakes both dishes were delicious. We then shared a main of scampi to leave room for desert. Wine was very reasonably priced.

On a family holiday we first ate here for high tea . The food was delicious and there was so much of it. We were asked if we wanted our buttered toast before or after our main course, we said after, but in fact most of us didn’t eat any as there were so many other goodies like the scones and jam and cream and also chocolate cakes .

Hablamos de un restaurante frente al puerto , tiene hamburguesas, sandwiches, pero tambien algun plato mas elaborado comp el bacalao con linguini y tomate, que esta muy bien. El servicio atentisimo, los precios normales.

Had an amazing meal here. Had a drink at lunchtime Prosecco with raspberries which was delicious. Meal this evening was so enjoyable. Meal enhanced by all the young ladies who served us. Never had such enthusiastic helpful and charming customer service. Your staff are a credit to you. Wow your mussels are a pleasure to behold. Thanks all.

Have enjoyed the meals here and on this occasion we thought it would be the same. We were only having a cup of tea and scones, the scones were so disappointing. Not homemade, just not nice.

We popped into the Waterfront after taking the ferry to the Isle of May. At first staff didn't think that they would have room for us as we didn't have a reservation, however they were able to find us a table. Staff was amazing, the food was excellent.

Very nice staff, friendly ,Welcoming girls. Really tasty breakfast. Eggs Benedict done perfectly. Fresh and flaky croissants. Vege breakfast was actually too good. Coffee was just okay. Should improve their coffee.

Had been to Isle of May so was pretty hungry. Service and quality of food (fish of course) was brilliant. High tea including cakes and scones and a big pot of tea. Yum yum
