Lovely cafe, been there twice this week, incredibly friendly and cheerful staff, lovely food, great atmosphere, very clean and plenty of space between the tables. Car park is excellent too, plenty of space, good walks from here too along the river and through the estate. Came across the owners too near their house, an unexpected surprise! Will be returning soon.

Very sad that this restaurant in Rouken Glen Park has closed. It has been a great little oasis in the park with many happy events held there. Having the covid lockdown soon after opening on top of other issues would have been challenging. Despite that would like to thank all the staff especially the chef, drivers and staff who brought top quality food and restaurant experience to the southside. I wish the new owners every success in the future.

No volveré

An accidental find when we’d missed lunch opening hours elsewhere. Needed something Coeliac-friendly, and DD did so much more! Could be in Prague, Krakow, or ….well, anywhere bookish and bohemian, DD is quirky but not kitsch. Coffee is good, mezze is great, and cake quality is very very good…and almost everything is gluten-fee (I could share a mezze platter with my gluten-loving g wife. All the cakes except one were gf). Slightly hidden away off the end of the High St, prices are decent, and its a peaceful space you could step into briefly or waste an afternoon in. Really liked the staff too! Perfect excuse for a wee trip from Edinburgh.

My wife and I are visiting from the States and all our friends back home claimed that food in England was bland. At first I thought our friends were right when we dined at one of the tourist restaurants along the Royal Mile yesterday. But, tonight we stumbled upon Vesta Bar & Kitchen after visiting Dean Village nearby, and wow, I’m so happy to prove how wrong our friends are. We feel like we finally have a taste of what Scotland truly has to offer. What a delight for our stomachs and hearts. The manager, Declan greeted us with warmth, introduced me to Innis & Gunn (my new favorite lager), and recommended our main dishes that were as beautiful as they were delicious. I had the slow braised pork belly on a bed of broccolini and mashed potatoes, and my wife had the linguini with king prawns with olive oil and generous sprinkle of capers. We finished our dining experience with a chocolate cheesecake topped with a raspberry sauce. What an experience!

It was a nice day and we were looking forward to sitting outside for lunch. The outside area was closed off, not sure why, and we sat inside. After about 5 minutes the place was humid, full of smoke/steam from the kitchen and it was uncomfortable. Not sure if the extractor fan was working, if it was then it didn't do the job. The place wasn't that busy. I couldn't get out fast enough to get some fresh air.

As part of Eat Out Aberdeenshire, we decided to go back to the Davron for lunch as it has been a while since we visited. Grey dreich day made much better by the warm welcome upon entry. Comprehensive menu for the Eat Out scheme. Decided on Cullen Skink and battered Haddock, chips and peas. Can honestly say the Cullen Skink was one of the best versions we have had, creamy and full of fish! Thoroughly enjoyed the haddock and chips, a great bargain at two courses for £15 each. Certainly a visit to the Davron made a grey day feel all the more brighter. Many thanks.
