A fantastic meal and very friendly people, I cannot believe the review about the unfriendly and rude staff, I was present at the time, they were turned away because the wanted take the own food into the restaurant to eat, I don’t know of any restaurant that would allow people to take in their own food, I wold definitely recommend the restaurant and the food
After visiting the Nessie museum, we had some time before our cruise, so it was time to grab a bite. This place was close and it did not disappoint. The quiche was nearly perfect, light, fluffy. the burgers were good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
This spot has a good location, however the service and food let it down. We were seated upstairs and were forgotten about. A lengthy period went by before we finally managed to catch the eye of a downstairs waiter who came and took our order. Coffee was nice but the food disappointing and read better on the menu than it tasted. We ordered eggs florentine - the bed of spinach was shredded do finely it was like grass. The vegan breakfast was also disappointing. The beans were stone cold on one side and hadn’t been reheated properly and unfortunately the smashed avocado tasted like it had vinegar through it rather than lemon. We were asked if we enjoyed our meal but sadly it came across as though the waiting staff genuinely weren’t interested. Overall disappointing.

The food was delicious, great variety, fresh flavors, and the friendly service made it a perfect spot for a family meal. It helped that the restaurant had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!
We ate here as we stayed in the hotel. We had dinner and breakfast. As a couple, we have lived and eaten in every continent and concluded that expensive doesn't mean quality.
In this restaurant, which is not overpriced by any means, the class of the chef shines through. Simple things like the choice of chips served, the way the chicken and steak was cooked, the selection of the ingredients for the breakfast shows , that the chef actually cares as to not just what they cook, but also what they buy.
Many chefs in hotels nowadays can only cook what someone else with price in mind, buys but here it's clear that the chef takes an interest as he and his wife own it. That's what makes the difference and everywhere we have eaten in the world the difference has been if the staff have a slice of it.
Superb. Eat here. You won't regret it. And the views are spectacular
We tried the mini camper and vegie camper breakfasts and both were superb! Dog friendly and people friendly cafe, quick table service and reasonable prices, so highly recommended by us
Basil’s Harbour Café in Nairn is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed by friendly staff who create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The café is spotless, with a cosy feel that immediately makes you want to settle in and relax.
The food here is truly outstanding — everything is homemade using the highest quality ingredients. Their Cullen Skink soup is a real standout: rich, creamy, and packed with flavour, it’s easily one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The rest of the menu is equally impressive, offering hearty, delicious dishes that showcase great care and skill in the kitchen.
Basil’s is also wonderfully dog-friendly, making it the perfect stop whether you’re out for a walk or enjoying a day by the harbour. After your meal, don’t miss the Stew & Drew’s ice cream available for takeaway — it’s the perfect treat to enjoy while strolling along the waterfront. And for coffee lovers, their brew is fantastic: smooth, rich, and perfectly made.
Whether you’re after a relaxed lunch, a quick coffee, or a tasty takeaway treat, Basil’s Harbour Café is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
Dropped past while cycling northwards for some fuel. Absolutely lovely slice of carrot cake with a cuppa, very fair price, friendly service and chat. Definitely somewhere I would go to again.
Fantastic stay in a lovely village inn. Food was excellent, room and bed very comfortable and our dog was made very welcome. We would return in the future.
