My wife and I visited this cafe for lunch. I had Cullen Skink then a roll on Stornaway Black pudding/fried egg. And a can of Irn Bru. My wife had a bacon roll, then a fruit scone, with a Latte. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The guys were very friendly, prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend this cafe. 👍👍

Best cafe in town. Lovely staff, great food with a good coice and all freshly cooked, served promptly. Delicious home bakes also. All in a scenic location overlooking the harbour and a stones throw from the beach.

Went for the first time to the cafe, enjoyed the food but disappointed by the price. For 2 bowls of soup, 2 teas and a coffee it was £24. I feel this was very overpriced.

Four of us visited on a busy Saturday lunchtime. My teens can be fussy but they were unanimous that the Basil Burger was delicious and one of the best burgers they’ve ever had. The Cullen skink was beautiful - thick, creamy and perfectly seasoned. And finally the Cubano Sandwich….wow it was fabulous. All four of us cleared our plates and the quality of the food dominated the conversation while eating and again later on. Something also worthy of mention was the service. All staff members were smiling, helpful and super polite. I heard one having an occasional quiet little sing along to the radio which was just lovely and seemed indicative of someone happy in their work. Well done everyone at Basil - you absolutely nailed it in every way!

Visited this small cafe twice during our short break in Nairn. Food was excellent on both occasions, especially the home made soup. It is not the fanciest restaurant but the service and quality of food makes it worthy of 5 stars in my opinion.

Looking for somewhere to have lunch, we found basil Harbour cafe, we had a fantastic fish finger sandwich and a big bowl of chips as a side order. The food was quickly served and was of generous portions, very tasty indeed. Lovely little cafe by the harbour, we would highly recommend as somewhere to eat. Whilst eating our lunch noticed some artwork from local artists for sale, we treat ourselves to a lovely painting of a stag on the hillside, which the cafe staff kindly wrapped up for us. Thanks again.

I handed over £10 and the girl said to wait outside for my order I hung around for a few moments to get my 50p change but she said again to wait outside for my order, so I went outside. I never challenged her on my 50p change ( as it was only 50p) but I do feel that I should have offered the 50p and for me to say to her keep the change. It was just a bit weird.

Our new favourite place to visit, I felt compelled to write this review after I saw the previous negative as we were there to witness that afternoon, we didn’t stay long enough to order the food as the usual ‘pick up food table’ was occupied and we felt mortified by this mans behaviour, not nice to witness. Basil cafe is the place to go for ice creams, coffees and cake, always fresh and tasty, when the cafe was open for sit down, we loved the full breakfast, i find myself saying “this is the best ….,,, I’ve ever tasted”, including the fish chowder, chilli, mushroom ciabatta, I could go on! Despite having dogs, I do look forward to going back when they open up the cafe with a ‘no dogs’ policy, I have enough drooling wet dog staring at me eat at home!

They were only doing take away when we were in Nairn. Lots of food, drink and ice cream choices. Purchased, hot chocolate, coffee, a sandwich and ice cream (two choices of cone or a paper cup). The ice cream came with a serviette round the cone, which is brilliant. It is one of my pet hates that ice cream sellers often handle the cone and don't wrap it in a serviette so I end up throwing half of the cone away. I asked about whether the Orkney cheddar cheese in the sandwich was vegetarian and the people in the cafe went out of there way to establish whether vegetarian rennet was used and it was. I was so impressed with the level of service and you can see into the kitchen when you are ordering your food and it is immaculate. There are plenty of places to sit nearby, it is just a shame that they shut at about 4/4.30 as I would have gone back for another drink. I can't recommend this cafe highly enough and I would definitely go back. They are doing a brilliant job.

Visited today on recommendation of a friend who was with me. Have to say the food was delicious (although we thought a bit pricey), freshly made and very quick to arrive and the young girl serving was more than helpful and extremely polite. The same however can not be said of the owner (?) Jamie who was extremely rude to my friend. With tables and chairs already packed together (my back was hard up against the wall heater) there’s barely enough room to get in and out. An elderly lady came to sit behind us and Jamie - in a very loud voice - shouted at my friend to ‘turn her chair’ to let the other lady in. Had he hung about we would have asked where to turn as we were already squashed together like sardines. The young girl was very embarrassed and apologised for his behaviour when we paid. 10/10 for food and staff but 0/10 for Jamie’s customer service.

Small but very pleasant. In summer, you can sit at the tables outside , bask in the sun ,people watch and admire the boats in the harbour. The soup is lovely and the cakes look great.

Lovely little cafe with a delicious menu. Not a lot if tables so can fill up quickly but definitely worth a visit . Varied menu Including vegetarian . The Cullen skink is amazing and the cakes are varied and home made. Price is reasonable for what you get, you won't leave hungry. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Dog friendly as long as the dogs are well behaved.

When there are so many corporate chains, it is wonderful to know that you can still find a cafe that is friendly, welcoming and serves tasty food and is completely independent. We had breakfast, a delicious omelette and a sausage sandwich, which my very fussy son was delighted with! Also treated ourselves to cake...right choice! This cafe is kiddie friendly and also doggie friendly too and we met some lovely folk here. Really lovely staff too. Definitely recommended thanks!

The food was excellent at this no-frills but bright and clean restaurant. All dishes are made from scratch, taste fresh and authentic. We had friendly and efficient service and would certainly recommend that you give it a try.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !
