The food in here was just gorgeous. Full of flavour, presented beautifully and big portions sizes too. If you are truffle daft like me then you need to get yourself to Oro! The restaurant was beautiful and the service was great. It is a bit pricier so a great spot for a birthday or celebration. Love that the cocktails were also fantastic.

We just arrived in Edinburgh by train, tired and hungry. After climbing a very long set of stone stairs, with a lot of luggage, we arrived at The Southern Cross Cafe. Excellent food at reasonable prices and extraordinarily friendly service made it well worth the climb. Don’t miss the Toffee Sticky Pudding!

I love this wee place, but I’m afraid the standards are slipping and I don’t see them picking up any more awards unless they pull up their socks. We ordered the fish, chips and mushy peas, tea and bread and butter. The tea, bread and butter arrived 10 minutes before our food. When the food arrived we had to ask for cutlery, when the girl came back with our cutlery I asked if they’d forgotten the mushy peas only to be told that they’d run out and did we want beans? (7:30pm on a Saturday and out of peas?) As the food was already on the table we declined. The fish was lovely but the chips were luke warm. So disappointed. We will be back as we know it’s better than this one experience. Watch this space.

I live near Dunkeld and sing in a choir in Dunblane on a Wednesday night. My daughter studies in Glasgow. She had a spare evening so we decided to meet for a quick supper before choir. Randomly she parked outside the Riverside and we went in there. Great find. Lovely bright, timber-led interior. Staff very nice. Anna had a chorizo pizza, I had the sea bream. We’ll be back. Definitely. Maybe even fortnightly until the end of the choir season in the Spring! 😂

Anya was amazing! Such lovely service from start to finish! She noticed when we came in we had elderly grandparents with us so allowed us to choose where was most comfortable to sit for them and she also checked on us during our meal to make sure we were enjoying our food, anya was really patient when we were ordering our food which was very appreciated - such a lovely woman made our experience a lovely one thank you so much again!

We were passing through Inveraray and thought we’d stop off for a bit of lunch…. And thank our lucky stars we came across Brambles. As soon as we walked through the door, the vibe was lovely, friendly and attentive. We popped ourselves down, looked at the menu and all the home baking. Homemade sausage roll, Victoria Sponge and fruit scone ordered. OMG absolute delicious My wife said the scone was the best ever, the very best ever. light, tasty, fruity. The Victoria sponge was light, tasty and so moreish and the sausage roll… WOW yummy. It was such a wonderful experience from the food and drink to the atmosphere, happy worked and Heather was just so kind and helpful. If you passing, don’t pass this place and if you’re not passing, make a detour to Brambles of Inveraray, you won’t be disappointed, believe me AAA+++

We came for a birthday meal with friends. Set menu had excellent choices- it was hard to choose from. Fantastic meal and service in a really nice atmosphere. Cheese board was excellent- perfect ratio of biscuits to cheese which is so often not the case in other places. We travelled to come here and looking forward to coming back.

We were strolling the Royal Mike and looking for a light lunch. The historic Deacon’s House Cafe hit the spot! We initially were seated outside in the close adjacent to the cafe, but a table opened up inside and we chose to sit there. It was charming inside, with pictures relating the interesting story of Deacon Brodie on the walls. Apparently this was his workshop. The scones with clotted cream and jam were very good, as were the sandwiches. Prices were reasonable and service was good. Would definitely return.
