ORO in Glasgow City

Atmosphere was nice, and very courteous service indeed. Food is pricey although unsophisticated. Good quality however. Unfortunately it is unforgivable for a restaurant to get dietary restrictions wrong. The calzone that has been ordered onion free, was FULL of onions. No price reduction or refund had been offered.

Honestly had an amazing time here for my birthday meal on Monday 21st Oct. I attended with my mum, dad, brother and fiancé and all 5 of us couldn’t speak highly enough of the food here. We loved every dish that was ordered and to top it off the service was very attentive. The skillet cookie was to die for! We were sat on a round table on a platform at the back of the restaurant which was lovely as we could all talk to each other and it felt private. Can’t wait to come back to try some other dishes. Have heard of people coming here and always wanted to try it for myself and so glad we did!

The only downside was steps down to the toilets, which were difficult to navigate for one of my friends who is unstable on his feet

Not our first visit to Oro and as per usual - it didn't disappoint! The food was delicious and arrived quickly, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant!

What an absolute gem. Popped in here late one Thursday evening craving pizza, and we were not disappointed. Such lovely, friendly, professional service from everyone. The barman took up my challenge to create something fresh to drink with gin. I went with a simple margerhita pizza and it was perfect. No notes. We'll definitely return for a full meal soon as everyone keeps mentioning these doughnuts! 😀

The food is overpriced and very salty 🧂.I ordered a chicken pasta with broccoli it was OK.A very small portion and not worth £15.95.The service was amazing and so attentive.But the biggest shock was the price of the wine pinot grigo £39,that is a bloody disgrace.That was probably bought for £3/ per bottle,that is shocking when people have no money and are struggling.I don't think I will rushing back the food is too salty!!

We went for a family meal to celebrate a birthday. Staff very friendly & attentive. Food delicious. Atmosphere had a great buzz. Service was excellent despite it being very busy. Little gestures like stands for handbags were appreciated. The rosemary focaccia was THE best - & the kids loved the homemade donuts. Can’t wait to go back!

If you’re looking for the best pasta in Glasgow, Oro is the place to be! We tried the rosemary focaccia, mushroom tagliatelle, & penne arrabbiata, & it was all AMAZING. Everything was fresh and so flavourful. The service was also 10/10. Staff were all so friendly & attentive, which made the experience even better. Our server (whose name I forgot to catch) was the loveliest lady ever and looked after us so well🤍.Highly recommend.

Great atmosphere and food and genuinely friendly but inefficient service, maybe too many people servicing the same table, but we had to order a drink 3 separate times and it was wrong when it arrived, more than a little frustrating But the food was superb and we will be back

We have seen this place many times, this was our first visit. Having visited there are many good reasons why this has been there so long. Excellent service, food, staff, everything. Very much worth a visit.

Cozy Italian restaurant! Fast, attentive service! Great food, drinks, desserts! The women's washroom is clean, sophisticated, with a ceiling with special decor!

Was treated absolutely disgustingly here today by the staff over my son who is autistic was crying and making noise the staff member told us if we can’t get him to be quiet then we would be asked to leave absolutely shocking never experienced this in any restaurant before apart from today I even told him he has autism and can’t help it and he proceeded to tell me he needs to be quiet! Absolutely disgraceful don’t go here if you have children with special needs or just children in general unless you can press a mute button!

Best Italian restaurant in southside

Seated at short notice in peak time, Gorgeous decor, cosy seating next to bar. Service was attentive and relaxed, Tasty cocktails. **Food: Very Hit/Miss** Starters were delicious and good portions The ✨doughnuts✨stood out However, My main - Tagliatelle was far too salty, couldn’t eat a single bite, sent back. Partner’s main was edible though, salt dampened down by a nice pizza dough. The brownie with cherries was not quite right, the cherries might have been better off soaked in rum. Overall a fair impromptu dinner experience.

Dear gentle reader, There aren’t many simple pleasures in this cruel life we lead but good pizza is surely one of them. The diamond encrusted exterior of Oro reflects a gold standard in the art of pizza. Last night, I was lucky enough to gorge myself on a 12’ classic margherita with japelenos. The crust was both crisp and tender with a delightful chew. Each bite taking me to within an inch of a roaring wood-fired pizza oven. The tomato sauce is deliciously rich and complex, with undertones of garlic, oregano and olive oil. A humble, but generous helping of melted mozzarella cheese binds this culinary masterpiece together. The arrogant English food critic will tell you that London is the home of British pizza. But, as a Londoner myself, I beg to differ. I believe we have found it right here in this cultural paradise we call Shawlands.

Absolutely beautiful food, well priced, I would recommend Oro

Second time there and it was equally as good if not better than the first, food is just out of this world, they have the best lasagna I have ever tasted. We actually travelled from Annan in Dumfriesshire (166mile round trip) for the food and we were not disappointed.

Ordered the meatballs for starters and the fish for main. Portions were very generous especially the chips that came with the fish. Was not expecting a big plate so we took the rest home! Staff were friendly and prompt service. Will definitely be back.

From Dante's service to the al dente pasta this place never disappoints.The chicken alfredo was the best I've ever had, pasta is cooked perfectly every time. I also tried the Nutella cheesecake which was definitely homemade and so delicious (defo couldn't have eaten one to myself though). Soo good and would make this my regular Italian in the Southside for sure.

My family and I got a takeout here for my 21st birthday. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had any interaction with this establishment. The food was just as good as I remember, the Tagliatelle Bolognese was fantastic! The spicy chicken penne was lovely. The peppered steak pasta was a little on the undercooked and oily side, but aside from that: everything else was great! Made a very stressful night sail very smoothly! So thank you very much!

Great service and lovely food will be back

Been a few times, mostly for special occasions and it never disappoints. The food is always 10/10 and the staff is super friendly. The pizzas are the best in Glasgow with no hesitation but is everything, pastas and entrees as well. Will be back.

Great food as always. I got the calamari fritti, a pizza and an ice-cream as dessert. Everything was tasty.

The food is amazing but every single report of when it is open is incorrect. According to the restaurant they don’t serve food past 21.45 possibly much earlier.

Such a great restaurant. Food is spectacular but more importantly the staff are so friendly. Without doubt a treat to eat at this restaurant and the spirit of Glasgow is well and truly established right here.

My partner and I visited Oro for an early tea before a concert at Hampden. Service was great and quick to start with. Food was nice enough but came with a steep price. Throughout our meal, we were never asked if everything was ok. Our plates were collected swiftly yet we were never asked if we'd like anything else or a look at the desert menu. Instead someone comes back and presents us with the bill which we never asked for. This was really disappointing as we had been there under an hour and felt unwanted. Most likely won't return after this experience.

This is a firm favourite award winning diner in Shawlands. Always busy, even midweek, which speaks for itself. Service is second to none, the staff are always pleasant and helpful.

Excellent Italian restaurant that strikes the balance between sophisticated and welcoming. It's family friendly while still feeling classy enough to make it feel special. Case in point - they have two versions of carbonara: one the classic creamy style and the other the traditional, lighter, egg one. Good wine selection, understanding and accommodating with allergies.

Personally having been a fan of Oro for years I have been left feeling very disappointed and upset with the poor customer service this establishment provided at a recent dinner. The manager is unwilling to put his ego aside in aid of quality customer care and it is reflected in the previous poor google reviews. In most establishments mediocre food can be overlooked when made up for by friendly staff willing to provide good service, unfortunately that was not the case here. It is a shame that a restaurant that was a fan favourite treats their customers (their income) so poorly. With a manager who hides behind his wait staff and exercises a need to be right even when customers are willing to overlook hiccups, this restaurant will see a dwindling customer base fast.

Never the type of person to leave a bad review, however after my experience I would not recommend this place. I have always heard such good things about this place but unfortunately I cannot say the same. Went out for a celebration, ordered 2 pastas and a pizza, the pizza was not of standard was cold and not pleasant. We disregarded this and went to try our pasta, the pasta was hard and chewy, I politely asked if I could get this fixed to where I was told that their pasta is made that way however they would get it fixed, which I appreciated. Food was brought back out and 1 of the pastas was better however my own was still the same way I sent it back, and unfortunately not enjoyable for me to eat. So we had 1 slice taken out the pizza and my plate still full. The server said “do you want all this boxed up as still plates full” to where I said no. The bill was brought over and I spoke to the server saying I didn’t feel happy to pay for the pasta as it was full and was not fixed when brought out the 2nd time, I was told to wait till he spoke to a manager then minutes later came over with a new receipt and had taken the pasta off. I was still very upset and annoyed as I felt this had ruined my celebrations, my mum called the restaurant for me when I left to simply say that I was highly disappointed and hoped that they would fix their mistake, to be told that they have people like me calling to complain all the time that it doesn’t affect their business. That he looked forward to reading my bad review. Which I think is beyond disrespectful and shows that they do not care about customer returns or satisfaction just simply the money. Bad food experience can simply be a mistake of the night and an error but rude customer service tells you everything you need to know, not one apology was given and will certainly not recommend this place to anyone.

The vino was expensive so won't be back, pity as the staff were so good. Food was nice.

Great authentic Italian restaurant with opulent décor but with the name Oro (Gold) you might have expected that :). Pizza was as good as the pizzas I have had in Italy and service was very good.

Had a gorgeous dinner on Friday 31st May. The carbonara was so tasty. We ate outside as it was a lovely sunny evening. Steven the waiter serving us was exceptional, he was so attentive and pleasant.

Regular customers at Oro. We’ve been eating here for about 20 years. Always good food, service and atmosphere. Young chap who served us on Monday we hadn’t met before however up to usual excellent standard. Time spent by the owners training their staff pays off big style.

We were at Oro for a Friday family birthday night out. It has long been a favourite choice as a star of the Glasgow Southside food scene. The decor is dress up 'out, out', with a mix of young couples, date nights, family groups, friends, and parties lending a bustling atmosphere. Lots of young staff, led by the owners who greet you for your booking. Food as good as ever, but there are definitely fewer prawns and chicken in dishes chosen than a few years ago. Desserts in a traditional chilled cabinet by the bar, full of sticky delights like Nutella Cheesecake and Tiramisu. Overall, an indulgent and fun meal in glam surroundings, with great, good humoured service.

Fantastic meal for 8 of us on a wednesday night which was so busy, I would advise to book. We all had different dishes from pasta to pizza delicious

Got 2 small bite size pieces of chicken in 18£ dish of penne pasta extra cost for the chicken My son had same dish and portion very different Manager very rude and abusive when brought up the issue at.end of meal and was told we should have checked the meal before starting eating I will never recommend this place Just afyer you money left being told I was lying as chef checks the meals We asked for something to be done no discount or card being offered we then did tell them we will be leaving a review about this We where never asked about our meals in time to have gone through a bowl of past in search of pieces of chicken Bit after the meal wich was only half eaten and no chicken other than 2 pieces So please check through your meal before eaten or you will get the same arrogant answer like the reply to this review Shocking service and obviously only intrested in money and not return custom or the fact we where celebrating a birthday To be told you are lying to get discount shows the type of people they are my bilwas £180 for 5 and £34 for 2 plate of penne pasta with chicken is not good enough when another guest had the same dish with adequate amounts of chicken

We had a FAB night for our meal at Oro in Shawlands, the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were a credit to their employers, we would recommend this restaurant to everybody to try and we will definitely be back ourselves, great food, great atmosphere and definitely fantastic staff

Their pizzas are very good. Whenever I go on holiday in Scotland, I will definitely stop by. I especially recommend bolmalzemos.

Fantastic service, even better food! We tool our little one and he was in love with the 'fish tank'. Team were amazing and honestly a beautiful place. Never had such an amazing meal! Always amazing! Been a good few times and everything I’ve tried has always been high quality. Most recently after some lovely starters and mains we got the cannoli tree where you get given the empty cannoli pastry and fill it yourself which was fun! And of course really tasty. Something a bit different and between a few of us it was a perfect dessert as it wasn’t too much.

Would just like to say what an amazing lunch we had today, the food was outstanding! As was the incredible service. I stupidly didn’t even think to ask for an easily accessible seat upstairs for my disabled mum and the young man couldn’t have been any more helpful! told me to get my mum brought round the back and we could park in the lane and she could come in the back door. He helped with her walker , held the door , helped her in and just made the process so simple and accommodated for her. He even said if we wanted to park outside all night and leave the car we were more than welcome too. I usually am on the ball with making sure to say my mum is disabled and needs to be seated in certain areas to make things easier and I just totally blanked. Thank you to all the staff, our family had a brilliant experience! The restaurant is stunning and we can’t wait to come back. It was my gran’s birthday today, she recently passed so we had a family day in honour of it and the full experience was perfect! The staff are so friendly and it just had such a family feel, thanks again

I was very disappointed as my son tried to take my here for birthday dinner on Tuesday . We didn't book as he didn't know what time he would be finished work . According to website it should have been open and no notice was outside . We have been before and loved it , so we're looking forward to dinner after 30 mins drive in rush hour.

We have eaten at Oro dozens of times, both in the restaurant and for take away. We like the quality of the food. For example, the pizza, in our book, plays in the same league as Paesano's (we actually sligthly prefer Oro). Service in the restaurant is also excellent. Why three stars then? Simply, the last two times we have been so disappointed by the value for money that I am not even sure we'll try another time. We get it: Costs are going up for everyone so we understand that restaurants increase their prices also. But Oro have increased their Pizza prices by an eye-watering 13.5% some time this summer. As a result, we are now paying £20.95 for a traditional pizza with 4 toppings (and no: none of the toppings is the gold leaf that they offer; and no, the price is just for the pizza and does not include delivery charges). This is simply too dear for a pizza. For this price tag I can get two pizzas at Paesano's. What's even more disappointing is that Oro combines inflation with skimpflation: Not only did the price for the pizza go up – we are additionally getting less in return. For example, two of our ingredients we always get are flame-roasted garlic and gorgonzola. The last two times we went, we had two thin slices of garlic and, literally, a few tiny crumbs of gorgonzola. At first we thought they had forgotten about the Gorgonzola but upon further inspection we were able to detect a few traces. That's closer to cross contamination than what I would expect for £2.50 worth of blue cheese. Believe me when I say that there was so little that we weren't able to taste the Gorgonzola at all. I hope Oro thinks about their pricing. Their pizzas are good but they used to be better (i.e. more generously topped). And they are not good enough to warrant a 20 quid price tag each.

Amazing food and service! Loved it

Great food as always. I ordered Mozzarella fritto for starter and chicken and mushroom risotto for main, my husband had the chicken Milanese with Parma ham and mozzarella, with a side of Cajun fries. Massive portion, the chicken Milanese is almost the size of a pizza! Delicious food, fries were slightly spicy for us but still good. We shared the Nutella cheesecake for dessert which was amazing

Terrible tried to cancel out table due to a burst pipe in our flat an hour before meal we where chatted 80 pounds cancellation fee so I called back to tell them about our situation water pouring into house and was answered by a very cheeky abrupt manager who proceeded to tell me to claim the 80 pound charge from my house insurance ...couldn't believe what I was hearing veri inappropriate thing to say to a customer unprofessional to say the least ..such a bad attitude and so rude will not be back ridiculous
