I love this wee place, but I’m afraid the standards are slipping and I don’t see them picking up any more awards unless they pull up their socks. We ordered the fish, chips and mushy peas, tea and bread and butter. The tea, bread and butter arrived 10 minutes before our food. When the food arrived we had to ask for cutlery, when the girl came back with our cutlery I asked if they’d forgotten the mushy peas only to be told that they’d run out and did we want beans? (7:30pm on a Saturday and out of peas?) As the food was already on the table we declined. The fish was lovely but the chips were luke warm. So disappointed. We will be back as we know it’s better than this one experience. Watch this space.

I have been a Wee Chippy Advocate for a long time, sadly though, not today. Overcooked & dry fish and under cooked chips. Cold mushy peas and luke warm beans. The lady who served us initially, was lovely, warm welcoming, just what you want, sadly the Lady who replaced my Husband's cold mushy peas, wasn't. "Hope that suits you now?", was her comment as she rolled her eyes! You only win competitions if your Customers are happy, sadly, not today.

Soggy fish and chips are never good. The fresh fish wasn't fresh, possibly frozen. The cod was very very thin.…questionable if it was cod or not. 45 minute wait for take out not worth it! Will not go back.

We have been coming here for years and always found it to be on par with it's more famous neighbours down the street. Not on this visit though. We had to have takeaway as we had our dog with us so we ordered two fish suppers and sat outside. Very disappointed with our meals mainly due to the batter on the fish being extremely greasy. As soon as you touched it your fingers were coated in oil. The fish inside the terrible batter was good though but bad batter = bad fish supper.

Ordered a takeaway this evening and was unfortunately spoiled because our drinks order was missed off.....so meant a trip back to get a refund. Peas were also cold unfortunately, didn't kick up a fuss as I'm on holiday. Drinks should have been complementary because of their mistake. Apology wasn't really offered. Shame as the fish and chips were otherwise excellent.

Booked a table online. When we turned up I told them we had a booking. They didn't even ask our name and showed us to an unset table. Other tables were already set with a reserved label on them. After taking our order, the drinks were delivered to our table alongside bread and butter. Because the table wasn't set, I had to ask for side plates. When our main courses arrived, I was told the mushy peas would just be coming. After eating a third of my dinner, I had to ask how long the mushy peas would be. I did get them eventually. The staff were always helpful when we asked for anything, but it's a shame our table seemed to have so many things missing from the start. The fish and chips were excellent, but the 'artisan bread' is just plain sliced loaf.

Visited on our way back to Edinburgh Airport with our friends from Aberdeen. A great find, we reserved a table which was ready and waiting for us right in the window overlooking the harbour. We will definitely be going back when we are next in the area.

I I have been following Wee Chippy on FB for over a year, and based on reviews, I actually planned my Scotland trip to include them. I hate to say, I was disappointed. I did the take away, and had to wait quite a while, but that wasn’t the problem. When my order finally did come they gave me breaded instead of battered haddock. Since the outside seating only has a view of a wall, I walked down the pier a bit to sit and was disappointed to open my package and find I had the wrong order. I walked back and they promptly replaced it with the correct order and the staff was very nice. It was a good size portion. However, I found the fish to be quite good but the battered coating to be extremely oily, and the fries were undercooked. Not a good experience at all. Guess I hit an off day.

We visited the take away late on a Monday evening. The queue was very large and a member of staff was taking order for people in the queue. Was quite a wait for the food but it was worth it. Not the cheapest chippy tea but good sized portion of fish. Could of done with a few more chips. Went to the take away as a member of our party is vegan and apparently they fry in veg oil opposed to dripping and I can say it actually tasted better than the usual we get. Chippy also sells beers/ wine. If you purchase an alcoholic drink at the take away they can't open it for you unless you sit in there outdoor restaurant seating area I guess for licencing purposes but if you have a bottle opener on your keyring like we did you will be fine 👍

Very tasty. Have been here many times. Better selection than others nearby in my opinion. I saw someone get gluten free before and was impressed they took it so seriously and were so careful. I saw a sign saying that they do also use separate fryers/ovens for gluten free I think but best to double check with them in case that changes in the future rather than taking my word for it! Unfortunately not dog friendly so makes it harder to get your chips if you have dogs as they don't allow them inside. I wish chippys would go back to wrapping in paper. Last time I got takeaway from the Wee Chippy, none of the boxes were closed properly and when I tried they were flimsy at best, and so they lose heat so much faster.

Fantastic fish and chip shop. Good outdoor seating and views towards the water although we sat in. The best fish and chips I’ve tasted. I am not a big fish lover but I really enjoyed it here. The Anstruther fish and chips bar along the road is like a cattle market. This place had very spaced out seating. My wife and me went in and although there were reserved tables, they accommodated us. Amazing service. They were busy so our tea had cooled. Not a problem. I asked for new pots, and they duly obliged. Looking forward to returning to this wonderful establishment. We left full due to the great portion size.

The queue for the chippy down the street is there for a reason, go there or anywhere else! I hate leaving bad reviews but this place left me and my family utterly disappointed. First of all the menu just says "Fish". No idea if it's cod, haddock or something else entirely and no option to choose. Turns out the staff member we asked had "no idea" and disappeared to ask someone else and never came back. We were then given our "artisan" bread and butter which turned out to be stale, unfrozen, left out bits of sliced bread. Our food arrived with no peas and no explanation so we asked for them. The staff member then jumped down our throat to say they'd ran out. How were we to know!? During our meal however, the couple sat next to us and the family behind us got their peas so who knows what happened there. It's truly not worth it. Bland, chewy fish, rude staff and dirty coasters. We even had to chase them twice for the bill. Go elsewhere.

We cannot recommend the food. The fries were fried far too short and were almost soggy. The fish was crispy, but unfortunately, like the rest of the food, completely tasteless. The mac and cheese just tasted like grease. Somehow everything was super greasy and didn't taste like anything. The onion rings were good but also way too greasy. We couldn't understand the award being advertised.

My wife and I had booked a table. It was ready when we arrived. We wiped spilled milk from one of the chairs without any fuss as these things happen. We ordered fish and chips after about 5 minutes. It was a good helping when the food eventually arrived….and we were looked after by attentive and polite waitress staff. The big problem was with the time it took to provide the fish and chips which showed up after a further 30 minute wait…..it was clear that we were not the only customers who experienced this delay. They describe it as a 5* fish and chip restaurant…….our experience… how long does it take to deep fry battered fish and put a scoop of chips on a plate? After all, providing a fish supper on a plate is far from a celebration of elite Gastronomy.

This is a much awarded small Fish 'n Chips place near Anstruther fishing harbour. Anstruther is a small town set at the East Coast of Scotland. The nearest city is Sterling, which is about 56 miles from Asntruther. We had fish and chips, calamari rings, fries and curry fries. The fish was excellent. So also calamari. The helping is generous so that two people can share F 'n Ch. The place was fully so it too some time to serve us.

The fish was very small and food wasn't very hot, mushy peas were good. 3 of us dined, but we only got 2 pots of tea and 2 wee jugs of milk. Side plates for the bread would be a good idea as 6 pieces of bread and several portions of butter on a shallow bowl meant we had to butter the bread either in our hands or on the table. Home made tartar sauce was not made traditionally with capers, it was made with gherkins and incredibly chunky. Waitresses very pleasant and efficient. Would we go again, maybe not.

My first review was a bit unfair as I thought the food was pricey....given the fact that wholesalers have not brought prices down and the shops have to lift the price to make a living. So I should have done a bit of homework. However the Wee Chippy has grown into a superb business. Their gluten free menu extends to kids aswell as adults and done every day. I don't think I have ever known a frier to do that. Weekly special menu is high end with local and Scottish produce the main aim. This business is leading the way of showing innovation and diversity to get people to enjoy a day out by the sea. Food is top notch.

We visited on a sunny afternoon in late June 2024. This place was recommended to us by folks we met on our walking holiday. I waited for service, as the only person in the take-out line, for at least 5 minutes while the staff chatted with someone they knew. We received two pieces of "fish" and some limp chips. One of the pieces of "fish" was 90% batter, the other had a thin piece of dry tasteless fish. We dined outside on the patio. It was strewn with litter as the rubbish bin was overflowing. Based on our experience, we do not understand the awards received by this restaurant and would recommend against dining here.

Firstly, many thanks for hosting my wife’s 70th birthday party on Saturday 9 November. Everyone that was present (32 people) was full of praise for the quality of the food, the service and the superb venue for such a party. We cannot praise your restaurant highly enough. Many thanks again and we will return.

Have been a handful of times over the years and always enjoyed it. Went again today and it was absolutely faultless. Not a thing I thought could be improved on any of the dishes or the service!

Sushi was not cold and nothing really tasted like sushi from any of the places I've ever had it (30-40 times in the last 10 years). Imitation krab used as well instead of real crab. Haggis roll was alright, as was the tempura, but definitely not going back. Quality was less than supermarket sushi.
