Have been going to this resturant regularly for nearly 10 years. Always giving it a 5 star rating.
Last night for my wife’s birthday we visited again expecting our usual high standards.
Firstly, the food was excellent as normal, no issues there at all.
But for some strange reason our engagement with the staff including the owner was very “flat and low energy”.
We waited 40 minutes for our first course to be delivered , Arancini and Mozarella Fritta …. No one explained why the wait was so long.
Apart from asking for our order and delivering the food there was NO attempt to engage in conversation with us…. A mile away from the experience when Marisa was front of house in the early days.
This was the first time in ten years going to Gigi’s that I haven’t left a tip.
Your food is excellent, you need to refocus your standards of service as your prices are now at “ Edinburgh” levels… so the experience needs to be top notch.
Also an increase in Veggie pasta options would be a good idea both for the customers and your profit line.
Hope to come back and also hear some more good reviews.
Disappointed local and big advocate of Gigi’s Bonnyrigg.
Cené y pedí el pho con carne de res en rodajas cocida y albóndigas, así como el rollo de verano. El caldo pho no era tan fuerte como estoy acostumbrado, pero era agradable. El rollo de verano era bueno también. El servicio fue amable y rápido.
We ended up in the Table de Hote part of the building which is split in 2.
One side very expensive, limited choice. We were with a 6 year old, which should have been an indication that we were in the wrong side....
Other part of establishment would have been much better for us.
Bespoke burgers, all the trimmings and a free drink....FFS. Much better value.
We spent over £200 for 4 adults and 1 child.
Make sure you book the right part of the establishment....
One kitchen serving 2 different restaurants, felt like we had been ripped off....the owner could have advised us better.
My partner says this was one of the best pizzas he’s had in a long time and he has very high standards & eats a lot of pizza!
They were the only place in the area open on Bank holiday Sunday, luckily we didn’t have to book, but it was obvious this place is popular and for good reason! Had 2 delicious pizzas, didn’t take long, service was friendly, menu was varied plus you can make your own pizza if none of the options suit you.
$23 burger should have been $5. Bacon undercooked, burger meat overcooked and bread was stale. Crab aroncini had no flavor. Unbelievable the prices they are charging for their food. Steak knife was bent at the top upon arrival, and the plate was crusty with food remnants. Staff was pleasant and the main reason they are getting 1 star and not a zero star review.
Had a delicious meal here outside in the garden under the tent. The meal was delicious and Erica and her staff were very warm, welcoming and friendly. It was lovely to meet Rory who is a regular who props up the bar and apparently is more into food than pints. Will definitely go there again some time to try some of the other delicious dishes on the menu.
Thanks Erica (and Rory :-).
Best wishes,
Dianne
Used it often however lately the quantity and quality has lowered.
Play a game of I wonder if there is any chicken in the curry. If you do find some it's usually four small pieces they way you are supposed to think you got lots....aye continue treat customers that way and it is you that will lose business.
Sadly that is the theme in Lanark and Carluke, low quality and Quantity take aways
My Dad and I enjoyed a thoroughly delicious, delightful lunch here. It was quiet but didn't lack atmosphere, beautiful old build full of charm, but with important aspects such as a wheelchair accessible entrance and toilet. Ben looked after us and was kind and attentive in all the ways that matters to us when we're having a treat of good food!
