I was really disappointed, I booked this place as a treat for my birthday and after looking over the menu decided we’d like to make the most out of it and opted for the evening menu to ensure we got a taste of all the meats.
It quickly became clear to us that they were just bringing round the same meats, specifically those from the lunch time menu.
There is an extra charge for a reason and I feel they need to bring more variety out in the evening otherwise it’s a waste of money.
When I’ve been to their rival meats were more varied. I did also ask several times but nothing changed.
Although the food we had was lovely I did feel disappointed due to the high cost, I expected better..
As a couple, we had been highly recommended to try this place. When we arrived, luckily there was no queue and we found a seat straight away. We had been warned that it gets very busy, so to expect to have to wait.
The server was extremely friendly and very attentive. Considering she was the only one greeting, taking orders and serving, she did an amazing job. We could not fault the service at all. I can't say that there was an atmosphere as such, but an enjoyable visit.
We ordered a pie each, one with mash and one without. One with mushy peas, one with garden peas. When they came, they both had mushy peas. It was no issue to have the plate taken away and changed, immediately being brought back to us.
However, we can't say we were overly enamoured with the pies, or the mash. The mash was flavourless. Could have done with a little bit of seasoning, and being more creamy. It was bland and tasted quite starchy and watery. The steak & ale pie was also very bland. It consisted of only steak, gravy and pastry. We would have thought there would have been some mushroom or onion, or both in with it. The sausage and black pudding pie, also very bland. There was just a wedge of sausage meat, with 3 tiny specks of black pudding in it. Considering the pies are made with locally sourced products, we felt they were almost like frozen pies that had been heated up.
Although the review probably feels like it's all negative, that is not the point I am trying to make. Just a few hints for the business to maybe improve on.
We are pleased we have finally managed to visit. And would go again in the future.
Visited for girls lunch in late April. We were seated at a lovely table outside, lots of cushions and a very comfortable setting. We ordered 3 centre cut filet steaks and they were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Cooked to perfection. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, i'm fortunate enough to live close by and have been many times. The chefs really know how to cook and how to flavour their dishes. The bone marrow sauce is just stunning. The menu changes often and they use local ingredients whenever possible.
The ingredients used are always top quality, it's such a treat to eat here, the prices are very reasonable.
A true gem.
Flies on the buns on an open counter. Ordered 3 drinks to sit down and was asked to wait outside for our takeaway order. Absolutely shocking and never been made to feel more unwelcome at an establishment.
What a lovely experience! The atmosphere was just perfect, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. We were even surprised with a birthday cupcake for my daughter—such a sweet touch! The variety on the salad table was impressive, and we all enjoyed trying new dishes; the meat was delicious and plentiful. I can't wait to come back for another meal!
Food and drink all amazing, excellent staff, couldn't ask for better service. Daniel the server was polite and efficient. Had a drink at the bar too Sam served us was constantly on the go, but still found time to talk to us. Fantastic customer service from all. Good value for money. Definitely worth a visit weather for food or drinks.
We came here as a mixture of family and friends for a family members 18th birthday!
The restaurant is very clean with friendly staff. Lots of meat choices and ideal for the teenage growing boys on our table.
Yes they do add a 10% service charge on to your bill but it is not compulsory and you can ask for it to be removed. Unfortunately we had been told a cake would be brought out with it being a birthday but it wasn’t so we didn’t agree to the service charge. All in all a great experience and would return
This is the third time I’ve visited their branch at The Merrion Way and will probably be my last. The first time was quite pleasant, the second time not so good and the third time was absolutely terrible. I was with two friends and we all agreed that the meals were terrible. Too dry, too bland and very, very salty. We complained and they took our meals away to be re-vamped. They just added water and a sprinkle of chilli which made no difference whatsoever. Customer service was also very poor. In future I’ll just stick to their branch at Burley. Never disappointed there and Shakeel looks after you.
