The Westwood Restaurant in East Riding of Yorkshire

An excellent meal was spoilt by the noisy table next to us. Some people have no awareness of their loud voices and spatial perception. However, when requested, we were located to another table to alleviate the issue. I do think more should be done to overcome this issue, especially in a restricted space as others must also have been affected.

Great food my top 5 meals of all time couldn't fault it

This was not the experience we were expecting. Totally disappointing and our day was spoilt. We ordered the Dexter rib eye steak which I was expecting to be melt in the mouth. Not to be. It was so full of gristle that we couldn't eat it. When we complained about it we were told that as it was rib eye we should expect fat which we always do as that what makes rib eye so tasty and usually tender. We said that we expect and accept fat but not gristle. The manager did not listen and kept on about fat. To add insult to injury she than said that we should have said about it when they initially asked if everything was ok when we first started eating. Their attitude was then quite hostile. I would never go back and would definitely not recommend this restaurant. We will keep to the Pipe and Glass at North Dalton in future. The food is always excellent there.

Obviously not cheap, but absolutely worth the money. Went there for our anniversary, beautiful meal and excellent service throughout.

This place never disappoints, always quality food with friendly staff. Easily the best restaurant in the area and would highly recommend for a special occasion or as a treat.

Me my brother in law and nephew were passing by after a mornings shooting and called in for lunch, although we hadn’t booked they kindly found us a table ! We all enjoyed great food and great service and will all definitely visit again! All in all a very nice experience

WOW!!! Locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfect - sophisticated attentive service - cannot fault this fine dining experience. Superb quality Italian wines, original cocktails and a delight to savour all 4 courses over 4 hours in a stunning dining room. Having eaten all over the world, can't fault this restaurant. You MUST dine here !! It was our pleasure to pay the check and reward the staff for their excellent service.

We booked the restaurant to celebrate my brother and sister in laws golden wedding anniversary and visited 2 days before to pay for champagne and wine and left a golden ribbon to be tied around bottle to celebrate but was very disappointed with the welcome as we were lead to our table and after getting water and menus we got our bottle with no ribbon or congratulations, it was a bit of a let down but received 2 macaroons as an apology.

Went there for anniversary dinner. Food was good, but not worth the price. We had a table inside and it was very hot, I would say AC is a must in a busy restaurant like this.

Four of us arrived approximately 1.15 pm having been nearby after viewing a new property purchase on New Walk and wanting a coffee and pot of tea. We have eaten at the restaurant on several occasions before and thought the delightful setting would be ideal just for that hot beverage refreshment. We were told the business was restaurant food based and not available for hot drinks alone, BUT on explaining our circumstances the member of staff (Rebecca) responded positively with our request for fresh coffees and a pot of tea. Rebecca gave a professional friendly courteous and first class service clearly having the personality and talent to widen the parameters in responding to our simple refreshment request. We enjoyed the 45 minute time out we needed - in pristine & excellent surroundings - made possible by Rebecca. Thank you.

Was an absolutely amazing meal. The strawberry Mojito cocktail was phenomenal.

Excellent place for a great dinner. We were are group of 10 on a business dinner, each of us ordering from the a-la-carte menu, which is never easy for a restaurant. Service was excellent, very efficient, all orders came out correct, food was wonderful.

Oh my the food was the best i have ever tasted and we have been to a few high end restaurants in the UK. They even presented my hubby a surprise birthday dessert which was very special. Absolutely great service from the start to finish.Such friendly staff.Very relaxed atmosphere.I like how your aren't rushed at all, and given ample time to read and choose from the menu.Food was exceptional. This restaurant is simply stunning. The service and food makes this a great choice. We had the Leven duck salad followed by two perfectly cooked fillet steaks. The servers were all lovely and were attentive throughout

If there is a better restaurant in East Yorkshire I am yet to find it. This place is special the food is always delicious and the service exemplary! Highly recommended and never fails to deliver and we have been visiting since it opened its doors.

The Westwood is right up with the best, lovely venue and ambience, great staff, and outstanding food. Busy, popular place, so the noise level can rise in the evenings in our experience; therefore lunchtime (with a special lunch menu to augment the alc menu) is perfect for us. On this visit, once again, we couldn’t fault it, and for those who wince at the prices, you really do get what you pay for!

We went to The Westwood to celebrate our anniversary. We had an amazing experience. The food, the drinks, the service, and the ambiance were all fantastic. You can’t miss their meat, both the fillet and ribeye were cooked to perfection. The restaurant is worth being on the Michelin guide.

The food and wine were exquisite. Special mention to Emma our sever as she was wonderful. A great blend of knowledge, attentiveness and a fabulous sense of humour..

Booked the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend, we were not disappointed. The restaurant was very well laid out, not too busy when we visited, cool and not too warm. We were seated at our table and offered drinks straight away, after a few minutes we gave the waitress our order and within 15 minutes we had our starters of sashimi tuna tartare and asparagus with a lightly crisped soft boiled egg and charitzo. For mains we had sea bass and wagyu steak, with seasonal vegetables, for pudding we finished with chocolate preline and choux bun. All the dishes were superbly presented, the quality of the produce was first class, we both thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hours at the restaurant and will definitely return. I would not hesitate to recommend the Westwood to anyone who appreciates fine dining at reasonable prices

Had a birthday dinner here. It goes without saying that the food was exceptionally good. My bavette steak was beautifully cooked, with a delicious sauce, and every bite was a pleasure to eat. The soup was also first class and could not have been bettered. I was also incredibly impressed by the Mai Tai cocktail I ordered - it took a while, but that was a good sign, as it was perfectly made and delicious. I always think cocktails are a good way to judge exactly how good a venue is when it comes to drinks, and this didn’t disappoint. Service was also impeccable throughout. However I was slightly disappointed that there was no acknowledgment of the fact it was my birthday - I had mentioned it on the booking, as I was asked. Surely some token recognition could have been made? A mini birthday cake or something? After all, I paid well over £300. Why do they ask during the booking process in the first place if they are just going to ignore it? Then there is the other downside - you will pay through the nose if you dine here at night. It is wallet-bustingly expensive. Yes it’s good, but it is really good enough to justify a cost of £80+ per person? I’m not sure, if I’m honest. It’s all relative, of course - If you’re used to paying London prices, it would probably seem cheap. But this restaurant is in Yorkshire! Three was an error on the bill and we were overcharged (billed twice) for a main course. It was corrected the next day when I rang up without any hassle, but I would recommend checking your bill carefully. Errors clearly can occur. Overall there’s no question this restaurant is very impressive but it’s unlikely I would dine here again at night. I might try the lunch menu as it is priced more attractively.

Very lucky to have good weather and to be able to sit outside for lunch in the lovely courtyard with first class service, food and drink.

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. My wife and I booked a table last night to celebrate our anniversary with our daughter. From the booking process, which invites you to indicate dietary requirements, to arrival where we were invited to the lounge upstairs for a drink while they got the table ready and took our orders, to the fantastic food and drink - Stone Bass, Wagyu steak and and ribeye steak all exceptional (loved the chimichurri!) - to the fantastic attentive but not invasive staff. Every element combined with a lovely atmosphere to make a really special night. Thankyou - we will be back!

Perfect lunch on the terrace at The Westwood yesterday. Haven’t been for years so it was nice to visit again. The Bev Westwood is an exceptional example of a stylish exciting dining experience. I have eaten here several times and each time as good as the last. The restaurant screams class and the food mirrors that too. I have eaten at many great restaurants around the world including some great ones in London and the Westwood stands up to them all. This really is one of my top all time restaurants. The famous duck salad is the stuff of dreams and the steaks are phenomenal. The staff are amazing Michelle always makes everyone welcome with her personable ways and very attentive nature! Would recommend here to anyone with confidence. Cannot find fault with this place!

Absolutely amazing. Food was sublime, simply perfect. Didn't sit outside on the veranda as was too cold but it looked amazing all set up with the heaters and blankets and seating. Inside just as nice and food was spot on. Had fillet steak and rib eye steak between two of us and some cocktails, couldn't have faulted any of it. Waiter was smart and polite and knew the menu when asked by another table what something was he gave a detailed run down of how it was cooked and the ingredients. Very professional staff, no pathetic chit chat trying to be your friend and asking how your day was, I hate that. This was purely professional but also polite and everything was geared around the food and experience. Loved every mouthful of the food especially the marrowbone sauce which was divine and went perfectly with the steak.

This is mine and my husbands favourite place to visit for a date night meal. The food is exquisite and the attention to detail is sublime. Highly recommend the starter duck salad and the fillet steak. The staff are always so polite and professional. We also recently visited for lunch too - the prix fix menu is great value for money.

An excellent dining experience. This place has it all ! Top quality food with the majority sourced locally. Extensive wine list with some different options to try. All dishes are very well presented. I also noticed that the entry level set lunch is very good value for those on a budget.

Visited with my partner and mother for lunch on a Saturday. Service, cocktails, and food were fantastic. I had the duck starter, shared the W steak for main,and a few sides - both delicious, well put together and generous portions. Dessert very good as well. I'm sure we'll be back!

Impeccable service and great atmosphere as always. I think I've ranged from 3 to 5 star reviews over the years and perhaps I'm now settled on a 4 minus. The food is immaculately presented but ultimately it is too rich and lacking flair. If it wasn't for the rest of the excellent experience I wouldn't recommend forking out for the Westwood as the centrepiece is a bit lacklustre for the Michelinesque price. Wonderful staff and venue

We found this venue first class. The food was cooked & presented superbly, the staff were very professional & knowledgeable. The restaurant had a very nice ambience.We would highly recommend this venue. It is a place we have often said we should try, now we have we will definitely be back.

The food was wonderful, just as it was on our 2 previous visits. The quiet night was spoilt by a rather loud, noisy, raucous, swearing group of individuals, (men and women) who appeared to be regulars! There was no need for their behaviour, and the lady ‘in charge’ couldn’t have given two jots! Instead of having a quiet word with the group she chose to ignore their behaviour, actually making excuses for them. It beggars belief! We thought a fight was going to break out! You don’t get that sort of behaviour eating in a regular pub, I certainly don’t want it, or expect it here! Disgraceful. Will we go back? Probably not in the near future! Sort yourselves out. 10/10 to the Chef.

Well cooked and presented food. We had tuna and scallops followed by turbot and venison. Perfectly cooked. Skei cod also looked good on a near by table. Not an over extensive wine list but a lot to like on it. Strongly recommend

Beautiful Food & Service shame the clientele and management let this Well established resturant down.. Thursday evening Date night and all we hear is a loud roudy table which on my way back from the bathroom I'm told to F...Off for walking past the table unfortunately this has put me right off returning it's a Michelin star Resturant and I don't think that kind of behaviour or language is appropriate... I spoke to the manager on exit I expressed my concern she wasn't interested even though had numerous complaints about the table all evening from other guests... A special occasion spoilt 😔

This was the fifth time we have been to the Westwood restaurant and once again it exceeded expectations. The food was fantastic! We both had a borata with beetroot and hazelnut crisp to start which was creamy and tart and set the tome for the rest of the meal. We both went for a fish main course, me cod, my wife turbot. Both were perfectly cooked and substantial portions, served with the perfect accompaniments. Washed down with a bottle of Pansa Blanco which was a revelation. Finished it all off with beautiful deserts and a coffee. You can keep you twelve course taster menus or your deconstructed interpretations of classics. The Westwood delivers fine food in hearty portions in lovely surroundings. The Prix Fixe menu will get you three courses for two people sharing a bottle of wine for under £100 but will be the same quality as the Al a Carte……simply brilliant.

Hats off to the head waitress who dealt with my issue without any fuss, don't like to raise things generally but on this occasion it was necessary. Food was delicious...

One of the best restaurants in the area by far. Always phenomenal food, service and atmosphere. The W bar upstairs serves excellent drinks before your meal. If you like your steak, you must try their signature bone-in prime rib steak marinade in bourbon, molasses and thyme as it is absolutely delicious!

Outstanding value. Cured Ham, pork & pistachio terrine with pickles & bread was thoroughly enjoyed by friends. Cauliflower, Comte & bacon soup was absolutely delicious. Excellent quality of gluten free bread. Mains of poached & glazed chicken with Jerusalem artichoke & broccoli looked stunning & 😍 very much enjoyed. Prawn, fennel, edamame & dill risotto was beautiful 💕So good, forgot to take a picture!! Creamed spinach & crinkle cut chips - perfect. All beautifully salted. Such friendly, professional & comfortable service with extremely beautiful surroundings. Cotes du Rhone went down a treat, all 3 of us left extremely happy!Thank you 😊

Delayed Christmas lunch with my team today and wow amazing! Great food, fab service and lovely atmosphere. Will be going again as heard the sunday lunch is fab too

Myself and my husband ate here for the first time last night and it was absolutely lovely. We had a 6pm booking and opted to go straight to our table, there’s plenty of room between tables, which is great as you can’t hear anyone else’s conversation and neither can yours be heard. There’s a lovely ambiance and a gorgeous sitting area outside which will be a great place to sit during the warmer months. The menu isn’t extensive but what’s on there is excellent. We both chose the Wagyu steak with sides of tenderstem broccoli and Charlotte potatoes and it was all so delicious, the steak comes medium rare and was perfectly cooked. We finished with a cheeseboard with 3 beautiful cheeses, good portions with figs, grapes and a quince jelly with plenty of crackers. We also had a cocktail each and enjoyed a delicious French sauvingnon Blanc. The service was excellent, it wasn’t a cheap meal but it was worth every penny and this place is very likely to be our special occasion ‘go to’ restaurant.

Fab spot for fine dining at a reasonable price.

Consistently amazing food, service and always great atmosphere. We go here often enough to state that it is probably our favourite overall restaurant, even though we have been coming for years, the food is always consistent in quality. The menu doesn’t change much but it doesn’t matter because it’s so well done. The fillet steaks and halibut are up there as my favourites and occasionally lobster if it’s available. The service is as always impressive and professional but friendly .

I have never had a food experience like this! Myself and my wife dined here as a treat to celebrate our marriage and my birthday. From the moment we arrived the standard of the restuarant staff was different class. We first headed up the stairs to the cocktail bar while we awaited to be shown to our table . When we arrived to our table our bottle of wine and bread for the table was waiting for us. We both had 3 courses and the flavours of each dish was amazing! 5/5 stars! Impeccable service and impeccable food!

Westwood is located in a wing of the grand, old courthouse from the beginning of the 19th century, a 5-minute walk outside the North Bar gate to the medieval town centre, close to my hotel, from which I came on foot. In front of the main portico is a charming, Victorian pissoir, no doubt for the convenience of those nervous souls about to face the judge. You can't really see it at night, and daylight reveals that its entrance is blocked with rubbish. The restaurant wing is at the side of the main building with its own separate entrance beyond the car park, which had no lighting. The short walk from the street in pitch darkness could be extremely hazardous. Having just had foot surgery, I could easily have tripped and fallen--hopefully to be spotted on the ground in time by the headlights of the next car to arrive. I must admit that the food was very good, but the service aspect was deficient. I had ordered some bread (not cheap at £3.50) to have with a glass of wine while I waited in no hurry for the food to arrive. Four mini-baguettes and some farm-cultured butter were brought to me. But before I had the chance to enjoy just two mouthfuls, the starter course was dashed to the table, giving me the unwelcome feeling of being rushed. Also detracting from a relaxing evening was the ghastly music being piped through. This consisted largely of screeching women straining their voices--you simply do not need irritating vocals like this instead of quiet, background music. Again, I liked the food. The starter of whiskey & dark soy sauce smoked salmon was tasty, and my main course of pan-roasted loin of wild venison was excellent. But overall, I felt that, in comparison with the two other Michelin restaurants at which I dined in Beverley, Westwood did not quite deserve its Michelin commendation.

Our whole visit from start to finish was impeccable.The service was second to none and exemplary and the food was out of this world amazing. The decor and ambience is just so relaxing and comfortable. The attention to detail is something we haven’t experienced at any other restaurant in the area or even county. It maybe isn’t somewhere you would go on a weekly basis because it is such a wonderful experience that I wouldn’t want to spoil the “treat” it feels like to go there but it is definitely our “go to” place now for anytime we want to treat ourselves or celebrate. The staff were all so friendly and very very professional. We watched a young lady laying out the table next to us for another set of guests and the precision with which she lined up the place mats, napkins, cutlery and glasses blew us away. It’s so nice to see that the staff care. We couldn’t fault a thing and would recommend the Westwood to anyone wanting to be fed and treat like a king or queen. Yes, it’s more expensive that you would usually pay for a mid week meal, but you don’t mind that at all when you’re paying for such good quality food and the wonderful service and experience that we all had whilst there.

On a first time visit to Beverley, a lovely vibrant town, we found this restaurant online. Great find. The ala carte menu looked tempting but so did the Luncheon table d'hote. 2 courses for approx £25. Delicious food, great relaxed service and a very comfortable restaurant. The food tasted and looked good. We will be back!

We have eaten on several occasions. Spry from the bar and restaurant being cold and my husband’s venison being lukewarm we would recommend.

This is probably one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The setting was lovely, the staff were attentive, the food was delicious and the cocktails tasted amazing. We are excited to come back again soon.

This restaurants quality is consistent - but so is the menu slightly disappointingly, the. Deserts have not changed for about a year. Our only other criticism was that there were no vegetables with some of the main courses and then were when we ordered broccoli found was already on some of the dishes so a bit of disappointing to be misled. Obviously with food prices, they have cut the cloth accordingly and just little things like butter with bread are missing now. Having said that the staff are lovely and the food quality excellent it has not put us off going again..

Excellent dining experience! It was our wedding anniversary and the staff produced a little gift of macaroons for us!
