The best restaurants in York Yorkshire and The Humber

Stopped to break up a journey with my family and was blown away, the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating but most notabley the food was absolutely fantasticly fresh, cooked to perfection and great value. Will make the effort to stop here again next time we pass by.

Después de haber estado aquí muchas veces y disfrutado de la comida pensé en llevar a mi hermana allí para un regalo de cumpleaños. El restaurante estaba ocupado y nos colocamos al lado de la ventana me quité el abrigo, pero hacía mucho frío y me lo puse de nuevo y noté que casi todos en el restaurante tenían sus abrigos de invierno puestos. Le pedí al camarero que encendiera el radiador independiente pero no funcionó. Así que me pidieron que me alejaran de la ventana. Todavía hacía frío. Pedimos medu vada con sambar. Las vadas estaban muy duras con lentejas desagradablemente arenosas que claramente no se habían remojado durante el tiempo suficiente antes de cocinar, el sambar que lo acompañaba era muy bueno. El tiki de salmón era una porción diminuta que había sido cocinada en exceso y la piel incinerada: no era agradable en absoluto. Las masalas dosas eran flácidas y no crujientes. El servicio fue muy lento. En conjunto una noche muy decepcionante y ciertamente no volveré.

Nice atmosphere. Service is good. Food is average to good.

A great old time pub. You don’t find many like this anymore. Good beer, a nice quiet atmosphere. Very enjoyable…

Unfortunately did not have a great experience here due to mistakes that could have been avoided, we booked a table for a work celebration there was about 20 of us, we preordered based off the menu online. I had preordered penne marinara from their online menu, as I am from England I understood that this was just a tomato pasta sauce, and there is nothing on their online menu to suggest marinara is seafood, however I received a penne pasta with tomato sauce and seafood. My sister is allergic to seafood and I don’t eat it to keep her safe. I told them I didn’t order seafood penne, he became angry and shouted at me that I did, I asked to see the menu when he showed me, that’s when we all realised their online menu is different to the one in the restaurant, he brought me a menu to say marinara is seafood, but this is not mentioned on the online menu we used when we preordered, and unfortunately being English and not being Italian, marinara in England is just tomato garlic sauce not seafood like it is in Italy, my fault for not knowing marinara means seafood in Italian but the manager or owner who was serving us just began shouting at me. A female waitress apologised and moved him away from me and brought me just a tomato penne pasta said sorry again and understood what had happened and fixed the issue without an issue, clearly a mistake on both parts. After I’d eaten it the angry manager came over and asked me how my seafood pasta was sarcastically. 3 or 4 of us preordered the online menu tomato garlic bread to start, and one of us ordered a tomato garlic bread for their main. But when it arrived in the restaurant it was a plain garlic pizza bread, as their menu in their restaurant is different to the one online and doesn’t include tomato. Also despite pre ordering two of the starters were missing and had to be chased up 10 mins or so after we had all eaten our starters and the same happened again for our mains, two were missing and a side of chips which we had to chase up. We spent about £582 and just didn’t feel we had a good experience despite pre ordering and we even brought our pre order on a document with us to make sure we were organised when we got there. Food was excellent however and we had a good time. Just a shame to be shouted at in a restaurant by the manager at what clearly was a genuine mistake, as I don’t speak Italian.

Lovely calm and friendly atmosphere, incredible food at a very reasonable price

¡Qué gusto que visitamos! Mi amiga nos recomendó a mí y mi pareja visitarla para el desayuno, ya que nos encanta probar nuevos lugares para el brunch y no nos decepcionó! Entre nosotros habíamos revuelto huevos en tostadas y un rosti (que no hemos comido antes pero estaba delicioso! ) Los huevos revueltos eran tan cremosos y el huevo escalfado era agradable y corrido en el rosti. Hemos reservado directamente de nuevo para cuando mis padres visiten el próximo mes para el desayuno, admitimos que no nos dimos cuenta de que era compatible con perros, sin embargo, será agradable para mis padres para traer a sus perros también. Gracias por una gran visita!

What a fantastic independent venue. The Reuben was good, the coffee great quality and the staff super friendly. Exactly what British business should be.

Yo y un amigo visitamos un viernes a la hora del almuerzo, había un menú de dos platos por £ 9. 90 con un montón de opciones. El servicio era muy bueno y rápido, pedimos bebidas y nuestra comida. Ambos optamos por las costillas de repuesto para empezar que pronto llegaron y estaban sabrosas y calientes. Para la alimentación mi amigo tenía carne de res en frijol negro con arroz frito con huevo y pedí el curry de res con arroz frito con huevo. La comida vino caliente y el camarero trajo un gran recipiente de arroz, todo estaba caliente y sabroso y una porción generosa. Ambos disfrutamos mucho de nuestro almuerzo y recomendaríamos una visita, realmente no había ningún ambiente con que fuera una hora de almuerzo, pero disfrutamos de poder charlar.

We went to Molly's Tearooms for lunch one Saturday. York was packed and it was a bit hard to find because of all the people milling about, but we were glad we made the effort. We decided on jacket potatoes with creamed mushrooms and the lady apologised and said they only had one potato left, but offered us the mushrooms with toast instead. She said the mushrooms came in a separate dish so the toast wouldn’t get soggy. Our meal arrived very quickly and we shared the toast and potato. The mushrooms were absolutely delicious and plenty of them. Very pleasant staff and a lovely little tearoom. We recommended the place to our next-door neighbours who went two days ago and they also thought it was great. We’ll be back!

¡Cómo una simple sonrisa cálida y un delicioso cupcake pueden hacer su día más brillante! Y un café increíble para completarlo. Muy buenas judías allí. Totalmente recomendable.

Nos topamos con este lugar mientras tratábamos de evitar las cafeterías de cadena. Mi marido tenía un pan corto de chocolate y un blanco plano. Solo tomé un café con leche descafeinado pero fue el mejor que probé y se lo hice saber. El servicio era brillante y el personal era amable. Los precios eran razonables. Pensé que la decoración era encantadora y peculiar. Planeamos visitar de nuevo antes del final de nuestro breve descanso.

Victor J's? More like Loser J's! Was waiting for several minutes at the empty bar until being served. On the next round, the cocktails were first completely wrong and when this was pointed out, were made again, but still wrong. The loaded chips were tempting, but after the poor drinks service we were put off ordering food.

Visitamos este restaurante para el almuerzo y las bebidas y disfrutamos tanto que regresamos el último día de nuestra visita a York. Hermoso entorno junto al río y un servicio amable. La ensalada de mozarella con pesto fue un verdadero punto culminante.

Reservamos esto para el regalo de Navidad de mi madre y a pesar de reservar hace un tiempo nos dieron probablemente la peor mesa para una ocasión especial. Una mesa oblonga muy grande con capacidad para 6 personas para nosotros tres al lado de la caja a pesar de que hay muchas mesas redondas vacías más pequeñas. La comida era muy decepcionante, a pesar de su aspecto esquisito y demasiado ambicioso para todos los gustos. ¡Mi madre de 85 años solo podía comerse los bollos! Todo fue bastante extraño y el pan empezó a envejecer.
