Valentino's in York

Superb food, superb staff, superb atmosphere, with a singing waiter thrown in as well. Stayed in York for 3 nights, visited twice, would have been 3 times if not closed that night.

Me estaba quedando en York y lo encontré por casualidad. Era mitad de semana y estaba casi vacío, pero el menú parecía interesante. Un entrante de ensalada caprese era enorme, pero el plato principal era una pasta más casera y estaba delicioso. El personal era muy acogedor y amable y el servicio era eficiente sin prisas.La noche siguiente, un jueves, ante una caminata u otra visita, volví y probé algunos platos diferentes. El costillar de cordero era excelente y exactamente como lo pedí que lo cocinaran.El viernes volví y el restaurante estaba lleno, con un gran ambiente. Aunque estaba lleno, el servicio fue excelente nuevamente. Probé un bife añejo en seco con verduras y, de nuevo, con mucho sabor y cocinado como pedí.He pasado mucho tiempo en Italia durante los últimos años y disfruto de la comida y su actitud hacia la comida. Ya sea que piense que soy poco aventurero o vago, no habría vuelto si me hubiera decepcionado.

Took my wife for a night away in York, so desperately wanted a lovely meal and booked Valentino's in the hope it would deliver, we weren't disappointed amazing experience lovely food friendly staff in a welcoming environment.Thank you to the staff for a lively experience and even better food.

Recomiendo este restaurante a cualquiera que busque una buena comida en York. Asequible y accesible, el personal es muy servicial. Con máscaras, el restaurante es realmente espacioso, por lo que hay mucho espacio para el distanciamiento social. Fui aquí basándome en las críticas de n esto, decepción total, el entrante mozeralla frito era una enorme losa de queso que ha sido recubierto I. Pan rallado pero crudo o incluso derretido en el medio, ¡puaj, acidez en un plato! Creo que el personal también debe retroceder mientras la gente no come nada más molesto que estar cerca, mi esposo disfrutó su pizza, pero definitivamente fue un no para mí.

Fantastic food, the rack of Lamb was beautifully cooked and presented. The Carbonara very tasty and the banter with the staff was fabulous. This restaurant is a must visit when in York.

Pasamos por este restaurante en nuestro camino de regreso al hotel en el que nos estábamos quedando y pensamos que se veía atractivo. Reservamos una comida para esa noche y no nos decepcionó. La decoración es de muy buen gusto y el menú variado. Era un sábado por la noche y estaba muy ocupado, pero nuestro servicio fue muy eficiente y no esperamos mucho para nuestra comida y bebida. Ambos tuvimos el plato de pato, que era una de las especialidades del menú. Estaba delicioso. Estábamos demasiado llenos para el postre, pero tomamos café. No nos sentimos apurados o inseguros debido a Covid durante nuestra comida. De hecho, decidimos volver la última noche de nuestro descanso para otra comida. Los dos tuvimos un plato de pasta esta vez que de nuevo estaba delicioso. Si volvemos a estar en la zona, nos aseguraremos de hacer otra visita a Valantino.

Reservamos Valentino's en las actuales circunstancias restringidas porque tenían una habitación separada en la que podían llevarnos a los 22 la noche anterior a la boda.Obviamente, estábamos nerviosos con los cambios en los consejos del gobierno, pero el personal en el proceso de reserva y organización fue increíblemente servicial y nos facilitó todo. 22 personas, nadie se queja y todos nos fuimos pasándonos un buen rato es probablemente el mejor indicador. El servicio, al estar en un área separada, fue dedicado, nunca se sintió estirado, a pesar de que el restaurante estaba lleno un sábado por la noche.Toda la comida, incluso con el desafío de 22 personas pidiendo al mismo tiempo, era buena, caliente y muy bien hecha. Nos lo pasamos de maravilla y, en general, la relación calidad-precio fue fantástica. No podía y no quería destacar a nadie por un buen servicio, todos los que conocimos y con los que hablamos hicieron que nuestra noche fuera brillante.Si volvemos a York, volveremos aquí y no dudaría en recomendarlo a cualquiera.

Muy poco distanciamiento social, mesas poco espaciadas, servicio lento ya que básicamente tenían overbooking. Decidimos no pedir un entrante ya que nos tomó 45 minutos para que se tomara nuestra orden de comida y luego otros 30 minutos para que llegara la comida. Tenía que seguir pidiendo más bebidas. La comida cuando llegó era muy agradable, pero la noche se arruinó para entonces y no volveremos cuando hay tantos otros restaurantes para elegir en York. Es una pena porque la comida era buena.

the food here was nice. the place is a bit commercialised not ur authentic establishment. the staff are friendly and helpful. the prices reflect the amount spent on the establishment.

We spent a fantastic Thursday night in here. It was that welcoming we went back for more on the Friday,it didn't disapoint. Excellent food, great staff - a laugh a minute. Even remembering our names goes a long way. Recommended.

I recently visited this restaurant twice during a visit to York. The first visit was fantastic. A singing waiter and fabulous food. Huge portions. The second visit was disappointing in so many ways. The salad of 4 days earlier was presented in a way that I spent more time seperating melon from the rind rather than enjoying it as I had before. No atmosphere. The second visit has dragged the overall mark down.

What a fantastic night. This is a great place to come for amazing Italian food. The atmosphere is just right with ambient lighting. All the staff were friendly, happy and made the whole dining experience one we won't forget. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. My party ordered a range of starters and mains, which they all enjoyed. If you're in York, definitely we'll worth a visit.

Went for the first time with my friend whilst visiting York. On arrival was a little uncomfortable with how near some of the tables were and not all staff wearing face masks or wearing them under their noses. COVID practices certainly need improving. Food was average. Very noisy enviroment. Dessert requested tiramasu on display in the dessert cabinet to get plated up half a portion as I can only assume they were running out. I mentioned to the waiter and no comment. Still charge full price. Bill was then presented incorrect which we had to get changed for drinks we didn't have.

Family run place. Great atmosphere, was busy, Italian owner bursting into song spontaneously but unobtrusively merely added to the feeling of being in some bustling trattoria in Italy. And above all, superb and generous food. I had the filetto Rossini, nice big fillet steak perfectly cooked, wife had lobster ravioli which she is still raving about, and after, a superb home made tiramisu. Great for kids, great value - we had 3 courses, plus wine, liqueur coffees, all for £92 - and if you choose pizzas/pastas you can dine even cheaper.

We had a lovely meal in Valentino's but were slightly let down by the slow service - we had to summon attention to ask for drinks and menus, but to be fair the restaurant was very busy. Food was excellent.

Highly disappointing. We booked here for a meal over a bank holiday weekend. Starter was ribs with a tomato sauce. Really a tomato sauce with ribs. Main was a pesto ravioli, undercooked and looked like it was served with bolognaise, partner had tagliatelle which was also undercooked and stuck together. After my starter of ribs I was left with the side dish of bones and the dish for washing my fingers, this was only cleared after my main. Been there for over an hour and not asked if everything was ok, not starters or mains. Would not recommend going there for a meal. Busy yes but god knows it was disappointing, thankfully this isn’t my local Italian. Terrible customer service. Finally asked if everything was ok when paying to which we said so so, nothing else asked.

Atmosphere of the restaurant was great, busy but service was frequent and friendly. Food came quick and portion sizes were large. The food was incredibly tasty, I would definitely recommend the carbonara to anybody! I would 100% return again.

Very friendly staff. The food was fresh and really tasty. Lovely setting for an evening meal. I was with my three young children who opted for the 'half portion' meals which was plenty for them. My children said they'd never been to such a posh restaurant which to be fair they probably haven't. I would highly recommend.

Can't recommend this place enough. Great atmosphere, welcoming staff and lovely food. A good place to take the kids for an early dinner and excellent value for the quality experience.

Ate at Valentono's with my wife on 2nd day after it reopened.Our food was fine, but surproswd that no contact details were taken for us, which I thought was a Track and Trace requirements for restaurants at present, in vase there is a Covid outbreak. Staff had face masks, but most were wearing beneath their noses, which means effectiveness is significantly compromised, and whilst entertaining in normal times, is there not restrictions about singing, given it spreads particles from ones breath. Also, the normal number of tables seemed to be in the restaurant, meaning when people walked to/from their tables they'd pass within a foot of our plates on our table. One last thing, I have noticed that some restaurants have stopped setting tables in advance, so cutlery is not lying on tables for longer than they need to. A bit of a long review, and as I say the food was fine, but thought it worth flagging this feedback. Thanks.

Visited with two teenagers and we had a great night. Fun, friendly staff, loads of menu choice for both food and drinks. Two of us are vegetarian and there was plenty for us too. Everything was tasty and reasonably priced. Loved it!

Had a family meal here last night and the food was excellent. The pizzas were light and baked to perfection. The lasagne was delicious and highly recommend the garlic bread for starter. The portions were great too. A few of us took some pizza home as couldn't finish it all. The host and hostess were so patience and friendly and we're brilliant with the kids. Even when they were changing their minds and being mischievous. Everywhere was super clean and you can see right into the kitchen too and it was spotless. Would deffo recommend to all. We will be back. Great experience all round.

I went there as the hotel we were staying at (across the road!) didn't do gluten free and it was chucking it down and didn't fancy walking into town.Fortune shone upon us!The welcome was great and the host was very attentive to our disabled son and gave us a seat in the corner where he could view the whole restaurant. The food was great, we had lots of attention, but not too much and we left 2 hours later feeling we were special and with full bellies!It was so good that we returned the following evening - all three of us having different meals and they too were excellent. My son enjoyed the food and care he got and we enjoyed our meal as well. By the way, another couple also ate there twice! Would highly recommend this if you like italian food - very authentic. We were there on the 29th February and they even facilitated a lady asking her husband to marry her... we found out on our second night that he said yes! And we say Yes to Valentino's!We will be back!

Just visited York with my son to participate in the Viking Festival. Found this wonderful restaurant just a short walk from our guesthouse. Simply put the meals we enjoyed there on more than one ocassion were simply a trip to Italy in England. Very authentic and delicious. More than that the entire staff and owner made it seem like you were at their home. Great servide, conversation, and yes, singing. If you want a great experience you must spend atleast one night there. Fantastic!!

Visited on Valentines night. Great staff with very warm welcome.The guy serenading guests with the guitar was lovely. Very romantic.It was an excellent meal and we are very picky. But the Carbonara was the best my husband had had in 47 years. So excellent food.

70th birthday party.Came here for my grandma's 70th with a very large group of people. Impressed that it was very well staffed and cared for. Considering the amount of people on a busy Saturday night the food came VERY quickly. Was hot and tasted very good ( previously came and pizza wasn't good but this time was much better) the deep fried breaded mozerella starter was very nice. Lovely staff will come again.

Between the City and the racecourse at York, you will find Valentino’s. On 2 levels, for when they get really busy (especially on race days), this popular Italian restaurant has a good selection on the menu for you to choose from. There is House wine & a fine range of wines to accompany your meal.I would recommend to book a table as this restaurant can get very busy.

Had seafood risotto a a starter which was delicious, and a very generous portion. Followed by homemade tagliatelle equally as good. Also had a wonderful Amarone. Located just outside the city walls on the racecourse road, a great spot well worth a visit

Arrived late on in York and after a few drinks decided to try the Italian over the road from where we stayed. So pleased we did as from walking in the door the staff were so friendly and welcoming despite it being late. I had creamy garlic mushrooms and my wife tried stuffed peppers and we were both impressed by both the flavour and portion size. We both had a medeteranian chicken for main and again this was fantastic. Will definitely return

When in York Valentino,s is a must,this place is buzzing, the food is fantastic and the staff are absolutely brilliant.It was very busy on the weekend we were there but they still managed to fit us in and as we left we were given a panettone which I thought was a lovely gesture,you,ve got to give this place a try

Very much enjoyed the food here. The lamb and mint ravioli was fantastic, but the portion was quite small. My partner had a steak which was a good portion size and very well cooked. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we even got serenaded out of the door!

Recommend by the booklet in our air BnB, very friendly, welcoming and attentive staff, excelled food and nice atmosphere, would definitely recommend a visit here and if we’re back in the York area we’d be sure to visit again.

The restaurant is situated just outsaide the city walls so we were lucky to find it.We were offered complimentary olives and bread on arrival.We had a mozzarella in breadcrumbs to share as a starter,I had an excellent lasagne and my husband had an equally excellent ravioli dish,he also had a dessert of the tiramasu which he loved.Great atmosphere and at a good price..

Went with friends had a brilliant experience, the staff are a credit to Valentino's, so friendly and nothing is too much trouble, everything done with a smile. The food is excellent, all meals were enjoyed, no one had a bad word about the food. Would not hesitate to recommend and this restaurant will always be first choice, a firm favourite.

Excellent Christmas lunch, varied choice of meals all perfectly cooked, together with an ample portion of mixed winter vegetables. Ambience superb with decent wines.

Tried to get a table at Delrio’s, but they were fully booked due to graduation in York that day. Staying at the Hotel du Vin and Valentino’s was just across the road. So glad we decided to eat here. A warm welcome when we arrived and a great menu to choose from. Lovely atmosphere - a lovely young lady served us as well as the waiter who sings - both were so helpful and cheerful. I had the chicken with ricotta and my hubby had steak (which he never usually chooses) and we both really enjoyed. We will definitely visit again when we are in York. Really enjoyed our evening at Valentino’s.

Had a really nice meal when visiting York with my son. The restaurant is a short walk outside the City walls. It is well decorated with a nice warm atmosphere. This is because the staff are so welcoming and happy to serve you. Grazie Mille from Ricardo and Antonio.

I went here on a Saturday night with my family. The restaurant is lively and the staff are very friendly. My 8 year old daughter is coeliac and whilst there is no gluten free menu, staff explained what she could and couldn’t have and most dishes could be adapted. She chose spaghetti bolognaise but unfortunately she was very ill shortly after eating it. We phoned the restaurant and they assured us everything they cooked for her was gluten free so maybe it was cross contamination. A shame as it was a lovely restaurant.

Visited this restaurant after stumbling upon it by accident on a weekend trip to York, it was packed and had to wait for a table but I know why as the food and service were fantastic, all 6 dishes my wife and I had were excellent with amazing service and excellent wine recommendation. I went with my husband for our Wedding Anniversary. Nice, friendly and very prompt service. There is a set menu between 5-7pm Sunday to Friday which is £15 for two courses or £20 for three courses but I’d booked for 7pm not knowing this but will try this on my next visit. Once seated we were brought complimentary bread & mixed olives along with some butter. The bread was fresh and ciabatta style so very nice. I’m not an olive eater but my husband assures me they were good. We shared a garlic pizza bread that was piping hot and delicious. My husband had seafood tagliatelle and I had lasagna, both meals were again really hot and very delicious. I also had a green side salad and again it was totally delicious with avocado in it. We were both offered fresh Parmesan on our mains too. I drank house red which was also really nice (house red can terrible so this is big plus point in my eyes) and my husband drank corona. Our bill was just over £40 which is really reasonable. I really enjoyed my experience dining here and will definitely return.

Situated across from the Ibis hotel we went to Valentinos for our last night in York meal. very well decorated throughout. Excellent selection on the menu. We had Calimari, Parma ham, and fruits, Steak in peppercorn sauce, Chicken with spinach and cheese sauce, Tiramasu, cheesecake with wine and beers. The quality of the food was superb and very good value. The staff were excellent and entertaining.

Food was excellent, freshly prepared full of flavour and served nice and hot. Good choice on the menu and most people will find it hard to decide what to have as I saw several dishes I would happily order.

We found most of the eating places in York to be one of the chains that you find in every city. We were looking for something a little different and found Valentino's almost opposite our hotel.

Ate here with a large group of work colleagues. Restaurant is fantastic - very entertaining service and delicious food with big portions. Would recommend the calzone pizza.

Excellent variety of food, all superb quality. Staff are wonderful and very helpful. We have been going here for some years now since it opened, and will continue to do so.

We tried this restaurant on Friday 11th October and weren't dissapointed. The decor was very stylish but the food,wine and hospitality were even better. The calamari was the best we've ever had and the staff were brilliant especially Francesco! Would love to come back another time.

Food was great, staff friendly, but the acoustics of the place was awful. So if you want good food with little ambience it was great, however if you are looking for a romantic meal for 2 I would look elsewhere or take ear plugs.

Visited on strength of Google Maps reviews. Boy, aren't we pleased we did! The place is very stylish and has a welcoming feel. The food is simply amazing! I can honestly say the best Italian meal I have eaten. Tagliatelle a la marinara was delicious. Would highly recommend a visit.

I cam here as part of a large group. The restaurant felt very crowded for me. I got the menu and asked for a gluten free menu. Instead of getting a gluten free menu, I was told that they could make anything gluten free. I didn't like this idea so I decided to chose food off the menu that I knew wouldn't contain gluten but food that wouldn't be my first choice if I had received a menu. I wouldn't personally return as I believe there are better restaurants in York

On holiday in York checked this place out on trip advisor so glad I did, nice complimentary bread and olives on arrival, I had the best calamari ever hubby had goat's cheese excellent, both had ravioli lobster for hubby, mince lamb for me, the best we have ever had, nice place service excellent can't wait to come back.

Went twice during our trip In July and excellent in all regards. Service in particular was excellent, they even had a wannabe operatic star waiter.

Good food, went back the next night & were not disappointed. Good range of dishes. All meals for our group of four were excellent. Nice environment with an Italian feel.

Visited this restaurant on our weekend in York, recommended by our daughter. A surprise present from our family. The food was excellent and the service was first class. We both had mozzarella in carozza to start followed by lobster ravioli and tagliatelle carbonara and a bottle of Montepulciano. They were all superb. Finished with Affogato. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely go back.

Food was average and the service very poor due to a large party of 23 taking all the waiters time. We felt forgotten and waited for drinks and dessert menu far too long

Visited York for my birthday on 2nd September and stayed in a premier inn just near Valentino’s and decided to give it a try, and so glad we did. Had lovely food with prawns for starter and ravioli for main. Really tasty fresh food with a singing waiter to boot. Reasonably priced too, Would definitely go back.

Being Italian is not always easy to find a truly Italian restaurant in UK. Well....Valentinos has made me change my mind. Authentic food, great staff, reasonable prices.

This place was absolutely wonderful! Food was delicious, home made and cooked to perfection! The pasta is made fresh and is excellent! The most friendly and welcoming staff! Fabulous service even on a packed Saturday night and reasonable prices for somewhere so nice! Singing waiters if you wanted them, or they were happy to leave you alone! Whenever we are back in York we will be returning!

My Wife and I dined here during our stay in York. We pre-booked fortunately as it was very busy. The restaurant atmosphere was great and the waiters were very welcoming, attentive, and entertaining. The food was superb and we will certainly be dining here again when we visit York.

What a lovely place to eat, myself and my partner was up here on a 3day break and staying just across the street from this lovely restaurant. We had a meal on Sunday which was just outstanding in every way so we went back on the Tuesday and again Wow such a outstanding meal.

We had a meal there last Saturday, which we had booked for 13 but on the day only 11 of our party went. We have a wheelchair user in our party so we're shown to a downstairs table within 5 mins & were given menus & ordered our drinks. The meals were very good, enjoyed by all.

Was looking for an Indian restaurant but found this gem just round the corner from where we stayed. 3 of us with our 10 year old daughter, no kids menu as such but they did grilled chicken with chips for her which she loved! We had the deal of 2 courses for £15 and they were excellent! Pity we only found it on the last night but if we return to York we will definitely re-visit!

Called in Valentinos by chance, we were staying at a nearby hotel. Welcomed by smiling waitress and shown to a table even though it was quite busy. We both had lovely meals, tuna and chicken followed by scrumptious desserts. Staff are very friendly and efficient. And even a couple of songs.! A very enjoyable evening.

First of all, the food at Valentino’s is excellent. The steaks, seafood and veggie options are some of the best in York. What makes the place stand out is the staff. The team here are personable, irreverent and genuine. We’ve had four or five excellent meals here now and are well on our way to becoming regulars.

Very warm welcome, first class service, very good menu. Would certainly recommend and should we return to York will definitely be back (also serenaded by waiter, very good voice)

Had dinner here with my partner on a Sunday. I had a pizza which was enjoyable. My partner had a risotto which was delicious. Service was quick and staff were attentive.

We were staying just over the road and having walked all day didn't feel up to going far and it was raining so thought we'd give Valentino's a try. So glad we did, it was amazing. Friendly service and faultless food. Garlic pizza bread so big I only ate a quarter of it. Risotto Tosca was gorgeous. Partner loved his tuna steak too. Would highly recommend!

We booked this restaurant for our Friday night stay in York and we were not disappointed. We were a big table and all our food was delicious and staff were great fun. Highly recommended.

we visited Valentino's on a whim as it was just around the corner from our AirBnB. as we arrived fairly early in the evening, the service was quick and attentive. we ordered the Specials for our main meals followed by dessert. both were very good and if Lamb Shanks (not quite Italian, I know) are ever on the menu again, I do recommend them.

Arrived for my Birthday meal on 06.07.2019, staff were very welcoming. Ordered starters, I had melon with parma ham, OMG the plate was huge but the fruit was very fresh and I really enjoyed it. Service was very quick.

I wrote a review about this fabulous restaurant around a year ago, and just want to add that I'm visiting this place for a long time now and I was never disappointed, always delighted about their excellence. It's truly a great place, fabulous service, excellent food (very well presented as well), and amazing staff. It will take you long before finding such an authentic Italian restaurant outside Italy.

What a place! No unnecessary fussing about with pretend-Italian menus and atmosphere. This is a genuine Italian restaurant where the food is delicious and the staff are genuinely courteous. I've been dining here with my wife for the past three years or so, and have always (every time) been delighted to be here. Alberto and his team are friendly and the kitchen serves the kind of dishes one would pay four times the price in London (or in some places in York for that matter). Well worth the visit!

Third visit since opening, previous 2 times equally Pleh! Though I’d give it another try since I live locally. If you like ostentatious decor, loud music, over friendly staff, a big bill at the end of the evening then this is place for you. But if you like good authentic Italian food then avoid. Food presentation was over the top but the taste well below standard. Clumpy pasta and cold filling. This restaurant is for tourists or race goers who are in town for a short stay and will never return.
