The Marcia in York

We booked a room for my dad's 90th birthday surprise party. We couldn't have picked a better venue. The atmosphere was fabulous, the staff were attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful afternoon, my dad loved it. He was with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends. We wanted to make my dad's birthday memorable and we couldn't have asked for a better service. With an age range from 5 to 90 plus one dog there was something for everyone. The Marcia, its staff and fabulous food made it an afternoon to remember. Highly recommended.

1st visit Called in for tea Card cloned by staff!

Booked on the day for Sunday lunch, they accommodated us. When we arrived there was a couple of big tables already seated. Food took a little while but not overly long, lovely staff. They offer smaller portions here which is always a big bonus for me. I had the pork Sunday dinner, my partner asked for mixed meat, which wasn’t on the menu but again they accommodated for this, he had a mix of lamb, beef, pork. The food itself was a 10/10 our empty plates being evidence. As I had a smaller portion this meant I had room for desert! They offer local Yorvale ice cream, which is delicious, I opted for the trio of cherry, vanilla and chocolate orange, my only gripe was that it was served in a Sunday glass, it would of been nicer in a bowl especially for taste as they ended up all mixed together which spoilt it. Will be going back at some point.

They had a valentine's special menu on both Friday and Saturday, so we decided on the latter.Had a fabulous meal, also they didn't upload the price just for valentine's. Service was excellent, had a really good evening, highly recommend.

It was staffed front of house by a lovely young couple of people. Very efficient and professional. Food average. Atmosphere relaxed, full of locals having a good time

The food was unbelievable! I ordered the Roast Turkey Sunday dinner and my partner ordered the Steak and Ale Pie. The meat was so tender on both, and everything was just to a really high quality. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to enjoy a relaxing Sunday dinner. The selection of beers and drinks was great too. I look forward to returning in the summer to enjoy the beer garden!

We held our Grandmother's wake at The Marcia Inn. The staff were very helpful when making arrangements and attentive on the day, whilst giving us time and space with loved ones. The food was exactly as we ordered. I can't fault the place.

Fab atmosphere on Christmas Eve.

If you’re ever in Bishopthorpe, I highly recommend visiting this charming pub! We had the pleasure of reserving a table, and the whole experience was fantastic. The the pie—absolutely outstanding. The photos don’t do it justice. The staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Plus, it’s great to know that they’re dog-friendly, so our four-legged friend was just as welcome as we were! A perfect spot for a cozy meal with great food, service, and atmosphere. I can’t wait to return!

All other places were busy, with little or no nearby parking, so The Marcia was suggested to us. A very pleasant lunch, very reasonable priced too.

We arranged to hold a Wake for my father at The Marcia, the service, food, atmosphere, staff, were all more than excellent, they made room for the memory boards I'd made and let me pop in to drop them off early. We didn't feel rushed, we had the beautiful spacious room to ourselves, ambient music playing, enough seats for everyone. Food was exceptional and well worth the very reasonable price. The cakes were homemade and beautiful. Thank you to all the staff. It completed dad's send off Beautifully ♡

Nothing very special. Haddock and chips, the fish was dripping in all therefore soggy batter. We were asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu after half an hour of waiting we gave in, when we mentioned it as we paid no apology, just a stroppy remark what do you expect I have other people to serve

Only attended funeral lunches lately but food pub and staff all great.

Family, couple or solo friendly with great customer service. You have choice of indoor or outdoor. Summertime should be exceptionally great for BBQ and play for younger people.

I've visited this pub a lot over the years, the food was very good, but it's very hit and miss now, the last time we had a meal here, it wasn't great, I complained to the waiter who offered no solution whatsoever. In fairness, there isn't anyone actually in charge on an evening, it's just young college kids running the pub. I emailed the owner of the pub who did phone me up to discuss, but when I told him all the issues with our meals, he offered no opinion or apology, in fact he said, pop back in and he would buy me a pint. That was a few months ago. tonight me and my wife popped back in, not for food, just a glass of wine each, the white wine was virtually room temperature, come on Marsia, you can do better than this,

I went to the races for the Ebor meeting and as my pub of choice was closed I tried The Marcia. Over the three days I tried a chicken fillet sandwich on toasted sour dough bread, fish & chips and the meat pie. All three meals were really good. They were good sized portions and well cooked with nice touches like real chips and skinned haddock. I particularly liked that the gravy came in it's own jug. I really dislike a meal swimming in gravy and much prefer to add my own. Prices were fair. Each of them was accompanied by a pint of Leeds Pale, one of two guest beers. It was a nice drink although at £4 per pint it is getting a tad expensive for me. I am a tight Yorkshireman though! The place itself is clean and well kept offering a three sizeable interior rooms and outside seating to the front and back. The staff were all excellent, friendly, helpful and efficient without being fussy. Would I dine and / or drink at The Marcia again. Of course I would, why the heck not! Edit. Google asked me if anything has changed, well no it hasn't everything remains excellent here. Great stuff!

We booked the Marcia for a wake on the recommendation of our funeral directors. We were very pleased with the service received. The food was really nice and there was plenty of it, the function room is well set out and there is a wide variety of drinks available including local real ales and alcohol free beer. There's also a lovely patio area with large umbrellas over each table and a play area and beer garden as well. It was a really nice relaxed environment

First visit to this pub, friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of beers, larger and wines. Lovely old feel to the place and a good-sized beer garden to the rear on the warmer days.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Good choice of quality starters and meat mains. Fresh real vegetables and lashing of good gravy. Space between tables. Good wines and beers. Went for supper last night just as good as lunch above.

I visited the Marcia after a funeral service at the crematorium. The staff were very respectful, the buffet was absolutely delicious and there was a good selection of beers including alcohol free lager. The room was bright, airy and spotlessly clean. I would certainly visit again if I was in the area.

We have been to the Marcia a number of times, including for dinner, and it’s worth the trip. They serve good quality classic English pub food which is well priced. The service is also relatively quick. Also, despite not being a positive subject, in being so close to York Crematorium The Marcia is ideally located for a wake or place to meet up after the ceremony. The staff are so very helpful, the food is of a very good quality and reasonably priced, but also there is a really nice room overlooking the garden where such events are held.

We use The Marcia regularly for club meetings. The drinks are good, the food is good, the staff are lovely & it's clean with a good 'feel' & atmosphere.

Not up to usual standards, steak pie wasn't a steak pie and as for those horrible carrots 😝

Lovely pub on the outskirts of York. Small and tight car park, but on-street parking also available. Three rooms inside and outside seating areas front and back. The beer garden to the rear includes a children's play area as well as a tented seating area which provides shade on very sunny days. The staff are always friendly and cheerful and they serve a good range of drinks, and each one I have tried has been well kept. Myself and my friends have not sampled the food but when we've seen other people eating it has always looked appetising.

We landed, not having booked or warned them, all 19 of us, after a family funeral. We were served quickly and the lady was friendly. Sat outside so as not to crowd out the pub, but it was sunny and a pleasant outdoor area.

Seemed like a lovely pub, couldn't get any food however we they didn't do food on Mondays. Just just not be worth it on Monday. Shame really.

If ever you go to Bishopthorpe, put this on your priority lists to visit, dog friendly, sky TV and food to boot, great staff, nice beer garden and a separate eating room.

The loos were unpleasant and very off putting, over flowing bins, loo paper strewn about. Judge a pub by its loos I say!

Lovely pub in beautiful village, great location. Drink stop, mid walk on a weekend stay. Arrived for 12, so pub was empty but stylish decor + pleasant staff. Great outdoor area, with kids playthings and plenty of tables / space. Didnt see rooms or eat food but had a good vibe about it and would return if in York again.
