Babylon in York

Food was OK. The service personnel was a little bit overly nervous. The lady piled our plates out of the blue and took them away while we were still eating. She did not wait for answer when she came. When we said we are not done yet, she had already piled the plates. She apologised but still, I did not like it at all. No soap in the toilet and somewhat filthy.

Incredible halal food and lovely servers. The owner himself came out to speak to me about my dietary requirements. Highly recommend the chicken gyro- wonderfully fresh and tastes amazing!

Fantastic food here. As I'm gluten intolerant, it's not always easy to find really nice food when out and about. To be able to have gluten-free garlic bread and a lasagne was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend.

Midweek visit for two , early evening. Not busy. Starters: Garlic mushroom and chicken wing starters. Mains: Two Chicken skewers with chips. This is the 3rd time we have visited the Babylon. Fantastic service, excellent meals served hot. Highly recommend this restaurant. 5 stars

Honestly such an amazing Halal restaurant, To start with the waitress(es) where amazing, super polite and friendly. Secoundly the food at the price it's at is amazing and really tastes good. And lastly the restaurant has a good decor and vibe really enjoyed my time with my family there. Table was spotless and so was the lavatory. Really enjoyed my time here, a shame I don't live remotely close to York to visit this restaurant frequently.

10 out of 10. Sam in all 3 years of eating here never fails, from his homemade lasagna calzone and kebabs, on another level. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE🙌🙌

Lovely Restaurant, very comfy chairs, Sara, our server was lovely, the food arrived quickly and it was the best pizza I have had.

Not what we expected based on all of the rave reviews. Very nice host but the food was just ok and it was absolutely freezing in the back because of the wind coming from the steep toilet hallway. And where we sat you could faintly smell the toilets. This was not a 4.8 restaurant. But again, very nice people and it was decorated very nicely.

We found this place by chance to escape from the pouring rain, but we felt so lucky once we ordered! The food was so delicious, the atmosphere was very authentic, the staff were extremely friendly. We ordered Turkish meatballs and pizza- all turned out really amazing. We also had cheesecake- it was so delicious that I only remembered to take its photo when we ate half of it. :) Absolutely will visit again!

Had a short stay in York and was looking for a late evening meal. Did a google search and Babylon Restaurant came up with great reviews. I can understand why, excellent food amazing service (thankyou Zara for your hospitality) and nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be on our visit next time in York.

We came to york all the way from Birmingham to have a little break and see the Christmas markets. By the time we had arrived a lot of the food on Christmas Market were closing so we decided to wonder around and see what we could grab to eat at almost 8pm! Stumbled across this place and must say what an absoutley little gem it is. From the decor creating a cosy atmosphere and the food was just unreal. The price was reasonable and delicious from every bite start to finish. We are food critics and have ate at many Michelin star restaurants and can honestly say this is very tasty food and authentic. The staff were super friendly, very welcoming and engaging. Would highly recommend 👌 this place needs needs more recognition, it really was superb. We would definitely return.

My husband and I travelled to York last week and were absolutely delighted with the delicious food and the level of warmth and service quality in Babylon restaurant so much that we went back the next evening with a larger group of people. They offer Turkish, Greek and Italian meals, we tried some starters, homemade meatballs, chicken gyros and burgers, everybody enjoyed their time there. Zara and the Chef were very friendly, quick and attentive. I would love to enjoy your meals again should we have time to travel to York again. Thank you for your warmth and hospitality!

Brilliant place. A diamond in the forest of gold that is York, which is already full to bursting with neat little places and seems to be a place where small businesses can truly thrive from what I've seen. I wandered by in the mood for pizza and I got a calzone - and oh, what a calzone. Lovely, light, crispy but not remotely burnt crust, and stuffed to the brim with ragu, ham & all the good stuff, drizzled with balsamic glaze. Then some homemade tiramisu, with a pint of Birra Moretti from draught and a JD & coke. (There were some lovely wines on the menu, but I'd already blown loads of cash in the Christmas markets.) It was calm and secluded, with a wonderful late-summer, slightly moodily decorated but warm and cool in a 'Roman Holiday' kind of way. Special thanks to the kind and lovely waitress Zara who was mighty attentive, friendly and talkative. All in all a delight, and highly recommended.

Zara who served us is an excellent host so attentive and kind. The food is incredible I had the chicken gyros and my wife had the mighty meat pizza on a gluten free base. I cannot praise the food enough and the price is incredible value for money. A great find on our little honeymoon and will be going back at the next opportunit (probably tomorrow night in all honesty)

Perfect taste and very kind personel. The owner is from Turkey. We liked pizza and chicken gyro. Size is more than enough! The atmosphere is fine. The only downside side is service fee . I personally do not like having it on my bill as default

An outstanding restaurant. The staff are remarkably friendly and accommodating, and we were made to feel extremely welcome. There is a great variety of interesting dishes spanning all across Europe, so they'll certainly find something on the menu you'll enjoy here. Overall, a great experience that's highly recommended.

Called here for lunch yesterday when wandering around York with the kids. Had a wonderful meal. Gyros were lovely and the kids enjoyed the proper pizza's! The only thing we did not like was the compulsory service charge added onto the bill. This is something that grinds on me. We are always happy to tip if the service is good, but being forced to pay a service charge is not something we are used to.

Lovely place. I visited alone on a quiet Wednesday evening. The place was very welcoming.. The chicken gyros pizza was great, and the size was well worth the price. Brilliant!

Great service, we had burgers and they were fab, lovely atmosphere, excellent all round would come back.

Zara cooked and served us a lovely lunch. The food was great and she was very accommodating in sourcing a highchair and rearranged tables to fit our large buggy.

I went here last week for a birthday meal and it was great! Great service, pretty environment and very friendly staff! We were welcomed and seated pretty much as soon as we walked in and the waiting time for the food was decent! Zara who was serving us was lovely, such a great service! We weren’t waiting too long and the food was also really good. The burger I had was delicious and the fries were good too! I especially loved the little pot of sauce that came with the meal! The meal was also beautifully presented! Very friendly and welcoming place that serves really nice food! Definitely recommend :)

Called in last night, had BBQ chicken pizza and chips, best pizza and chips we've had in a long time. Fantastic service and very dog friendly. Well worth a visit, just wish we had found it when we first arrived on our mini break in York.

Super accommodating. Dog friendly. Child portions available for all items. Made a mocktail which wasn't on the menu. Nothing bad 2 say about it at all. AMAZING

Wouldn't bothering if you just want 'drinks', when she took our order for just drinks she took our menus off us and we was told we had 20 minutes to drink them and leave, it was a outside table even though we was going to sit and order multiple drinks for a catch up and chat, it was no where near closing or opening times, it was 1pm in the afternoon the waitress was moody towards us because we wasn't ordering any food.
