I highly recommend a visit to The Half Moon Inn. The pub offers three cask ales, various lagers—including Beavertown Neck Oil—and hundreds of gins to choose from. The lounge bar provides a comfortable setting with a pleasant ambiance, while the large public bar at the rear features a pool table, darts board, and three large TVs for sports events. The menu includes an excellent selection of food, and there's also a pizza van in the beer garden with takeaway available. The beer garden is a great space for families, equipped with various contraptions for kids to play on, and there's a covered area in case it rains. The pub has a strong community spirit, driven by the management team, Sam and her partner Kenny. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We ordered pizza from Il Mezza Luna - an old horse box in the carpark which has been renovated. A 12 inch pizza is just £10. In addition to the menu there are specials - when we visited there was a bbq pulled pork pizza. We ordered the chorizo and hot honey pizza. It was delicious 😋. We ate it washed down with a Guinness and a glass of wine. There is an extensive attractive beer garden, dogs are welcome and drinks not too expensive. Highly recommend.

Can't fault this place. Quick service, friendly staff. Great food, the sunday lunch is a must if you're passing by that way. We stopped off here after a visit to the flower belt. Nice little peaceful location. There is plenty of parking on site.

Absolutely mint pub, bartenders were canny as owt and were very welcoming and kind. Absolutely love this pub. Will definitely be back. 10/10 hospitality

Fantastic pizzas available We ordered them in the outdoor pizza oven trailer and ate inside the pub.

Great little pub with plenty of outside place, dog friendly in the back bar and in the outside area. Owners made us feel welcome and they have a good selection of beers at a reasonable price.

Had a 10/10 Sunday Lunch today with my husband and little girl. The food really was delicious, great quality and portion! The front of house team were all super friendly and our waiter Charlie was polite, attentive and a real grafter! Will be highly recommending to friends and will look at returning soon. Many thanks!

Not tried the food yet but all looks great. Excellent staff, great beer. Front lounge is nicely done. Rear bar (like a sports bar) also great. Very nice.

They serve an absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch, great portion size! Lovely village location, little enclosed play park at the back was a hit with my 3yo. The inside of the pub has a really great traditional pub vibe & the staff were very friendly

As a family, we’ve always lived in and around Strensall and known the Half Moon Inn. It’s always been one of the local pubs but has always had a reputation for being a little “rougher” than the pub next door. It was taken over by a new landlady whose name I believe is Sam, and since then, it has been wonderful. We’ve been in for food a couple times, once on a weekday a couple of months ago, as a family of 6 where we all had different meals (all huge portions and gorgeous home cooked food) and today as a couple for a Sunday dinner. The food is absolutely faultless. Amazing quality meat, all the trimmings you’d expect (and more) and incredible service. I’m so glad that this place has been turned around and made into a lovely county pub serving great food and excellent drinks with a lovely warm atmosphere. Absolutely what the village needed.

Wow !!! Excellent food served for Sunday lunch in our very friendly local pub , staff welcome you with a smile the atmosphere is as it should be the sound of happy diners chatting and enjoying their lunches , I had the beef and it melted in the mouth accompanied by crispy roast pots and creamy mash ,really yummy cauliflower cheese and mixed veggies not forgetting the unlimited yes I did say unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy !!!! Highly recommend this gem book advisable to book .. you will not be disappointed 😊

Lovely village pub with basic but excellent quality food. Great choice of beers and the wines are reasonably priced. Football was showing on 2 screens on the night we visited. Staff were quick at cleaning tables and ensuring quick turnaround for food. Also set expectations as to how busy it was and apologised that the food would be a while due to the sheer volume of sqauddies that were in from the local barracks. Even with many young lads in, it was still a pleasant night and not too loud.

Gutted they have changed menu, was so looking forward to the fajitas😥 but to be fare i had the chicken strips, they were good, sorry they don't compare... Still worth a visit.

The Half Moon, as well as being a great place for an evening out, serves great coffee and cakes during the day. The lounge bar is a good venue for a meeting.

The Half Moon hosted a funeral wake for us. Staff were friendly and helpful and the buffet was very good and very reasonably priced. We had the big front room set aside for our family and friends. Nice location and easy access from Mowthorpe Burial Ground. Recommended.

Only popped in for a drink after my son mentioned it. A good atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, pleasant staff. A TV in a separate room which meant those eating or just drinking didn't have to suffer the TV.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Small menu of Roast Beef, Gammon or Vegetarian option. Quick service and the food was excellent. We all had the Roast Beef and there was lots of it and it practically melted in my mouth. Good size Yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetables. At only 14.95 per person I'll be going again soon.

We have been here a few times for Sunday lunch after moving to Strensall. Also been for midweek meals and snacks and drinks on a Friday. We have definitely found our new local. Sam and the staff make such an effort to make you feel welcome and the food and drinks we could never complain about. We come here regularly now and the staff are still the same with us as the first day we went it. If you are about the area we would definitely recommend. Thank you Sam and the team you are doing an amazing job. ❤️

Went for Sunday Lunch 7 of us and all I can say is it won't be the last it was fantastic and if you haven't been give then a ring and book you will not be disappointed. Can not wait to go again!!

Visiting my daughter in York, so we went to the Half Moon for Sunday dinner- I must say it was delicious and one of the nicest I've had! All fresh, and homemade yorkshire puddings too. Staff are very friendly, would highly recommend and I will definitely be visiting again 🙂

Booked Lunch for Sunday for two . We were not disappointed. It was busy ,staff were lovely . Ordered their Sunday lunch offer of Roast of Beef ,but could have had Gammon,or veg option, big plate of succulent Beef,large Yorkshires and excellent mixed veg dish . All served hot and very tasty . Extra Yorkshire available if needed . A pint of John Smiths helped to top the day . Will definitely visit again . Thank you Half Moon .

A fantastic pub run by a lovely landlady. We were over in Strensall for two weeks and were regular users of the Half Moon. The staff couldn't do enough for you. The food was fantastic with a great choice of beers. There was plenty of seating and a lovely atmosphere. All of the locals were very welcoming.

Booked for Sunday dinner today. Despite some of the party ‘not liking’ roast dinners and others only wanting chicken-the plates were cleared! Choice of beef, gammon or veg option of spicy sweet potato roulade. Both the beef and gammon were delicious and served with a mountain of veg including a gorgeous cauliflower cheese as well as both roast and new potatoes. Unlimited Yorkshires (home cooked) which went down a treat with those not keen on vegetables. We squeezed in some deserts and had a couple of lovely glasses of Malbec and Moretti to wash it down. Just needed a lie down after-don’t plan on any other activities! Really enjoyed it and would definitely return - thank you 😊

I've just had the most epic Sunday Roast North of the M25 (and it comes with unlimited Yorkshire Puddings!) A generous portion of meat was accompanied by oozing cauliflower cheese, sensational vegetables, fluffy roast potatoes, and lashings of gravy. Simply perfect......😋

Went for Sunday lunch had the roast beef which was absolutely melt in your mouth tender the roast potatoes were done to perfection too. Staff as always were friendly and helpful. Everything was reasonably priced and they always have a couple if nice guest ales on tap

Came with friends from camp for a Sunday roast and we were more than happy with the quality, price of drinks and watching the football. I've been in solo a few times and always feel welcomed at this establishment and their lovely staff. Atmosphere is great on sport days in the back. Definitely will be back for more food/drink/football with my mates. Thanking the Half moon team for a great service ^^

Had a fantastic early evening meal with friend and her daughter , it was a an American themed burger event and the food was top notch , very tasty , plenty of it and good value for money , pub was friendly , clean and staff very polite helpful and attentive . It’s definitely worth a visit I recommend you call and book as it is very popular .

We booked a table for the lunch of the Sunday dinner. It did not disappoint! Great friendly service, food was cooked to perfection and a great atmosphere. Could not fault the portion size for both kids and adult meals. Definitely value for money. Looking forward to the next one!!!

First Sunday doing lunches so as a birthday treat was treated to meal with my family. It was a fantastic meal , hot and with fantastic choice of vegetables. Congratulations to chef and all at the Half Moon . My children and grandchildren loved the limitless Yorkshire pudding on offer. Well done

Lively village pub. Real ales chilled too cold for me, try The Ship Inn just down the road for a spot on pint they won't let you down.

Outstanding pub,well run and very accommodating for all visitors-local or not. Great beer selection. Free Pool table and various tvs for all sports BT and Sky. Large beer garden and the landlady even provides a small football pitch for kids to play which is actually her own personal piece of land. The landlady is delivering for the whole village as she provides a first class local community facility. Long live the moon!

Wow Kate you must have been having a really bad day !! I have moved to this end of the village and starting drinking in The Moon . The staff are brilliant and the landlady is probably the nicest I've experienced in 38 years of drinking . The beer is spot on and at a great price . Every local I've talked to are very welcoming.

This is one of the worst pubs I've ever been in. The so called land lady ( don't make me laugh) has no people skills at all. thats why half of the staff have moved out. She also lies all the time ! ! ! And don't forget her body odure. Gice this dump guys a massive miss you won't be sorry.

The Half Moon Inn at strensall is definitely on my list to return. Very nicely refurbished and the beers are very good and served at the correct temperatures by the friendly landlady. Good parking space at the rear and a big beer garden. Well worth a look and visit - try the Sea Fury beer for a great pint

Would give zero stars if I could. The staff are clearly mates with many of the regulars, probably grew up together. No professionalism. Very rough and depressing pub. We left very quickly. Edit - landlord can't take criticism which is no surprise. Perhaps they'll consider maturing at some point but highly unlikely. Would rather hang out with their 'mates' than have a decent pub which attracts decent people.

Came for fudge cake and hot chocolate . The fudge cake was massive and so yummy.

Come to this pub regularly, can never fault the staff. Landlady is brilliant, along with the rest of the staff, always a warm welcome and can never fault the service, atmosphere is great and free pool! Will always be my favourite pub! Definitely recommend!
