Source in York

Source saved an almost ruined birthday. We visited York for my birthday and the hotel we were staying at really messed up and there was nowhere local to eat! We had to make last minute plans on a Saturday night so we were so worried. We rang up Source and asked if we could squeeze in and they were so attentive and got us booked in. On arrival they made sure the seating was ok for us and it was such a lovely atmopshere, and the food was amazing. It was so good that we returned in the morning for breakfast!

A friend and I had been meaning to go here for ages but finally made it, what a fantastic little restaurant! The food was delicious, I had the "salmon" tofu with quinoa salad and these amazing roasted chickpeas, and she had marinated mushrooms on a salad bed with hummus and delicious flat bread. The service was great too, attentive but not pushy, and we felt very relaxed.

Stopped by on my birthday after dinner plans fell through. It was our second time visiting and again there was a lovely atmosphere, the employees were friendly and the food was amazing! I had the VFC Satay to start and the No Lobster & Mac for my main, and it is the best mac n cheese I’ve ever had in a restaurant - so flavourful and with a perfect creamy sauce! My partner had the Vish and Chips which was also very nice. We had briefly mentioned that it was my birthday when we arrived, but the manager had remembered and brought me out a free dessert which was just the cherry on top of a great experience. Can’t praise Source enough, it is exactly the kind of vegan place that everyone can enjoy and a real gem in York.

Fabulous restaurant. Lovely staff, beautiful decor and great food. Menu is really good and our highlights were the Faux Gras, the Banana Blossom Vish and Chips and the loaded nachos. One of the best vegan restaurants we've been to.

Visited for lunch with my friend who is vegan. I am a meat-eater. We had fortunately booked ahead of time as the restaurant was busy. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very relaxed and warm. There was no rush to order or finish our meal. The lunch menu is varied. As a meat-eater it took a bit of effort to understand what everything was. For my friend it was amazing to have the pick of the whole menu instead of one boring thing to choose. Service was very efficient. The food was really attractively presented. On the whole mine was ok but not something I would actively choose again. It’s my palate that’s at fault though, not the chef/restaurant. My friend loved hers. It’s always good to try new things!

Visited on a busy Sunday without booking (my bad) but taken to a lovely table straight away. Staff are so friendly and helpful, food is absolutely banging. I don't have any photos because I dove in immediately. We just got a bunch of sides to share between 3 of us and the loaded VFC bites changed my life. Frickles went down an absolute treat too. Left comfortable full and eager to return as soon as I can!!

Delicious food, freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We started with the vegetable gyozas and faux gras - amazing! - and our mains were banana blossom vish and chips and mushroom shwarma - both so filling and tasty.

Absolutely superb vegan food, creatively designed by chefs that clearly understand plant based eating. Calamari was outstanding as was fish and chips, burgers and other few dishes. We ate there three times during our two nights stay as it took the guesswork out in other restaurants and the food was simply delicious. On Thursday we paid for main dishes £10 which definitely saved money as the place we found on a pricy side. Thoroughly recommend for vegans and vegan curious.

Being vegetarians (but not vegans), we welcomed finding a menu where we didn’t have to pick our way through to find the non-meat items. The choice was good, and the atmosphere relaxing, with efficient friendly service. I’m not convinced that vegetarians and vegans need to offer fake meat items: vegetarian/vegan food should be welcomed in its own right. I ordered “Vish and Chips”, which were quite good, but I still much prefer battered halloumi to the tofu that was meant to fake the fish. But it was a pleasant dining experience, and well worth a visit.

First visit this morning as vegans on a mini break in York. Had two full English breakfasts which were superb! Staff were great and a lovely cozy place to eat, we will be returning for an evening meal as the menu looks great!

Nice cosy restaurant in the centre of York. Service was excellent. Loved the menu. No smoked Salmon scramble & chickpea omelette were delicious.

I’d been wanting to visit Source for ages after seeing their food on Instagram and I finally did with some friends. The staff were reasonably friendly, if not a little disinterested, but the food was out of this world. Bit disappointed that they didn’t have any poke bowls on the menu at the time but the crab cakes were amazing. I will definitely be back.
