I just wanted somewhere to sit, have a cup of tea and read my book while my husband ran the York marathon on a Sunday morning and I'm so glad I found Victor Js what a treasure! Friendly welcoming staff, cosy place and I ended up having an early lunch jacket potato - delicious. Thank you and the cocktail menu looked fab so I hope to be back one evening!

Been searching for a decent breakfast place and this is the standout best. No nonsense just traditional full English. Very nice!

Very rude staff, one gent in particular (might be the owner). Didn't seem interested in our business despite it being pretty empty on a hot and busy day in York. Wouldn't recommend coming here, better places for atmosphere elsewhere. Edit - not sure what the owner is referring to about food as we ordered food from them which was undercooked and took ages for them to serve, despite our feedback, the gent serving us seemed to cop an attitude. A bit naive for a company to assume identities of their customers, but unsurprising if other customers have had rude experiences too judging by the reviews before me.

Food was lovely and the drinks were nice. They do mocktails too which is great if one of you is driving. The service is fast and efficient.

We liked the board games and the good atmosphere of the place, as well as the beer.

A pleasant enough experience in a small pub. Mainly standard range of beers (Mahou etc.) And there's some different beers in cans in the fridge. I didn't try any so can't comment. Didn't try the food either.

Lovely quiet bar tucked away in the Snicket's of York. Brilliant place to have a drink and lunch especially when the other places are busy and full of screaming kids and miserable parents. If you prefer the quieter places like I do you'll love it. The food menu is fair for a bar, All day breakfasts and lunch items like sandwiches and wraps are available all of which are delicious. I think prices are fair for the quality of food and overall experience.

Excellent spot, tucked away in a corner. Easy to overlook which means it doesn't get too busy. Excellent food and service, staff expertly adjusted the volume to suit the number of people. Healthy stock of small card and board games on a shelf

The bar man was rude and talking down to the female staff on shift. Cocktails cannot be classed as good cocktails, did not have gin glasses for the large gin selection.

Had such a nice time, walked by and decided to go inside and I’m so glad we did! Bar staff super friendly, really nice chill vibes. Cocktails were really good value for money, 2 for £10 during happy hour.. Music top tier and they have board games !!! Will deffo make this a new regular visit :)

Lovely staff, and good food and drink!

It was very busy upon arrival and we had to sit upstairs which was considerably colder than downstairs. Ordered food and after 15 minutes it arrived. VJs burger and vegan falafel burger were really nice, best burgers we've had in a long time. Homemade chips were lovely too. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, I was with a large party and there was plenty of seating, good selection of drinks. Bar staff friendly and efficient.

Cool little bar that's nice for a quiet drink or coffee. Didn't eat here so can't comment. It would have nice if the coffees had been brought to the table though, so I didn't run the risk of spilling them, lol. Plenty of comfy chairs and sofas to relax on.

Disinterested staff (especially the doorman) Served 2 cocktails that had no thought, effort or decent ingredients in them. Disappointing 😞

Visiting York for a few days and popped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for the pub quiz. Won the quiz (somehow), nice place for a drink with a great atmosphere!

Right little find this place is. There are so many bars in York, this is a must visit. Nice staff, great music, 2-4-1 cocktails. Board games as well. Gem of a place.

Really liked the quirkiness of this bar. Interesting decor and secluded seating. Pleasant atmosphere.

Very welcoming to us and our dog. Food was nice too, especially the Yorkshire pudding wrap.

Went for a 40th upstairs, which has it's own little bar. But on these occasions the toilets upstairs are shared by the whole pub, and none of the four cubicles across the men's and women's have locks on the doors, and the space upstairs isn't big either. Downstairs is also cramped on a busy night too, and they end all food at 5pm. Friendly enough staff. They could do without the roaming security in such a small place.

You need to visit this bar, the atmosphere is so relaxed and the bar staff are so helpful and friendly! There are a couple of shelves opposite the bar that are full of board games et that you can take to your table and play whilst having a drink. We had great fun playing Buckaroo (which i havent played in years 😁) and Jenga. Many other tables were doing this too and laughter was heard coming from many table! Definetly put this on your list to visit!

Visited here a couple of days ago for a quick break while Christmas shopping. Such a great bar! Super friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

Lively bar with great deals on cocktails! Popular with all ages and a quiz night on Mondays. A selection of "premium" cocktails for around £8-£9 each and deals on "classic" cocktails 2 for £10 (2 of the same cocktail). We got French Martini and White Russians and they were excellent! Cocktails aside, the bar also has a good range of draught beers and bottles and reasonably priced. Quirky decor and artwork. A little on the small side so might be tight during busy weekends but they make good use of the space they have.

DO NOT GO HERE for food if you have allergies or intolerances as they say can not / will not serve you! I was absolutely disgusted to be turned away and told by the chef that they can not / will serve me due to my dairy allergy and that this is due to a recent change in the law. The staff were rude and far from helpful. I did however have an amazing meal at a restaurant just opposite this bar who served me without problem. A message to the owner - please do not continue to discriminate against people with allergies. Allergies can not be helped. You embarrassed me and made me feel so uncomfortable I front of others. Your menu says to ask a staff member with regards to allergies however it maybe needs to say ‘won’t serve people with allergies’ You need to either look at your menu choices or at your kitchen / staff to improve on this in the future. Other good establishments can do it so why can’t you!

My favourite bar in the whole of York! Tucked away in a quiet little snicket just next to the Roman baths, this little bar has the biggest personality. The staff (in particular Ed and Nicole) are really the driving force of such a vibrant and warm personality this bar holds. The laid back atmosphere is so inviting and you leave feeling like you’ve been in the company of friends for the evening.

nipped in for drinks with my sisters after deciding to sample some cocktails, 2 for a tenner from list... turns out it's only £10 if its 2 the same cocktail ... don't say that on list so was a few quid extra. no a problem but should make it clearer.. i'm a pint or a whisky type dude so i'm no expert on cocktails but my sisters were no impressed.. especially served in coke tumblers..

Such an amazing little hidden gem! Gorgeous cocktails and super friendly staff! Knowledgeable team who were able to recommend some great cocktail options! Great 2-4-1 deals aswell 👏 Decor is lovely, really focuses on Yorks heritage and it's "snickets" for those up North you will know what that means! Music is great Amazing! Amazing time and we will for sure be back again, if not just for the cocktails but to see Ed and Nicole!! Great team, smashing bar, delicious cocktails! What more do you need?

Seemed alright when we went in. However, our drinks were forgotten for a while and the wait for food was absolutely ridiculous. Roughly an hour wait!! Once it had arrived, the server immediately blamed the fact there was a new chef. Our food didn’t come with everything it stated it would on the menu. No coleslaw or sauce in the burgers. The cheeseburger couldn’t even pass for a cheeseburger as there was little to no cheese and about half a head of lettuce inside it. The burger patties were tasteless. There was no flavour to them at all. Extremely dry as well. Absolutely the worst experience I have had in a restaurant in a very long time.

Popped in for a drink in the evening before we went for a meal. Service was quick and easy. The places is decorated nicely and is cosy. They made a delicious White Russian.

We saw outside that they were offering 2 for £10 cocktails. Unfortunately the cocktails were a bit weak for what I normally get. Really nice staff and cool decor

Nice little bar tucked away, with a decent drinks selection and nicely themed. I’m not sure of her name but the girl who served us was very nice. I think they try to keep a good crowd inside as the bouncer was being quite selective with who he’d let in! Fair enough, keeps things simple.

Unbelievable bar! I had a great meal here with the steak wrap, and excellent service from great staff! Nowhere better to go for a drink with friends! Proper hidden gem in York!
