We went to Molly's Tearooms for lunch one Saturday. York was packed and it was a bit hard to find because of all the people milling about, but we were glad we made the effort. We decided on jacket potatoes with creamed mushrooms and the lady apologised and said they only had one potato left, but offered us the mushrooms with toast instead. She said the mushrooms came in a separate dish so the toast wouldn’t get soggy. Our meal arrived very quickly and we shared the toast and potato. The mushrooms were absolutely delicious and plenty of them. Very pleasant staff and a lovely little tearoom. We recommended the place to our next-door neighbours who went two days ago and they also thought it was great. We’ll be back!

Went to molly's for afternoon tea for about half one, and my god what a treat. We got a really nice welcome and shown to our table. One of the ladies came out to ask us for any allergies or dislikes in flavours. The staff are really pleasant and nice to talk with, the afternoon tea when it came out was an eye opener.Nicely placed on each tier but my god the cakes are all home made and the slices they are not shy with, which meant we ended up taken them away with us. We are making plans for another visit again already.

We bought a chocolate fudge cake and a Victoria sponge cake from here, which were hands down the worst cakes me and my partner have ever eaten! The fudge cake had an unusual flavour in the sponge which made it taste like floral perfume. Gross. The Victoria sponge was the worst. We kept the cake in the fridge as it had butter cream in it and chose to eat it the day after we bought it. Well I think it was buttercream as I’m not entirely sure, whatever the filling was, it was off. It smelt like cheesy feet and vomit and tasted just as bad. I’m assuming it was off but due to the disgusting flavour of the Fudge cake it could have been a filling that they tried to pull off which failed miserably. I’m appalled that they sold me and my partner these cakes which one was clearly on the turn. Avoid this place for cakes if you want to keep your tastebuds.

Visted York last weekend (08.08.2020) and happened to come across this lovely little tea room. A lady called Jan greeted us outside who was so polite and friendly. My other half didnt have a face mask so was unsure we could enter as the tea room is upstairs, above an antique shop but she was so helpful and even gave him one to use for our visit. there was three of us visiting, I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans, my other half had a toastie and his mum had a jacket potato with creamy mushrooms, they were to die for! So happy with our experience, the ladies did a fab job

We called into this cafe on a recent visit to York. There were plenty of tables available so 6 of us sat down and ordered food and drinks. After a few minutes I asked where the loo was to be told it wasn’t open yet (due to Covid restrictions presumably). We should have been told this BEFORE we sat down and ordered food and drink. Who wants to find that the cafe they are dining in has no toilet facility? Unimpressed we felt we had no option but to continue with our dining experience. The food we ordered was very good, I had creamy mushrooms on toast, they were the best ever. As good as the food was it was spoilt by the unfriendly waitress and lack of facilities and they weren’t included in the help out to eat out promotion. When I politely suggested when I paid that there should be a sign saying there were no toilet facilities the waitress told me the toilets belonged to the antiques shop and were nothing to do with the cafe. Shame about the attitude and lack of facilities because the food was great.

¡Definitivamente vamos a volver!

After looking online for a nice afternoon tea in York we found this tearoom. I don’t like going to the big fancy places for afternoon tea as I often find them over priced with tiny portions. The tearoom is above an antique shop you wouldn’t know it was there really. The afternoon tea for 2 was £29.95 and you got a selection of sandwiches (ham, cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese) with onion chutney and crisps on the side. We both had a latte to drink. 2 large scones with jam and fresh cream and we got 4 slices of cake between us which we chose ourselves. The sandwiches where lovely. The Fruit scones where huge!!! And we actually had more than enough clotted cream to cover them, we always find that you have to scrimp in your cream because there is never enough in most places. After we had finished our sandwiches and scones we couldn’t even manage the cake selection so instead this was wrapped up to take home. The food was lovely and service was excellent. I would definitely encourage people to come here for afternoon tea rather than the more famous tearooms. Proper homemade food and cakes. Delicious!!!

We have been coming to Mollys Tearooms for the last 10 years & I don’t know if they have changed hands but certainly wasn’t the same place we have always visited. We were greeted with a hi sit where you want. The table we chose had not been cleaned & looking around the floor under the tables were not clean. Our drinks came out promptly although one went back as it was the totally wrong drink. The food took a long time to arrive & looking into the kitchen the lady who was cooking had long hair in a pony tail which was not covered up & seemed quite unhygienic. By the time the food cane we had not much of the drinks left so would have been nice to have been refilled. We were never asked during eating if everything was ok. York has such a huge variety of eateries & I am sad to say after 10 years it was not the same place.

Entering through the tardis like antique shop (which is well worth investigating as well) you get a pleasant cafe style tea room, not old and quaint but modern. The girl running front of house was lovely and friendly but seemed to need more help, as commented on previous reviews. Food was well portioned but lacked little flair or presentation of some tea rooms we have visited. Tucked away within an antiques shop which covered about three floors Mollys is a lovely little find. It is not easy to locate at first glance and was pointed out to us by a happy young man giving out leaflets who was doing an excellent job. It's a shame that there isn't something more obvious to point you to it. They look as though they have regulars though so word of mouth in this case will hopefully help their customer base. However there were no baby changing facilities, to be honest the toilets were not large enough and you can sneak into The Olde Starre Inne across the street. The accessibility isn't great, but luckily since having our son I've developed muscles so my husband carried our son and I carried the pushchair full of bags up and down the stairs. Still worth it. It was packed with finger sarnies, tastey homemade onion chutney in side dish, and apart from huge fruity homemade scones somehow we ended up with choosing which slices cakes we preferred! We had to bring cake home as it was too much! This family friendly tea shop is superb old fashioned and amazing value and yes it is really home made. Mum and I visit Mollys every time we visit York which is usually once per month. This is the first time I have written a review for these tea rooms and decided I really should as it is such a lovely place to eat. The staff remember us now and couldn't be friendlier, they always have a smile for us and seem pleased to see us. The food is always spot on, we've tried lots of different things including panini, jacket potatoes and soup, always followed by a cake and we are never disappointed. The food and service and food are consistently excellent! We will be back

We stumbled upon this place quite by chance and can thoroughly recommend its retro 50s decor and character. Surrounded by old style toys, tin models, lead soldiers, vintage gas lamps, brass door furniture, wireless sets, and bric a brac, all for sale, the atmosphere was complimented by the pretty china settings. The menu was good honest lunch fare, with great attention to gluten free preferences. My husband had the all day breakfast whilst I had a panini. We didn't have any cake but I did rather drool over the extensive selection. Service with a smile, well worth a visit, and reasonably priced too.

Lovely little tearooms tucked away behind the antiques, there is a flight of stairs to climb. Really busy place, we had a discount offer given out on the day. Very pleasant staff who serv you at the table. Gluten free option available, would return and recommend a visit.

Easily overlooked due to its narrow frontage, Molly's is well worth a visit. The selection of cakes and chilled desserts was admirable and staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. We didn't have a meal but what we saw looked very appetising and prices were more favourable than some similar tea rooms. An excellent find!

Had read reviews on Mollys and were determined to find the tearooms as they offered an extensive gluten free menu. However it is quite difficult to find as it is tucked away in an antique shop. Luckily there was a man in the street handing out discount cards for the tearooms as we approached it. We were met with a really cheerful waitress. She was very obliging. Being gluten free they had a wide range of cakes and sandwiches which I could choose from. They normally provide an afternoon tea for two people but actually prepared one especially for my husband. The food was very fresh and tasty. There was too much cake in the afternoon tea but they packed us up the remainder to take away. Reasonably priced as under £20 for both of us. Great little find and we will be returning.

We went in here after receiving a 10% off voucher from a lady as we were passing in the street, we wanted to avoid the big chain establishments and go for something more home cooked. We ordered jacket potatoes which were cooked to perfection, the creamed mushrooms were delicious as was the homemade quiche of the day (mediterranean vegetables and cheese), salad was fresh, only thing I would comment upon is that I would have preferred my water to have been chilled, however soft drinks were chilled so I could have opted for one of them if I wanted a really cold drink, overall a lovely place with very attentive polite staff, nothing was too much trouble. Would return if visiting York again

Had scones and a comforting cup of mocha. Scones paired with clotted cream and jam were brilliant. Would visit again if at York.

My parents visited last week with some friends they haven't seen in ages. My dad is coeliac so eating out can be a challenge sometimes. The food was very good as was the lovely China cups the tea came in complete with mini milk jug. Dad had jacket potatoe which was perfect followed by lemon drizzle cake (all gluten free). They would recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a nice afternoon out.

The first time I went here I was looking for a light bite but they had stopped serving food (this was around 3pm) so I went elsewhere. The next time I went I was looking for a piece of cake and I was not disappointed. The lovely homemade cakes my party had were really enjoyable and there was plenty of choice. The staff were really friendly both times I went and it was just unlucky that I went in too late the first time for a more substantial plate. The staff were also great with a party of twenty who wished to eat in the small café and I was very impressed.

We were handed a flyer for Molly's Tearooms when we were walking around the Shambles during a hen party weekend in York. One of our party is gluten and dairy intolerant and the flyer mentioned gluten-free menu options. The staff were really helpful and ran through the recipes to make sure that everything was truly Free From - nothing was too much trouble.

A lovely tearoom in an antique centre which is brilliant to browse. Home made food which is delicious. The lentil soup was just like my mother used to make! Afternoon tea for two at £24.95 was amazing with loads to eat. Staff were really nice and very helpful. Would definitely go back.

We only went in as the lady was handing out 10% discount cards outside. So glad we did, nothing was too much trouble, reasonably priced, good portion sizes and the cake was scummy. Would definitely recommend.

We passed on Betty's Tea Room because of the long line. As we were walking down the street, a young lady offered us a flyer for 10% off Molly's Tea Room. We decided to give it a try and walked into the antiques shop and up the stairs. We had quiche, jacket potato, and salad. The quiche was delicious and full of vegetables. The jacket potato was hot and delicious. We had a Cloudy Lemonade, which is carbonated. It was very cold, and we even had ice in our glasses. We were too full to have any of the sweets, but they looked delicious. Service was quick and friendly. It is a small world because our waitress went to Lander University which is near to our home in Greenville, SC.

We had seen the queue for Betty's and decided against getting in it and standing in the pouring rain. So we headed up the Shambles and were flagged down by a lady inviting us to her tea rooms, with tables immediately available and offering 10% discount! Perfect. The tea room was lovely, as were the staff. We all chose one of their lunch offers - a freshly made sandwich (served with salad and crisps - a plate full!) with hot drink and slick of cake - £8.95 each minus the discount. It was all delicious and we thought very good value in the middle of York. The antique trinkets were nice to look around too. Would definitely return.

Went with a friend. Cafe is small but clean and tidy. Limited range of food. They need a proper coffee machine (my capacchino was very bitter). Friendly staff.

Charlotte made my son's 21st vegas inspired birthday cake along with cupcakes. I can not express enough how accommodating and very talented Charlotte is! The cake most definitely had the wow factor with numerous comments from everyone. Charlotte even made gluten free cupcakes for me as she knows I'm coeliac . Aswell as looking amazing the cake tasted divine! Thank you so much Charlotte x
