It was my first visit and I was not disappointed. I loved all the restaurants, cafes and shops. It was market day while we were there but as it had snowed, only a few stalls came. We certainly got friendly service from the stall holders though. I shall go back for another visit soon, but book everything in advance, especially the restaurants, which get very busy.

Prepared in front of us. Lovely friendly owners. Great tasting fish and chips, still piping hot after a 5 min drive home. Thank you!!

Booked an evening meal which was very nice, couldn’t fault the food at all but the service was close to non existent. Extremely slow and inattentive waiting staff really ruined our visit. None of the wait staff seemed motivated or interested, except for a keen interest in cleaning tables but that keenness sadly lacked when it came to taking orders and fetching the bill. When we did eventually flag the wait staff down to order dessert, we were told the Crème Brûlée was sold out. If the dessert menu wasn’t so limited in choice this wouldn’t have been an issue but choice was very limited which left us making the decision to go elsewhere for dessert. Invest in some customer service training and this restaurant could be absolutely awesome because the food was excellent!

Visited Porters after seeing the reviews on booking.com and we were not disappointed. The owners are a lovely couple & very welcoming. The room we had was spacious and clean and an enjoyable stay was had. Breakfast was good with fresh fruit & yoghurt and a well cooked bacon sarnie with good coffee. Monica & Tony were very hospitable and good conversation was had over our two days with them. All the cakes are homemade & made on site so nothing like homemade food. If you’re in Helmsley then visit Porters whether it be to stay or for coffee & cake. You’ll get a proper welcome from a true Yorkshire Man & a great Polish Lass

Curries were very bland and lacking in flavour. The chutney tray pots were very small and only half full. Also, one of the dishes was different to what was ordered. When we rang up to complain they said they had ran out of the main ingredient and the delivery driver should have told us at the point of delivery. This is not acceptable as we should have been told before it was delivered.

Came here for a late lunch recently, after a recommendation from a local. What a find! The indoor seating area is in the gorgeous old Victorian Greenhouses, with grape vines trailing above the tables. I had the Coronation Chicken Sandwich, which was delicious and my wife greatly enjoyed her Humous Salad. The attention to detail here is really good - wonderful crockery too and friendly staff. Enjoy the 5 acres of Walled Gardens and then savour some great food!

This was the best Indian food we’ve ever had to takeaway. Absolutely delicious. The cheese and garlic naan was amazing - so cheesy! Very generous portions - enough for the next day. Extensive menu, plenty to choose from, I really liked that most dishes could be chicken/lamb/prawn or paneer. Staff were friendly and service was quick and efficient. We will definitely be back when we’re in the area. Highly recommend.

Whole place was freezing. Sat with our costs on. Service was very slow. Half the meal was missing. Then just to finish it off the dog which I assume belongs to the owners cocked it's leg and passed urine all over the children's play area. We told the staff who shrugged their shoulders. As we left we found glass also in the play area. Sadly won't return. It's a shame as this used to be a lovely place. Prices do not reflect the food or service
