The best restaurants in Helmsley Ryedale Yorkshire and The Humber

Overpriced for what you get. I ordered the Dahl which was about £14 so I expected a substantial meal. It came with two quarters of a pitta, no rice, no salad just the topping. It did taste nice but I feel it should have been priced similar to a soup as it was just a bowl of Dahl and two small pitta slices. My husband had the hummus bowl which again was nice but the two meals, two diet cokes and a coffee came to £38.30. I ended up eating again as I just didn’t feel full. It was such a shame as the location and building are stunning and service was quick, I just don’t feel it was value for money at all.

Enjoyed the Mocha and fed that back, however the avocado on toast was appalling. One single piece of toast with a small amount of avocado for £8.. When I gave feedback to owner at his request he just walked off, no apology or attempt to put things right.

Been here so many times for our ice creams. The choice is extensive and the quality outstanding. By far the best ice cream in the county. Definitely 5* Lunch in the Black Swan and an ice cream waffle cone from here afterwards is the perfect finish before the drive back home.

A great place to enjoy just a coffee and a cake or one of their great main dishes.

Really friendly and tasty fare. Plenty of choice which was a real representation of good Yorkshire fare. Reasonably priced too

It was my first visit and I was not disappointed. I loved all the restaurants, cafes and shops. It was market day while we were there but as it had snowed, only a few stalls came. We certainly got friendly service from the stall holders though. I shall go back for another visit soon, but book everything in advance, especially the restaurants, which get very busy.

We visited this tearoom after while back after a hike and what we had to eat and drink was amazing. The coffee was perfect, which is rare. The food was lovely, I had a lavender scone. A true oasis.

Prepared in front of us. Lovely friendly owners. Great tasting fish and chips, still piping hot after a 5 min drive home. Thank you!!

A gorgeous bakery/grocery. Their sausage rolls are simply sensational. With a wide selection of produce it would be hard to go wrong

Had a couple of nice meals while staying in a lodge here. The vegi breakfast was extremely tasty! On the evening all the staff were very friendly but Erica was absolutely amazing! What a woman she is 😆

Curries were very bland and lacking in flavour. The chutney tray pots were very small and only half full. Also, one of the dishes was different to what was ordered. When we rang up to complain they said they had ran out of the main ingredient and the delivery driver should have told us at the point of delivery. This is not acceptable as we should have been told before it was delivered.

Lovely food and friendly efficient service by Jess and Eva. Cosy atmosphere and good lunch today. Handy for Helmsley and will be back for a spa soon!

The standard of food and portion size from this Indian restaurant is second to none. Ignore the rumours from neighbouring shops and their cohorts scaremongering about hygiene standards in the kitchen, this restaurant is certainly worth a visit. The restaurant is mock Tudor and, like the staff, is very welcoming. Parking is yards away in the market place of Helmsley. The chicken tiki achari is amazing, their fish choices vast and their Chefs Recommendations and Spice Specials must be looked at and tried. This review is from a die hard lifelong curry eater, but the food served here is exceptional.

Pleasant lunch tainted by rude, male staff member - we thought we were really spoiled to have such a wide selection of Vegan options, the girl who served our food was lovely, the attitude of the male really was cringeworthy. I'd like to think we're all allowed a bad day, but going by the other reviews it seems it's a permanent feature. We watched him give others the same treatment where we sat. Not really acceptable to subject paying customers to such attitude, we should have probably just walked out and cancelled our order. There was an issue with how long it took to get drinks, masochistically we ordered a 2nd round of hot(ish) drinks (because they weren't that warm the first time), we again got an "is that all?!" from the ray of sunshine behind the counter who then turned his back to us. Food was OK, tasty enough hard to criticise without the review feeling vindictive to the grumpy guy, the sides (coleslaw, sliced potatoes) didn't really add anything or have much flavour, but the mains were nice enough. Summary: Coffee - Warm, Food - Nice, Service Girl - Great/Guy-Awful, Cafe-Nicely located.
