We came upon this cafe while searching Helmsley for somewhere to eat. Having looked at a lot, hotels, cafes, Italian restaurant etc. we decided this filled the criteria we wanted, a good choice of menu, clean, tidy & popular with really competitive prices. 2 of us had quiche of the day ( broccoli & cheese) served with jacket potato, salad, coleslaw & crisps, it was an ample plateful which we couldn’t finish. Our husbands went for the cheeseburger with bacon, served with chips, salad & coleslaw. Both said their meals were delicious too but my hubby struggled with the amount of food. The portions are extremely good so I would recommend going when you are really hungry. It appeared that it was run by husband & wife team, wife cooking & husband serving, clearing & cleaning tables & making drinks. We were there about an hour, with a busy turnover of customers, some not getting in at all, approximately seating for 22-24 so timing is crucial, we bagged the last 2 pieces of quiche, which was lucky, so be warned.

The cafe is really lovely and cosy and the staff so nice. We had intended having the proper breakfast which looked amazing but due to having a 3 course meal booked elsewhere early evening decided to just have a bacon sandwich which in itself was good and plenty of it but a big no no was it came on seeded bread. In my opinion bacon on seeded definitely is not on. My husband enjoyed both of them though. Please inform people that’s what it comes as I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this. Otherwise lovely coffee and atmosphere

What a little gem of a place this was! I was looking to find somewhere a bit different and quirky to celebrate my sister’s birthday and this did not disappoint in any way! The cocktails were brilliant and the owner guided us in our choices. Intimate, great ambiance and the perfect choice for the start to our evening’s entertainment! Thank you!

Been here so many times for our ice creams. The choice is extensive and the quality outstanding. By far the best ice cream in the county. Definitely 5* Lunch in the Black Swan and an ice cream waffle cone from here afterwards is the perfect finish before the drive back home.

Visited the dome last night with friends and family. Food was excellent, the staff were amazing and the attention to detail was exceptional. Surely there is a Michelin star waiting.

Disappointed, the only bread option for every dish was white ciabatta, scrambled egg was microwaved and my husband’s sandwich consisted of bland, cheap sausages which the dog enjoyed. Lovely location but not worth a return visit when there are so many quality eatery options in Helmsley.

Ordered the Brie & Bacon and cranberry Sandwich, it was missing the Cranberry so may have been the most tasteless thing I’ve ever ate. Ordered a pudding, the crumble, came with about a shot size of custard. This is the same for the Inn Collection Kings head, thinking it’s a recurring theme to avoid these pubs ! ☹️

Visited with family. There’s a really nice feel to the place. We arrived early for dinner and spent some time in the bar (with wood burner) then ate went in the dining room which has a lovely view of the valley. We chose snacks and starters, as the menu looked so good. Snacks were gougeres (perfect), an aranicino with nduja mayo (freshly made) and Yorkshire Rarebit, this being enormous. We had two starters - monkfish “scampi” and a magnificent and imaginative venison faggot dish. Our mains were: chicken burger and fries for our daughter; Toulouse sausages with puy lentils and celeriac remoulade; and partridge with cabbage etc. The sausages were spiced with nutmeg etc and tasted light not heavy. For the first time in a very, very long time we were defeated by the portion sizes and couldn’t manage a pudding. I’ve seen a review suggesting the portions were on the small side - all I can say is that this absolutely definitely wasn’t the case with us. We loved the food; clearly a chef thinking seasonal and local. Excellent all round and I had to look twice when I got the bill - £113 for 3 or about £37 per head. Unbelievable value for money, particularly for food of this quality.
