great scones - and cream - tea a bit weak for me but husband likes that. Good, professional, polite, service, asked for tea and cake - but we did not get offered a menu or price list . Was a bit dear for us - and we did not mind as a treat but we won't be going again-sorry.

From the friendliness of the girl behind the counter, to the guy serving upstairs, to the lad who brought our coffees, the chefs who created our lunch, , I commend you all. To the owner, you must be very proud of your staff, they are a credit to you and your business. In these horrid and uncertain times they made our lunch experience one of the best. As I said to the girl on paying, you’ve totally nailed it. Thankyou.

Noted this lovely place yesterday whilst in town with our 2 small dogs. Lovely little garden cum patio area and tables all at a safe social distance. We timed it right and got a table just before it opened at 10am and the place was soon full. 2 very friendly and efficient female staff took order of 2 full English breakfasts and drinks, and as it was still Eat Out to Help Out, it only came to just over £15! The food and drink were excellent. Dog friendly where we sat. Highly recommended.

This is an above average cafe serving a crowd pleasing range of light lunches and cakes. The interior of the building is traditional if a little plain. It is very pricey, but the staff are friendly and the food is nice. We enjoyed the Yorkshire rarebit with bacon which was served with a tasty tomato chutney; a slight criticism would be that the crust of the bread was very tough. I did find two small gravel like stones in my food which I pointed out to the apologetic waitress; consequently the price of our drinks were taken off our bill, so I cannot say fairer than that.In a town saturated with eateries, this is worth a visit.

We came in for a coffee and a snack. We had a sausage roll, but no ordinary one, with our coffees. Home made, giant size and delicious, served with a home made chutney that is made fresh every day. Only downside was that the chutney is not for sale in jars. If it had been we would have stocked up! Its also a great pity this lovely place is so far from home. Like another reviewer I wish there was a Mannions near me.

Visiting Helmsley and read reviews and thought we’d try and get a seat. This place’s reputation is well deserved. The lady who met us was lovely and found us a table quickly despite them being very busy. Menu was a great mix of charcuterie and generous sandwiches. My kids shared a pork and apple sandwich and loved the crackling. I had a bits and bobs platter which was generous and really felt like a treat! Coffee also really good. Main thing I liked was how friendly the staff were and how quick the service was which is always a relief when you have little kids. Would definitely return and recommend to others. Lovely place

Great to see them back in Helmsley (and York) and adapting to a different way of doing business. Fantastic takeaway menu - sandwiches and full meals, plus the legendary meat and cheese boards. All perfect for a picnic, or they're also reopening with a few tables for eating in and outside too.Had a lovely sandwich, decent coffee, and cakes. The service and consistency is as ever second to none. It's perhaps not the cheapest, but well worth it - you definitely get what you pay for.Really hope they try some evenings in Helmsley - we'd be there all the time. The town is crying out for something different to just the hotels, pubs and Italian restaurants.

After visiting York earlier in the year we couldn’t help but visit there sister site in helmsley, a beautiful drive lovely surroundings and an even better lunch! Despite it not been a weekend or holiday it was still busy (always a good sign!!). When seated the staff were attentive and brought menus straight over and we ordered swiftly after managing to decide what to have. We could have had one of everything. The lady serving helped us on all of our many questions we had and recommended my friend a great glass of wine with her lunch and it was even better to have the option of a 100ml glass so we could try a couple or even just enjoy a little treat with a meal while driving! Defiantly worth a drive out even if it’s for coffee and cake or a special occasion! Both sites have friendly and helpful staff and great food, can’t have one without the other! We will be back!

Poor allergen advice, rubbish menus, slightly overpriced. The blackboard menus upstairs really need to be rethought, if you’re sat anywhere near either end then you constantly feel like the everyone else is staring at you, if you’re sitting anywhere else upstairs you’re having to glare around your back to see the menus. It really wouldn’t be hard to print 10-12 paper copies with the specials of the day and everyone would be happy. The main menu that is 90% drinks and 10% sharing boards shows allergy advice and the dreaded blackboards don’t offer any information and the waitresses on duty weren’t able to help. A couple on the table next to us had to leave and we really struggled due to this. The price is slightly high for the quality of the food and drink in my opinion.

Set just behind the main square in an old characterful property with an option of upstairs or downstairs seating. Initially the prices looked a little higher than average, but in fact the extra quality is worth it. Hot drinks were served in lovely pottery and with a homemade biscotti. The quality of the ingredients and the skill of the preparation and presentation justify the slightly higher prices. The coffee is excellent, the staff equally so. Nothing to do with the food but if you are at all infirm avoid the stairs which are part of the old building and the treads of which are narrow and only a few inches deep so eat downstairs or in the lower downstairs area the few steps to which are much easier. It’s worth the effort.

I stumbled upon this place in Helmsely purely by accident. I love the feel of the old up-cycled furniture. Normally I struggle to find vegetarian friendly food, but I struggled to choose something off the menu. Dill yogurt, apricot and halloumi was a great combination for a sandwich. The salad was also a great accompaniment, as was the relish. The coffee was great, it is worth visiting just for that alone. The outside seating looked really nice but the place was packed so I had to sit upstairs. I loved the charm of the old building, especially with the up-cycled furniture. Anyone vegetarian in the area should definitely visit as you won't be disappointed.

We called in for late brunch, sat on the top floor and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the charming staff. We ate the pork belly sandwich which was seriously THE best sandwich the world has ever welcomed! The olives (the description doesn’t do this dish justice as it’s a large sharing bowl with olives, pickles, peppers and served with bread and delicious olive oil and balsamic vinegar) were a delicious meal in themselves and the halloumi sandwich was full of flavour. It was such a shame we couldn’t fit in dessert. Even the coffee was extremely good and we had to buy biscotti to take away as it was heavenly.

Decent choice of food available however we ordered pie mash Mushy peas and gravy. Only had 1 pie (so got a pasty as there was 2 of us) Mash was made from a jacket potato it was very lumpy tinned peas over blasted in the microwave served with a smile however forgot the gravy and it arrived half way through us eating the meal. Sadly this place could be a little gold mine if run correctly and proper attention to detail applied with the food. We hafmd our lunch at 12.15 so there was no way they could have ran out of mash? Could do better really

Booked the brewery tour package from Red Letter days. The tour was very informative with Josh being a fountain of knowledge and obviously loving brewing and beer. His witty remarks and low key humour really made the tour enjoyable. The beer tasting in the bar was flexible and offered a pint taken eith as a pint, two halves or a flight of 3, third pints to enable a range to be tried! Although a small brewery they have some quite advanced mechanisation for bottling, canning and casking! Very impressed,

A lovely friendly bakery, just one wee table to sit and and have a coffee and observe the comings and goings of the regulars, the holiday makers and day trippers. Bread and cakes wonderful, a lovely lady owns this place and I wish her well!

Really friendly and tasty fare. Plenty of choice which was a real representation of good Yorkshire fare. Reasonably priced too
