Gorgeous veggie food in a chilled out small upstairs dining space. Potions were big but not overwhelmingly so. Also a deli.

Popped in today for lunch, having the Egyptian special salad, absolutely gorgeous- highly recommend

So great to find a veggie/vegan place in Malton found with mainly panini/sandwich cafes (although nothing wrong with that) and was full of vibes Such a lovely warm welcome on arrival, interesting menu with lots of choice. The supreme burrito was amazing, the loft as inside were packed full of flavour and really generous with the salads. The seating area was really cosy Cakes looked amazing but was too full to eat more! Definitely worth a visit

We got a table for what I think was the cafe's first evening event: a thali feast! It was absolutely DELICIOUS, and everything home made, vegetarian and alcohol free. It's a set menu, and on the night we went we had fried okra to start, followed by the thali 'proper' (lots of little bowls of loveliness) and a bruleed Indian rice pudding which I forgot to take a photo of because I was too busy eating it. Service was sweet and friendly, and all in a lovely relaxed and homey atmosphere. We'll definitely be going again.

Wow - what a fantastic vegan cafe,great food and delicious cake plus you can take your dogs in. Order before you find a table upstairs, limited seating but beautifully decorated and cosy. Would not eat anywhere else in Molton.Go here everytime we visit the town.

Almost went flying on entering as wasn't expecting step down, which was no doubt my fault. Good Americano and apple strudel for 7.50 (maybe should offer cream or vegan equivalent with strudel?). Steep stairs to very pleasant cafe area, so not suitable for disabled access. Friendly staff.

Gorgeous food served by friendly staff in a wonderful atmosphere. Every detail was beautiful.

Utterly delicious kofta. Ate it sat outside in the cold, with a coffee from Roost in the Talbot Yard. Very generous too, the way it's served on a wooden skewer.

Amazing little jewel. Serving excellent vegan and vegetarian food. The restaurant is quirky and fun, we visit as often as possible. Dogs allowed too!

Coffee good cake terrible, 3 people tried this cake and agreed it was not good, it had a musty taste. Staff insisted it always taisted like this, which they seemed to think was a good thing? No 'sorry you find it unpalatable' or offer of substitute. Badly handled. I was left feeling upset. I would have expected them to want feedback good or bad, and to deal with it in a professional manner. I have worked in the hospitality and catering industry for many years and I'm shocked.

I have visited Purple Carrot many times particularly when I worked in Malton. Always loved it! I live in Scarborough so made the journey to visit today as quite honestly I’m missing this gorgeous little delight of a place. My two whippet Meadow & Orchard accompanied me. Purple Carrot is such an inviting and quirky/earthy & beautiful cafe/shop. The food is absolutely delicious, so colourful healthy and tempting. The owners are friendly and so hard working they really do deserve to reap the rewards of such culinary skills. On sale are lovely pretty treats for the home/kitchen. I bought some dried flowers today & another time I purchased a painting which sits above my dressing table. I cannot recommend this place enough, a jewel, the heart of Malton town. Thank you so much

Called in yesterday and got a slice of the coffee pecan cake to take away, It was delicious, wish I had got an extra slice for today as well. I will definitely go back to try more. Everything in the display counter looked amazing and fresh. It was also lovely to receive service with a smile. Well done

Found my new go-to cafe up North! Glad we pinpointed and had the patience to wait until a table was free. Well worth it, confirming from experience, that every cell in me felt nourished after eating and drinking here. Would make the extra little effort to return and have anything and everything off their menu. Colourful tasty food, all very nourishing. Busy popular place. Love it.

Superb salad bowl, excellent coffee.

Deliiiiciousss food and top coffee. We had an amaretti biscuit, apple strudel and the goats cheese tart (not necessarily in that order). Cosy setting and great service, highly recommend.

What a place! Wide range of absolutely gorgeous vegan food. Burritos are delicious (I have tried them all!) Bought a selection of quiches, koftas, etc to keep in fridge for this week’s lunches. Yum!

What a gem! Great little 2 storey characterful cafe in Malton, Yorkshire. A lovely selection of savory and sweet food and really good coffee. I had the samosa with chilli sauce (best samosa I've ever had) and a flat white coffee. The service was excellent and the food great value for money.

This is an incredible place for coffee/cake/lunch. The meals are healthy and mostly vegan. The food is amazing and the staff are very knowledgeable about the food which they make themselves. This business is a real asset to Malton and the star of the town. Friendly service, fantastic food.

Lovely little café with some (limited) seating upstairs. I had an an apple strudel and cappuccino, although a little on the pricey side, it does show that you really do get what you pay for! The strudel was dense and reminded me of the time that I've spent in Bavaria and Austria. The cappuccino was rich and full of flavour, with a rich froth. All in all, a very satisfied customer, and I'll likely be returning on future visits to Malton!

Absolutely lovely little cafe, gorgeous cakes and coffee, so pleased we found it.

Amazing vegan food, really delicious. You can sit in or takeaway, good selection. Yes there aren’t many tables but when we were the first to sit down, so pick your time if you definitely want to eat in. It is small so better for 2 people rather than a party of 6. Big parties can still enjoy the food taken away. Good value and lovely to have a good selection of vegan food, which meat eaters will also enjoy and the cakes - you won’t even realise they are plant based.

We only bought a couple of bits to take away, a samosa and a spinach filo pastry. They were absolutely incredible! I can honestly say I've never had such a fresh and lovely tasting samosa EVER! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We travelled quite a way to visit Malton, and will definitely be returning just because of this little gem. I think it's important to add that we're not vegan or vegetarian either, but some of the vegan food is more tasty than the regular stuff. 😊

Spent ages looking for a car parking space but I’m glad we persevered because we had a lovely experience. My partner had the mushroom sandwich and I had a savory pastry with two cups of delicious coffee. We also got two cakes to go (fresh fruit and berries) which were incredible and probably the best vegan cake I’ve had. There’s only five tables upstairs but it’s so cute and cosy we didn’t mind. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area.

Absolutely amazing. The queue outside gives you a clue but the cooking aromas and the food inside were simply fantastic. I'm not even a vegan but it never crossed my mind! We took supplies back to our accommodation too. So many choices but certainly the best samosas I've tasted. Lovely people too; friendly, helpful and very patient as we tried to make our minds up.

The whole experience was excellent. An excellent lunch, and a takeaway from the counter. I’ve eaten a lot of quiches in my time, but this one is the best I’ve ever had. And lovely service. Highly recommended.

Charming and nice food, great choice for veggie/vegan options

Liked the look of the place so went in. Once I had been upstairs to seating then realised that you had to order at the counter I was in tune. No menu as such, just little name boards dotted around, so I let my eyes do the choosing. A nutty, falafel sort of along with a potato type salad, carrot salad and leaf salad, all with dressings was fabulous. My latte to go with it arrived in a handle less ‘pot’ which was useless until the coffee had cooled. I looked enviously at the women opposite who had two cup handles to my none. All in all I can forgive the coffee cup because the food was fabulous!

Always a joy to eat here! The food is spectacular and completely vegan, the decor is whimsical and joyous. Because the property has such a small footprint, the dining area is upstairs.

Just had the portobello mushroom super sandwich and it was out of this world! Superb! What a wonderful deli and cafe. Everything looks fresh, tasty and very delicious. Treat yourself!

Supreme food and service always, delicious options of sweets and savouries. Highly recommend any sandwich on the board, salad bowls are good too - you get what you pay for !

Even though it was just after lunch time the staff were unhelpful on wait times and didn't seem interested in customers. This was a shame as the food looked good

We were pleased to be seated upstairs for a morning coffee at the Purple Carrot. Plenty of room while we were there and coffee served swiftly. Nice to be able to watch the world go by out in the street from the window. Quick and efficient, did the job.

The food is amazing! I met a friend here for breakfast. She had a turmeric latte and I had almond flat white. The food was so tasty and fresh. Excellent place to meet and eat or just have coffee.

Lovely vegan food from this great little cafe, a really good lunch selection, I had quiche and salad which were delicious. Also lots of vegan cakes to choose from, you would not know they were vegan. The staff were friendly and polite and service was good. The café upstairs is quite small, maybe only 5 tables and they don’t do bookings, so you have to hope to get in, we had no problem. They also do takeaway. Highly recommended.

The food here is tremendous but let down by the rude, inhospitable staff. Tried getting a table there on three occasions and each time we’ve been unsuccessful. That’s to be expected when there are only a few tables however whenever we have ask to wait...

Great food and superb coffee. Only problem was having to stand at the counter near entrance door to choose from the chalked up menu. It just felt uncomfortable and rushed.

Popped in here for a quick takeaway snack, and was very impressed with the range of cakes, a number of which were vegan, and the menu displayed above the counter. I picked up a vegetable samosa and a coconut cookie, which were both tasty, but...

Love this place. I mostly grab lunch to take away. I've tried most baked savouries and my fave is the borek. I once had an incredible frangipani rhurbarb muffin. It was honestly one of the best cakes I've ever tasted!

Small but perfectly formed, the Purple Carrot is the kind of place you go to and realise if you could cook like that, you'd never eat meat again. Everything is delicious. Pies, pastries, cake, salads. Everything is filled with flavour and there is nothing like it for the genius of the components. Easily one of my favourite places to eat anywhere.

Travelled from Durham to meet up with friends from Doncaster...ideal halfway location...what a stunning place, everything delicious, crisp tasty veg samosas, wonderful vegan selection, terrific shared mixed salad...and we went back later for delicious cakes to go...a marvellous, friendly, generous, warm-hearted cafe/deli...actually even better than...

Even if you are not vegan/vegetarian then this place is definitely worth a visit. The food was amazing and the staff were more than helpful to explain what each dish contained. On a side not the restaurant is quite small so might not always be able to get a table and I don't believe you can book. Other than that highly recommend

Very good food, but a bit cramped if eating inside. We had to chose on entering before getting to our table, and hadn't taken in the full menu. It was a bit rushed but we loved the Moroccan Filo Pie and Lentil, Spinach and vegan Feta Borek, with a mix of salads, we has selected. The room upstairs is very nicely decorated, with friendly service, but very cramped (as it is only a very small property they are in). 5/5 for the food, really interesting and healthy vegan menu, and good they do takeaway options as well as eat in. However, worth reading the menu before you arrive, and being aware it is a tight fit upstairs if you are eating in.

Unusual cafe. Had a host of home made and a variety of; great international food ( my favourite) The building was old and characterful, clean. Staff were polite. Pricing was reasonable

Absolutely delicious genuinely can't fault any of the food or drinks. Very well priced and I've returned many times to try out all of the menu which often has changing seasonal specials. Even as a meat eater I don't feel like I'm missing meat since all the food is so we'll balanced and flavourful.

Lovely little place with a nice, rustic atmosphere. I was on my own but I wasn't allowed upstairs first to see if there was any seating before I decided to eat in or take out, the lady behind the counter stopped me and said I had to order first before going upstairs. There are different prices for eat in or take out, so was unsure which to order and didn't want to order for eat in if there was nowhere to sit. I ordered a savoury snack from the counter and a cappuccino. The food was very nice but the cappuccino was only just warm. I'd recommend for the food but not for the coffee and service.

We've had takeaway food several weeks running and it's always absolutely superb. The flavours and colours! Utterly delicious.

I love this cafe - it’s small, cozy and full of character. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome and enjoy your time here. I like to come to recharge and have “me time.” An absolute gem! ☺️

What a find ! Out of this world vegan fare. Stopped of in Malton looking for a bite to eat. Family of 3 . Super friendly staff and gorgeous food. Highly reccomend the peppers and seeds tart with a mixed salad. Highly recommended !

Have been here before for the lovely food but sadly won't return again, very unhelpful and unfriendly staff and rude owner. Undeserving of my hard earned cash. A shame as the food is good but felt pushed out the door and that my custom was unwanted

Lovely little vegan cafe and take out. Had coffee and vegan chocolate cake which tasted great, then purchased some of their homemade vegan dishes to try at home..... Would recommend even if like me you're not vegan it makes a nice change..

My husband and I ate here on a rainy Saturday in early January whilst enjoying the foodie town of Malton. We were lucky to get in straight away, as it is very small. The food was amazing and have to say the best we have...

We were visiting the area and are so glad we found The Purple Carrot. Delicious vegan food, soooooo many choices and all looking delicious. We had a bowl of the 5 salads to share (huge with varied flavours, colours, textures… amazing) and a warmed spinach, vegan-feta and lentil pastry each (again, beautiful, very tasty and filling). It would have been rude not to have had a couple of sweet treats (all the cakes are vegan and looked fantastic), so we tried the 2 brownies on offer. One was cooked with Polish beer, and surprisingly to us it just topped the walnut brownie. Lovely coffee. Beautifully decorated. Must come again and try more things when we’re next passing through.

Popped in to pick up a couple of snacks. The samosa's are to die for, and the plum cake (probably to an old Polish recipe) was simply divine. I will definitely be returning and stocking up with both ! Well worth a visit.

Nice little vegetarian place, however I don.t like the fact that a lot of places charge an extra 50p on top of your hot drink just because you choose to have alternative milk I.e. oat/ coconut / soya. I am sure it Is a hinderance...
