This is such a lovely local pub with a fabulous atmosphere. Sharon and Rob are so welcoming and friendly. They carry a large range of real ales which are kept well. They don't serve food but you are welcome to bring in a takeaway. It also has a large beer garden at the back.

It might not be in the town centre, but it's absolutely in the heart of the community. Always a relaxed and friendly place with a similar atmosphere, probably the most relaxing, sociable, and amiable pub in Pickering. A varied "calendar" of events/quizzes/live music/karaoke added to a superb range of drinks choices, regular C.A.M.R.A. Award winners, a huge garden for enjoying those days and evenings outside....when the great British weather permits!! I've been a patron for decades, since last century, and it's always a pleasure to visit. Their monthly events calendar is usually suspended in the month of August in order to welcome folks/tourists visiting -- often revisiting-- for the summer holidays/tourist season, and to give the usual performers and participants a break, too. I live not far away from the Sun Inn, and regularly direct "lost" tourists/town visitors to their door when I'm working in my front garden. Need I say more?!!

I was visiting Pickering and popped in on a Wednesday night while walking the dog. The Sun was pretty quiet, but this was the right atmosphere to enjoy a quick pint. It had a good selection of beers, and I liked the decor. I would be extremely happy if this was my local. I tried the other drinking pubs in Pickering (not the two posh food ones!) and this was my favourite; refunded if you like good conversation and ales.

A nice enough pub with limited space in the main bar area and more room in the added sun room. It does have an enormous beer garden which stretches into the distance, up a grassy hill. The interior seating isn't particularly comfortable but they do have decent beer. The biggest let down is that they don't do food and steps should be taken to rectify this, as they could make a killing, where they are situated on the edge of the town. We would have eaten there several times, had we been able to. I know you can bring your own food in but that's not the same as being able to order decent home cooked food.

Stopped on for a drink prior to a curry in town (no food served in the pub). There were four cask ales at the bar, all unknown to me as a visitor, and the landlord gave me a small taster first to allow me to ensure I was happy with my choice. The Helmsley IPA from just down the road was superb! Hoppy, creamy and not too bitter on the aftertaste. ABV 5.5% - so on the strong side. This pub is a must for cask ale lovers, but plenty of other choices also on tap.

The Bay Horse Inn in Burythorpe is an excellent pub - very cosy, attractively decorated and with two fire places (at least!) ensuring the place is warm throughout. An excellent range of Old Mill beers on tap, including their Traditional Bitter, of which I couldn’t get enough. We were there every night of our week’s stay in Burythorpe - in fact James, behind the bar, practically had my pint ready for me as I walked in the door after the 2nd evening. The owners and staff were all very friendly, and the food delicious - we ate in the pub four times, with food ranging from burgers, vegetable tarts, pizzas and excellent fish and chips, we were more than satisfied each time. For such a welcoming, cosy village-feel pub with a great warm atmosphere, my only hope is it gets busier over time - perhaps because Burythorpe is a small village, at times we were the only customers in, but it deserves a lot more custom. We’re absolutely hoping to be able to go back at some point.

Very comfortable stay, cozy pub with good food, staff were very friendly. My stay was good all round. Good menu I had the steak and a couple pints. The room was basic but homely very neat and tidy, the bathroom is outside the room but I think that is reflected in the price which is very reasonable, sub £50 midweek. We spent a very rainy morning of our holiday here with our 21 month old, the staff are really friendly and helpful and there is a fabulous relaxed atmosphere. Our little absolutely loved the soft play and happily spent at least a couple of hours climbing, sliding and running and she would probably have stayed longer! We had a pleasant lunch of baked potatoes and warm baguettes. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area! Our only very slight suggestion would be to get some new batteries for some of the role play toys . Overall a really enjoyable experience, well done guys you really are doing a wonderful job!
