Walked in and was amazed by how friendly the people in here were Annie the bar person was a friendly lass who made me as welcome as any other person in the room a bit of friendly chat over my Ipswich top will definitely make a call in next time I’m in the area

Lovely pub with excellent staff

This was a great find. Staying in Pickering for 2 nights we called in on the Saturday night and it was really busy and standing room only. Great to see a pub doing so well. We didn't stay that night as we just wanted to sit & chat but decided to go back on the Sunday night. We got a nice seat and there were some great beers on offer for a good price. Friendly barman, guessing it's his business. Had a great night and will definitely be back when we're next in the area.

Great real ales that had changed the next day. Staff found us a table in the main bar as there was a band on in the side room and we’d got 2 dogs with us so was a bit too loud for them. Traditional style pub with books and games, wood burning fire, real ale pump clasps decorating the ceiling something of interest everywhere you looked, returned several times during our week long holiday

Landlady should do stand up comedy. Beer was great as well will pay another visit over the weekend. Thank you.

Really nice cosy & welcoming pub, the Barman was lovely, locally known as Scottish Sam, he was very friendly, beer was good, nice atmosphere, we went on a Monday so it was quite quiet but I imagine its very busy at weekends, would recommend, but would point out they don't serve food.

I was visiting Pickering and popped in on a Wednesday night while walking the dog. The Sun was pretty quiet, but this was the right atmosphere to enjoy a quick pint. It had a good selection of beers, and I liked the decor. I would be extremely happy if this was my local. I tried the other drinking pubs in Pickering (not the two posh food ones!) and this was my favourite; refunded if you like good conversation and ales.

Visited the Sun 3 Times this summer the beer & actually pub is excellent but the bar staff seemed very miserable & not welcoming which put a bit of a dampener on it for us.

Friendly hospitable pub with great atmosphere the feel of a country pub where a lot of locals go to socialise did not sample any food went wrong time of day for that the one and only drawback was difficult parking so a short walk to the pub would be best

Good old fashioned local with Samuel Smith's ales Unfortunately dogs not allowed inside but welcome in beer garden . Worth a visit for the good old atmosphere and friendliness.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, the beer and cider range was very good, the only thing that stops 5 stars was the soda water was quite flat and the driver left most of it. But don't let that detract from all the good things at this place!

This is the first time l have been to the Sun. Definitely go again. We went with 5 adults and three children various ages and one dog. We sat outside in the large garden with lots of seating. Although they don't serve food the kids were happy with crisps and snacks. Drinks were good and my son in law said the beer 🍺 was always good. Staff very friendly and we all had a lovely afternoon sat in the Sunshine. A must if you are visiting Pickering. No parking at the pub but you can park close by. A real gem in lovely Pickering.

A nice enough pub with limited space in the main bar area and more room in the added sun room. It does have an enormous beer garden which stretches into the distance, up a grassy hill. The interior seating isn't particularly comfortable but they do have decent beer. The biggest let down is that they don't do food and steps should be taken to rectify this, as they could make a killing, where they are situated on the edge of the town. We would have eaten there several times, had we been able to. I know you can bring your own food in but that's not the same as being able to order decent home cooked food.

Fantastic pub that sort of defies description. There's a lovely old 'classic' bar, a large airy extension and a massive beer garden. There's a great range of really well kept ales that go so fast they seem to be different every day. The prices are very good and most of the staff are really friendly. Dog friendly too. Definitely one to keep coming back to.

Stopped on for a drink prior to a curry in town (no food served in the pub). There were four cask ales at the bar, all unknown to me as a visitor, and the landlord gave me a small taster first to allow me to ensure I was happy with my choice. The Helmsley IPA from just down the road was superb! Hoppy, creamy and not too bitter on the aftertaste. ABV 5.5% - so on the strong side. This pub is a must for cask ale lovers, but plenty of other choices also on tap.

Excellent pub in Pickering. Great choice of beers with 6 on cask. We were staying in Pickering for a week and we went to the Sun every day. Beer really fresh and had a good turnover. Staff all very friendly. Lovely beer garden. Definitely the best pub in town.

This is by far the best pub in Pickering. They have 6 real ales on, always a dark always Tetleys. 4 rotating guests. The welcome is great, very friendly

Six beautifully kept real ales (Tetley's bitter and five guest beers) and loads of ciders, a nice atmosphere and a room at the back where you can bring and eat your own food. A proper boozer 👍.

Opening hours not updated on Google leading to people wasting their time. Yes I could have called ahead but people shouldn't have to call every pub they visit before hand, its in the centre of Pickering not the back of beyond. How difficult is it to edit the opening hours, a 2 minute job?

Set off the main road to the West of the town this inconspicuous pub is a gem. The best pub in Pickering. A good sized bar serving half a dozen cask ales, all well conditioned and served by a friendly barman. No food served here just a friendly busy pub. Also has an adjoining large games / function room.

Went for the beer festival. Very well kept real ale. The staff and landlady are really friendly and accommodating. The locals seemed like a good crowd too. Hope to return one day

One of the best pubs in Pickering. 6 real ales on offer and kept well. 2 rooms and one bar. Clean, friendly and cosy. No surprising that it gets several CAMRA awards. A big beer garden. In which a beer festival is held over about 3-4 days in September under a large marquee. Easy walking distance from the town centre on Westgate. Highly recommended.

what can i say everything that needs to be said as been said great choice of ale,always in first class condition landlady always got a smile for her customers took my grandson in the other day he started to count the beer pump clips that are on the walls he gave it up as a bad job at around 300 or so only one very small grip(but can understand why)do,s not open till 4.o.clock monday till thursday

Brilliant beers. A range of real ales, well kept and served with a smile. There are five guest beers that change regularly. I had one of my favourite pints; Timothy Taylor Landlord, it did not disappoint. Alongside beers there are also a range of ciders and snacks.

After a nice walk from Middleton to Pickering dodging the showers we called into this quant little pub. Huge beer garden to the back, dog friendly and really nice landlady and bar staff. Had a nice lambs navy rum and will be going back to try the real ales and the live music on Saturday night.

Nice friendly pub right near the centre which is handy, parking can be an issue, but the beer garden and good pints makes up for it!

This is the sort of place everyone who likes a good pub, that's comfy, has decent beer and cider and a great big beer garden hopes to find. Cracking pub.

Happened upon this pub on vinyl night. Beer was good, music was good, staff were lovely and it's very dog friendly. I wish it was my local! It's nicely laid out and there's a good selection of moderately-priced whiskies too. What made my night was that the woman who served us brought out a water bowl and beds for our sighthounds, who get uncomfortable on hard floors. It was such a lovely touch.
