Ryeburn of Helmsley in Ryedale

Been here so many times for our ice creams. The choice is extensive and the quality outstanding. By far the best ice cream in the county. Definitely 5* Lunch in the Black Swan and an ice cream waffle cone from here afterwards is the perfect finish before the drive back home.

We went in for coffee and cake , we were welcomed by two pleasant smiley young staff . In a wonderful town like Helmsley bursting with exceptional food outlets , I didn’t think their cake offerings were that inspiring and the coffee was ok .

Went for at country walk this week and finished off with an amazing Latte at this ice cream parlour and tearoom, we’ve had a lot coffees in different places round Yorkshire but their coffee is the best we’ve had anywhere thanks guys

We visited Ryeburns of Helmsley recently for icecream. We had blackberry and rum and raisin and they were both delicious. Will definitely return.

Our B&B owner insisted we try Ryeburn's icecream so of course we complied. Unfortunately no chocolate available, so I had to settle for mint choc chip instead. The boyfriend went for a double scoop of black cherry and bubblegum ... not realising the size of the scoops. So (what a shame) I had to help him out before it all melted as we sat in the courtyard. Needless to say, after icecream overload, we didn't need any pudding later on that evening!

The best icecream I have ever tasted. There was no much choice probably because our visit took place in the heat wave but my blackberry pannacotta was superb. There is also a cafe attached to the premises.

THE most delicious ice-cream! There is an excellent array of flavours, generous portions and the staff are lovely - couldn't be more helpful & friendly. I have eaten and enjoyed a lot of ice-cream in my time, in UK and abroad, and this really takes some beating! Incredibly impressed and would highly recommend a visit when in Hemsley! Bought a take away ice cream when we discovered Ryeburn Ice Cream on a back street in Helmsley. Well worth the queue. A generous scoop of the best ice cream ever. And made in Yorkshire too. What more could you ask for? They do take home tubs and cartons too I believe.

Best. Ice cream. Ever. Chocolates are very good as well. Sat on benches in the sunshine in the courtyard and ate delicious ice-creams. A real gem of a place - the ice cream is excellent, the place is lovely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Perfect 👍

Quite simply delicious ice cream. There’s a good selection of ice creams and sorbets, the portions are generous and you can sit in the courtyard on bench seating to enjoy them. The Jaffa cake flavour had lots of thin flaky chocolate and copious orange marmalade with fruit shreds running throughout…yum! There’s a counter selling handmade chocolates and a cafe as well as the ice cream. Everything was sparkling clean.

Often you just get bits of choc in your mint choc chip but these were large chips. Hubby said the Vanilla ice cream was the best ever. We went to the shop near the long stay car park, it seems to be open a bit later than the one in town, fantastic

The best ice cream there is and we’ve had a lot! So tasty and generous portions too. Service prompt and swift. Hope to visit again when passing this way.

I popped in for a coffee during my visit to Helmsley Castle. It was good quality coffee and the service was friendly. I sat in the cafe so was asked to check in for contact tracing purposes. The QR scan didn't work as I had no signal so I had to sign in manually in a book. This was no problem to me but it is probably worth having this sign in book behind the staff counter and not left open and unattended for other visitors to see others' personal details 😊

The ice cream is the best, the flavour choice is great, last week and this week we visited on a Sunday & were served both times by a lovely chatty warm and friendly young lady, she is a credit to her employer

We happily go here all year round! Their ice creams are delicious and they have a good range of flavours. This time we were served by a really chatty young lad :) I'm sure it won't be long before we return.

We had the most delicious ice cream from here after coming back from a long walk to Riveulux Abbey. The cinder toffee flavour was unusual and delicious. Good value and even better than its local

We absolutely love the ice cream from here. The salted caramel is just the best! They always have done unusual flavours to try. We try loads of locally produced ice cream and this one is definitely the best :)

We went here after we visited the castle and it was really nice. We had a hot drink and a cake and they were really nice. The staff were very friendly, the café was very busy as they also sold ice cream as well. Would certainly go back and recommend to anyone

In the queue at Helmsley I heard someone say 'This is real homemade icecream!'. So it's a bit disappointing that Raspberry icecream has beetroot colouring, locust bean, stabilisers etc It WAS yummy, but I somehow feel it's not the 'real deal'?

My partner and I love trying different local ice creams and this is our favourite by far! Their salted caramel is out of this world. It's great that they also have a couple of gluten free cakes to choose from if you want them :) Been here a few times before and no doubt will visit many more times to come.

One of the best ice cream shops we’ve ever been to! Be prepared to queue, but it’s well worth it. Amazing choice of flavours (including all time favourites and some more inventive and daring compositions as well), really big scoops and delicious crunchy cones. The blackcurrant yoghurt is divine! Staff were friendly and helpful, they would even offer you a free sample if you’re not sure about a flavour. Free customer parking at rear is a big bonus. Highly recommended!

Been before and will definitely go again. The ice-cream here is delicious! They always have some unusual flavours to try and it's really reasonable compared to some places.

Was introduced to this place by family. I have been to Helmsley many times but did not know this was here. Marvellous food cake and ice cream and the most delicious hand made chocolates I have ever had. Lovely staff nothing was too much trouble. Will be back very soon

Very nice and allot of farm food and stuff to buy and there coffee is divine a very nice place to come and relax the staff very friendly and helpful

Th ice cream seemed to be suffering in the heat of a September day. The flavours were interesting especially the Christmas pudding one. I thought I had given them £10.00 but was assured it was £5.00.It has coloured my point of view.

Visited here for the first time with grandchildren. It was very busy, so unfortunately we couldn't see the board (which is placed on the far side of the counter and was hidden by the queue), of all the list of flavours and ice-cream combinations. I was behind another customer with children who also couldn't see the board, who was served by a blonde haired lady whom had very little patience and did a lot of eye rolling and tutting when the children couldn't immediately decide on which flavour they would like, having not seen the board! Fortunately for us I was served by a lovely young man who couldn't of been more patient. She could learn alot from him! The ice-cream was lovely. If you're not served by the blonde haired woman I would recommend it!

Called in today for a quick ice cream after visiting Helmsley Castle before the 3 mile walk back to Rievaulx Abbey. It was busy at the ice cream counter and only realised when I emptied my pockets back at home that I’d been short changed by £1.20 making it a very expensive but delicious ice cream. Oh well, these things happen but it does bug me a little. Would go back next time in Helmsley but will definitely check my change!

I took my friend and her family here due to enjoying the visit previously.Icecream and good excellent as always. Customer service was disgusting this time I’m afraid. The woman with the blonde hair and Scottish accent needs to go to charm school.My grand daughter didn’t answer her quick enough when she was asked what topping she wanted and said very abruptly “ have you not read the menu!! “ Just wow this was followed by lots of tutting and eye rolling. I said nothing due to not wanting to upset my grand children who were totally oblivious of this rude woman whilst they were being very good and polite.As I walked away with my large and expensive order the woman behind me said “oh dear, she needs to learn some manners”Another person said “ I don’t know how you didn’t say anything to her with her eyes rolling and attitude” I did try and establish who might be the owner to complain (it could be her) however they were very busy.On the upside, the man who brought our order was lovely,I have worked in the customer service industry for decades and I don’t think I’ve ever been treated like this as a customer ever!I will not be back and will discourage anyone I know until this woman learns that customers ( especially polite ones) keep her in her work and her attitude affects the business as a whole. I am really disappointed in myself for not addressing this at the time

I consider myself as an Ice Cream enthusiast who searches for different makes of ice cream and without a shadow of doubt this is the best in the noth. Anyone thinks different, I would like to try it.

Stopped here for ice cream before heading home. There was plenty to choose from and about 7 different types of cones as well. Very nice place.

After a visit to Helmsley Castle, we strolled over to the village and immediately came upon the Ryeburn ice cream shop. It was a nice way to recharge after the castle visit, and we encountered some interesting flavors that we hadn't seen before. My only small complaint is that the ice cream could have been firmer (maybe by keeping it a little colder), but it was still very nice.

We ended our day in Helmsley with a visit to Ryeburn. What delightful ice cream sundaes. My friend had the berry ice cream and I had the toffee one both were delicious. I'll be back to try other sundaes.

I love icecream so just had to try out this nice cafe. The rhubarb sorbet was truly lovely if you don't have a very sweet tooth. I also tried the fig and mascarpone and the ?caramel crunchie which were also very good.

Called in for bite to eat on a gentle day out in Helmsley. The food is freshly cooked and of good value. A good range on offer if you're looking for quick bite to eat.

The variety on offer here allows for any sort of whim or fancy. The staff were lovely, even though they were very busy due to the surprisingly good weather and the ice-cream was delicious, I cannot fault it. Wonderful.

Been here loads of times now and never fails to impress. Their ice cream is just the best! I had the lemon curd and cherry this time and both were sublime!

We've been here a couple of times before and are never disappointed! The lemon curd ice cream was sublime. I also had the pistachio, almond and honey and that was also amazing! It was a lovely treat at the end of a long walk.

I came here on a school trip over the summer term, the teacher hyped up the cafe as a server of the food of the gods. When we got here, the staff treated us with kindness and respect despite the rowdiness of my classmates. While they were treating themselves to ice cream, I ordered myself an espresso. The coffee was average and was no different to what any cafe in the country could serve. However, every food item looked delectable and if i was a tad more peckish, i believe my time would be more enjoyable.

I am an ice cream fanatic - I will actively seek out ice cream wherever we find ourselves on holiday - and yes, I have sampled ice cream in Italy many many times - but what a find the ice cream at Ryeburn of Helmsley is!

Nice coffee, delicious cakes and family friendly. It goes a long way when staff speak directly to my grandchildren. They thoroughly enjoyed the icecreams.

We'd enjoyed a Sunday roast elsewhere in Helmsley and wanted to have a stroll and then enjoy a dessert. We decided to try this ice cream parlour and enjoyed it very much. Other things are served as well as ice cream but this is their speciality, obviously award winning, very healthy quantities, really well presented both in the glasses, on the tables and in the building. The prices are premium and fine for a treat.

Best ice creams ever fullstop!! We can't drive through Helmsley without treating ourselves. Always get 2 scoops each of different flavours. None have disappointed. Look forward to another visit soonx

Friendly service and amazing ice cream at a reasonable price - we tried 5 different flavours -banana was our favourite. They also did teas and snacks.

Located in Otterburn Lane...just out of the main Helmsley car park. The menu here is extensive with beautiful home made food including lunches of roast beef & Yorkshire pudding, lovely sandwiches, home made cakes & scones to indulge yourself and so much more before heading into the Market Place a few minutes walk away. BUT the crowning highlight is some award winning Ryeburn Ice Cream and Sorbet with dozens of flavours to choose from. My personal favourite is Gin & Tonic Sorbet...to die for.

What a gorgeous café in this lovely village: a real gem. Coffee was good and I had a luscious slice of chocolate cake. Clean and smart. Not quite ice cream time for myself but they looked excellent

So many different flavours & you can pick & mix to suit. I call here wenever in the area just for an icecream. Cannot recommend highly enough. Fantastic service, spoilt for chouce & it not cost over the top. £2.60 for a tub brimming over with gorgous creamy icecream. Chose death by chocolate today & was not dissapointed. Big chunks of choccy thats melts in ya mouth. The tub is also a good size & well worth your money. Not a tiny tub where yiu feel let down. Forget the diet its worth it

I don’t usually like ice cream but this ice cream is delicious. Fabulous flavours, really creamy.....best ice cream I have ever tasted.

At the age of 60, I have eaten a lot of ice cream in my time. Ryburn offers such a large selection, it is difficult to choose which to have. I had vanilla ice cream with blackberry sorbet - WOW! The flavour is stunning.

Excellent choice of ice cream flavours which you can have in one of several type of cone or in a mini tub for one person. This is our guilty treat in the summer when going for a walk around Helmsley :)

Been to Helmsley lots of times and frustrated that I never discovered this little gem before. Lovely staff, super cakes and hot drinks, ice cream that is probably the best I've ever tasted and home made chocolates. Now you tell me, what more could you wish for?

Enjoyed our experience here very much. Food was good as was the service, would go again and would recommend a diet first because I put on weight because the food was so good. Would go back.

Stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon in late September. Staff person was friendly. Enjoyed the coffee and cakes. A nice little place; will keep in mind for future visits to Helmsley. They had some delicious looking ice creams, too.

The ice cream (all flavours) do not disappoint. Always a good selection and always very moreish. Not the cheapest but definitely quality and if you decide to use the cafe too I can highly recommend the hot chocolate and the tea. A very popular venue

I am a keen walker and many years ago I walked the Cleveland Way National Trail which starts here in Helmsley. I am also a real dairy icecream afficianado, if i get the chance I like to try out the local offerings. so this was a marriage made in heaven, although today i was only a day tripper, not a long distance walker , it was still a tempting opportunity too good to miss out on a warm sunny day. Plenty of different flavours on offer, and the icecream was scrummy, This establishment is a bit tucked away from the busy market square and main street, but well worth seeking out.

Couldn't speak more highly of this place if I tried! My partner and I visit all the time as we like a trip out to Helmsley on the motorbike and our trip is never complete without an ice cream from here!I have recommended to everyone I know as it is just so good. The ice cream flavour selection is expansive even on cold winter days, and the staff are always helpful and couldn't be more friendly. I've also sat inside the cafe and had a hot chocolate, they are to die for, as well as the sundaes, they are huge so very good value! If you're in Helmsley, a Ryeburn ice cream is a must!

After visiting Helmsley Castle we called into this lovely cafe for an ice cream. The ice cream tastes so good. There is so much choice & excellent prices. The staff are so friendly & helpful. Would definitely come here again & absolutely recommend.

Great ice cream. Plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. Staff were very helpful giving us advice and directions to another local destination. Ice cream was exceptionally good and had great flavour.

Had a butterscotch small tub of ice cream and it was delicious and a bargain at £1.50. Friendly service. Sat outside in the sunshine. I will be back.

Had a small tub of pannacotta and blueberry ice cream. The price £1.50 is excellent value for beautiful ice cream. Sat outside in the courtyard as the sunshine was warm. Staff efficient and friendly. Recommend and cannot wait to go again.

The ham salad is a treat we enjoy, with the excellent thick sliced lovely ham. We can always manage an ice cream from the very large range of flavours.

Wonderful and unusual fllavours along with old favourites - a great assortment on display and well worth the money for a double scoop. We bought ones to take away and sit by the trickling brook as it was a gorgeous day but the cafe itself looked lovely as an ice-cream parlour. They were busy but service at the ice-cream counter was with a smile, quick & efficient but at the same time unhurried for those children who simply couldn't believe how many flavours there were. I can thoroughly recommend the "Death by Chocolate" one though.

Stopped off for coffee break. Ordered tea cake and decaf-latte coffee. Tea cake cut into slices, spread with butter and served with a small chocolate piece. Reasonably priced. Before leaving was tempted to purchase a few hand-made chocolates. Oh what heaven.Check out their web site for Easter and Christmas selections

What can I say... great ice cream from this place, pleasant staff and friendly service. Some strange flavours to try and very tasty ice cream. I will be going back to try some of the other flavours. I had the liquorice and forest fruits, beautiful!

Gorgeous ice cream which comes in lots of whacky flavours. Really friendly staff and great atmosphere. Can't wait for summer so more ice cream can be consumed.

Such a choice of ice creams that it is difficult to choose. Service is most friendly and helpful - we try to visit every time we visit Helmsley. The chocolates are a treat to take home and are made on site.The restaurant is tucked away on the route to the large car park and serves excellent snacks with a smile quickly served. There is plenty of room for all.

I called in for an ice cream, but while there were two counters full of lovely looking ice cream to tempt you, two flavours really stood out. I asked the young lady on the counter which she would recommend and she described both to me and told me she favoured the triple chocolate over the gin. Before I could agree, she wanted me to be happy with my choice so gave me a sample of each to try! Fantastic service - and she was right, the triple chocolate was the best ice cream I have had in a long time. I also bought some cherry and chocolate too, which was really good as well, and the two generous scoops in my tub set me up for the afternoons work. Great ice cream, and excellent service - wish I lived closer!

This place is an ice cream heaven! They are absolutely delicious, every singe flavour, even the ones that I do not usually like. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. This time we also tried bacon sandwiches and they were yummy. Chocolates looked yummy as well - will try some next time. This is one of our favourite places!

My friend and I were walking through the country side during quite the rainstorm. We saw this ice cream parlor as we were coming into town. We knew immediately we needed to stop for ice cream before anything else. They were super nice (even though we looked like drowned rats) and let us taste a bunch of flavors. We got two scoops each and never regretted a single bite. Happiness.

This is our favourite tearoom in North Yorkshire and one we have visited regularly over the last few years. Why do we come here so often? Fantastic service....great hospitality...lovely food/coffee......delicious ice cream.....and of course their chocolates.....oh my ...so good! Over the years we have always received a warm welcome from Christine and Richard and all their staff....in particular Holly, Tracy, Lee, Elise and now Millie.Many thanks to you all and a very Merry Christmas! My husband and I called into the ice cream parlour after visiting Helmsley Castle. I love ice cream and have eaten a lot in my life time but the tub of jaffa cake ice cream I had was exquisite, the best ice cream I've ever had. There were lots of different flavours which I suppose I should try on another visit but I shall find it hard to resist the jaffa cake flavour.

So very many choices ...so little time to choose but gin and lavender does it for me .Cant wait to try their Christmas ice cream when next back in Helmsley .Temptation comes in bucket loads in this shop and their handmade chocolate are worth their money too and bought a couple of the chocolate shoes for friends, who were highly delighted with their gifts

Stopped for ice-creams after walking to Rievaulx and back. Totally amazing - loads of flavours and very generous sizes scoops at great prices. Wished we come every week but the 400 miles round trip wouldn't be practical!

Love this quirky place, the children and I go regularly and we have never been disappointed. The blood orange sorbet is to die for!I can honestly say they have the best ice cream and there will always be a flavour you like as there are so many to choose from.Just FABULOUS!

I only wanted three double waffle cone ice creams, each of a single flavour .... coffee, strawberry and fig. The assistant dished up the first cone with one coffee and one strawberry scoop ... hardly single flavour!!! Pointed this out, she clearly had not been listening .. she then became quite huffy. Anyway eventually got what ordered but then couldn't leave the place and I couldn't open the door .... alas I then broke one of the cones. I went back to the assistant who abruptly said, ' you should have asked for help' .. perhaps she could have been a bit more considerate ... so don't go there if you are disabled!I asked for the ice-cream to be placed on a new cone and the next thing I know is she wanted another £2.40 ..... I said I have just wanted a new cone and for the ice-cream I'd already purchased to be placed on it ..... she then shirtily stated she'd dropped the ice cream .. not my fault .....I have never met a staff member so abrupt, huffy, unhelpful, failing to listen and try and understand the issues ...No wonder the cafe was almost empty despite being mid afternoon on a Sunday.Plenty of really good places in Helmsley to go .. avoid rye burn.

Spoilt for choice is the only problem! There are approximately two dozen. The quality, creaminess, and intense flavours are just some of the positive points about Ryeburn ice cream. From the generous waffle cones to the rich fruity ice cream. You just have to have two scoops so that you can experience two different flavours. Try the liquorice and fruits of the forest. Divine and at £2.40 good value

THE best ice cream I think I've ever tasted and I've tasted a lot! The ice cream parlour had about 20 flavours on offer and over our stay we tried a few flavours (well would have been rude not too) Our favourite was the Nutty Ella which you guessed it tasted like Nutella...very Praline like, we also tried the Strawberry Cheesecake, Death by Chocolate, Turkish Delight, Banoffee and Rasberry and Toffee Meringue all very very nice! Good job I'm not local that's for sure

Great choice of flavours from gin & lavender to bumble gum . Generous portions with a variety of cones to chose from.Found the ambience of the tearoom rather dated & the outside courtyard not a place we wished to linger. Do not let that deter you from visiting well worth a trip just for a take out treat in the market square.

We have visited the tea rooms several times previously. Today we decided to have a sandwich and ice cream sundae. The sundaes first. Previously we have had sundaes and had generous scoops of ice cream and toppings. Today a two scoop sundae was ordered that arrived excellently presented with scrumptious ice cream and plenty of it. The three scoop sundae arrived, it too looked scrumptious. The ice cream was great but there seemed to be less ice cream than the two scoop. Upon speaking to the staff it transpired my third flavour was hidden at the bottom. Well I had literally two tea spoons of the third flavour, really disappointed especially as it cost almost £5. Not impressed!!!!!I think it depends on which staff member does the scooping.I saw someone else get far more than I did for less costOn the other hand the lamb sandwich was excellent and very moreish. The bacon, Brie and cranberry baguette was also fantastic and would recommend it.The staff overall are friendly, especially the young lad who is engaging, chatting and welcoming.Despite my poor portion size (yes I am an ice cream lover), we would definitely go again.The ice cream itself is delicious, with many flavours to choose from, e.g. Jaffa cake, Turkish delight, rub barb crumble, strawberry cheesecake and fig with mascarpone to name but a few.

This is our local ice cream parlour and I only discovered it after a friend bought me a gift voucher for my birthday. Since then we have been regular customers, I am an ice creamaholic and have eaten them all over the world and Ryeburn Salted Caramel is the best!

Visited here a couple of times now and the ice cream is top notch.Eaten ice cream everywhere but never this good. Must be 20 or 30flavours to choose' Death by chocolate is my favourite but there is so much choice, salted caramel, bubblegum,rhubarb and custard, strawberry cheesecake, mango' to name a few. Also a selection of cones too. 5 ☆☆☆☆☆

Such a good variety of ice creams. Especially like the different chocolate pieces such as owls and rabbits. Will be returning soon.

We have been regular visitors for over 10 years and have always found the tearoom clean and the service excellent. However, on a recent visit, we were disappointed that, given the increasing rise in gluten intolerance, there is still no offering of gluten free food in the tearoom. Come on folks - this is 2016. It is not difficult!!
