There were queues in front of this shop before it was opened on Saturday. We came back at a later time and could not be seated. Therefore, we took out some brownies, lemon cake, ans coffee. They were all delicious.

Thought the food was great. It’s BYO alcohol, my friend had a bottle of wine and they said there was a £3 corkage fee. There were 4 of us, they brought 4 glasses, one of us doesn’t like wine, but had just the tiniest taste. When we got the bill, they charged £3 EACH, £12 to drink our own wine. This really detracted from things. The service was a bit hit and miss too, they’d clear 2 people’s plates away, but wouldn’t come back to collect the other two’s til much later. Shame we had that experience, because the food was really nice
The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge is an absolute gem, offering a warm welcome, stunning views, and top-notch food in a truly unique setting. Nestled high on the North York Moors, this historic inn provides breathtaking scenery that adds to the charm of the experience. Whether visiting for a hearty meal, a drink by the fire, or an overnight stay, it never disappoints.
The atmosphere is everything you’d want from a traditional country pub—cosy, inviting, and full of character. The roaring fire creates the perfect setting in colder months, while the outdoor seating area is ideal for enjoying the spectacular views on a sunny day. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always go the extra mile to make you feel at home.
The food is outstanding, with generous portions and a great selection of home-cooked classics. The steak and ale pie is a must-try, packed with flavour and served with perfectly crisp chips. The Sunday roasts are equally impressive, offering tender meats and all the trimmings. A great selection of ales complements the menu perfectly.
Whether you’re a walker, biker, or just passing through, The Lion Inn is a must-visit. It’s a truly special place, and I can’t wait to return!

We initially booked on a 1 night break including evening meal and the next day breakfast and lunch but added a 2nd night on. You also get use of the swimming pool, gym and sauna. You can pay extra for the rooftop spa which includes things like relaxation rooms, jacuzzi and another swimming pool. The whole hotel had a traditional but also modern feel to it. It's very plush and everything was is good order, nothing run down like some hotels. The spa wasn't too busy, just right. The staff can't do enough for you, taking your luggage from the car and parking your car, taking your luggage to your room. They even had a driver take us to the driving range, we then walked back as the sun came back, probably 5-10 mins. The room has a fridge and minibar which most items extra charges which there is a price list so if its not on there I presume is complimentary such as the little bottle of milk. The TV in the room is smart and has chrome cast so we could cast Netflix from our phone to the TV. WIFI is complimentary. The food in all restaurants was all really good, we received £38 each towards evening meal, the 2nd night the deal was £50 each. Two alcoholic drinks in the spa was £22 so pricey. It is an expensive hotel, but you get what you pay for, the service is the best we've experienced, the amenities on offer are great and it's decorated very nicely.
We visited the hotel and restaurant for an evening dinner and overnight stay. The service was exceptional throughout. The food lived up to expectations and each course was a taste sensation. The hotel room was quaint and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! You need deep pockets and if you go with that in mind I’ll guarantee you’ll have a first class dining experience.
I so wish I had discovered this absolute gem earlier in my trip. Everything about it is lovely. The setting, with the huge art-deco windows, is perfect for a start. The menu is adventurous, adding twists to standards. My full English, for example, came stacked in a toasted ciabatta and was lovely. ( £9). But I could easily have opted for the Middle Eastern tomato and egg Shakshuka (£10), a croque madame (baked ham and cheese with bechamel sauce with an egg on top) or a rarebit 'pimped up with crispy bacon'. (£10.50). A pot of real Yorkshire tea (£2.40) washed it nicely down. Much else to eat too, including an impressive specials board. Something for everyone, for sure, reflected by the client base. Families, young folk, older couples and workmen at the end of their night shift.
It's all very informal and undoubtedly my favourite eatery in the town
