Lovely building & pleasant rooms. Dinner -I thought the food was overpriced for the quality.Fillet steak a bit chewy. Mackerel pate starter was a dessert spoon of pate with a piece of undercooked mackerel. Dessert again disappointing. Tiny slice of pineapple with tasteless ice cream & some coconut.shavings & walnuts. I could easy produce similar at home. Service was good & coffee &petit fours were nice. Overall - bit pretentious & overpriced meal.

Must have changed the Chef, I had ham egg chips and peas, one of the 2 egg was burnt couldn’t eat it, and the chips were well over done, I complained they offered me another egg that I didn’t want because I had finished, and then a ice cream, ( I don’t like ice cream ) all I got was a SORRY!!!!!

Arriving into an enormous car park and a brick building you feel a bit underwhelmed. BUT after check-in you enter the main hall and the fantastic gardens and all is well. The gardens are beautiful. Well tended and large. With knotted hedge work, oaks, ducks, rabbits and other wildlife. It is a great garden. The staff are courteous and chatty. The bar staff were particularly welcoming. The rooms are spacious and clean, could do with some real coffee for my liking, but better than most. Comfortable beds and decent sized bathroom. I did not have a garden view so cannot comment on that. There was a lot of noise from the plumbing but it was acceptable. The sound of birds in the morning was lovely and provided a better alarm than the phone. Food, both the meal in the evening and the fantastic breakfast was top notch. A great hotel in an amazing location.

A really switched on crew on Saturday (nice guy and his trainee); less so Sunday where, despite me having 3 glasses of wine, they insisted on charging me full price each instead of for a cheaper whole bottle. The lift is really slow, so much so there's a sign in the lift to make you aware 😁! Reception is on floor 4. The main entrance is a modest little doorway.

Poor Preparation lead to a Piss Poor Performance! Meals at The Granary used to be fantastic, the venue used to be immaculate and you would always receive excellent customer service. My visit today with my family was totally the opposite, in fact it was disgraceful. My parents booked as it was my grandfather’s 85th birthday and we as a family were expecting the same standards that we had experienced here previously. Our booking had been made a few weeks prior yet the organisation and preparation was disgraceful. Upon arrival we were shown to our tables in the restaurant, nobody else was in the restaurant except our party and a table of three (this should’ve rang alarm bells as it was 1pm on a Sunday). Once we were seated it was obvious that no attention to detail had been taken in presenting the table, basic items such as napkins were missing. We were expecting someone to take our drinks order and were then told, “there’s the table water, if you want any other drinks you can go to the bar” The starters were served, soup was luke warm. Main course arrived with vegetables placed upon the table and again, luke warm. One of our guests was 4 years old and was left without a meal, not one single member of staff used their initiative to investigate why he hadn’t got a meal. It was only when a member of staff was informed that the meal was missing they sorted it. (This is basic stuff!) A portion of peas had been requested via email and telephone with one of the meals, this was missing! Even after informing staff at the start of the main course the peas never materialised (peas take 2-4 minutes in a microwave from frozen) Towards the end of the main meal one of the guests noticed that the stuffing was missing from the roast chicken dinners, the member of staffs response was “oh yeah the chef left it on the side and forgot about it” Deserts were served and the apple crumble and custards were cold! The party leader was assured at the end of the meal that the manager would be informed and they will be in touch, lets hope this happens. Overall our experience was awful and to say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement.

Previously had good experiences here but arrived last Sunday at 11.32am and wanted breakfast and was told we were 2 minutes late to order. No offer of toast or anything savoury, only cakes available before 12pm. The attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. Suffice to say we walked out and went to Cherry Lane, who have no such policy. We got there at around 11.45am, which was too late for breakfast but we ordered from the lunchtime menu. No issues at all. Not entirely sure why they need to close the kitchen for 30 minutes in between breakfast & lunch, Cherry Lane seemed to manage perfectly well. Not only did the cafe miss out on our custom, the garden centre did too as we bought all of our plants from Cherry Lane as well. Unfortunate as we like HodgeHill but it will be quite a while before we return.
