Poor Preparation lead to a Piss Poor Performance! Meals at The Granary used to be fantastic, the venue used to be immaculate and you would always receive excellent customer service. My visit today with my family was totally the opposite, in fact it was disgraceful. My parents booked as it was my grandfather’s 85th birthday and we as a family were expecting the same standards that we had experienced here previously. Our booking had been made a few weeks prior yet the organisation and preparation was disgraceful. Upon arrival we were shown to our tables in the restaurant, nobody else was in the restaurant except our party and a table of three (this should’ve rang alarm bells as it was 1pm on a Sunday). Once we were seated it was obvious that no attention to detail had been taken in presenting the table, basic items such as napkins were missing. We were expecting someone to take our drinks order and were then told, “there’s the table water, if you want any other drinks you can go to the bar” The starters were served, soup was luke warm. Main course arrived with vegetables placed upon the table and again, luke warm. One of our guests was 4 years old and was left without a meal, not one single member of staff used their initiative to investigate why he hadn’t got a meal. It was only when a member of staff was informed that the meal was missing they sorted it. (This is basic stuff!) A portion of peas had been requested via email and telephone with one of the meals, this was missing! Even after informing staff at the start of the main course the peas never materialised (peas take 2-4 minutes in a microwave from frozen) Towards the end of the main meal one of the guests noticed that the stuffing was missing from the roast chicken dinners, the member of staffs response was “oh yeah the chef left it on the side and forgot about it” Deserts were served and the apple crumble and custards were cold! The party leader was assured at the end of the meal that the manager would be informed and they will be in touch, lets hope this happens. Overall our experience was awful and to say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement.

Understaffed. the service was uncoordinated but staff did their best and were pleasant and helpful. The Sunday Carvery was disappointing and a waste of money.. Vegetables - quantity rather than quality. Pork tough and stringy. Tasteless pizza was the only vegetarian option. Sweets were poor - apart from the ice cream No latte or hot chocolate - machine broken. No atmosphere to speak of. We won't be going back.

Today we went to the granary restaurant for a meal booked weeks ago. We went last year and had a great meal but this year was totally opposite to that experience. The starter not as described 😕 the carvery warm and over seasoned and the dessert a total disaster. My husband and I order spiced apple crumble and custard which after wanting 20 minutes for our main plates to be cleared and having to ask for our desserts they arrived and were served happily by the waitress with a thick skin on the custard... obviously having sat under a heat lamp for as long as we had waited for them . I sent them back to then have cold crumble and colder custard 😡 the waitress obviously hadn’t even noticed which is astonishing really. Why would you even serve that ? Then to add insult we never got a dessert ... asked to speak to a manager and we get a guy in casual clothes that wasn’t the manager but owner.... why because the manager didn’t want to speak to us . We were not the only table to have the same issue. The waitresses managing the tables did a poor job in making sure things ran smoothly so we can only assume they didn’t feel the need to. We were not asked if the meal was ok , if we wanted drinks or if we had enough water... this is the basics of any restaurant and as I’m a chef I really do know . So sorry but I won’t be recommending the granary or going again ... ever !

We chose the granary for a Christmas meal after going last year and something has changed... for the worse! Meals from the carvery were barely lukewarm, roast potatoes and parsnips were soggy, gravy was watery. Dessert of Christmas pudding had to be sent back as it hadn’t been heated properly and was rock hard as well as cold. Grim. Won’t be booking it next year!

Meats were all cold. Gravy was luke warm and unpleasant. Only vegetables were carrots and rock hard broccoli. We had to wait ages until we could even visit the carvery as nothing was ready. They also ran out of both ales on offer. Starters and puddings were fine. I'll not be returning.

We have visited this restaurant and booked dinner with Santa for that past 5 years , I have never had a bad word to say until today. Absolutely horrendous from start to finish , a Magician who attended every year did not show up and when questioned the manager said he wasn’t answering his phone??? Kids were truly disappointed and so were the adults. Poor service, cold food, cramped room , ran out of Pepsi at the bar, ran out of food on the carvery, chefs not knowing if food coming out to top up , starters served all over the place, and deserts not brought out and when they eventually did arrive the kids ice creams were melted to a paste. We declined them In The end and just left. For a pre booked meal where there is only one seating how can they get it so wrong ?? Waiter servers not knowing where they are meant to be, no confidence in their work and no presentatation with courses- just plonked on the table. Historically the granary has been faultless for us but this time it was the worst service and venue we have ever attended. We do not stand alone with this complaint everyone who we spoke to were also so very dissatisfied, when speaking to the floor manager he was unable to offer any substantial reason for such a poor show. If a manager can not organise a pre planned event then what hope do you have in achieving a service that you have paid for and so rightly deserve. People were refusing to pay the balance for the meals ,however I had paid my party balance in full pre arrival therefore my request for a refund will be answered by phone call within 24 hours after the manager discusses these concerns with the director “ Khalid Zaman”. I’m a little concerned regarding this name as when I searched on companies house the directors are Mohammed Salim, shaida Zaman and Abdul Salam and no evidence of a Khalid Zaman ?? We will see . I am not one to complain, if you look back on the granary reviews I have left fabulous ones that were deserved, today it was awful and actually ruined our Christmas celebrations that we look forward to all year .

I can truly say that it was about the worst meal I have ever been served in a restaurant. A party with friends. The melon starter was so under-ripe it was inedible. The Yorkshire puddings with the beef were like cardboard (over-microwaved?) and the beef dry and leathery. It brought to mind the very worst of school food. I was going to be charged the full 25GBP per person but on objecting had this reduced to 22GBP because of the inedible starter.

The restauarant has definitely gone down hill in the last year. Lots of people must agree with me because what used to be a very busy restaurant on a weekday lunchtime was very quiet when I visited recently. The carvery used to be a star attraction so it is unclear why this is now only available on a Sunday. When we visited there was a "roast of the day" available but the quality of this was nothing special. More than one table complained about the quality of the roast turkey.

This used to be our favorite restaurant, but I presume at change of ownership, certainly a change of staff and a lower standard of food this place has really gone down hill. We used a Groupon and normally the food was sublime in the past but was very disappointed, what has happened to the fine dining?, burgers, fish and chips would never have been on the menu in the past, no choice of purchasing homemade breads with balsamic, and flavoured butters? Just a brown roll plonked on your table. Unsurprisingly the Saturday Wed ate there there the restaurant was more than half empty were in the past it was always full.

They serve a different menu to the the one online. It was very limited, 2 meat dishes, 2 fish dishes and 1 vegetarian. The salt and vinegar potatoes are extremely overpowering and spoilt the cod completely. The meat dishes don't have much in the way of veg. We all had difficulty finding food we wanted. The staff are polite, but very sparse, the service isn't speedy. The decor and ambiance are great, but do little to improve lack of choice and slow service. We won't be going there again.

We had a Travel Zoo voucher which we paid £35 for (2 persons - 3 course meal). It stated we could choose a starter upto value £7.50, desert upto value £7.50 and mains upto £17.50 - anything over that we would have to pay a supplement. That seemed very fair to us. However when we arrived at 6.30 on Friday evening the restaurant was empty apart from another couple. The waitress came to us almost immediately to take our drinks order - good sign we thought, how wrong we were. We were given the "menu" - well it was a fixed price menu and for 3 courses it was £24.95p. We asked for the al a carte menu but were advised they only had the "set menu". Very disappointing. Straightaway we realised the Travel Zoo voucher was NOT VALUE FOR MONEY. It was a cold night and the restaurant was nice and warm. However there was no atmosphere at all. Our order was taken. We had bread plates and a knife but no bread roll. We were not offered a bread roll. We were not asked if we would like water for the table either ! Our starters arrived. Very nice but just too small - we probably had one table spoon each of garlic mushrooms. Our mains arrived. I had chicken because the menu was so limited. My husband had steak. The best thing about both mains was my husband's home made big chunky chips. He said the steak was ok - hardly any fat on it but there was just no taste ! His meal had a £3 supplement. I asked for a bread roll and they just brought one for me - not one for my husband - he was not even asked if he would like one - very poor service indeed. Deserts - I had chocolate fondant which incurred a £2 supplement and my husband had cheese board this also had a £2 supplement. Both presented nicely and were ok but not great. The Travel Zoo coupon referred to al a carte and also two different steak meals which were included in the deal. These were not even on the menu. The only steak on the menu had a £3 supplement as mentioned above. By the time we were ready to leave around 10 more diners had arrived - for such a big restaurant and on a Friday night that was quite sad to see. We assume that previous diners were not returning - we will not be returning either. To be totally honest if we had just booked without a coupon - on seeing the menu we would not have stopped. The food choice and quality was just about average and not value for money at £25 per head. When I leave a review I try to give the most accurate and honest review I can so others can make their own choice. Hope this helps. Thank you.

We had pre booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch. Shown to table and had to wait 5/10 minutes for waiter to take drinks order, then another 5/10 minutes for menus, another 5/10 minutes for order to be taken, starters arrived, great food but then an age for plates to be cleared, then nearly 30 minutes before asking if two non carvery fish dishes were ready, obviously ours had been forgotten about as other people who had ordered after us were served with their food sooner, food was extremely good but service appalling, when we advised the manager of the poor service and asked for the bill, I checked it and had been overcharged by approximately £17, this was then sorted out and we were given vouchers for free dessert next time which was a bit pointless as non of us choose to have dessert. Manager also tried to blame reception staff for booking too many tables for 1pm on a Sunday, surely this must be one of the most popular days and times and they should be able to manage to cope with this unless they want a half empty restaurants! Not a great experience.

We have been to the Granary before and thought it was a nice intimate restaurant. However, on this occasion I have to say it was a disaster. The restaurant was not full at the time we arrived at 18.45pm and we were onto the main course before other customers arrived. We ordered the scallops and the Thai fishcakes. The scallops were tiny and could have sworn we were in a minimalist cuisine restaurant! The Thai fishcakes were bland and tiny. We then ordered the pan fried halibut and I had a rib eye steak. The halibut arrived and was dripping with water, the skin soggy. I sent it back. I was left with my steak in front of me for at least 10 minutes so I called the maitre 'd over and explained that I had brought my wife out for a meal and wished to actually eat together and not me eat mine whilst waiting for my wife's to be cooked properly. He apologised but never took mine away. I had to tell him to take mine away and bring both dishes back together so we could eat together. The food arrived after approx another 10 minutes. Mine was now missing the water cress garnish and the steak was only three quarters of the size of the first one. It was clear that the night could not get any better. We ate what we wanted and left the rest. The desert was surprisingly "as described". The maitre 'd put a quarter bottle of red wine on the table and did not charge us for the 2 drinks from the bar by way of compensation. It is not about the freebies we were offered it is about the quality of food that comes out of the kitchen and the ambience that makes for a good evening. Unfortunately for us it was a complete disaster. We also noted that there were none of the original staff in the restaurant! I am not in the habit of leaving bad feedback and always try to add a positive note. My feedback reflects our true experience on our visit on 2/3/19.

We have visited the granary many times over the years and the food and service has always been top quality but we recently went for a wedding anniversary. The service - after been told there was no steak ( which 5 out of the 6 of us was going to order) came the taking the piss out of one of the guest accents , then asking for cider been brought bitter, then over sharing from the waiter about how he'd got his wife pregnant. People wanted starters then been told there was one or none of said stater.some of the starters where cold. Main course - no steak, one of are guest had to change his order twice due to them not having enough. Burger was over cooked and dry with no sauce, the lamb was tasteless. Desserts - apple pie, I've had better aunt Bessie's, and one of them was cold, one of the ice creams tasted of pure marzipan. Coffees after been told they didn't do mocha (it's on the menu) we where charged for them.

What a disappointment! We came to a 70th birthday meal here two and a half years ago and it was amazing. We recommended it to all our friends. This week we came with a Groupon voucher. We had a main course and a dessert. We were the only diners at first and even we we left there were only 9 in the restaurant, so we couldn't understand why we waited nearly 40 minutes for our meal. The plates were not particularly hot which might explain why the mushroom was cold, the tomatoes lukewarm, and the rather dry steak only just warm. The chips were piping hot. My husband doesn't like vinegar so was disappointed that the onions had been soaked in vinegar before being coated in batter to make onion rings. No one came to ask if we needing anything-we had to ask for mustard.

The dining room was cold & empty & we were offered a table in the middle of the room by the main door which I refused and was offered another table. We were told the menu was new that night. Nothing like the one shown on the www or even in the hotel's bedrooms. No 3 course fixed menu but a selection of some pub grub type meals and expensive starters and steaks. Wine list - I chose the least expensive - Sauvignon Blanc but amazingly they had "run out". I ended up paying for 2 glasses of a dearer and less enjoyable alternative. We had two posh (enjoyable ) starters, 2 small cod and chips and one dessert. Price - £75?

We have come to the Granary for the last 5 yrs or more for a party of 10 or more. We have never experienced anything like what we have tonight. We pre-ordered our meals but this didn't help. The menu description and what turned up was totally different. The parna ham, melon and feta salad had no parma ham! When it was sent back, a waitress turned up with a tray of parma ham saying "the chef apologises but he forgot to dress the ham!?" Half the starters looked like they had been forgotten about with the duck breast and game chips turning up to be 2 overcooked lumps of duck with a separate dish of salt and vinegar crisps! Half the mains didn't turn up and those that did were wrong, cold or in the case of the steak, looked liked charcoal stewing steak, and waitress said they were medium rare. Rude and unhelpful staff didn't help the situation. When a couple of the party complained about the matter (in a separate room away from everyone) we were then left with half eaten plates of food, and completely left alone so ended up finshing the night early, feeling hungry and going home. Unbelievably disappointed and won't be returning

I have put a good review of this carvery in the past but our last visit was very disappointing. We regularly take our young grandchildren to a carvery as they enjoy them and food its nutritious. The granary was the most expensive we went to but its about going to different ones and happy to pay the extra. Last visit we were charged £11 each for a three and four year old to have obviously at their age a very small meal and one scoop of ice cream each which was all we asked for. I assume it wasnt because they dont want the children there again as one waitresses commented on their excellent behaviour which it was!! They may have made a substantial profit on the£22 pounds we were charged but we will never go again with or without children nor will friends some of whom went regularly. We are always happy to pay what it costs but being ripped off means we vote with our feet!!

I can only hope it was a blip.Service was prompt, polite and friendly. The food was excellent and enjoyable, wine choice is always good.My wife loves the little chocolates that always follow ( well except once, but i won't go on about that). My usual, local restaurant is back on top, i will continue to eat here. Will i eat here again.- see above.

We both chose the carvery and it was very good and a good price. Great service. We went for lunch in the week and noticed it was mainly occupied by elderly ladies, so not really our type of atmosphere.

I visit the Granary at least once a month with a group of ladies for the lunch time carvery. The food is always excellent, staff are polite and efficient. The decor is very pleasing so all in all a lovely place to visit. One grumble is that the plates are so small for the carvery. I don't have a particular big appetite but even the small portions I put myself have to be piled on top of each another because there is no room on the plate. It can be very off putting when the meal looks such a mess! Maybe the management think if the plates were bigger people would be too greedy but I don't think this would be so as the lunch time clientele are all elderly retired people who don't like huge meals. Another option would be to give people the choice of a larger plate and make an extra charge.

The chef at The Granary clearly has very high standards and this is shown through the food that is sent out of the kitchen. We ate from a three course set menu, which offered a good choice, and was cooked to perfection.

We booked this on a Groupon Deal being new to the area. Efficient friendly staff and a great and tasty 2 course meal with wine. Disappointed that the garden was closed to a wedding party something we were not advised of when we booked. The outside kerb appeal was poor and could do with some hanging. Assets and planters to the restaurant entrance and a good sweep. Otherwise a good evening out.

On first impressions when you arrive at this tucked away hotel and restaurant is not great, it looks tired and like an average motel however the interior of the restaurant is tastefully finished, the staff are very polite, helpful and friendly and there is a small lounge where you can have a drink before being seated. We were taking advantage of a groupon offer which was a three course meal from the set menu with a glass of wine. While perusing the menu we had warm breads (made on the premises) two types of butter, balsamic/oil dip and a bowl of olives with drinks. My partner had Asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise sauce, the only criticism being the egg was hard. I had gravadlax which was thin slices of raw salmon cured in strawberry juice, both dishes well presented and very tasty. We both opted for the slow roast belly of lamb, dauphinoise potatoes, carrots and a wine sauce with a side order of spring cabbage in bacon and a cream sauce. Very hot, the lamb just fell apart it was a very satisfying meal with a very large portion of meat. They do have an a la carte menu which appears to be very good although a touch pricey for the type of hotel it is.Dessert, I had a goats cheese with ginger, soaked peaches and assorted crumbs, my partner had rhubarb panna cotta with a herb ice cream, panna cotta wasn't brilliant but rest of dessert was good. All in all the dishes were served promptly or they would hold back at your request, they were presented very well, all hot meals were hot, the staff were very friendly and left you to your meal only interrupting to clear away your plates.

Saturday night wedding function, 60th birthday celebration and private diners. The evening went well and our private party of 4 was not affected in any way on a very busy evening for all staff. Food was excellent and the set menu was very good value.Only a small gripe but like most restaurants not enough coffee but the petit fours were a nice touch. Enough parking, friendly staff and look forward to see if they do a summer set menu.

During a stay at the hotel we ate at the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We took advantage of the 3 courses for £15.50 offer and every course was delicious, the only issue was how filling it was! Very good and polite service and a nice atmosphere in the restaurant, I'd definitely recommend.

Copy of complaint letter.Dear Sir / Madam My wife and I generally eat with you at least once a month, as you are local, and up to now the food and service have been exceptional. We always bring any friends / family that are staying with us to eat at The Granary. As the experience has up to now been constantly enjoyable. However, on Friday the 28th April, we booked a table for six, as we had friends visiting from London. Table booked for approx. 19:45. Table 20 We arrived and had to wait for nearly 10 minutes for someone to appear from the kitchen area. They politely asked to go to our table, I stated we required drinks in bar before, as usual. This seemed to put out the waitress out slightly. We ordered our drinks. The drinks arrived apart from mine. Which I had to inquired “where is my drink”. The waitress then stated, “Oh we have to change to barrel”. I waited 10-15 minutes it then appeared. Just as we were being seated on our table. We ordered food etc. We then had to carry our own drinks to the table. Usually the offer to carry them for us is made. There was no offer of the wine menu. Well, not until half way through the main course when I had to ask to see it.The bread board arrived, to which I could only conclude it came from Morrison’s. Thinly sliced, under cooked doughy bread. Never in 4 ½ years have I had 5-7mm thin sliced bread served. Then bread was dumped down with no explanation to what the bread was etc. again only 2 types. White & brownI asked if the single board could be split to two as there was six people, and a small board in the middle was awkward. The waiter said sorry this is how it comes. I did complain as to the quality. The waiter shrugged his shoulders and couldn’t be bothered. It was embarrassing for me, as I had said to my friends we eat here often and it is great. The starter, main course came, which was fine. After having to ask for the wine menu, no one returned to take our order. I finally had to call the waiter over.We ordered extra drinks and wine, which took a while to come. The waiter bought dessert menu as soon main course was cleared, then less than 30 seconds later the waitress asked do we want to order? Phew! Talk about a rush. It was nearly 10pm by then- home time I guess. We got the hint and didn’t order coffee or dessert, something we nearly always do. I complained about service and starter again to waiter. He just said, “oh right”. Took payment and walked off. No apology at all. We usually tip well. This time- zero tip. Never in 4 ½ have we had such bad service from yourselves, service sometimes has been up & down depending how busy you are. I understand that. But on Friday you only had a few tables filled. There are actually many pleasant restaurants in our area. Hogarths, Brockencote, Chequers, the new Maltstone etc. As we only live on XXXXXX XXXXX, all these restaurants are just as close as yourselves. We may not be the greatest customers only visiting 10-12 times a year, with a spend between £80-£250 a time. Thus, not impacting your turn over greatly. My wife & I will have to think very carefully before eating with you again. I don’t think I have been so embarrassed in front of my dear friends- ever. I really did boast as to the service and quality, which was clearly untrue.

Visited The Granary tonight...a treat from our dear friends as a thank you.The staff were attentive and delightful especially the senior waiter. The starter was delicious ...goats cheese mousse in a very thin flakey pastry shell with balsamic vinegar and red onion..my husband had chicken terrain with a salsa ..also delicious .The main course...belly pork, very small roast potatoes and cabbage with extra vegetables on the side ...extremely tasty as was the blade of beef. When we saw the dessert menu it looked enticing.....however, what a great disappointment !!! I ordered passion fruit creme brûlée ...the brûlée was very grainy, nasty texture, couldn't even see the passion fruit and it came sliced!!! No crispy topping..in fact the spoon bounced off the sliced brûlée. My husband had the lemon meringue pie with raspberries and what looked like hard purée red jam. The filling tasted very similar to the brûlée ..nasty and grainy. The staff were very pleasant. What was also disappointing was the lack of tablecloth. I spilt some of the sauce from the vegetables onto the table...despite having 3 different waiters attend to us, not one wiped the spillage away...in the end I did it myself with the napkin.Would I go there again...probably not.

Lunch at The Granary on Mothers Day March 26th. It was Booked to Capacity. It was a bit tricky getting a Parking Space. Our Table was ready a little ahead of time. Considering the number of people in the Restaurant, Service was very good. Menu quite good with a plenty of selection of veg etc. Beef a little too underdone for me personally, so had an alternative Meat. As before, Staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful. Price was higher than usual Sunday Lunch, but then I expect all places did the same on that special day. I will re visit - on a quieter day.

I attended this venue with a large group of friends. All meals were notified to them a week before the celebration meal. All dietary requirements were notified to them too and we were assured there would be gluten free alternatives provided. First out went the bread baskets, four times I asked where my gluten free bread was. Out came the starters and were eaten, here I had to scrape crumbs off my starter because they had not provided a gluten free alternative. Then my bread arrived a minute before the main course. For my main course I had ordered Chicken with sage and onion stuffing. The gluten free alternative was NO STUFFING! Ridiculous for a so called high quality restaurant that had been given 7 days notice. The only conclusion I can draw from this is they couldn't be bothered. Good job they don't run a brewery! Won't be going back there in a hurry I can assure you.

We had a decent meal but definitely overpriced. Pigeon starter was overcooked. Scallops were small and bland. Venison was lovely but didn't need a chocolate ravioli (yes that's right!), half an apple and sliced beetroot all thrown on the plate without balancing each other. Glasses, cutlery and plates were dirty. Service was ok but could be better. Sorry to say we wouldn't go back :(

Two of us were bought dinner for a Christmas present. We were greeted cheerily and soon had our pre-dinner drinks. My real ale was good. The staff were friendly and attentive. We chose from the set menu - 4 choices each course. From where we sat we could see the kitchen and all dishes were served promptly. If you have a large appetite the savoury rolls and dips were good, otherwise you won't need them The starters were generous and delicious. The lamb main course the same.Only one niggle - both bar and restaurant were cold. Need to turn the heating up!

I have not visited The Granary restaurant for about 12 months - my last visits were for Sunday lunch, but I felt a bit neglected with regards to the service. Not so for this visit! We were well looked after by Laura and all the staff; the food was excellent and the 3 course meal is very good value. Most of us had the carvery which was beautiful; however, there was a good choice for all 3 courses. I could not fault anything, and I don't think I will wait 12 months before I come back again.

The food was of a high standard, but the waitresses tended to be hovering and waiting to take away empty plates almost as soon as they were available. Having enjoyed the occasional meal at the Granary over the years we decided to go there to celebrate a family birthday. Happy to say that our dinner was superb - the very best meal we've had here. Very well done to the Chef for an imaginative menu offering a good choice and for producing superb food. However on this occasion he was somewhat let down by his colleagues. It took forty minutes from having our dinner plates collected to having our sweets delivered to our table. The wait included two requests to see the sweet menu and ended with a waitress who was not quite sure what she was serving despite having written down our orders. So disappointing service to go with a first class dinner. An unusual combination !!!

Although food and service good I have decided to mark down to a rating of 3 because although we stated "September offer" on arrival we did not get offered the complimentary glass of wine I now realise we should have been. On more than one occasion we were asked what offer we were on and when the final bill came this was still not taken into account and had to go back for correction.Overall no communication between staff it seems.

5 of us visited the Granary restaurant for my new wife's birthday. We were welcomed by the pleasant staff and sat down for a drink in the bar to place our food orders. I like this approach as there was not the pressure to order something quickly like there sometimes is when orders are taken at the dining table. After about 15 minutes we were shown in to the lovely dining room to a round table which is always nice. The view of the kitchen pass is a nice touch. Our starters arrived soon after and all I can say is wow. Myself and new father in law ordered the 3oz fillet steak with pea fricassee. Absolutely out of this world. I've eaten at numerous Michelin star restaurants and this was up there with that standard but with the added benefit of a decent portion size. Our main of lamb loin was equally as good although I felt the feta cheese was not needed. That's just my preference though. My mother in law had the crab to start which was a meal in itself followed by the sea bass which was beautifully presented and again a really nice portion. My wife had food envy. The evening finished with dessert and what I have to say was the best creme brulee ever. I cannot stress how good this restaurant is and the value it offers. It's not cheap but it's not that expensive either, with the taste, quality and portion size of the dishes making it a worthwhile investment of your time and money. Top that with lovely surroundings and wonderfully pleasant and professional staff, makes this a place not to miss.

Our second visit. They have a small dog-friendly section, we had our dog with us. We were celebrating a family birthday. The reasonably priced roast dinner buffet is excellent, favourites at our table were the gammon and venison. There is a host of delicious vegetable side dishes. The price included a dessert which the menu tells us was taken at the table. There is an option to purchase a kids roast dinner which we recommend for children, we had two teens. However, we waited a considerable amount of time, well over a half hour for this. When we found someone to enquire the young lady (we had enquired twice) assured us that it would be sorted. All the desserts were good, my only comment was that the Eton Mess was considerably lacking in meringues a very tiny amount, I asked if there was additional meringue that could be added but the young lady insisted that I already had some. All things considered well worth it, we drive neatly 40 min to enjoy it - local parks and dog walks make it a lovely afternoon out.

We have previously had excellent service whenever we visited. The staff are truly exceptional. We shall not return however, today whilst eating the normally delicious food, my 9 year old girl found a dead maggot in it. I am sure it was an oversight and not indicative of there usual high standards of hygiene. Unfortunately, despite being regular visitors we will not return.
