Quintessentially perfect! The afternoon tea was scrumptious; homemade cakes, scones, brownies, sandwiches, quiche along with fresh fruit, homemade chilli jam and coleslaw. I took my partner here for his birthday plus I also proposed to him. The staff were incredible. Nicki was wonderful. Thank you for all you did for us. XX
I took a friend here for her birthday. The meal was pretty good, but the service was subpar. I would not go here again. There are better places with more flavorful food, and friendlier more attentive service: such as Anchalee in Berkeley or Nua in Oakland.
Came here for a Sunday roast while staying in the town for a weekend away. I’m pretty fussy with a Sunday Roast and can safely say this was up there with the best I’ve had! Beef was cooked to perfection, veg and sides were all delicious. Lovely Easter dessert for the kids.
Staff were all very friendly and accommodating and there was a great selection of beer and wines.
The pub itself was lovely and cosy with a very cute little courtyard at the back. We hope to return to Alcetser and will definitely be back to the Royal Oak!
Good portion and nicely cooked. Hash browns were lovely, only criticism is I Would prefer the butter to not be put in with the food as it had all melted into the beans. Therefore no butter for the toast
Traditional Potteries Pub in a nice location - but the food was a big disappointment.
I had steal & ale pie, chips and mushy peas.
The pie was a small portion and virtually all pastry (some of it soggy) and there was hardly any steak filling.
The pie filling was the tiniest amount In a pie I have ever seen as a food reviewer!
There were probably 3 tiny, tiny pieces of meat and they were dry!
I was well shortchanged!
I reckon I ate £3 worth of food from the meal - so a loss of £7.
I think the staff knew the pie portion wasn't up to scratch as there was no checkback.
I didn't like the mushy peas either and left most of it. I did ask for garden peas but they didn't have any.
The only good thing were the homemade chips which tasted superb and also the gravy in the gravy boat.
Would not recommend for food.
Did not enjoy the food, Chutney tray was very watery and thin, curry was devoid of flavour with little to no spice, chicken was cooked, but not tender. Popadoms, rice and Naan bread were as expected.
Service was average, little to no atmosphere.
They did offer glasses for your own drinks.
Price would have been fair, if the quality was better.
We visit Shamraj at least once each week and have a great experience every time. The menu is varied and nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the chef if you want something made a certain way. We have started taking friends when they visit and they love it too!

Delicious food, very customisable and staff are very accomplishing. The customer service was amazing. Lovely, very chatty and well priced and large portions. Would recommend.
