The Grapes at Newchapel in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Came for a midweek meal with family, was a lovely atmosphere and made to feel welcome. The home made food was all of a good quality and the home made chips were really nice!

Really nice village pub, particularly after an event, and good food.

Traditional Potteries Pub in a nice location - but the food was a big disappointment. I had steal & ale pie, chips and mushy peas. The pie was a small portion and virtually all pastry (some of it soggy) and there was hardly any steak filling. The pie filling was the tiniest amount In a pie I have ever seen as a food reviewer! There were probably 3 tiny, tiny pieces of meat and they were dry! I was well shortchanged! I reckon I ate £3 worth of food from the meal - so a loss of £7. I think the staff knew the pie portion wasn't up to scratch as there was no checkback. I didn't like the mushy peas either and left most of it. I did ask for garden peas but they didn't have any. The only good thing were the homemade chips which tasted superb and also the gravy in the gravy boat. Would not recommend for food.

Popped in for a few pints and a late dinner. Steak and Ale pie and Meat and Potato one - both were amazing and it’s years since I had proper homemade chips. Took me back to having your tea cooked for you after school - it was immense. Definite recommendation.

Very friendly and warm hearted staff they do a senior citizen choice of meals for £5 but we chose from the main menu and were more than happy with our choice of meals cod an homemade chips and meat an ale pie peas and chips , the beer was also very good and kept well this is a marstons pub and beer cheaper on Tuesday

My partner has taken over this pub and we have updated inside and out to give a warm friendly environment for family's and dogs karaoke on a Saturday evening we have a darts team but are looking for crib and domino's team we are now doing food come and join us and enjoy a great pint in a warm welcoming atmosphere

I love this place. Amy and Simon always make everyone feel so welcome. Drinks already poured before we even get to the bar! Great atmosphere, no trouble or trouble make makers.

Avoid like the plague, but food was horrible. Was staff extremely unfriendly. We asked her why she thought it was okay to smoke indoors whilst we were eating. Turned out to be the landlady of the pub. Meal was terrible of the highest order. Couldn't beleive my eyes. I should of noticed this when I drove past the week before and the windows were boarded up

A great pint of Banks bitter, very well kept and a great price on Tuesday. The pub as recently been attacked and had all its ground floor windows smashed, but the landlady was updated, the pub was lovely and warm, clean and open for business.

We booked for 10/01/24 never been here before and wanted to try it out for my birthday. I wasn't disappointed me and my family all had a meal I had the homemade steak and ale pie with a cheese cake for dessert. I will be going back again and fully recommend to anyone in the area. Food was top quality and the staff were very nice from start to finish. I'd give 10 stars if I could.

Went for food and a drink on Wednesday lunchtime. first time going & a lovely warm welcome, had Steak Pudding Chips Mushy peas & grab. The empty plate said it all! Really enjoyed my meal & a nice pint of pedigree too 😊. Will definitely be going back. Owner also told us to go on a Tuesday for lower priced Real Ale 🍺 prices which is a bonus. Food was very good home made chips are a winner

We held a wake at The Grapes. Jill was extremely helpful prior to the day. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it. The staff were very accommodating and respectful on the day. We would definitely recommend.

This was our second time in the Grape Experienced a delicious homemade dinner of liver and bacon and a yummy Sunday lunch . A nice friendly atmosphere, didn’t stay for the Sunday afternoon music due to other commitments.

Great pub heard good things about this for a while now and decided to go and try it out for ourselves. Jill and Susie were very welcoming and the food was amazing. Always difficult getting a good vegetarian option but they were very accommodating and the halloumi fries were the best I’ve ever tasted. The homemade burgers were also great quality as was the whole meal. Will definitely be going back for another meal Many thanks Jill and Susie

Went here for the first time yesterday service was great staff were great really good pub with a good atmosphere and even though they were very busy yesterday still didn't have to wait long to get served

I went here with friends for drinks and we were greeted by a very pleasant and welcoming lady on the bar. We also met the lovely owner who was doing a raffel collection to raise funds for a defibrillator at the pub. The darts board is a nice addition and we had fun playing, and the smoking area is nice too!

Bar staff are friendly, drinks are well priced. A bit sweary in the lounge

I have been here a few times and everytime I've had food its been a lovely meal with a great service, friendly atmosphere and great staff very welcoming. Looking forward for the sun to come out so I can sit in the garden and enjoy my meals with a great selection of beers, wines and spirits

I took my elderly mother for a light lunch yesterday, the landlady was very friendly and the food was excellent and very good value for money, I would definitely recommend it. Thank you.

Wounderfull evenings at the grapes for granddaughter Jessica 18th food lovely food service lovely, bar service was a bit slow being that only one gal was trying to do both bars ,however that gal worked her socks of what a credit to the pud she was ,landlady was a joy to talk to ,my daughters have decided to have my wake there ,not just yet though. All in all Wounderfull evenings.

Celebrated my daughters 18th birthday with a meal for 9 people. What a fabulous service, polite, friendly and accommodated us so well. Food was fantastic and came out all together and was very tasty. Amazing value for money and super bar prices. Jill and her team worked so hard to make our evening very special. Helped me sort her cake when we had a candle disaster and Kept seeing if we were OK and even coming for a well deserved refreshment with us. Thankyou team for all your hard work. We will be back.

After seeing quite good reviews we decided to book for lunch. What a disappointment. We ordered LARGE fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish; we have seen bigger portions on children’s meals and there was more batter than actual fish. When we queried the size the staff agreed that the fish portions were very small and the bill would be reduced by £3 per person, thereby charging £7.95. Still far too expensive for the very small portions we received. The WCs were a disgrace and bleach was certainly required and at least one lock needed replacing. As a plus the staff were pleasant and friendly. Would we go to this pub again, no.

Went for a birthday meal, the food was awful, we mentioned to the staff, burger was very tough, chicken pie was gritty and was tasteless, such a shame as the pub and staff seem really nice

Had a lovely main meal, chicken & Stilton pie with hand cut, homemade chips. Would definitely recommend this dish. The pudding was disappointing, we were told the pudding menu was being changed and given a choice of 3, chocolate cake, chocolate swirl cake and raspberry swirl cake. We had the swirl cake which turned out to be Swiss roll.

We booked a table for 8 at last minute over Easter break. Jill was very accommodating and couldn't do enough for us. Been back every week since for meals, food has been excellent every visit and good value for money. This is now becoming our local pub for a good meal and drinks. Can't wait to try the Sunday lunch.

Visited for a midweek lunch.. it was very quiet, but the atmosphere was good.. had a lovely lunch with a very friendly staff member.. would recommend 😁

Nipped in for a drink on the way through, lovely little pub staff very welcoming and went the extra mile. I realised after a while that they actually do food so I will be returning to try it. 😁☺️

Having been to the grapes early doors 5.30pm. What a great atmosphere very friendly. We ordered 3 steak and ale pies and 1 mixed grill and a bottle of wine. Very reasonable price and the meal was delicious. Thank you Jill. Michelle peter glenis and Ed. X

Lovely and clean pub, with a separate small dining area. Nicely decorated. We've only visited once to eat, Sunday lunch. My husband and daughter really enjoyed their meals and want to go again. I like good home made thickened gravy and I like my roast potatoes fryed (after being boiled); so I didn't enjoy it as much as some other places we have eaten. Having said that, when we visited last week to book the table, the smell of the fried fish and chips was wonderful (the fish smelt really fresh). We will return, and we will definitely try mid week for the main menu.

Always a great welcome in the grapes, food is spot on with a varied menu to accommodate most tastes, and my favourite the beer well priced, bar staff are the best 10 out of 10
