Popped in for lunch while on a visit to the area. A great local pub. Staff so friendly and great food at a great price. We had a steak sandwich and fish sandwich respectively. Such large portions and at a very good price. We had a local beer and cider which were good recommendations by barman. Really enjoyed our visit

My new favourite pub 😍. Really pleasant service, great surroundings and food that cannot be faulted. The price for 3 course lunch was very reasonable for the quality of food and skill of the chef.

Called in for lunch and had a wonderful all round experience. On entering the refurbished, traditional bar area, complete with stone floor, candles and real fire we were welcomed by the landlady. There was a choice of four Hook Norton cask ales. All were fresh, well kept and just the right temperature. We opted for the fixed price lunch menu. There was a choice of four starters, four mains and three desserts. We only had room for starters and mains. The food was most enjoyable, with fresh ingredients and the good sized portions. This is a pub well worth seeking out if you are in the area in need of a meal or just a decent pint of cask ale.

We were absolutely over the moon to find The Red Lion in Ilmington so beautifully renovated! The new owners have done a fantastic job. This delightful old pub boasts two, glorious roaring fires for the colder months, and a large, sun trap beer garden at the rear, through a gloriously restored old archway, together with tables out the front of the pub so the warmer weather, take your pick. Food was delicious, service excellent! Our first visit was on a Saturday evening and the vibe was lovely, but I loved it so much, I came back with my dogs for lunch, on the Monday. Very Dog friendly indeed, and my dogs had Bonios brought out to them, how lovely. Yes, we’re super happy. Now, Ilmington has two absolutely delightful pubs - lucky Ilmington!

The Red Lion has been upgraded! We had a private function there and a week later went back for dinner. Alice seemed to be the only serving staff, running the bar and the restaurant. And she absolutely rocked it. No delays, remembered our party from a precious visit and did it all with a smile and efficient professionalism rarely encountered. The food was great and reasonably priced. Ilmington is fortunate to now have two amazing pubs with good menus. And the Red Lion is doing it right. Alice… is doing it right ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a wonderful family meal here yesterday! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome by the lovely staff. The service was impeccable—attentive but never overbearing, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We also loved using the new pool table and dart board area. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was cooked to perfection. The menu had something for everyone, and each of us found exactly what we were craving. What really stood out was the atmosphere—perfect for a family gathering. Cozy, inviting, and relaxed, it made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Special mention to Lukasz for communicating so quickly and helping the arrangements and booking us in even though you had another big table that day. Also, hello again to the lovely lady with the cute puppy…is it Pippa? We left feeling full, satisfied, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

Went to The Red Lion after hearing it had been refurbished. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a warm small pub vibe, staff were really friendly and chatty. We sat in the window seat near the fire, which was roaring away. We decided to have a couple of starters, the falafel and the pate. Both starters were generous portions, and the falafel was delicious. Clearly homemade and not dry at all with plenty of hummus. We asked for extra bread for the pate which was delivered swiftly. After finishing our food we got chatting to one of the girls who worked and lived above the pub. She brought down her very cute puppy called pippa, who tottered about the pub loving all the attention. As we were leaving we got chatting to her and one of the guys who part owns the chain of pubs. Think his name was Lucas? He kindly showed us the out house where they have a pool table and dart board with plenty of seating that’s available for private hire. I’m not usually the type of person who does Google reviews but felt like I had to after such a lovely afternoon. Would definitely recommend the newly refurbished red lion, either for a couple pints or for a delicious meal. We look forward to returning soon! Thanks again, Harriet x

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch today, thank you Red Lion Team. 👍😊 Between us we chose roast rib of beef, the brisket and the roast Lamb. Soo much tender delicious meat, huge tasty yorkies, crispy potatoes and lovely FRESH veggies! Really was the best roast we’ve EVER eaten out and we ordered a wonderful cauliflower cheese as an extra. Extremely generous portions as always and top notch home cooking at its absolute best. No mean portion controlled meals that you get elsewhere… Soo generous that we have as yet to have room left to try any of the deserts!! We don’t eat out as a family often, it’s a treat for us and whenever we do we choose to go to the Red Lion as it is consistently GREAT and all the staff are always really nice. The homemade minted lamb burger they have done in the past is the best burger any of us have ever tried!! 👌 Their pies are all fresh and homemade, the veg fresh and their gravy yummy! They welcome dogs too which is always a win win for us and for hubby that pops in during a dog walk for a drink and warm up. A traditional old school pub with most excellent food!

We arrived traditionally late for our reservation. We'll it's a tradition with us anyway and instead of being peeved the landlord soon rearranged things to make us comfortable in the Bar .I was going to be glad about this as 8t enabled me to eavesdrop on the Bar Leaners who proved conclusively that if Central Casting find themselves short of locals for the Bull at Ambridge they need look no further . In fact the scriptwriting team at The Archers could learn a thing or two about Village Pubs if they spent some time here . More importantly they could get a dose of reality on the dietary front because this pub does Sunday Lunch like its auditioning for Best Sunday Lunch Award 2022. Generous pile slices of roast Rib of Beef and a Mount Vesuvius sized Yorkshire Pudding impressed my Daughter whose Birthdaywe were celebrating ( she's a Chef ) and me ,and I'm a Beefeater ( well I look like one) .Excellent Gravy too . Similarly the roast Pork obviously came from a contented Old Spot and the Crackling was more Crackly than a forest fire . It's my Birthday soon and I'm already running a Campaign to return . Absolutely brilliant with a real open fire too and No Daft Music

We like the fire and always cosy, just this time I think the cost of a glass of wine and especially the instant coffee (coffee machine wasn't on) was excessive..I did check making the coffee £2.90!! Definitely going to try the Howard next time as we are always walking in the area. Think sometimes if you don't drink alcohol, you can get a poor deal? We absolutely love this place, so quickly. Menu is limited, but that fine for a cafe, a bit overpriced for what it was, but again lovely environment. We shall miss it it. We were going to try their sister cafe in Stratford, but we have found there's an ongoing issue with the booking system, so we have given up hope on visiting.

Came here for a Sunday roast while staying in the town for a weekend away. I’m pretty fussy with a Sunday Roast and can safely say this was up there with the best I’ve had! Beef was cooked to perfection, veg and sides were all delicious. Lovely Easter dessert for the kids. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating and there was a great selection of beer and wines. The pub itself was lovely and cosy with a very cute little courtyard at the back. We hope to return to Alcetser and will definitely be back to the Royal Oak!

Lovely meal, good wine list and friendly service. Only small grouse, it was noisy which slightly spoiled the atmosphere.
