Lovely friendly and cosy pub. Great selection of meals and beer, all fairly priced. Easily my favourite pub in Shipston.

The Horseshoe is a striking venue, on the Shipston central road. They serve traditional British pub fare, cooked well. Mozzarella sticks, barbecue chicken, ham, egg and chips. Quiet in the restaurant, but busy in the bar. The Wye Valley IPA ale was good, but it's a shame there is no local Cotswolds beer on tap, as there are so many local breweries.

Popped in to this pub while paying a recent visit to Shipston-On-Sour and so glad we did. The landlady was extremely pleasant and really made us feel welcome. The food was lovely traditional pub grub and the chips were to die for. The landlady even brought an extra bowl of peas for our friends dog! (he has weird tastes! :). Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Had a fantastic evening here. Met lovely friendly staff and a delicious evening meal. Catered for my mother who is coeliac without batting an eyelid. Sadly Mum was unable to have the onion rings as they are cooked in the same frier as non gluten free options so an amendment needed on the menu but the staff came out to check which was great. I had the cajun chicken which was delicious and a huge portion, my mum had the sweet chilli chicken which she thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to all for your great company, and service.

I stumbled across The Horseshoe today, as was visiting a near by shop and I’m glad I did. On entering were greeted by friendly staff and we were instantly made to feel welcome and comfortable. Great menu and a specials board to tantalise your tastebuds, even more and saw they are doing offers on certain days of the week. Like Burger and Pint. The food and quality was outstanding, fresh and clean plates all round. Even managed to squeeze in some chocolate cake😜 The landlord informed us he had only taken the pub on 2 weeks ago. It’s clean, friendly, excellent food, child & dog friendly and Covid safe. We will be back very soon.

This pub has a nice atmosphere and has a car park at the back. We booked for Sunday lunch which is a buffet with a choice of roast beef, slow cooked beef or roast pork. We felt we got the tail end of the meat....a couple of small slices were served. We helped ourselves to vegetables. The roast parsnips and carrots were very soft. Otherwise there was Savoy cabbage, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Desserts cost £5.85 and were disappointing. In particular the ‘special’ bread and butter pudding was dry and not made like a proper traditional recipe. It consisted of 2 half slices of bread on top of one another . It was not appealing to look at or eat.

Arranged to meet some friends for dinner having seen the menu looked interesting and had quite a few vegetarian options and wanted to try somewhere different. Had tried to eat here earlier in the year and hadn’t worked out. I ordered a goats cheese tart which sounded delicious, served with fries. When it arrived there was 3 small new potatoes that had been halved and no fries. The tart itself was bland and pretty average and seemed to of been heated in a microwave so had slightly soggy pastry. There was a tiny amount of salad drowning in dressing. Others had meals that they enjoyed, just seemed to be mine that wasn’t great. Staff were friendly and will maybe try again at some point in the future.

Appealing pub close to the centre of a small, country town. Internally there are wooden beams and some exposed stone walls but overall it has been fairly well modernised, with a central bar and two distinct areas for drinking/eating. On a cold day, the heating could have done with turning up a notch. The menu isn't the biggest and I was informed on arrival that some of the items listed were not available. I opted for the pan fried sea bass (£14.50), listed on the menu as pan fried salmon, but they informed me the principal ingredient had been changed. Not a problem, as it was a delicious piece of bass, perfectly cooked, served with a pesto dressing plus sauted potatoes and green beans. There are four handpumps featuring, at the time of my visit, the ubiquitous Doom Bar (groan!) plus three well chosen ales including the locally brewed North Cotswold Fosseway Flanker, which was my choice. Overall this is a decent pub, four stars all the way, but just falls short of that wow factor which would elevate it to a five.

I have been going to a great pub in the Cotswolds for a couple of years, and then I learnt that their manager had been head hunted to take over the Horseshoe in Shipston-on-Stour, so of course I wanted to visit. The car park that is tucked out of site around the back is really big. The beer garden is very up market, and the recently redecorated bar has been very tastefully done, with a mixture of subdued lighting and great window seats to watch the world go past. The pint of Shagweaver Ale had been kept perfectly and they had other good real beers.I went for a hamburger for lunch which is made on the premises with mince sourced from the local butcher’s and that is impressive, both that the kitchen produces real homemade food, and that it tasted just so good. I also bought a glass of red Rioja, which was perfect. The young lady who served me was delightful. All in all, 11 out of 10.

We were a party of six who had made a booking for a table in the restaurant area. When we arrived we were eventually shown to a table in the bar area underneath the flat screen tv which was hardly conducive to conversation! We asked to be moved and were then given a table in the restaurant. One of our party ordered a pint of local beer which he had to reject twice as it was as flat as mill pond and the staff did not seem to have any idea as to how to serve draught beer. We all live locally and try and support local hostelries but to be honest the experience here was poor. We gave our food orders in to the server and awaited our meal - the starters came out as ordered. However when it came to our main courses five came out together with an apology that they had forgotten to put through the other meal ordered, so five had to eat their meals whilst the poor unfortunate member of the party had to watch and then eat his in isolation when everyone else had finished. Yes we were offered complimentary drinks but this really is not adequate compensation for totally disjointed service. Also the hand dryer in the Men’s toilets was not working and no paper towels had been put in place. I had to go to the bar and advise them of the situation and was given some paper napkins to dry my hands.

Good value too as our bill came to just under £30 per head and we all had two courses and a bottle of wine each.Just a few minor niggles: they had run out of a few things which was a surprise for 7pm on a Saturday evening, especially as it wasn't busy; and there was no real ale on offer which goes against the look of the place, particularly the hops hanging from the old oak beams.I would definitely recommend booking here for a meal though.

Having recently moved near to Shipston we had recommendations from a few people about the food here. We had our first overnight guests since moving and dinner out was on the agenda, we wanted good food and plenty of choice. The Horseshoe scored 10/10 for both, we were spoilt for choice, locally sourced meat etc. Two of us had Cotswold faggots - delicious. The other two had Chicken with Stilton which was also very tasty. We could each of easily chosen at least three or four other options each. We did manage a pudding. The sticky toffee was declared the best ever tasted by a homemade sticky toffee officiando! On top of all this the service was great, the pubs really friendly with a mix of locals and people from further afield. We will def become regulars at The Horseshoe. Thanks for a great evening.

Good pub great cider. Had a fish soup very disappointing. £8 for good bread but soup was very poor value. Just a brown liquid with about 5 very small squares of fish in it. For that price thought it was going to be a harty filling soup. Was hardly a decent starter!

Stopped here for a quick light lunch, we had the fish finger baguette and sausage, bacon and black pudding baguette which were marvellous. The black pudding was the best I have ever tasted. Ambience was very friendly with a great choice of cask ales. Perfect.

Ended up in the horseshoe with a friend after a random road trip! Lovely relaxed pub, the food was great and we managed to watch the rugby. We had locally made rabbit pie with really good chips and gravy. Can't fault the service or the friendly welcome we had.

Currently sat in front of the fire with our dog & have just enjoyed a baguette & chips each. Really tasty food. Cajun chicken and chips with curry sauce and a bacon, Brie & cranberry with cheesy chips. Baguettes nicely lightly cooked & really tasty fillings. Good locals, friendly & chatty. Dogs welcome. Nice fire. Nicely priced.

A fun type of pub with friendly staff and choice of good ales. A real old established bar with lots of locals. Quite bohemian but suits the place. Good selection of nibbles and great fun!

I live 30 mins away from Shipston but at least once a month my gf and I drive over for a Sunday Carvery. The meat is always amazing. ( and very generous too) There are loads of vegetables to help yourself to. And proper old fashioned gravy too!I cannot recommend this lovely old pub enough. It's a proper old school pub so lots of friendly locals enjoying a chat. The odd dog stretched out on the carpet. This place is like going back in time. And it's Perfect! So for a Sunday roast like your granny used to cook, plus a couple of soft drinks for under £25 this place can't be beaten......Any chance of you putting mashed potato on for Sunday lunch???id be there every week if you did!!

Visited this evening. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The pub and the atmosphere was traditional and homely. Great menu choices. Both mine and my partners food was exceptionally good.I would say one of the nicest meals we have had in a long time and would not hesitate to return or recommend. Excellent value for money too. Really impressed. Large car park to the rear which was helpful considering shipston on stour's limited parking.

We had evening meal/bar snack for three nights in a row, as we were staying Bed and Breakfast in Ilmington. There was a really good selection of 'normal' food at sensible prices. The bar staff were great and the locals were welcoming too.

What a lovely friendly pub. We arrived early as we had tickets for 'Dad's Army' at the lovely little Townsend Hall theatre in Shipton. , and asked for our food as soon as their kitchen opened at six.We had two delicious meals on the table at 6.10, in time to relax and enjoy them and sample the real ale selection. American I.P.A recommended in this CAMRA pub.Well worth a visit if you are in this area.

We had dinner and a drink here and it was absolutely delicious food - I had blade of beef with kale and mashed potato and it was perfectly cooked - the beef fell apart in your mouth. The selection of beers was also really varied. The only slight downside is that there were some very loud locals/staff who made it a little hard to hear each other. To be fair, there were quieter areas of the pub that we could have moved into had it been necessary.

We booked here as it is we located for Stratford upon Avon and Chipping Campden. We found it difficult to park when we arrived sonit would be good to have some spaces for residents only. The room was lovely and clean and had a nice bathroom with good toiletries. However the room was very small, with a huge unit in the corner and every surface was full so it felt cluttered and you were limited on space for your own belongings. Perhaps replace that unit and the tiny bedside tables with small drawers to maximise space. The food in the restaurant was very good and the chef was very attentive to our needs. As reaidents itbwoumd have been nice to have a cosy sofa or something in the bar to relax after dinner. The place has lots of potential - it just needs some tweaks. We do recommend d dining there.

overall a lovely hotel and brilliant food. however i couldn’t help but notice the lack of respect from staff members to other fellow staff. i think staff for a hotel this nice should be kind and attentive and not out right rude.

Great location, but you need the weather to go with it, and the cream teas are good enough to back for.
