Travelling from Hayling Island / Chichester to Oldbury, Smethwick and back on the 1st Saturday of the New Year seems crazy, but it's the opening of a world class Photographic Exhibition, and "The Bell" is, great for Dinner on the way back south. Mind you had we known we were going to encounter so much SNOW we would have left earlier... But had a lovely meal and looked after sooo well by a lovely, left handed, Waitress. Remiss of me, but did not catch her name. Two pasta dishes and Sausage, Mash, Onion Gravy and greens were all great. And our favourite Affogato were first class. Hope to return before next January... We have visited The Bell many times for drinks and to eat and had no issues. However, we visited on New Years Day as it was my birthday and was very disappointed in the quality of the meal we chose which was fish and chips. We requested chunky chips but there was only fries available , the fish was of low quality and mainly batter and the peas were cold! The waitress was attentive, so don’t know whether the kitchen staff are different and the menu doesn’t seem to change at all considering it prides itself on changing it daily! Will be a while before we go for a meal again, hopefully you will take this on board with good faith and go back to your normal high standards.

Had Christmas Day lunch here with our family. We rarely go out for Christmas lunch on Christmas Day but decided to go this year. We paid £100 per head for adults and £50 per head for the kids. Despite preordering they didn’t have some of the starters available so offered garlic bread instead. This came out as part toasted bread. Each course took ages to come (nearly an hour for mains) and the food was very average - turkey was awful, stuffing was microwaved cheap processed rubbish, soup was so salty we had to stop the kids eating it! All meals weren’t plated, no condiments (e.g. bread sauce, cranberry sauce etc) and no extra veg or gravy for table. The Christmas pudding was the worst I’ve ever tasted. Between course we had to clear the tables ourselves. After all this they charged us 12.5% (£150) service charge. Really disappointed

We came in for our choir's Christmas meal, which was absolutely amazing! Ordering was really easy and straightforward, replies were quick and helpful - reporting allergies could be improved as there isn't an option to put a note for an uncommon allergen, however, I sent an email and everything was sorted so it wasn't a problem. All the food was perfect and the staff were lovely (even when we asked for extra sprouts). Everyone had a wonderful time. If I'm in charge of another choir meal I will definitely book here again. The ambience was perfect, cosy and warm and not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. Thank you to everyone who made the experience extra Christmassy!

Visited with friends for an early Christmas lunch, comfortable and warm inside, number of menus available but all people on the table have to choose from the same one, we ate pheasant and black pudding suet pie for starters, then turkey and Christmas pudding, all well presented, very tasty and good sized portions, v friendly and efficient staff. Many thanks, it was a very good Christmas lunch.

We visited here with friends on a Friday night. From the minute we walked through the door, we were greeted with a busy, yet warm and cosy atmosphere topped off with unparalleled service from start to finish. I can't remember the chap's name, but he was a Scot and therefore had something in common with one person on our table. The food was incredible, too. This was our first time visiting The Bell, but I can honestly say that it won't be our last.

We use The Bell regularly, it's on our way home from visiting the kids and other stuff in and around Knowle. We like the food, the drink and the staff, its particularly dog friendly and we take our visitors to enjoy lunch or dinner when they are with us. Ordinarily the place is excellent, the staff are friendly, the ale is well kept and I may have already mentioned the food is rather good. There is just one problem, the front bar area, we took our kids for lunch when they visited with their dog and quite rightly we were seated in the front bar where dogs are allowed, the problem is we were forgotten! We were served by several members of staff, all of whom were very apologetic for ignoring us, I went to the bar to order drinks and asked one of the bar staff to send someone to take our food order, apologies all round for ignoring, the food was ordered and delivered then we waited to order desert, eventually went to the bar and asked the same bar person to send someone to take our order, more apologies, deserts were ordered and delivered, we then waited on the off chance that someone might bring the bill, no chance! Went to the bar and paid the same bar person, suggested that a word with management wouldn't go amiss which he agreed to do and we left. On our most recent visit they were busy and the only table available was in the front bar, we reluctantly agreed, after I told the staff member who seated us of our unfortunate experience in that area previously, but was assured that all would be well; it wasn't, exactly the same result as the first time dreadful service no contact from staff members ordering our drinks from the bar and asking the bar staff to flagg down someone to take our food order, then desert order and finally the bill all sorted with the help of the bar staff. It won't stop use using the Bell but that area needs to be sorted out.

All staff are attentive without being overbearing. The facilities are first class. All food was of a very high quality and very reasonably priced. Staying nearby we went to the Bell for an evening meal. We were not disappointed: it was delicious. I had lamb shoulder and it was cooked to perfection. The puddings were also scummy. They cater for allergens and tweaked my meal to suit mine. The restaurant seemed disabled friendly but I don't think the rooms are. Best to check before booking/visiting. Didn't use the lavatory so I can't comment on them but I have no reason to believe they would be anything but clean and well maintained. If we lived in the area we would definitely go there again and I would recommend it, unreservedly.

So today being the 100th birthday of my late uncle we decided to commemorate the occasion by going out for lunch. There was my aunt, aged nearly 101, myself and 2 close friends. We have been many times before and always had a lovely time. Today could not have been better tbh. We arrived separately but were all very warmly welcomed as we entered and shown to our seat in a lovely position in the restaurant. Our server was I believe Sandra, who was so kind, patient and lovely. We didn't have to wait anytime for the drinks which left enough time for us to peruse the wonderful menu. The food arrived just on time, not too quickly at all, and we all had dish envy for each other's dishes. My aunt had the Lashford sausage and mash with cabbage and my goodness, there were three huge sausages and she had to take one home, but she absolutely loved every mouth full. I had the shoulder of lamb with crushed potatoes, carrots, leeks and cabbage. It was beautiful. The lamb literally fell apart on the plate. The jus was stunning and held the whole dish together. I can't wait to have it again !!! My friends both had the quiche with side salad, and they were extremely impressed and reiterated that we need to come to this restaurant much more often. Sadly none of us had room for desserts but they all looked so wonderful. A beautiful restaurant, fabulous staff with amazing food and worth every penny. Thank you for making a difficult day so lovely.

pubs tend to miss a lot with me as a vegetarian who just doesn't fancy eating another veggie burger so you can imagine how overjoyed i was to find not only a pub which had large variety of dishes but a LOCAL pub at that! not a chain! even the non-vegetarian dishes sounded pretty good. the price can rack up pretty fast, but the quality of the food is really good. dad impressed the pie was "an actual pie" not "slop with a pastry lid." we were offered friendly and efficient service, not too fast and not too slow. atmosphere was joyous, everyone inside seemed to be enjoying their food and time with eachother (which is always a good sign.) definitely not a place to visit in a rush, you'll want time to soak in the beautiful garden views or enjoy the cosy and warm interior. i loved all the art prints on the wall and the old-timey details (like candles, exposed beam, earthenware inspired crockery.) it's not often the inside of a pub feels welcoming. just to add – i don't think my family has ever ordered dessert from a restaurant before but the prospect of a post-meal ice-cream was too much to resist 🤭 the vegan chocolate one was light, just the right amount of chocolate-y and delicious (also loved the glasses they served it in!)

I have heard many good things about this restaurant and so we went today for my husbands birthday. I was underwhelmed by our food today. We had the roast, and it was pretty average, and considering the food is pricey, you expect it to be excellent. We have 4 kids - 2 had the roast option and 2 the burger option - the burgers were tiny, the chips were great. No salad for the burgers. Puddings across the board were really good and we loved that they all had great vegan and GF options, although the meals didn’t have much variety at all for GF for the kids. The service was also average - our waitress hardly gave us a smile throughout the whole meal. Luckily a server of the food was a bit friendlier. Honestly, we won’t be going back again.

We tend to sit down for our evening meals much earlier these days. Really glad we did because by the time we left, you couldn’t park a car in the car park and this was on a Wednesday. We chose to eat here as the menu appealed. Despite a ‘pre 6pm’ sitting we were told straight away that they did not have any asparagus. Disappointed? A little but the point is they told us before we had even placed an order. Excellent. The service and the meals were of very high standard, the cocktails superb (maybe a touch heavy on the alcohol but really nice) and the desserts superb. Why doesn’t anyone serve spotted dick anymore!! Would strongly recommend this restaurant. We ate really well and enjoyed everything about the place, the bar area, the restaurant, the staff…cannot fault any of it. Well done, this was the best meal of our 4 day stay in the area.

Where to go for lunch after a visit to Compton Verney? The answer for us was to speculate on being able to get a table at Th Bell, Alderminster on the outskirts of Stratford upon Avon. No problem. We were welcome with open arms - asked if we would like a drink from the bar to take in with us and hey presto they even took the drinks for us to the table. We were extremely well looked after by Ann-Marie and there was a great choice. A small curried prawn dish for me and scallops for my wife. Delicious. The seared, flaked salmon for the main course was delicious. The experience was faultless and we will go again before long. This is part of a small chain including The Falcon near Banbury which we had visited before - so knew to expect a high standard of both service and food.

Had a meal in the restaurant part of the pub. Lovely food. I was on a budget holiday so had i the cheapest of meals. Burger £16 Banana waffle £8 Bitter shandy pint £6 Taste was fresh and the portions are reasonable, but nothing exceptional considering the 4 star rating, the place is a little grotty around the edges too. Table carnations water cloudy and not cleaned for a while. Walls with noticable droplet stains could of been easily wiped. Minor overlooked discrepancies. Lady staff very friendly and down to earth. An uncomfortable demeanour from, I'm guessing, the manger (male, distinctive accent). Otherwise it seems a much frequented pub. Good space. Plenty of seating in and out. I would recommend. March 2024

I hadn't been to this pub in many years but when we went there for a meal recently I was very impressed. The ambience is so warm and cosy when you walk in - big candles everywhere make it look great - I hate brightly lit places, I want a romantic, relaxing atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive - almost too good at times, needed to be left alone at points to chat etc without being checked on. The food was just gorgeous, it all looked and tasted great. It was hot and came quite quickly even though they were busy. I really liked the small dessert and coffee idea as a big pud can just make you feel stuffed! Overall we loved it - areas for improvement? It was pretty pricey for a pub and the chap looking after us was very friendly - but boy did he look scruffy! Baggy shirt hanging out and baggy, scruffy jeans. Just wear a decent shirt and nicer jeans/trousers and you create the impression you're making an effort for your customers, who after all are paying a great deal of money to eat here!

Sandy took my Wife to choose a table for us all to sit at and put some table decorations on we had taken with us . When my Father arrived Sandy came straight over with a Glass of Prosecco for him. We all made our meal choices and throughly enjoyed them. The presentation of the dishes was great . Overall we had a great evening Sandy made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for her when looking after us. Will definantly be gong back and hopefully Sandy will be on hand to look after us.

We've not been to The Bell for many years and after such a fabulous evening on Saturday I don't know why! The Bell was the perfect location to meet friends halfway and on arrival we were so impressed with the space and ambience. Katherine looked after us so well - almost second guessing everything we needed and pacing the evening to perfection with drinks and meals arriving at just the right time and water refills without even asking. The menu is changed daily and the choice was first class. For starters the chili beef was delicious with strips of sirloin in a light batter - a huge improvement on a Chinese takeaway when you can't see or taste the beef! There was also the choice of this as a main course with salad which a friend had and it was so plentiful. Sea bass was so well cooked - as was the burger and my fish and chips were just as I like it with a fabulous homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas. Pricewise, The Bell is very reasonable for the service and standard of cuisine. I can highly recommend and we will be back very soon and thank you Katherine for outstanding service.

This is the fourth time that we have visited this pub each time. It has always been excellent. Which is difficult to achieve at this moment in time with lack of staff everywhere. Food is delicious, hot and well presented. Everywhere is clean and tidy and clean the toilets.

This pub/Restaurant is five star as far as Food, Menu, Service, Decor etc. I have deducted one star due to families with no control over their children, who ruin the atmosphere for other diners. A family last night ( Two women one man two children) the women were engrossed in their phones all night, the children were running around blowing candles out on other tables and the Dad continually shouting at them but they took zero notice. Disgraceful lack of parenting, no engagement with their children whatsoever. A much loved restaurant we regularly visit has a sign up saying ‘ No WIFI here, we pretend it’s 1975 and talk to each other’ It works! These families spoiling a lovely evening out for others should be politely asked to leave. Can’t fault this lovely restaurant otherwise. Beautiful. The menu choices were varied and the food was delicious.

This is my local, have always considered it a place to go for a treat as it was a cut above but lately it’s starting to fade. Portion sizes are shrinking and the prices are increasing - so pay more for less? The atmosphere is still very welcoming, but with the food presentation looking ‘average pub grub’ it’s not a go to any more. Shame, will go again but not for a while, there are better for same/less within range.

Can't fault this cosy pub, everything was so right, from the time I arrived to the time I left. The consistency of the service was faultless and the quality of food was to die for, will definitely return.

We loved our stay at the Bell... Friendly staff, good food (especially the breakfasts!) and warm, comfortable rooms. And a great location- so close to Stratford and all things Shakespeare- right in the beautiful Cotswolds. I have no hesitation in giving the Bell 5 stars. We will be back!

Had a delicious lunch today (New Years Day 2024) it was delivered by very friendly and attentive staff! Considering they were busy last night (waitress told me so!) they were all so pleasant. Definitely deserve a 5* review!

Excellent food and service. Situated Approximately 20 minutes outside Stratford upon Avon. Plenty of parking. Great menu - we opted for Chicken Liver Parfait and Pork Belly Bites - followed byFish & Chops, Venison pie. All cooked to perfection! I opted for a glass of Nero Avola - which was ok but lacked depth Highly Recommended

I've stayed here before, the rooms have always been great. For £130 per night I'm rather disappointed this time around. I requested to be moved from the 1st room just above the bar because of the noise including flashing toilets. It clearly states on the website that these are luxury sound proof rooms, this is not the case. Got moved to room 4 right by the main road, you can hear every car going by, its not even muffled. The room has stained carpets & walls, I tried to uploads pics but theres no option to do this. The 1st room's set up was lovely, I complained about then got moved to a smaller room. I won't be staying here again, such a shame coz I really liked the Bell.

My wife and I went for an evening meal. It’s a very friendly pub and is our local with great service and beer so we are always keen to promote it. However at the moment the food is starting to let it down. It is okay but not brilliant for the prices charged. The food no longer tastes homemade about 7/10. They need to try harder as there is better quality food at the same price locally, such as the Fuzzy Duck at Armscote. We want it to be a winner!

I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant as wanted to go for a long time. On the whole disappointed with the service as we had to wait 15 minutes on arriving to be asked if we would like a drink and then again when the main meal was served there was no offer of condiments we had to grab the waitresses attention to ask for that and Salt and Pepper, since when do you not have salt and pepper on the table? The starters were nice but the Roast was average at best, roast potatoes were luke warm and the yorkshire puddings had a puddle of oil in the centre of them. For a premium price I expect a higher standard of food offering. Attention to detail from management needs to be instilled into the team. Would I visit again? Not sure I would to be honest as our visit was underwhelming!

Popped in for a quick pint Sunday afternoon. Nice beer, friendly locals and great old building. Just a shame it's not my local!

This is a lovely little café with very reasonably priced, generous portions, freshly cooked and (important for me) clearly labelled gluten free options and a kids menu with the simple options kids enjoy. All of us enjoyed our food and whilst the gluten free batter wasn't anything special, the fish was a generous portion and beautifully flavourful and well cooked so this was easily forgiven. The food isn't fancy but it's well done and tasty and doesn't cost a fortune, none if had any complaints. A great place to stop for lunch or brunch, I think the only thing that was a little tricky was fitting around the small tables but given its small size and popularity, you can see why the tables were small. We got there relatively early for our cooked lunch and were waiting about 20 minutes - reasonable as it's freshly cooked and I am gluten free - I think if it was really busy cooked food might take longer? Worth it though.

Lovely pub and restaurant. We live locally and have tried various pubs in and around this area. But we keep coming back to this one, it's our favourite by some margin. Great food reasonable priced, lovely cosy interior and friendly helpful staff.
