We went here following the reviews but were disappointed with the lacklustre ambience and poor service. Furniture is basic. No service with a smile from servers, having to ask for cutlery and napkins meant that we did not stay. You have to order at the counter. There was better friendlier service given to bigger Asian parties. Music was too loud but if you like an Indian vibe you will like it. The drinks and muffin were fine but we will not be returning or recommend.
Saw reviews of the Norman Knight and booked a table while in the area for a weekend away
First came for a drink and then came back the day after for lunch.
On both occasions we were looked after by all the staff. Amazing hospitality. Couldn't do enough for us. Food was superb. I had the fish and chips and my partner the venison pie which was from the specials board.
Both gorg.
Would highly recommend and will definitely return when back in the area. Thank you.
Lovely staff, incredible food!
Greeted by an enthusiastic lad at the bar, very knowledgeable about the beers on offer, to which I might add there's a good few to choose from!
I decided to have a gammon as I was hungry, I never expected what I got. Ok Gammon asparagus, poached egg parsley sauce, skin on fries. But no collar of fat around the gammon!! A good chunk of pure lean gammon sat under the poached egg all smothered with parsley sauce, the asparagus being cooked perfectly made my meal absolutely perfect. I'll certainly be back to this little gem sat right on the river.
Proper traditional pub. Stone building with flagstone floors and beams. Friendly staff. Great choice of beers and drinks. Sunny courtyard/beer garden at the rear.
Prawn cocktail is awesome. Main courses very tasty - emphasis on locally sourced meat - and portion sizes very generous.
Great value for money.

We all enjoyed the food once it arrived, we almost had to ask to move table as the sun was in our eyes and no curtains on the top windows. But after 30mins it wasn't a problem as the sun set.
A restaurant that just does things the right way. Nice atmosphere, good service and most importantly the food is really well cooked. Not often you get all of this these days. I can’t accept it’s 3.50 for a tiny coke though. But in all a really good meal what feels like the right prices. Apart from the drink..

Stayed here for a weekend while visiting Alton Towers and honestly couldn't rate this place any higher! Will recommend to anyone visiting the area and would definitely come back. Excellent food (Massaman Curry), great service (not sure who Benny is but everyone was fab) and the rooms were super clean and high quality. Stunning expensive feel duvet and pillows & lovely clean bathroom! Honestly 10/10 - thank you!
Very nice meat, very small choice of vegetables, the one big disappointment was the roast potatoes, like a frozen roastie, sickly cheap ice cream, I would expect better quality for over £35 per head
