Oldest pub in town. Really cool from the outside, quite boring on the inside. Seating is limited, however there is some kind of garden with a lot of seating, but that’s not what people come for: they want the old-school pub. Service was alright.

I found this a lovely old pub, with a great feel to it. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the sharing platters for our group went down a treat. Their outside area was a bit busier and noisier ... But go inside for a much more relaxed and quieter environment - this place clearly caters for both!! A little bit out of the city centre, surrounded by some industrial, but I'd recommend.

5 star to their services. I have been to many so far, but this is the best pub in birmingham - so much fun, good vibes.

Ate her on Sunday 23/02/25 midday. Had the beef and pork roast. I actually quite enjoyed the food. 4 of us ate there. 3 ate the same. 3 of us all woke up that night with bad bellies and have been sat on the toilet since. It’s now Tuesday 25th

Birmingham's oldest pub offers excellent ales, really nice food and a good atmosphere. The outside courtyard has been upgraded with a roof and space heaters for the colder days. The Old Crown is a must visit location for any trip to Digbeth.

Food was delicious! Our whole crew of 13 enjoyed a selection of mains and loved the warm cosy and clean atmosphere in The Old Crown - we’d love to return any time we’re in Birmingham!

Tuesday 18th February 2025 This pub is the oldest pub in Birmingham and has sill parts of it that show this very busy tonight good staff but the problem was only 1 real ale on the Purity ales called Jimbo

Loved it! I would say if you need silence to sleep this place probably isnt for you. Lovely warm and clean room. Brilliant staff cant fault it.

Ah, The Old Crown… This place is a masterpiece. The food. It is like a symphony for your taste buds. Every bite is perfect, cooked with such care. And the Amstel. Gott im Himmel, the way they pour it is like they’ve mastered the art of perfection. Cold, crisp, and refreshing—like a cold breeze in the Alps. This is class, my friends. Very easy to get there, good beer and good tho portions are generous so be mindful. Excelent place to get to know a bit of history on this medieval place.

We booked to stay at this hotel only to find the booking wasn’t confirmed, the manager sorted this out however the room was freezing cold and staff would not offer to sort out the heating or even offer extra blankets. We were cold all night and had to snuggle together for warmth

We were expecting a quaint "inn hotel" with a beer garden, however upon arriving it became obvious the hotel aspect was not their priority and it was far more of a busy pub than hotel. There were no clear instructions on how to check in, and even the staff didn't seem sure. We had to wait in the busy bar for a while before being seen to. The worst part about our stay here was by far the fact that they had a DJ in the beer garden playing drum & bass, and heavy rock music insanely loud until well after 1am with absolutely no soundproofing in our sauna of a room. After the beer garden shut off around 1am, more music started (what sounded like) inside the venue. Not to mention the local nightclub that played extremely loud music until 5am!! We had one of the worst sleeps of our life, and we were furious that this wasn't mentioned at all when booking the hotel. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT A GOOD SLEEP! On top of the loud music blaring all night, you could feel every spring in the double bed. The TV was not connected to any form of internet, and also didn't work when I tried myself (hot-spotting my phone etc). When we first turned the TV on, the first thing that popped up were the adult TV channels... Lovely! Honestly extremely disappointed with the "hotel" aspect of our stay. Pub & restaurant were nice, but they should seriously consider improving their accommodation. Double glazed windows would be a good start.

For me, the most impressive pub in Birmingham. The oldest in the city, from 1948. Very good service. 5 days of travel in Birmingham, and 3 visits to this place. Located in the district of Disgbeth, it is worth a walk.

For the pub to be closing early on boxing day doesn't make sense, and to be told to drink up and leave by bouncers and not the bar staff doesn't sit well really.

Four of us stayed here, lovely atmosphere, manager showed us up to our room. Room & bathroom absolutely beautiful. The only downside was.... Having no heating, when returning to our room after a fantastic night out in & around the local area. It was so cold I had to wear my coat in bed.

Terrible service twice.In the summer of 2023 ,I was in Digbeth, pushing my 93 year old mom, in her wheelchair ,Mom said I love the old crown, shall we have a drink and something to eat? .I said yes, so we ordered some food and 2 Hot chocolates ,the food was ok ,but we had to wait over 20 mins for the drinks.when they finally arrived they were cold ,I said "let's just drink up and get out ,we can't find a member of staff anyway to complain"as we were leaving another customer was complaining about how cold her tea was .Fast forward to December 16th 2024,I was in Digbeth again about 2.30.pm with my mom ,when she said "I love the old crown ,shall we have a hot chocolate and soon food "? I said "remember last time? "Oh yes" mom said ,so we sat at a table ,grabbed a menu and went to the bar to order 2 hot chocolates while we browsed at the menu .After several minutes a member of staff appeared ,I ordered the drinks ,we sat there for over 20 mins ,while other people were trying to get served ,we couldn't find the barmaid .As me and my mom got more agitated and frustrated ,the barmaid finally brought the 2 drinks to our table ,she said "sorry about the wait ,we only have one hot drinks machine " so before she left I thought I'd better check how hot it actually is.Both drinks were totally cold.I said "they are freezing ,taste them"she said I'll make you two more ,I said "no thanks I'll have the money back please" so then another member of staff gave me the refund.I said you need to sort your coffee machine out.Never again .

Low-budget pub grafted onto the historic bones of a classic boozer. Could have been great but a definite lack of ambience and the worst pint of Purity’s Mad Goose ale I’ve ever tasted (I had one sip and left it) mean I can only say avoid this pub. [Update: Check out the snarky reply by the establishment. Instead of taking my feedback on board or giving a way to contact them directly to discuss directly, they decided to be sarcastic and unprofessional.]

Always great service from a sunday if you want a carvery or sports on the big screens.

Beautiful old building, the staff were pleasant but not very knowledgeable. We were not impressed with the menu, atmosphere and unstable table so went elsewhere to eat.

The pub is dog friendly. The staff are lovely and the pub is based in a beautiful old building. Good beer! Couldn't be better! After me and my dog Sam were not welcome at the dog unfriendly Spotted Dog pub (ironic isn't it!) this venue has provided a superb and atmospheric replacement!

Tesco express has better beer selection.

We stayed here on our first night and loved it! They were having an Oktoberfest downstairs which would probably put most people off as the noise did travel up to our room, but we loved it! The best way after a long day of cross-continent travel is to be in your PJs singing along to the folks downstairs.

Disappointing - the outside of the building is beautiful, sadly it doesn't carry through. Inside feels tired and the decor isn't at all sympathetic to the building's history.

Went here for a Sunday roast & the food was superb! Welcoming & friendly staff too.

The Old Crown was a great experience staying in a piece of living history in a handy neighborhood with other pubs nearby and a short walk to the train station and center of town. Spotlessly clean. Good food, friendly service, a thriving, popular pub. Only downside, in warm weather especially, noise from the beer garden and pub may go on past midnight, so if you turn in early, this may not be your best choice. Fun activities most nights, the most popular probably being trivia night.

After the day from hell, we couldn’t have asked for somewhere better to crash - Bronwyn and Amelie were super welcoming, the room was cosy and food & drinks were perfect! Highly highly recommend if you’re seeing a gif nearby, or as a quick stop-in in the city; thank you so much guys!

Shocking meat options for Sunday dinner,I have seen better microwave meals! Unattentive chef,came for food with my wife,yet only 1 of us ate,ruined our day +experience as we've had to eat separately, I was forced into a refund after twice being served meat I can only describe as inedible.

Very busy but they had plenty of staff on to cope and they were all very friendly, a welcome change to many establishments. First visit & felt at home!

Located in an old, typically English house, it has a pleasant outdoor space to hang out and enjoy a few beers.

My husband and I stayed here one night, while passing through the area. The room was cozy, the staff was friendly, the drinks were good, and the location was convenient. We spent most of our day shopping and seeing the sights, but it only took us 20 minutes to walk where we wanted to be. I would definitely stay here again!

Went here for the first time in a while after a Blues game .One of lads i go with his wife was ill so he drove and didn't come for a drink after the game .The other two cadged a lift with him so i was on my Jack Jones.I arranged to walk down to the Crown and meet my Mrs for a drink then on to town.So i wasn't rowdy , just sat chatting to some people next to us .They began serving booze in plastics cups , not because of trouble but because seemingly they didn't have enough washed glasses .I'm polite sober ( 1st drink of the day ) but found it hard to get served even though the initial mad rush had subsided after game.In fact i'd sat and waited for the rush to clear milking a pint purchased by my wife before my arrival.The staff seemed to want to serve other people but me .I had one drink a £6.50 one pour Guinness in a cheap plastic cup .It was dreadful .I accept the bar was busy , but a good bar person knows who is next .At one point a young lady turning to myself and other customers and said " who's next ?" catching her eye i began to give my order, only to be told "i don't serve that part of the bar only the corner it's not my section " turning away she stood there with her hand on her hips .Eventually serving another customer who walked through the door to the corner of the bar . I should gone out the door come back in and to the corner , i guess i'm not that quick witted .After ten minutes standing front and centre at the bar waiting to be served i gave up and went to the toilet .When i returned the young lady was serving a chap exactly where i had been previously standing lol.I approched the bar again stood politely trying to get served .At this point i was the only customer not served .A tall chap with earrings who had spent the five minutes since my return to the bar ignoring me turned my way , only to look over my shoulder to two women and ask them " what they want " as they approached the bar lol.I was made to feel very unwelcome , it spoiled my night/day a bit to be honest, but it's not worth kicking off .I guess i voted with my feet , and went to the Bull down the road .Then continued my night elsewhere .

I absolutely love it here! I’ve been there 3 times this year for quizzes with the chasers and I honestly love it. The staff are so friendly and chatty, the rooms are warm and cozy and the events are sooo much fun! I’ve travelled from Ireland to come here and I plan to continue coming here. Great atmosphere on a nice sunny day plenty of space indoor and outdoor and great music being played however would prefer a full pint rather than 97% of the glass being filled.

Great location, not far from Custard Factory. Large outdoor area with an outdoor bar too. Music very loud so if you're wanting to talk it will be better to sit inside. Service was slow inside.

I passed by the store before it opened, and I noticed what looked like a Wifi router attached to the outside wall, so I tried connecting it to the outside wall, and it connected for free. I'm posting it there.

Old traditional pub. Service is a bit up and down, seem to have different bar staff every week. Spirits are not cheap, and not very competitive for others in the area. Draught is fine. Menu has been refreshed and does change often. Has a good variety of options. Different days they have different deals on menu. Fri is 241 fish and chip day. Large outdoor seating at the back.

Near the bus station. The very old mattresses thunder when you move, the noise from the patio where people who go to the Pub sit until 12am, can be heard in the bedrooms. They do not have room cleaning service.

If I could put 0 ⭐️ I would. I stayed in the old crown on a Saturday night. I get it it's a pub, it's Saturday it will be noisy. But is there an actual need for loud music up until 4 in the morning? Surely the costumers of the pub should have been kicked out or asked to keep it quiet? That and the isolation is non existent, you'll hear your neighbors caught in the next room. It might be a cheap stay but it's not even worth what you get! Run away, sleep in your car, chances are it will be quieter!

Great atmosphere and in a good location. I like they have kept the traditional pub feel but also with the outdoor space cater for all different events and have music on etc not tried the food but will maybe visit on a quieter time.

The oldest inn in Birmingham; 1368. Decent pint of Guinness. Not bad prices. Brilliant Tudor aesthetics. Very pretty pub. Actually, quite a big pub with a beer garden/events area. It's definitely worth a visit.

I booked a Sunday lunch for 20 on a busy sunny post Birmingham half marathon bank holiday weekend (I know - rubbish timing 🙄) The pub team were great - accommodated allergies, a few last minute changes and the dreaded splitting of the bill. The food was lovely - the Baileys Cheesecake was amazing and it was a great atmosphere. Highly recommend and a big thank you to the two female staff who worked so hard to make it run so smoothly.

Didnt stay offer, just went for dinner, but totally want to stay overnight now. Service was warm and welcoming and the food was served quickly, it was piping hot and gorgeous.

We had a pre-cinema fish&chips here. It was alright tho a tad high at £15 Mrs had a veggie thing. It was alright. Overall? It was passable. Possibly the thickest chips in the whole of England. Prices slightly high

Clean and tidy, beer was also kept well. We went on a week day so it wasn't busy. But imagine it gets busy later on.
