Soda Bread Cafe in Birmingham

Popped in at lunchtime by chance after visiting the Artisan Market. The service was exemplary; lovely, friendly staff who were very welcoming and the food was delicious and fresh (I had tuna & sweetcorn sandwich and an iced coffee), with plenty to choose from. Would recommend and definitely go back!

Staff are extremely welcoming, full English £10.20 beat that in the city. Extremely clean. Breakfast cooked to perfection, But the best is to come.. Please purchase their soda bread loafs in window display.. 100% you will be blown away with the quality. Forget Irish soda bread,no comparison to the soda bread cafe. 10 ⭐ cafe

I would just like to say, a couple days ago I came by and went to get a sandwich but then changed my mind that I only wanted a scotch egg. The woman with short hair started getting angry like I’m not aloud to change my mind, only because her colleague was already cutting the bread and started speaking to him poorly. Personally her service is terrible and started even being hesitant to me like girl, maybe listen to me when I’m speaking and stop being rude: I work in hospitality myself, that is NOT how you treat a customer. I came today to buy something with a friend at 3 and normally you can have jacket potato or panini at that time because they close everything else, she just was rude and said sorry we are closed like no your not I come here all the time. She is a horrible individual, I don’t know what you’re going through or what but you need to reevaluate the way you speak to people, I am a customer not your granddaughter, gain some respect. It’s a shame because all the guys that work there are so lovely 💕 If the owner is seeing this you should really speak to this woman and get her in check and if you are the owner, learn how to run a business. The best English breakfast I had. The staff is friendly and the ambience is good. A must visit for anyone who stays nearby.

What a wonderful little café! The staff are beyond lovely and welcoming, the food is delicious (I had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and it was amazing), and the building is pretty with a lovely view of the churchyard across the road. Prices are very reasonable too. I will definitely be returning.

Lovely staff, there's an old lady, she is extremely sweet. My go to breakfast cafe just 2min walking distance from my place❤️

I tried a vegetarian toast: you can add whatever you want in it from the various menu of adds. The bread was tasty, vegetables were fresh. Latte was OK Very very smiley and open minded old lady brought the order and did my mood for some hours )) Big windows and good view at the square and the cross I think it should expand their opening hours and add coat hooks for guests

Great little find! Had a lovely coffee & a freshly made sandwich. They checked what type of bread, whether we wanted butter & or mayonnaise and also whether we would like salad added. Also, you can help yourself to a magazine if you choose to. Staff were also friendly & helpful, throughout our visit.

Great little find. Friendly local cafe/sandwich bar/ community hub. Excellent variety of hot and cold drinks. Sandwiches on a range of freshly baked breads with a large choice of fillings. We didn't know what we wanted so ended up with a suggestion from the owner for a combination we'd never thought of having. Staff are helpful, attentive, friendly and prices are good. I would recommend a visit.

Lovely cafe, first time order jacket potato it was lovely and enough of everything beans tuna ETC. but today the standards have drop i asked for same again but this time i think they didn’t have any beans.

Non work friendly. Bought a coffee and started sending emails on my laptop to be pressured and told I need to keep spending to work from here. I had a meeting around the corner and just wanted to part somewhere with a coffee beforehand. Will not be returning.

My first visit today but certainly won’t be my last! Coffee tastes like coffee used to before so many options became available and there are no words to describe the friendliness and enthusiasm of the staff. I love it!

What a little treasure of a find and such a warm welcome. The lady in charge was very friendly and attentive and the smiles from the 2 other staff members was a refreshing change in a city venue. Just stopped off today for a mid morning tea/coffee and toast but looking at the food on offer we will definitely seek out the Soda Bread cafe again.

Had a coffee only, it tasted burnt. Wouldn’t recommend if you want decent coffee.

Came here for a late breakfast on Saturday morning. Walked past many times just never popped in and that was our mistake. What an absolutely wonderful cafe. All the staff are so friendly. Will definitely be back for a sandwich and a latte!

If a smile and a warm welcome sets you up for the day then look no further! I had the full English and my girlfriend had poached eggs on toast, made to perfection! So tasty, we forgot to take some pics ha ha. The coffee was really nice too. If we weren't visiting, we'd have certainly bought one of the massive breads that were there. They looked great! Thanks for the smiles and making us feel really welcome.

I come here almost every Tuesday for lunch whilst at uni , the lady at the counter deserves an award. she is very welcoming as are the other staff. she really hosts the whole cafe , the service is brilliant. the food is a high quality. overall the place is an amazing lunch spot whilst in the city centre . highly recommend

We had a great breakfast at this lovely cafe. I had porridge banana and then crusty bread toast, sister had pilchards on toast (!) and third person had a paratha and scrambled eggs! All fab!! Service was also friendly and welcoming

Soda bread is now my absolute favorite! This place is faultless. The staff is incredibly lovely, and the food is consistently fantastic. I've enjoyed both dining in and takeout on my two visits. It's the perfect spot for a peaceful solo meal before or after a hectic day. I'll definitely be returning. Plus, I've heard the bread is baked fresh every morning – that's an added bonus! 🍞👌

Popped in for a quick bite on Saturday morning after an appointment in the JQ. Super friendly owner. Made to feel welcome and nothing too much trouble. My son had a hot chocolate (which he said was the best ever), pancakes and a croissant. I had freshly made chai tea and crusty toast. Food and drinks were lovely and reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

The food was great with a wide ranging menu. I just had marmalade and toast which although simple was just perfect. Thick slices of beautiful crusty bread with the perfect amount of butter and marmalade and plenty of it. The rest of the party had some lovely porridge and a bacon butty. We also ordered sandwiches to take away and again was made with delicious bread and every peccadillo catered to. Great friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

Definitely worth a visit. Delicious coffee. We had full breakfasts, which are cooked to order, but in return for your patience you get an excellent, freshly-cooked plate of everything you would want from a cooked breakfast. Staff friendly and welcoming to both locals and first-timers like us.

Stopped in for a coffee on my way to a work meeting. Owner and staff all very friendly and had great chat. It's was comfortable, warm, inviting - everything you want from a cafe. 100% definitely going back next time I'm in Birmingham.

The product doesnt justify the price. A simple egg mayo sandwich, no trimmings, on batch warburtons bread for £5. More mayo then egg. It took ages to make, they werent busy, it was a 30 second job looking at the product. The packaging made it look the part though.

Love it, love it, love it. The service from the lady is soooo good. She is always friendly, helpful, and generally nice. The bread is apparently freshly baked and delivered each day by a local french baker. The crusty baguettes are a must, regardless of what you have in them. They are just devine. It would be nice to have a larger selection of cakes, especially gluten and dairy free ones. They have a nice selection of drinks and food items to buy too. It is a shame there are steps to get in, which means it isn't wheelchair accessible. I'd love to take my husband there but I can't.

Had a much needed cooked breakfast here at the weekend. It’s a modern cafe but also very traditional. Great Brummy customer service and a lovely atmosphere inside. My full English was good but could have done (I’m sure they would oblige anyway) with the option for a small breakfast or a large!? My partner had a sausage baguette (loads of different bread options) and the baguette was absolutely sensational..very artisan….beautiful bread. Loads of lunch and sandwich options as well.

Nice little cafe serving hot breakfasts until 11:30, then lunches. Everything is made fresh, both eat in and takeout available. Coffee machine coffee, not filter coffee. The staff are really friendly and are happy to make you whatever you want, provided they have the ingredients. Friendly to those with allergens; in discussing needs, in preparing food, and having alternative milks available for hot drinks.

I have eaten here a handful of times now and can wholeheartedly recommend this place. They offer a few different types of things ranging from breakfasts to baked potatoes and sandwiches. You can choose from lots of toppings/fillings as well as the bread you want it on. The bread comes freshly baked and is delicious. The service is also outstanding. Easily one of the best cafes in the area.

Great friendly guys who take pride in everything they do and who they are and what they want the case to be. We use the canal routes that can take us to Soda Bad Cafe when we go into the city.

Very friendly service, and nice environment. I had breakfast with my son, who had a fish finger butty with tartar sauce. This was a decent portion and he really enjoyed it. I had scrambled eggs, beans and toast (sour dough), great start to my morning. I will make a return visit whenever back in Birmingham. Thanks for being so pleasant.

The food was homely and the lady made such a nice chai. However, I was highly uncomfortable with the men who came in, one of them took secret photos of me. So I would say its got some unsavoury people frequenting it

Such a great quiet place on a Saturday. So close to the centre but far enough to not have the chaos. It's cute and the food is good.

Every time we visit Birmingham we make a point of visiting this delightful cafe hidden away near the jewelry quarter. We stumbled across this cafe a couple of years ago. Great friendly staff, super fresh food cooked to order. Delightful atmosphere. It must be good as it appears all the locals continually pop in..Jill's birthday today...and they presented her with a fairy cake and lit candle!!! This is a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

Called in here Monday after spending the night in St Paul’s area and staying at the Bloc hotel . The staff are really friendly and as we ordered 2 sausage & egg sandwiches and 1 bacon sandwich we were recommended to try the crusty bread so glad we decided to try it as it was absolutely delicious. The other member of our group went for egg and beans on toast and was amazed by the portion 2 eggs 2 toast with beans all piping hot and again on wonderfully toasted sourdough. It’s a popular place with local workers as while we were there eating it was constantly busy and I can understand why .. Will definitely call in for a breakfast next time we’re in the area …

Great cafe! I had scrambled eggs & beans on toast, and my husband had full English with toast. The food was perfectly cooked, with good quality ingredients. The toast was sourdough - delicious. The portions sizes are generous too. The staff are also very friendly - I loved the fact I was asked how I like my tea! This place is highly recommended.

There was a very long wait for food which when it arrived we had little time to eat due to parking metre restrictions. By which time our coffee had long been drunk. I asked for à top up FOC which was refused. The guy opposite had to leave before his meal asked for a refund. The actually VG. Seems like they were giving priority take away orders Would recommend asking how long will food take to prepare.

Myself and my partner came across this lovely, corner café this morning. The lady that served us was incredibly hospitable and patient with me as I took forever picking something to eat... But the breakfast myself and my partner had was the delicious breakfast baguette. I had a regular latte and my partner had the decaffeinated coffee and even that delicious. It was a good price for the location that it is in. We had a lovely chat with the lovely lady that served us; whom had impeccable customer service, I wish we got her name but forgot to ask ! Thanks again

It's a really nice place, where both the indoor and outdoor environment is enticing, but what attracts you most is the kindness of the staff. A wide selection of food and drinks is available.

I was early for a hair appointment in the JQ so popped in here for a coffee and bacon sandwich. The cafe is spotless, staff were very welcoming. My bacon sandwich was cooked to perfection and served on superb crusty bread. Absolute perfection.

Literally THE WORST service!!!! Had to wait 30 mins for cold sandwiches spent our whole lunch when they took the money upfront to trap us into staying!! Paid £6 for a baguette

Refused to give me tap water with my coffee because they said they sold bottled water. Find this absolutely shocking for a number of reasons, not least the use of plastic water bottles being entirely wasteful. I have never experienced anything like this and almost always have water whenever I go out. As a local in the JQ I will not be returning and have shared this experience with family and friends

This is such a wonderful cafe. The food is consistently excellent, staff are very pleasant, and the cafe is so clean. You can tell the local office workers go there so should say a lot. It’s a little walk outside the city centre but not too far. It’s worth it for the food. Such good value.

Small cafe, visited for breakfast which was very nice. They have vegan and veggie options as well. Prices were reasonable especially considering the area. They have seats outside to catch the good weather as well as inside. Well worth a visit and I want to go back on a warmer day and sit outside and watch the world go by!

The overpriced food takes ages to come. The bread is beautiful, but is filled with one rashen of bacon? The owner is rude to her staff and openly argues and disrespects the lovely chef there. Tables and chairs are scattered everywhere and is very little room.

We stopped for breakfast on our way home from an overnight stay in the city. What a lovely little independent cafe in a nice area of the city. The service and food where excellent. So glad we found this little place, we always love to support local independent businesses where ever we go rather than the larger chains. The cafe was nicely decorated and spotless. The service was excellent and the food delicious, reasonably priced and all locally produced. Will definitely return in the future.
