Food was delicious, really loved it. Umar was amazing! Super friendly, helpful, respectful and just all-around good vibes. He made me feel really welcome at Damascena and gave some top-tier food recs. You can tell he really cares about giving people a great experience. Thank you Umar!

Top tier food. Sometimes slightly on the colder side. But staff super attentive and helpful. Could do with new tables as all wooden tables are warped.

travelled all the way from Manchester to try this famous coffee house. It was an amazing experience. Wonderful ambiance. Chicken shawarma was good. Karak chai had a unique taste. Knafe was also yummy.

Unfortunately I cannot give a higher score for the food, as I found it bland and slightly greasy. I also question whether the advertised dish in ‘olive oil’ was so, as it did not taste like it. Service was ok but we asked sever times for water and a smile would have been welcoming. The general atmosphere in the restaurant area was friendly and the ambiance good. On the whole the experience was ‘ok’ but overall not ‘brilliant’.

First time here at damscena, and I had travelled all the way from Liverpool, I am absolutely I love with the interior, the ambience and Hossein our waiter gave us the greatest level of detail about the coffee shop, truly an amazing place, the food was 10/10, and Hossein went out his way to help us through our lovely time dining at damascena, outstanding service!

I went to Damascena with a group and we were lucky to be served by Hossein who was was amazing. Really friendly, welcoming, and super helpful from the start. He took the time to go through the menu with us, gave great recommendations, and made sure everything was spot on the whole time. Great place to eat or just gave coffee

Really disappointed with the poor quality of service, hence the low rating. I had booked for a group of 8 but on arrival the staff had only prepared a table for 6 and it took the staff a while to organise additional seats. There were only 6 menus and they didn't provide more. It took over an hour from ordering for the food to arrive. Service was slow and the waiters were not attentive. There was not enough cutlery on the table for the group, and it took the waiters a good 5/10 minutes once they had given us the food to then provide cutlery for us to eat! We just had to sit there waiting with food infront of us but not being able to eat it! They were very slow to provide the bill and claimed they were unable to split it into custom amounts for our group which was very inconvenient. The service charge was high which we refused to pay. Very disappointing as the food itself was great. The menu has an amazing selection of vegan and vegetarian options too. I enjoyed the food but the experience I had with the poor service would put me off returning there.

I popped in here on a whim when I had an hour to pass at New Street. Had the delicious Mixed Shawarma with the Turkish wrap. Will be thinking of that for a while 😋

I wasted my £86 yesterday, everything ordered was rubbish and it was not fresh at all. The meat inside arabiya dish was stale and very bad in taste. Please avoid going there. I regret to waste my hard earned money there.

The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was full of rich flavours and perfectly prepared. Beyond the food, what truly stood out was the service. Our server, Hannah, was exceptional, attentive, friendly, and genuinely made our experience even better. One of the highlights of our visit was the small prayer area available for guests. It’s a thoughtful touch that meant a lot to us, especially since we were ready to pray in a less convenient space. Having a dedicated area made our experience even more special and stress-free. Overall, Damascena provided a fantastic dining experience with great food, outstanding service, and a welcoming environment. I recommend!

Amazing service from start to finish, relaxed cosy atmosphere, great coffee and iced teas, really good quality. Beautiful interior further back in seating area! Didn’t feel too cramped inside. Fast service. Definitely recommend the coffee, really good quality coffee beans great taste, much better than high street coffee shop chains!

Terrible, all what they have from Syria is the decoration, I have ordered the (Palestinian M’sakhan) food was terrible the chicken had a very bad smell (it was off) thank god that I did not try it, I have sent back and asked to waiter to tell the chef to smell it then eat it, you would expect the good chef to come out and ask what is wrong and why his food been sent back, but no reaction from him. I don’t think he understands what food poisoning could do to someone.

Have never found another Syrian cafe/resturaunt that does traditional coffee, and Mashallah it was the best I've ever tasted - beautifully served on a silver platter too. The fresh Kanafeh, Basbousa and fruit tea was delicious too. Whilst I love super sweet food, there's constant customisation on the sweetness of your food if you dislike super sweet food. The atmosphere was amazing, beautifully reminiscent of old Damascus and very comfortable. Thank you for the amazing service, عيد مبارك 🫶

Damascena Coffee House serves delicious food in a lovely ambience, but service is slow, orders took too long. Great for a relaxed meal, but not ideal if you’re in a hurry.

Went for Saturday lunch with friends. Trying booking as the website states can book for groups of 4 or more but were told they don’t take bookings for Saturday lunchtime - need to update website to reflect this

Somewhat Disappointing I visited Damascena Coffee House this week for an afternoon coffee. Upon arrival, I was met by a sign that read “please wait to be seated”; a little ambitious for an establishment that was near empty. Here I stood for about two minutes waiting for the waitress, who seemed to also be performing a managerial role, to look up from her iPad and seat me. This left me feeling largely unwelcome; the only others in the restaurant seemed to be deliveroo drivers picking up orders, a little surprising for a coffee shop however upon reading other reviews I presume it’s the Baklava, as it certainly couldn’t be the coffee. I ordered a cappuccino; it cost £3. The price was reasonable, and so it seems minor to point out that it tasted bitter and over-roasted, lingering on the tongue in a mildly unpleasant way.

We had an amazing time at Damascena today. Our server Hossein was brilliant, very knowledgeable , with great recommendations and friendly. Our food was very tasty and flavourful. Would highly recommend and will certainly return. Thanks

Delicious smell of cardamom and coffee hits you from the moment you walk through the door. Fabulous service from Hossein, and we loved the batata hara spicy potatoes, lamb shwarma, Turkish coffee, sweet dynamo juice and more. Thank you.

Fantastic cafe with a lovely vibe and great food. From the outside, this place looks inviting. The Middle Eastern influence runs throughout from the carefully thought out decor and furniture to the doorways into the kitchen. We had the Damescena Floor Breakfast, which was beautiful and far from the British fayre usually offered. We had a pot of Cardamom Tea, which was so refreshing, and we followed this up with a spiced Spanish latte, which was decadent. They also produce Turkish Delight so we bought a box to take home, it won't last long 😜

I was served the Ramadan menu by Nada who was an excellent server. The food was delicious and it was a great atmosphere as always

Damascena is literally the most wholesome restaurant in Colmore Row. Authentic food ✅ Exceptional service ✅ Value for money ✅ Unique ambience ✅ A special shout-out to our waitress Nada Aly who made our dining experience so delightful on several of our visits!

Very good atmosphere, but food was disappointing to be honest. Not very flavourful, usually good Arabic restaurants will make me feel right at home like my grandma or mother’s cooking, but felt like the food lacked heart and flavour. Chai latte is very good on the other hand and decent service.

Was given a lovely seat at the front of the restaurant that overlooks the cathedral. On ordering they took my vegan order very seriously. I got one of their amazing flatbread wraps which was delicious and filling. I got an earl grey tea with almond milk and the server double checked it was the right milk. Service was lovely, atmosphere is wonderful! I can’t wait to come back and try some more of the menu. Clearly labelled vegan items on the website and menu. Freshly prepared food and the place was spotless. My only note of improvement was there was only one toilet working ans there was a queue going up the stairs which was awkward. They were running out of loo roll and the toilet seat was coming off.

Ordered salmon£soft cheese fatayer, salmon was brown which means it's spoiled. The restaurant refused to change it for the fresh one and refused to refund the dish. I was also told by a staff member they serve brown salmon like this often. Its A shame as it used to be a good place.

Gorgeous food, and very reasonably priced for the portions. Everything was delicious and for those who eat with their eyes they provide take away boxes for the leftovers too. Extremely friendly and efficient service, and all staff very pleasant and courteous - special thanks to our waitress Hannah who very patiently answered about a thousand questions!

Been waiting for 15mnts 3 service staff have passed by and despite trying to get them to take an order...I'm still waiting. I'm going to give it another 10mnts and then if I still don't get served...walking out. Such a shame as food is amazing (been here before and service was terrible then too). I do hope they read these reviews and improve.

The first time we've managed to get in and eat here. Absolutely delicious hummus with mixed meats and the zingy salad. Our tap water never arrived but the food was glorious and we hope to come back soon.

I havent been to Damascena for such a long time, there was a 20 mins wait which we were happy to wait but the service was terrible. I tried to order numerous times but just got ignored. We were waiting over 40 mins to order food and we just walked out, i understand that it can be busy at times but to be ignored is just not on.

Food and service was great, however, it is too loud to have a conversation in.

If u want to come here for lunch and just grab food on the go, forget about it. You will wait for 30 minutes even though you’ve ordered just 1 goddamn wrap. An absolute joke!!! Absolutely unacceptable

Just had the most incredible lunch at Damascena Coffee House in Birmingham! I ordered the chicken shawarma and it was absolutely bursting with flavor. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender and seasoned beautifully, and the accompanying sauces and fresh vegetables were a delightful complement. It was easily the best shawarma I've had in ages! To drink, I paired it with their black tea with mint and honey. It was the perfect refreshing and sweet accompaniment to the savory shawarma. The mint was fresh and fragrant, and the honey added just the right touch of sweetness. It was so soothing and delicious. The atmosphere in Damascena is always so warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. I can't recommend Damascena enough – I'll definitely be back soon!

Very overrated place. Food quality and taste are below average.

Absolutely brilliant little gem! I’ve always meant to visit, but have never got round to it, I have been missing out! The menu has a vast variety of drinks, hot food, cold food, lunches, light bites, breakfast etc.. There is a choice for everyone. The interior is absolutely beautiful, the atmosphere is calming and peaceful. The servers were great, they were really helpful and were keeping a detailed eye on people’s orders to ensure they weren’t waiting too long. The food & drinks were gorgeous, so fresh, piping hot and made with quality ingredients. Cant wait to go back!

Amazing Food. We ordered 4 different dishes between us and every meal was spot on. We also liked each others dishes. Pretty good going that every member of the family LOVED their meals (especially a teenager!). Drinks were pretty special too.

I can’t recommend the ‘calm tonic’ enough, it was recommended by nada and she was absolutely spot on. Also she was a whole vibe.

I always love coming to Damacena the vibes and food is always delicious and never disappoints. Nada took our order today and served us our food. Nada was so lovely and even kind to offer suggestions on what drinks were best to get from the menu and she told no lies the calm tonic was amazing like she said. Nada really made our experience today super enjoyable and engaged in good conversation with us.

Food worth the wait (very good portion size too), cakes pretty good too, but hot chocolate is my favourite. Really great value for money in city centre location.

Tasty Syrian / Levant food with a (very) wide range of choices. Don’t be fooled by the front room as the back room is a hidden gem ! Location is gorgeous with very well decorated ceiling, quiet setting and lovely decors. Option to share small plates (although portions are very generous don’t be fooled by the price / mention of ‘individual’ plates). Special mention for the cardamom tea Kind staff and efficient service.

Excellent tapas-like food & delicious coffees, teas, fresh juices & pastries. Lovely & welcoming middle-Eastern inspired space. If you're a couple they should be able to fit you in if they're busy, but suggest booking if you visit in a group. Highly recommended.

Interior decor really immerses you in the theme, the service is very good, and the “Arabian spicy coffee dallah” is very atypical! Very good hot chocolate (with pastry chocolate).

I love this place. The food is delicious, customer service is fabulous and location is accessible. I visited Damscena to meet a friend. We didn't have a table booked but where accommodated during a busy time. We ordered the winter spice kofta, tabular, cardomen tea, hot chocolate and rafaello cake. The prices were affordable 👌 and food was great as always. I would highly recommend this place.
