Damascena Coffee House serves delicious food in a lovely ambience, but service is slow, orders took too long. Great for a relaxed meal, but not ideal if you’re in a hurry.

Amazing place and atmosphere. I went in on Saturday and had a peach ice tea with a chicken shawarma wrap. Thank you to Hannah who served me :)

Somewhat Disappointing I visited Damascena Coffee House this week for an afternoon coffee. Upon arrival, I was met by a sign that read “please wait to be seated”; a little ambitious for an establishment that was near empty. Here I stood for about two minutes waiting for the waitress, who seemed to also be performing a managerial role, to look up from her iPad and seat me. This left me feeling largely unwelcome; the only others in the restaurant seemed to be deliveroo drivers picking up orders, a little surprising for a coffee shop however upon reading other reviews I presume it’s the Baklava, as it certainly couldn’t be the coffee. I ordered a cappuccino; it cost £3. The price was reasonable, and so it seems minor to point out that it tasted bitter and over-roasted, lingering on the tongue in a mildly unpleasant way.

I went during a busy weekend lunch time and although the wait for food was longer than usual my server, Hamzah, was great and very attentive

Delicious smell of cardamom and coffee hits you from the moment you walk through the door. Fabulous service from Hossein, and we loved the batata hara spicy potatoes, lamb shwarma, Turkish coffee, sweet dynamo juice and more. Thank you.

Damascena is literally the most wholesome restaurant in Colmore Row. Authentic food ✅ Exceptional service ✅ Value for money ✅ Unique ambience ✅ A special shout-out to our waitress Nada Aly who made our dining experience so delightful on several of our visits!

Was given a lovely seat at the front of the restaurant that overlooks the cathedral. On ordering they took my vegan order very seriously. I got one of their amazing flatbread wraps which was delicious and filling. I got an earl grey tea with almond milk and the server double checked it was the right milk. Service was lovely, atmosphere is wonderful! I can’t wait to come back and try some more of the menu. Clearly labelled vegan items on the website and menu. Freshly prepared food and the place was spotless. My only note of improvement was there was only one toilet working ans there was a queue going up the stairs which was awkward. They were running out of loo roll and the toilet seat was coming off.

Very good atmosphere, but food was disappointing to be honest. Not very flavourful, usually good Arabic restaurants will make me feel right at home like my grandma or mother’s cooking, but felt like the food lacked heart and flavour. Chai latte is very good on the other hand and decent service.

Ordered salmon£soft cheese fatayer, salmon was brown which means it's spoiled. The restaurant refused to change it for the fresh one and refused to refund the dish. I was also told by a staff member they serve brown salmon like this often. Its A shame as it used to be a good place.

Gorgeous food, and very reasonably priced for the portions. Everything was delicious and for those who eat with their eyes they provide take away boxes for the leftovers too. Extremely friendly and efficient service, and all staff very pleasant and courteous - special thanks to our waitress Hannah who very patiently answered about a thousand questions!

Been waiting for 15mnts 3 service staff have passed by and despite trying to get them to take an order...I'm still waiting. I'm going to give it another 10mnts and then if I still don't get served...walking out. Such a shame as food is amazing (been here before and service was terrible then too). I do hope they read these reviews and improve.

The first time we've managed to get in and eat here. Absolutely delicious hummus with mixed meats and the zingy salad. Our tap water never arrived but the food was glorious and we hope to come back soon.

Had turkish coffee and Spanish latte- was good

I havent been to Damascena for such a long time, there was a 20 mins wait which we were happy to wait but the service was terrible. I tried to order numerous times but just got ignored. We were waiting over 40 mins to order food and we just walked out, i understand that it can be busy at times but to be ignored is just not on.

Food and service was great, however, it is too loud to have a conversation in.

If u want to come here for lunch and just grab food on the go, forget about it. You will wait for 30 minutes even though you’ve ordered just 1 goddamn wrap. An absolute joke!!! Absolutely unacceptable

Just had the most incredible lunch at Damascena Coffee House in Birmingham! I ordered the chicken shawarma and it was absolutely bursting with flavor. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender and seasoned beautifully, and the accompanying sauces and fresh vegetables were a delightful complement. It was easily the best shawarma I've had in ages! To drink, I paired it with their black tea with mint and honey. It was the perfect refreshing and sweet accompaniment to the savory shawarma. The mint was fresh and fragrant, and the honey added just the right touch of sweetness. It was so soothing and delicious. The atmosphere in Damascena is always so warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. I can't recommend Damascena enough – I'll definitely be back soon!

Absolutely brilliant little gem! I’ve always meant to visit, but have never got round to it, I have been missing out! The menu has a vast variety of drinks, hot food, cold food, lunches, light bites, breakfast etc.. There is a choice for everyone. The interior is absolutely beautiful, the atmosphere is calming and peaceful. The servers were great, they were really helpful and were keeping a detailed eye on people’s orders to ensure they weren’t waiting too long. The food & drinks were gorgeous, so fresh, piping hot and made with quality ingredients. Cant wait to go back!

Amazing Food. We ordered 4 different dishes between us and every meal was spot on. We also liked each others dishes. Pretty good going that every member of the family LOVED their meals (especially a teenager!). Drinks were pretty special too.

I always love coming to Damacena the vibes and food is always delicious and never disappoints. Nada took our order today and served us our food. Nada was so lovely and even kind to offer suggestions on what drinks were best to get from the menu and she told no lies the calm tonic was amazing like she said. Nada really made our experience today super enjoyable and engaged in good conversation with us.

I can’t recommend the ‘calm tonic’ enough, it was recommended by nada and she was absolutely spot on. Also she was a whole vibe.

Food worth the wait (very good portion size too), cakes pretty good too, but hot chocolate is my favourite. Really great value for money in city centre location.

Tasty Syrian / Levant food with a (very) wide range of choices. Don’t be fooled by the front room as the back room is a hidden gem ! Location is gorgeous with very well decorated ceiling, quiet setting and lovely decors. Option to share small plates (although portions are very generous don’t be fooled by the price / mention of ‘individual’ plates). Special mention for the cardamom tea Kind staff and efficient service.

Hamza was our server for today and he was very accommodating. The place inside is so beautiful too perfect for photos.

Excellent tapas-like food & delicious coffees, teas, fresh juices & pastries. Lovely & welcoming middle-Eastern inspired space. If you're a couple they should be able to fit you in if they're busy, but suggest booking if you visit in a group. Highly recommended.

I came back again after 6 years… and the food and drinks still the same quality. I loved and missed my chai latte, don’t think I can find any best chai lattes except at Damascena

Interior decor really immerses you in the theme, the service is very good, and the “Arabian spicy coffee dallah” is very atypical! Very good hot chocolate (with pastry chocolate).

I love this place. The food is delicious, customer service is fabulous and location is accessible. I visited Damscena to meet a friend. We didn't have a table booked but where accommodated during a busy time. We ordered the winter spice kofta, tabular, cardomen tea, hot chocolate and rafaello cake. The prices were affordable 👌 and food was great as always. I would highly recommend this place.

Nada offers an exceptional service filled with warmth and kindness. The staff’s genuine care and cheerful attitude make every visit an absolute pleasure. A truly delightful experience that stays with you!

The date and walnut milkshake hit the spot. The lamb sharwama was dry had to drench in sauce to swallow but still very tasty Baklava sundae taste good as always The harrira soup was like soul nutrition warmed me up very well and went down nicely. Had such a disappointing experience when I had my takeaway today..both the chicken lamb shawarmas were soo dry and where is the tahini?! I love Arabic food as I was born in the gulf living there for 18 years...so having the food with no tahini and being so stingy with the pickles in the wrap was just sad :(

The food was amazing, I spent a week just going out with work colleagues every evening and this place was memorable, had the kofta with tahini as a starter and the lamb & beef shawarma, was just too much, the food was delicious.

Great food, full of flavour. Attentive service. Clearly labelled gluten-free options. Gluten-free bread has milk. There are many vegetarian options. Usually you need to wait for a table as it is busy.

Popped in for coffee we did have to wait for about 5 mins for a table they were quite busy coffee was very nice would go again, not too impressed with the service charge to be honest we had to go to counter to order so questionable what service

I stopped here and got a takeaway flatbread wrap on my way to the station. Delicious food and a lovely place. Eager to come back and have enough time to eat in! (and sample some of the amazing looking baklava etc on display in the glass cabinet)

We had breakfast here, and it was lovely. Our waitress, Nada, was an absolute delight. She made several recommendations, and everything she suggested was marvellous, especially the salmon fatayer.

I recently visited Damascena in Birmingham, and the experience was pleasant! From the moment I stepped in, after waiting 20 minutes, I was greeted by a warm and vibrant atmosphere. The food was fresh, flavourful, and arrived quite quickly, which made the whole experience enjoyable. A special mention goes to one of the two waitresses, Marika, who truly elevated our visit. She was polite and attentive. Her friendly demeanour and exceptional service added a personal touch that made us feel very welcome. Overall, Damascena offers a good combination of decent food and good service.

We have been trying different Arab cuisines across many cities for a long while We haven’t tried any thing like that !!! Food is super tasty , meat is tender and juicy , the portions are more than enough , Vibes are amazing with Um Kulthoum in the background , service is a 5-Stats , long time waiting but it’s worthy Special thanks to Hamza , for his kind hospitality , wonderful service and his great smile

Order 4230 - Went in today after some issues but manager was welcoming and allowed me some compensation for the issues I had encountered. The menu is more extensive in the actual restaurant compared with Deliveroo would be nice to have some of those items included on the Deliveroo menu. I am a repeater customer and I did enjoy the sweet treat I had I think more would order if there were more sweets items included on Deliveroo and shashuka should be available on the menu too as this is missing.

Where to start ,after seeing "Here and Now "at Alexandra theatre we wanted to try Damascena .What a wonderful experience, great staff ,lovely atmosphere and fantastic food. Greetedby Nada ,we had to wait approximately 20 mins but worth it .you can only book table of 4 or more. Do not expect fast food ,all cooked to order but it's worth it. Nada was brilliant, a lovely young lady helped explain and helped us enjoy and emerse in the experience. The choices we made with her help were full of flavour, The lamb dish (Tahini Kofta )wabaked with flatbread on it ,drizzle of honey, amazing. Chicken Shawarma wrap wonderful, Fattuush salad served in a crisp pastry bowl,citrus ,pomegranate molasses was divine and Kibbeh Makliya ,a bulgar wheat and lamb croquettes was brilliant all served with dips . A truly fantastic experience of middle Eastern flavours with peach tea an raspberry heaven smoothie Polished off an enjoyable evening. Thank you to staff . .we will be back

Returning customer here at this branch, it was lovely as always and the food was really nice. there’s a range of vegetarian options which is nice to see. the decor and the aesthetic is pretty but maybe the seating areas in the centre is a little cramped - we asked to move and we’re accommodated which was appreciated :) Our server was Hamza - super kind and helpful. good customer service.

I came in to buy some baklava to take away on a Thursday afternoon. I was served by a grumpy older woman with blondish hair, who was quite rude. I placed my order which I paid for, then expected her to serve me after she printed the ticket. However after she printed the ticket she put it on the counter and walked away towards the back of the restaurant without coming back. I could see they were busy so waited for her to return and serve me. After a while when she reappeared she saw me still waiting to be served and greeted a group of ladies who were waiting for a table. She made eye contact with me then took those ladies to a table at the back. I could only see one other young woman who was rushed off her feet. She acknowledged me and said she'd be right with me. She served me after she finished what she was doing and apologised to me for the wait. She was polite to me. The baklava itself wasn't that nice compared to other branches I've been to, very dry and stale. I had to throw them away the next day. I won't be returning to that branch as the service was terrible due to the older woman. Such a shame really as I've always loved the food and service there.
