The best restaurants in Calne Rural Wiltshire South West

We had dinner on Saturday night and have been to the White Horse quite a few times as we live locally but this time unfortunately, the food wasn’t that good. The staff were lovely but we were not impressed with the quality of steaks we had, also the chips on one meal were not cooked through. I had panna cotta for dessert and it was dry and bland. Overall we were disappointed. The bill for 3 people was around £146 and so we felt the food could have been much better. In the interests of fairness; one of our party ordered haddock and they did enjoy that.

Beautiful lunch with friends today and such a warm welcome. We all had fish dishes which were beautifully cooked and presented, and the rhubarb pavlova dessert was to die for. Looking forward to the next time

Really lovely pub with great food, beverages and and awesome view

I had a great experience from the start. The staff were welcoming and polite. The food was of a great standard and a competitive price. We went for the adults carvery which is fresh off my hot counter similar to Toby Carvery and the kids had a kids carvery. Please see my menu photos for further costs. The entrance is wheelchair friendly and they have the correct facilities to match. Definitely will be going again

There’s nothing not to love about St. Kew Farm Shop. The food in the cafe and the Friday night specialties are just amazing! Beautifully cooked, presented with tastes that make your taste buds come alive! If you haven’t been - you’re missing out!

I confirmed a nut allergy on arrival but was then given a brownie containing nuts. It’s a good job I spotted it before consummation. When I pointed it out the owner was rude about the situation. I’d avoid if you have a serious allergy, the company fell very short on this sensitive issue

This pub is the best find in Wiltshire, support local independent pubs. Their Roast was outstanding we were made to feel so welcome and relaxed, we would love to see them again next year 😊

A great Sunday lunch today - the roast beef was fabulous and the dark chocolate and tangerine mousse along with the gelato ice creams, were superb. Very friendly and attentive staff. Thank you for looking after us today 👍

We were first to arrive and it was still quiet but the cafe was spotless, beautifully decorated and the staff were friendly and helpful. Perfect for a coffee while we waited for the house and garden to open.

Booked lunch during February half term for four (inc my elderly Grandma). Sat in the library and after a few minutes grabbed a drinks menu. I was told someone would come to take our order (bar completely empty) but no one did. I asked at reception if they would take our coats and we were glared at. Would it kill anyone to smile and say hello and goodbye? After 15 minutes we went to se what was happening only to be told they did not have one of the drinks. When we asked what a suitable substitute would be they appeared confused and had very little knowledge. No menus were offered. We were not ushered to our table. Extremely limited menu and the children’s menu seemed preferable but prices inflated. Nothing I couldn’t have cooked better myself and the portions are absolutely tiny. Hardly any atmosphere. Service was very slow. Crumbs on the table when we arrived. No one asked us how our meal was once we had been served, staff wandered around aimlessly. We have been to Bowood several times now as my Grandma likes it but have grown tired of it now and hoping that things will improve which they never do, we will not be returning. It has really gone down hill, not worth the money
