Fantastic food delivery by a first class team, highly recommend the lamb rump with dauphinoise potatoes and the Sunday roast, really enjoyed the starters and desserts as well. All the food is beautifully presented, Matteo is a fantastic chef and Brandon is great at front of house making sure you are well looked after and is very attentive, all backed up with great family and staff to assist.

We ordered a children’s meal and the chips came with salt on!!!!! The bread for the starter was hard in the middle and no baby changing facilities so had to go out to the car to change my baby. Rest of the food was nice, but as a family we didn’t feel welcomed

The food here is exceptional. Great flavours with a Japanese twist to it. If your into food then make this a must visit place

Went for belated Birthday Lunch after being told it was good! We weren’t disappointed it was sooooo good all three of us loved all our 3 courses very very yummy 😋😋 & interesting menu can highly recommend The Duke & can’t wait to go back to try other things on the menu! We stayed over in caravan, lovely little site tucked away. Cafe and farm shop were great, had lovely sourdough bread. Will be back to try restaurant as ran out of time, 👍

Visited the cafe on Saturday morning. Nice room and decor. Outside area at end of large car park. Cakes were good, coffee machine struggled with sudden arrival of 18 cyclists from our club. As a result coffee was quite weak and washy.

We visited and found The Duke to be outstanding! Well priced excellent food, wonderful staff and brilliant service! Lovely rooms and onside farm shop and a campsite for those on the go! We loved it here with a real sense of class! Can't wait to go back. Thank you The Duke Hotel!!

Brandon and Matteo have completely transformed the pub and outbuildings into something very special. The decor and service is first class. We cannot recommend the Sunday roasts enough - portion sizes are spot on enough for you to appreciate it more - they are just to die for. Midway between the inlaws and us, so a random find for a meet up. What a find! Great old building in a lovely spot, clean and well maintained inside and out with cracking food, lovely staff and a cute little cafe on the side. Best of all, dog freindly as well. This will now be our go to meeting place, looking forward to next time already, thanks for a wonderfull experience.

I had house cured salmon with ponzu and Japanese seven spice. With the addition of a little wasabi it really sang. Delicious. The katsu chicken burger was shatteringly crisp and juicy inside. A little more of the sauce would have been nice but it was very good. The chips are outstanding. Bao buns and duck, pork and mushroom dumplings in a kombu and porcine broth, bavette steak...all very good. Offering a menu heavily influenced by Japanese flavours and techniques in Wiltshire is brave. I admire them and pray they will persevere. It makes a lovely change from pub grub. Update: still excellent, and getting better!

Wow. What a treat it is to have this restaurant nearby. The food is some of the best I have had, and the price was outstanding. I've paid a lot more for far less quality food over the years. Caviar starter for £7.50! Superb. I couldn't find anything to fault, service or food, which for me is unusual. As someone who is gluten free, it was such a delight to find I could eat almost 90% of the food on the menu, including dessert. A rare find, and completely out of the park on service, quality and value for money. We will be back soon.

The menu has an Italian and Japanese influence..very refreshing to see something new to the area. I had the house cured salmon for starters which was delectable and my husband had the pork and mushroom tortellini which he said was incredible! We both had the haddock and fries for mains which was also delicious and for dessert (even though we were stuffed) we went for the chocolate tart and the Creme brulee..we was in heaven....the service was attentive and knowledgeable..nothing was too much. We will definitely be returning.

The best food I've ever had in Wiltshire. I've done many Michellen stars but this place was sublime. So friendly, informal and stunning food. The host is a truly beautiful soul. Go guys, you have got it spot on. Finally a stunning place on my doorstep. Thankyou

The food was very nice however, the belly pork dish we had was nothing like belly pork, it was more like a very thin boned out pork chop!

We visited the Duke for the first time this week and we were really impressed. Menu was original with some really interesting looking dishes, which made it a tough decision to pick so we’ll definitely need to go back! The asian influences thought through to ensure a well balanced dishes. Highly recommend the Kimchi Arancinetti and the Pork and Mushroom tortellini starters - very were both fantastic! We’ve already booked to go back for Sunday lunch in a few weeks after recommendations by friends (pictures look incredible!)

Good to see The Duke opened again as a proper venue for food and drink. The Japanese influences across the menu and drinks are interesting and welcome, the proprietors need to ensure that all tastes are catered for however and a wider range of vegetables for example could be considered. The dishes we had were excellent, with tremendous attention to detail especially the sauces. The Mochi for dessert were lovely and a good idea to let the customer decide how much they want. Looking forward to seeing how the menu evolves through the seasons.

Went to The Duke at Hilmarton for a Friday evening dinner with family since it’s changed hands and reopened and can safely say they’ve done an amazing job so far! The food was delicious and varied and I think everyone in our party (there was 6 of us) enjoyed our meals. I particularly enjoyed the Asian twist on a lot of the meals so it had a bit more of a unique feel compared to a lot of the other pubs around the area. We had a very unique starter which was something like a crispy seaweed crisp - it looked odd but was honestly so delicious! I would say the portions sizes are quite small so if you’re a big eater be prepared to spend quite a bit of money or not be totally satisfied, but for someone with a slightly smaller appetite like myself, it was perfect. The owner is lovely and extremely friendly and was quite happy to answer my questions about his new venture in Hilmarton and what he plans on doing with the pub. It’ll be great to see it when the main dining area has been spruced up a bit more to suit the fanciness of the menu but I appreciate that takes time and money. Can’t wait to come back in the future and try the delicious bread again (that was certainly my favourite) and the matcha crème brûlée :) Good luck guys, I really hope you do well at the Duke and we’ll certainly be back!

Restaurant reopened with new captains at the controls, nice light decor, warm friendly welcome, light pleasant atmosphere. Food selection is reasonable as are the prices, the quality and quantity are excellent staff are attentive and friendly. The food is cooked to order so if you want instant food go to McDonalds, if you want a good quality meal, pleasant staff and surroundings, you won't go far wrong with the Duke. Nice garden at the back and your well behaved dogs are welcome with plenty of treats for them too Wheelchair access is available and garden dining overlooking the countryside is an option. The hotel is very good too, I use it as an overflow when I have lots of visitors staying over Update: been returning here regularly since reopening for a Friday evening drink and snack or Sunday afternoon dinner. The menu and quality has matured like a good wine and especially in the colder weather, the roaring wood fire and delicious food is wonderfully welcoming and well worth the effort. We'll keep returning while it's open (closed over Christmas) Returned here many times more with friends and family and the food is still as good today had to grab a box for my desert as it was too tasty to leave today

Hi, I have to tell everyone about my stay at the The Duke Hotel it was a fantastic experience, we booked a 3 night stay with our motorhome. The pitch/field was basic but with a water tap (fresh drinking water) and electric hook up for each pitch and a elan waste point as well all for £20 a night, so 2 adults 2 dogs and a awning really unbelievably vaule. The 2nd night we cooked our own food ( it needed to be used ) I wish now I had put it in the waste bin and gone back to the pub... the food is brilliant, if you want Michelin star food go elsewhere but if you want great food at a very good price this is the place to go triple cooked chips crispy on the outside light and fully on the inside perfectly prepared 6 options to go with them burgers sausages nuggets scampi ect all in a basket and you could struggle to eat it all. Now Sunday lunch I don't have the words to give it justice but ring ahead book a table and give it ago Thank you Frankie for a great time Richard and Nikkie, ella and zabs

Went there for a family birthday lunch, staff catered for all our needs, lovely food, highly recommend.

We visited the pub for Sunday lunch. The reception when we arrived was very unfriendly from both the barman and the waitress, even though we had booked a table well in advance. There was a big mistake made with our order but we accepted this and did not kick up a fuss, we understand that mistakes can be made. The food was a good standard when it arrived but we never received any further service from the waitress. We were not offered any further drinks, even though other tables around us were being asked. Sadly, the treatment we received made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable when it was supposed to be a special occasion. We are locals and will not return, nor will we recommend again. Such a shame as we have been before and enjoyed it previously.

Wonderful Sunday lunch, cooked to perfection. Staff FABULOUS! Friendly, efficient. We had a couple of hiccups however it made our day and we have never laughed so hard. Highly recommend a visit, we certainly will be back ♥️

Visited with family for Sunday lunch. The team working were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food was great value for money and big delicious portions. We had a mix of different roasts and can highly recommend the pork. We will definitely be returning and can recommend it to others wanting somewhere to go for Sunday traditional roast dinners.

Sunday lunch here is really excellent. It is booked very quickly so you need to order well in advance. Franky and Neil are friendly and helpful

My wife and I stayed overnight, spending an evening with friends for a birthday party in the beer garden. They catered for c.40 of us with a spectacular buffet of burgers, chicken, salads, hot dogs, pasta etc. All of the food was tasty, fresh and the chips were incredible. We stayed overnight in one of the lovely rooms in a superking confortable bed, and decided to stay for sunday lunch the next day. The lunch was one of the best roasts I've had. The pork and beef, loads of crackling and sides was soooo tasty. Thank you Neil & Franke. We will be coming to some of your evening events im sure. I would recommend The Duke as a really authentic, fun and well run place and you can see the effort they have put in since taking iver 3 years ago. See you soon Brian & Stace x

While using our local bus service rather than the car we saw flyers on the bus shelter wall that offered Fish and Chips for £8 on Friday 24th June. My wife and I invited our daughter to join us. The Duke is a 5 minutes drive from our home with plenty of parking space. On arrival the car park had more cars than normal, we met the (to us) new owner and staff and found a table. Our drinks order arrived quickly and we, all three, ordered the Fish and Chips. The food and the plates were hot; we all enjoyed our meals. During the course of the meal Neil and Frankie introduced themselves to us. Frankie turned out to be an exuberant lady with a huge smile and a big infectious laugh. We warmed to her immediately. My wife and daughter left before me to shop, I stayed in the bar to chat to a friend I recognised. I soon realised that I knew a couple more of the lads present and was introduced to a few more of them. Unusually for me I accepted a second Guinness; chatted and laughed in good company. Frankie, Neil and other staff members joined in on the conversation that provided the best evening of Craic that I have enjoyed in a long time. Now that we know the people who run The Duke and who have improved it beyond measure we will return for meals and drinks and perhaps return to the idea of The Duke being our local again after the cold hand of two years of Covid that impacted on all of our social lives. Our thanks to Neil, Frankie and the staff for a great evening out.

We have been back here now many times, as a couple, with extended family, with friends and with our three dogs; each and every time we have felt welcome, it has been warm friendly and cheerful. The menu has evolved (particularly the deserts) and we have all enjoyed working our way through the Sunday roast menu - even the fussy pre-teens loved it which is high praise indeed! We use the hotel as spare bedrooms when the grandchildren visit, either for ourselves or the children and the rooms are spacious, pleasant, clean well maintained, warm, welcome and reasonably priced. I would happily recommend the Duke to people of all ages and backgrounds

Family of 5, Sunday lunch, 2 children and three adults. We all had something different, the silverside beef was tender and well cooked, the pork belly was soft and the crackling crispy, amazing roast potatoes and great Yorkshire puddings. All the be desserts were home made and really luxurious and the service was spot on. We will definitely visit again and can't recommend enough.

we visited the duke today and were absolutely delighted! The food was gorgeous and excellent value for money with pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, all round an amazing experience. all food home cooked to perfection and the desserts (especially the honeycomb cheesecake) were to die for. the staff were very chatty and attentive to our needs and especially good with our young children. the pub is located in a beautiful area with a campsite and great views. overall, an amazing day out, and would definitely recommend !!

First time we have been back since it was renovated. New owners are doing a great job, lovely vibe to the place, friendly atmosphere and great service. Food was delicious and we will most definitely be returning!

We had a really fabulous Sunday, I had the vegetarian mushroom Wellington which was soooo gorgeous definitely properly homemade and not frozen rubbish like you get elsewhere, and hubby had the roast pork, which what succulent and with crackling! The veggies that accompanied the were beautifully cooked ( the red cabbage was the best I’ve had anywhere) and plentiful! I even had to give my hubby some of my roast potatoes as I had too many for me which even he struggled to manage too as the portion was so ample, lol! Both were served with a large Yorkshire pudding. We would highly recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed! They even had doggie ice cream for our little pooch which kept her happy too! The pub has been recently been refurbished, it was clean, bright and modern internally but also kept the charm of the old original building. All in all, a really lovely experience with friendly happy to help staff. The whole pub and garden is doggie friendly too which is rare to find these days.

My husband and I went to The Duke at Hilmarton today and had a great roast dinner. We had roast chicken and roast beef. The food was well cooked and piping hot. Tasted just like a roast dinner cooked at home. Both were served with roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding accompanied by a dish of red cabbage, green beans, carrots and peas. There was plenty of gravy, the potatoes crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. For dessert we had apple crumble and custard and a old school jam and coconut sponge with custard. Both desserts were homemade and delicious. Really recommend. Give it a try you won't be disappointed 😊

Absolutely wonderful stay! My husband and I booked a double room for the night as we were staying for a wedding in calne. It cost for £85 for a spacious Double room including breakfast. I was very impressed with the room and breakfast was perfect. The table was laid out with fresh fruit and a selection of cereals and orange juice and they Cooked our fried breakfast to order. Above everything though, we were overwhelmed by the kindness of the owner who was so very friendly and accommodating. He even went above and beyond by driving us back to our car the next day (which we left in calne) so that we didn’t have to order a taxi. What a legend! Highly recommend if your looking for a simple place to rest your head. We shall be going back on our sext visit to calne.

We had issues and had to advance our stay by 24 hours. Cool, clam Gary sorted it all out. Excellent breakfast, a really hot FULL English. Brilliant. Honesty bar and very clean accommodation with plenty of character. Our first choice when next staying in the area.

This pleasant little hotel is made even cosier by the excellent hosting skills of Gary & Carol. Nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are clean and fresh and the breakfast is a monster portion. You will not leave hungry, I guarantee it. Thanks guys, we’ll be back!

We stayed for 1 night and had a lovey nights sleep, we didnt need food or drink but drinks were available to help your self, rooms were lovely and clean and could fault anything. Breakfast was lovely and only met 1 member of staff but he was pleasant and friendly.

Although the food was lovely, I think the owner do not put effort into something that has soo much potential. The rooms were freezing and I think my room was also the store cupboard. They have lost there alcohol lisence. A waste of something that could be amazing

We visited last Friday and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly staff members and the food tasted great too. Would rate this an average Pub though.

On arrival bought two drinks cost £7.50 , my O.H had another pint cost £3.40.Questioned why an orange and lemonade was £4.10? Told it wasn't it was £2.75 by bar staff. Confirmed it with the landlord, and then came back with 35p. Stating it was £3.75!?Another pint was then bought at £3.55!Had finished the bland meal by then, and had been waiting for dessert for 40mins. Only to be told the landlord had mistaken 'I'll have the pavlova' for no thank you I don't want a dessert?We gave up, and went home. I would not recommend this pub, two other people questioned prices whilst we were there also. No atmosphere and the landlord was unfriendly and seemed to begrudge serving his customers.

Decided to try the Duke after being bought from Arkells and could not fault it. We all had starters of homemade soup for my father in law, salmon pate for hubby and i had garlic mushroom on toast and it was just the right portion size, after i had beef and the others lamb, plenty of roast potatoes and veg, proper horseradish sauce, all finished with filter coffee as all too full for desert, hubby had 2 pints stowford, i a pint of stowford shandy and FIL pint of lager, all this and change from £80, cannot fault any of it, would definately go back again, FIL also talking bout lunch on a weekday.

Very disappointed...not worth the money at all. Creamy garlic mushrooms ..no taste of garlic served on a piece of burnt toast...roast beef..fatty with the worst watery gravy we have ever tasted. It's a shame because it could have been so much nicer with a bit more effort.

Stayed here with my friend because I was photographing a wedding in nearby Rockley. The young guy behind the bar couldn’t have been more welcoming. I understand that it’s under new ownership and having chatted with the lovely couple they’re really focused on getting the reputation up. The rooms we had were great, spacious, well equipped and spotless. Breakfast was lovely and the time flexible, great sausages! Would definitely recommend.

The Owner was lovely and friendly and very accommodating. The breakfast was made freshly and was really nice. Starting to become the place to go for Sunday lunch with my local family! My wife and I were playing golf, at Bowood GC, and chose The Duke as a B&B; as it was about 6 miles from the club. We were made very welcome by the young man behind the bar and shown to our room. Clean, comfortable with a large double bed, basic furniture and a small, but modern, en-suite having toilet, roomy shower and washbasin. The pub is situated adjacent to a main road, but there was no audible traffic noise, possibly helped by efficient secondary glazing? Very good night's rest.

We live locally and had a chance to pop somewhere for an early evening drink on a Saturday. We have been here before and weren’t overly impressed but everywhere deserves another chance. On entering we weren’t greeted by the uninspiring barman. We ordered a drink and an outstretched hand just took our money without telling us how much we owed. We sat in our coats as the room was not at all warm, we witnessed two other parties arrive and no one was even offered a hello. We took our empty glasses to the bar and politely said thank you as we left but the two youths behind the bar didn’t even acknowledge our presence. I feel for some companies that strive and fail to survive but for some they get nothing less than they deserve.... this pub will not survive and I will not feel any sympathy for the departing failing owners as they leave. Simple things cost almost nothing but forget them and they cost you dearly.

Lovely food and great that they do half portions on starter main and pudding meaning I could have all 3!

Really disappointed with our meals. The chilli con carne was defrosted and very watery and my rice was out of a packet. The lemon cheesecake, which tasted like cream not lemon, tasted frozen too. Won't be eating there again.

Usually I can find something constructive to add, but this experience just left me cold. It was grim and uninspiring, Very limited menu, unenthusiastic staff, tatty decor (mould in the pictures, veneer peeling off the tables, etc, and then there was the food. Chicken pie was just meat floating in water. Only 2-3 tables with anyone on, and some of them were perpetually grumbling - a truly depressing experience.

Just stopped in for a quick drink and was warmly welcomed by both the regulars and landlord. Drinks excellent (fever tree tonic with the gin) and the loos were really clean. Recommended!

I had the best bruschetta ever warm toast beautifully prepared red onion and tomato topping. The lamb steak which followed was average but vegetables plentiful and hot.Strawberry pimms pavlova excellent z

Stayed for 4 nights with the caravan. Food was very very good and served in a nice cosy area. Good selection of drinks .Staff very friendly and helpful. It had everything we wanted . Even the dogs enjoyed running about in the small field. Hope...

Nos hospedamos aquí durante cuatro días, la utilización del Sitio caravana cl adjunto al pub (sólo para miembros, sólo 5 caravanas) instalaciones básicas, agua y eliminación de agua y un gris loo, pero eso está bien y el sitio está limpio y bien cuidado. La calle principal está ocupada, pero lo suficientemente lejos para no ser una verdadera molestia. Acabamos de comer en el pub, y la comida y el servicio eran geniales. Muy buena relación calidad-precio, se sirve en buen momento y con una gran variedad de comida para todos los gustos. Es un pub así Arkell hay una gran variedad de cervezas. Era muy tranquilo para un jueves. Hay un precioso jardín, y tienen habitaciones de alquiler también. Evidentemente todavía están realizando algunas obras, pero son llegar allí. Sin duda comer allí y es un lugar conveniente para venir con una caravana. Y el perro era bienvenido también en todas las zonas
