This pub should be ashamed to call what they served as a Christmas lunch. It was inedible from start to finish. The starters were a very bland soup or a pate that smelt like cat food. Then the palate cleanser came in the form of a champagne sorbet that no one could eat as it tasted to weird!!! Then the roast dinner turned up. !!!!!! Potatoes that has been left to go cold and reheated. The nasty turkey and ham was that thinly sliced meat that you get in microwaveable roast dinners. And I’m unable to describe the stuffing without using toilet terminology. Visually it looked like a hockey puck !!!! Then to finish came the desserts. The Christmas pudding was like gravel they had swept up off the road and was totally unpalatable. The panna cotta was completely flavourless. The ambience was totally soulless and if you walked through the main bar you could have been forgiven for thinking you were at a wake. And what was the cost for this ???? Nearly £100 a head. As I said. Management should be thoroughly ashamed. My heart goes out to the staff as they were lovely and surely must have been embarrassed. This was actually the pubs 2nd and last chance as we had been a few months previously in a large group of 10 and they got 7 peoples food wrong.

Went for Christmas dinner and not only was it the worst Christmas I have ever eaten it was the worst food I have eaten out of a professional kitchen. If I tried to describe it you would think I was a rival pub making up a fake review. Honestly not only could I criticise every course I could criticise every single element of every course although to be fair the pigs in blankets were edible. If I had been paying by the time the main had come out I would of told everyone in our party not to even touch it...and gladly gone home to eat chips, eggs and beans. If I had been paying I would have gone ballistic at the food but mostly at the audacity that that dared to charge £90 a head . The person in the party who was "treating " is to a Christmas dinner was paying over £500 for the food. If it was a pop up restaurant where you had to pay what you think it was worth ...I would have contacted the owner and asked for compensation for having to eat it. I tried to cover up what I hadn't eaten with my napkin so as not to upset the person paying for us and actually escaped to the loo halfway through and sat on the toilet texting my other daughter how awful it was like on I was on a bad date..... I thought long and hard all night about wether to put a review in as I feel sorry for the chefs and waiters and waitresses as they rely on this pub for making a living. I just cannot get over the fact that someone designed this Christmas menu...and they must of taste tested it and passed it. The only explanation I can think of to justify it is that the chef must have been hijacked in some Die Hard Christmas scenario ( or not Christmas but that's an another whole arguement ) and the cleaner had to take over.!

We visited on Christmas Eve to celebrate our anniversary with an afternoon tea. The staff were very friendly, warm and welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely in the restaurant but I was surprised how quiet it was for a lunchtime. The afternoon tea we opted for was ‘The Pewsham Tea’. The sandwiches were fine, pretty standard ham and tomato, cheese and pickle and a slightly odd humous in white bread, which we were both very unsure about and honestly didn’t work! The sausage roll was seemingly home made and very nice although we were given half a sausage roll each. The scone looked to be a generic very small warmed shop bought scone with jam and cream. The cakes were a real let down to the whole afternoon tea, we were given a very small square of Victoria sandwich each which was completely over filled with the most sickly butter icing and virtually no jam. The carrot cake was equally very small and was over spiced with what we believe to be clove, it was sadly inedible, disappointing for £20.50 a head that this was the only cakes given. We have been for many afternoon teas and have rated this as one of the more costly but one of our lowest rated due to the small portions and the poor quality of the cakes.

Went for a midweek quick meal, pie of the day was lamb, pea & mint. The filling was very tasty but just not much of it at all, i’d say a tablespoon maximum! The vegetables were lovely and included heritage carrots, tenderstem broccoli and green beans. Would return as the ambience was lovely and staff attentive, but please add more filling to your pie for £16.50!!

I recently suggested The Pewsham to my elderly parents, as a place to go to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. My Mum has very poor mobility and doesn’t go out much, but agreed to go. Unfortunately they were so disappointed - the carpark was very uneven and it was a struggle for Mum to get into the building with her zimmer frame. They ordered 2 lots of fish & chips and after about 20 mins 1 came out, which Mum started eating. My Dad had to chase up the other, sadly he felt he was being a nuisance to them. Eventually he got his, but the meals were tasteless. They asked for the bill which was brought and he said they had been disappointed as it was their 65th wedding anniversary lunch, but no apologies were forthcoming. It was so sad to end their lunch like that and I hope this makes the Management think what could they have done better.

I had trouble finding the toilets, they were not clearly signposted. In the winter you may need to take a torch as the car park is not illuminated and the ground is a bit uneven. Thank you for your response to my review, we were there around 7ish and when we left your lighting in the carpark had not come on as my daughter and myself had to put our phone torches on. We were parked to the left of the pub at the furthest point away.

Great coffee. The staff were really nice. Most food looked great, however... The hake dish is an insult to the customers. It looked like a starter. For £24 I expected to have a decent piece of fish, but instead went home hungry. The potato cake underneath was mostly raw. There is no crust, just some herbs sprinkled around the fish, which itself was 3x3 inches, half an inch thin (the same size as the potato. All placed in spicy tomato sauce. Whoever came up with the idea needs to have a word with themselves. My partner said that unless there's gold in that 'crust', it makes no sense.... He kept offering to share his food, but there wasn't much of it either. Why didn't I say it at the time? I was at the back of a table in the back room. I'd have to get up, disturb others and find a staff member (as noone was there for over 20 minutes after the mains were served). Secondly, we were with a group of people and I decided not to ruin the good spirits, especially that they suggested the place. I went home and had a cheese sandwich. It was so disappointing. The main ingredients that made my dish (1 potato, 1/3 of a hake fillet and a can of tomatoes) were worth under £5, which makes the margin around 400%. That is not how this should work and the manager knows that. Just stick to your pub classics. Why try being 'posh' if cooking a potato is a clearly a problem?

When we arrived my son in law went to the bar to order drinks and was met by a youngish lad who seemed quite abrupt and had little knowledge of beers! Then a woman came through and her attitude was not respectful. We considered leaving but we had my young grandchildren and they were hungry. We sat in the garden and the children loved the play area. The food was served by very nice, polite staff this time. I had a vegan burger which was nice but my chips were cold. Salad looked as if it had come straight out of a bag of leaves from the supermarket. Three pieces of spinach (my favourite) the rest was rocket. Which I don’t like. No tomatoes, onions or cucumber. All in all we won’t be returning. The manager needs to have consistency of the way the staff behave.

A greatly improved Pub, really great atmosphere and friendly service, I had Lunch and tried the Burger, as yummy as it was I would recommend 3 changes to it (just my opinion) Flame grill the burger, frying it or putting it in an oven just kills it, the bap was a little to dry, try not to over toast it, and lastly there was a sort of mustard sauce, it was nice but a little overpowering, maybe serve it on the side for the customers to apply. That said I would recommend a visit, great place 👍

First time visit for food for me Friday & I was very disappointed with my ploughman’s, 1/2 piece of ham, 1/2 a mini pork pie, 2 small triangles of cheese, a piece of limp lettuce, 4 silverskin onions, a tiny bit of potato salad & chutney, some Cornichons, plus some ‘ rustic ‘ bread. Had to ask for the advertised Apple. The most unappetising Ploughman’s I’ve Ever seen. No tomato or cucumber even just to add colour & texture. It was really dull & uninteresting & not very nice at all. I was told my complaints ‘ would be passed on to the kitchen ‘. The kitchen clearly didn’t care as I was charged the full £13.50 for half a dozen mouthfuls of food. Dreadful. My friends Brie & bacon & cranberry ciabatta with homemade slaw was ok. The coffee & cake after was very nice. I feel at £13.50 the ‘ Ploughman’s ‘ is vastly overpriced based on the quality & quantity ( or lack thereof ) I received yesterday.

I’ve created an account to review this place as I want the managers to see this to give a little feedback. It’s a difficult decision to rate any higher or lower… I came in with my family a week ago and everything was going very well, we had a conversation with our waitress she was ever so nice, as we ordered our food and drinks we noticed that our waitress was being told to do multiple things at once and we could see she was getting quite stressed but she still carried on being so nice to me and my mum and sisters. Our drinks and food were all correct but I have to say I’ve seen lovely reviews on the food but we didn’t like ours so much we didn’t want to complain as we understand that it was busy but a lot of the food you could easily tell wasn’t cooked properly or cooked a few hours or so before and left to dry out. The manager was really nice I believe he was the manger, but the rest of the staff treated our waitress like rubbish she was doing her best yet we could tell the others didn’t like it we said to her while she was removing are plates that she was doing a great job and we could tell it was very nice to hear for her. I believe this place is a great place but I do feel they could treat there staff with more respect as from our perspective it was like she was being spoke about behind her back. Besides that lovely place lovely customer service. Food was okay but I possibly see myself going again someday.

It arrived in small bowl, chips were dried out and cheese stringy from having one piece of cheese slapped on top of chips and had been put under the grill. I couldn’t eat them. £5 charged which should have been waived as the server- seeing I had left most of them- enquired if everything was ok, I informed him of issue with the food. Next up cheesecake which I thought was to be lemon cheesecake but ended up being a biscuit base with chocolate and peppermint mousse on top. I couldn’t taste chocolate as the peppermint was too strong. It was horrible and in my opinion was not a traditional cheesecake. £7 charged I definitely will not be returning. Lovely down to earth place with a split personality, coming in from the side initially feels like a quiet garden cafe with selection of hot/cold drinks, snack and cakes, carry on walking through and you find a very traditional English pub and bar, where the staff were very warm and welcoming. We were in early so had our choice of seating options, proceeded to have a lovely mains and desert lunch (recommend the pie of the day and gingerbread options). We had a 100th Birthday celebration party for 40 people in 'The Barn' function room. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful in organising the event, and setting up the room on the morning of the event. The room looked great, was set out perfectly with lovely crockery and cutlery, the buffet lunch was excellent and the staff very professional and helpful. Really recommend 'The Pewsham' for an event of this type.

We were a group of 8 and had Sunday lunch in the conservatory. It was light and very pleasant in there. The lamb was so tender and EVERYONE enjoyed their meal

An enticing, chilled out atmosphere with light music in the background and relaxed seating. Ideal for food but also as a spot to catch up with friends and enjoy a high quality coffee (without the a high mark up).

This is the second time that we’ve met friends here for lunch. On both occasions, we have all been very pleased with the meals we ordered. Two of the ladies asked for their eggs to be poached instead of fried and l asked for a change to an item on my fish plate. These requests were implemented without any fuss. Staff are helpful, friendly and polite, we will certainly return.

We went to celebrate our Anniversary this evening, and had a lovely evening. The staff were attentive, service was excellent and the meal was absolutely delicious. I got cold half way through the meal, and the owner was excellent and suggested we moved to the snug were is was warmer, very accommodating, loved the snug and will ask to be sat there next time when booking. We would highly recommend this restaurant with no hesitation. Excellent in all areas.

Good starter (mussels) but disappointing mains. Ordered the chicken supreme with red pepper & cream cheese sauce which the waitress said came with hassle back potatoes. When it arrived the chicken was really dry & overcooked & came with new potatoes clearly not hassle back potatoes. Very disappointed for a price of £22.95

Wanted to share our super experience at The Pewsham. We were a very large group - they made things as easy as possible and everything ran smoothly. They had reserved us a table in a side room, which was ideal so as to not disturb others in the restaurant. We ordered our meals ahead of time and they delivered them to the table by name (no need to remember what you ordered a week ago!) The food was super and the customer service was excellent. Will definitely return.

A group of 14 of us including 1 child plus a baby came here for a pre baby meal. Harriet was easy to communicate with via email beforehand and in person on the day. Pre ordering was straightforward. Thank you for being so flexible 🙂 I would highly recommend the Pewsham for a cosy or group meal. The conservatory is a lovely space and the Pewsham has an outdoor play area, plenty of parking, disabled toilet, baby change and friendly staff. I had the beef burger followed by fruit crumble which was tasty. The vegetarian options were creative and also tasty (vegetable tagine and mushroom and Guinness pie). Thank you once again, Laura and Louis

Lunch and service was great but the table we were seated at didn't allow enough space for through traffic and I was jostled many times by both staff and diners, which rather took the edge off it for me. We moved as close to the wall as possible but the issue was still present, not sure what the fix is but it's gonna deter me from regular visits

My friends and I had the most amazing night at the Pewsham. Steak and ale pie was out of this world. And what topped the night was the 80s disco going on in the function room which we joined in. Such a wonderful impromptu evening with friends will be back again very soon. Thank you so much for the staff excellent service.

Good to see this place is still up to a very good standard, and back to attracting customers, we stopped here for the first time for lunch since it had new owners . Good quality food, excellent service, very welcoming interior and exterior well kept which says a lot when a place is well presented. I would certainly recommend going here, it also has a good menu choice. This place also has a nice back garden and lots of parking.

We were staying in Chippenham and looking for a decent place to eat. We happened to see this pub and looked at the excellent reviews online and must say that the praise given here is very well deserved! The pub restaurant is spotlessly clean and the menu has something for everyone. The staff were attentive and there to ensure that we enjoyed our time. The food was tremendously good and the portion sizes are generous. There is a great selection of drinks on offer and the overall prices were reasonably good so there our experience was totally positive. if only every restaurant was like this! Thank you to all the staff for setting such great standards. An excellent little find so please be sure to book in advance.

Meat undercooked. Rest meal good. Few mistakes and chaotic but good server excellent. Not impressed with the door causing a freezing draught. Being constantly left open . Had to shut it about 15 times and rushed meal to get back to a warm car was so cold. Not comfortable. Hopefully a one off and better in future if call again.

Unfortunately unable to review accomodation, food or service as we were double booked. Apparently landlords wife responsible for this so she was summoned. Landlord then completely ignored us and didnt even offer us a seat let alone an apology, this was left to his wife. She didnt seem well and was apparently in hospital at the time of our booking. She went away, 20 mins later produced £140 to cover the cost at premier inn who had ample availability and she had phoned them. Premier Inn denied any phone calls from Helen. They had one room which went whilst we were trying to book it. Plenty of certificates of awards, shame they are so old and tatty like the pub. I hate being lied to but rudeness, lies and facing a night in the car... Dont book here, disgraceful performance. Tired and niaive, should have insisted they booked it in front of us! Took the edge off Bath Christmas market tbh!
