We came to the dum post for lunch and I have to say the service and the food was top notch. Jessie and Tina were fabulous, they made us feel very welcome and there were smiles and laughs all round. I would recommend to anyone wanting a nice drink or a delicious meal. !!!

Had a really nice time today for my birthday meal. The food was amazing the staff were also amazing. Highly recommend to everyone. Will definitely come back.

Brilliant Sunday lunch today Sunday 3th November 2024 a really welcoming and relaxed Sunday lunch I had roast lamb my wife had roast pork. Service outstanding yes we had a half hour wait for our fresh Sunday lunch but well worth the wait . Sinead who served us (hope i spelt her name correctly) was amazing as were all the other staff . Definitely will go again .

Tina and her team gave exceptional service. They were friendly and efficient. The food was fresh and abundant. It was one of the best Sunday Roasts I’ve ever had.

This is not the weather this was our server summer she was amazing ! The whole team made me feel so welcome . Now to the food ….. lamb lamb lamb! Best dish I have ever had . Cooked to perfection and the flavours complimented each other equally. Sorry I didn’t take a photo as it was gone and I was wondering what to have next .

Didn't book and arrived at a very busy place. Sunday lunch is done by sittings only. I suggest ringing to book as the online system may not be working right for Sundays. Great staff that squeezed us in and were upfront and honest about what they could and couldn't do. Food was lovely and plenty of it. Supplied by their own family livestock farm and other local vegetable farmers. Very recommended 👌

Disappointed in the food and service this evening, 4 adults and 3 children, all 4 steaks were over done, and the whole lobster which was a special was also too tough to even eat. Food took almost an hour and a half to come out, and we simply didn’t have time to have it all re-done etc. Free desserts were offered but again we didn’t have time as we had young children and I had to get to work. Manager begrudgingly took money off the bill, but we won’t be in a rush to come back. Very disappointing for a pub with such a good reputation.

Absolutely amazing food - the “hen of the woods “ was perfect in every aspect-I haven’t had such a wonderful meal in a very long time! Tina was a perfect member of the hospitality staff- subtle yet attentive. We had a lovely evening and would highly recommend!

Seen the reviews and set in a lovely area but sunday lunch was a disappointment. The parsnip was huge and under cooked gravy was very salty and where put on a table in main walk area and had people knocking into chair all the time asked if we could be moved and was told no free tables.

Can’t fault the food, our waitress, or the space. No pictures of food!

The food was absolutely cooked to perfection. I had a caesar salad and my partner had the burger with some onion rings and i can confidently say it was the best caesar i’ve had in my life. The chicken was juicy and soft and cooked exactly right, and i didn’t realise a salad could taste so great! The burger and onion rings were fantastic too. You can really tell how homemade everything was, and how everything was cooked with such care and attention. We were served by Annabelle and Tina and they really looked after us, were extremely lovely and made sure to check in on us often, and the place had a lovely atmosphere. The food came in a very timely manner, and for the price it definitely exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t recommend this place more and we will definitely be coming again.

Excellent! This was our second visit, we made the hour long trip because it was so good first time. The service from Tina and Annabelle was superb. Friendly, attentive and helpful. They were having a very busy lunch service and smiled all the time. We both had Chicken Caesar salad which was the best we have ever had. Chef accommodated changing my dressing. Delicious! Good food and ales reasonably priced, beer garden with wonderful views

An atmosphere second to none! This could quite possibly be one of our favourite mid-week pub visit of all time, why? The food, the vibe, the staff (Tina) and the service completely blew us away. We will definitely be retuning and recommend you visit!

I arranged for a family get together for lunch at the Dumb Post Inn for 26 people. Tina was very helpful throughout with all the arrangements beforehand and especially when our party kept increasing in number. The food was excellent and they catered well for the children although there is no children's play area for them to let off steam. We were very happy with the service and friendly staff and would definitely go there again. Thank you Tina for looking after us so well.

We went to the Dumb Post for a family get together. There were 26 of us and the team coped very well getting the meals out hot and moreorless at the same time. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Tina who was keen to make sure we had everything we needed. I'd definitely go back and would recommend to others.

Had a very enjoyable meal at the Dumb Post Inn last night. It is a bit off the beaten track but was worth every second of the 25 minute drive. Stunning location looking out over the gorgeous Wiltshire countryside. This is a very popular venue so I would highly recommend booking in advance. I have very specific dietary requirements and the staff were very understanding and couldn’t do enough to help. The quality of our food was excellent and I can’t rate their home made brownie enough, it was stunningly moist and chocolatey! The only negative is that due to the size of the kitchen they only have one fryer. If you are vegetarian/vegan or have a fish allergy( like me) then you couldn’t eat their chips as they are cooked in the same oil as the battered fish. That being said, I was offered a great range of alternative potato options to go with my steak. I have worked in the food/hospitality industry for many years and have very exacting standards expectations. I was not disappointed at all and look forward to going back again very soon!

Excellent view and excellent service

The pub itself is in a prime location with amazing views. The table we were seated at was by a window that gave us a brilliant view across the local area. The lady that served us was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu/drinks. Great choice of wines as well as a good variety on the lunch menu. The food was brilliant and the chef has done some great work (especially the basil sorbet!). Definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!

Really love this place, I think it's my favourite within a 10 mile drive of Chippenham. The most beautiful views at the back, looking over the rolling countryside, with a really good patio setup and comfortable seats and tables with umbrellas for sunny days. I've eaten here before and the food is very good, I had a steak (sirloin), bit sad they didn't have a fillet as they're my favourite. But the sirloin was such a good cut of meat it didn't matter to much, the seasoning is better than most places I've been too, salt and peppered with a slightly crispy crust. I think this might also be the only place where I have really enjoyed the sliced tomato, again perfectly seasoned with herbs/salt pepper, garlic too maybe? Anyway it's very good. To top off the meal the fries were also perfectly crisp with a fluffy middle, my only nag here was I would have liked a few more. Also the blue cheese sauce was great, I often buy steak when blue cheese in on offer as I think it makes the meal. I've only given 4 stars, which is a bit harsh it's really 9/10 is because my steak was not medium rare as ordered, it was more on the wrong side of medium. My partners however was perfect, so not sure if the chef just took his eye off it. Anyways great place and great experience. The sort of place you bring guests to show off your local area.

If you are in the area for a Sunday roast you have to go here! The meat and vegetables are all grown by local farmers so supporting Uk farmers which is amazing and you can see where your food came from. They also put on the back of the menu which farm the products came from which is an amazing detail and one of the reasons we keep on coming back. The food itself is the best roast I’ve ever had no matter if it’s the lamb, beef, pork or even the chicken roast. It also comes with a bowl of veggies on the side and the whole meal is a very generous portion that you want to strive to eat very last bite as it all tastes so good. The staff are always so kind and friendly and give it a lovely local feel even to those visiting. It’s a great pub as well for views over the rolling hills and inside is equally as charming.

Gorgeous old pub with magnificent views and lovely patio area get the right weather is amazing

We booked a table for dinner whilst in the area. The pub is situated high up, with fabulous views over the gorgeous countryside. There's a large terraced area to make the most of the views, together with indoor seating. Parking is limited as it was super busy during our visit. Service was quick and efficient and the staff were really welcoming. The food was impressive. Tasty and decent sized portions. My husband had the lamb and I had the cauliflower steak. Both highly recommended 👌🏻. For desserts we had the rhubarb fool and the sticky toffee pudding. The latter was superb; the best I've ever had! Highly recommended and we'll definitely return in the future. Many thanks.

Just come back from a beautiful Father's Day lunch at the dumb post, it was amazing 🤩 The food was absolutely delicious and portions are huge! Unfortunately due to family illness we messed them around a fair bit with our booking but they could not have been nicer and were hugely accommodating. And the icing on the cake was the pub itself, which is in a beautiful location and has a fab atmosphere... we will be back 😀

It's such a shame as reviews are quite good. The lamb was tasty but wouldn't be enough to feed a small child, and this was £27. I swapped my fries for seasonal veg with my steak. but it was unseasoned boiled broccoli and kale, which was bland and boring. Overall, it was very disappointing 😞

Very friendly, outstanding food, best Guinness outside of Ireland and awesome views. Worth ducking off the main road to eat and drink here. We will return.

We hadn’t visited for many years, but so happy we did! Attracted back by the tempting local produce and menu. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and the food was superb. We can’t wait to go back and take friends and family.

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant recently, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The fillet steak with béarnaise sauce was simply outstanding, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a culinary delight that left me craving more. As if that wasn't enough, the dessert was a decadent chocolate brownie that was nothing short of mouthwatering. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance added to the overall charm of the place. A nice country pub, not cheap but as with all things you get what you pay for!

We thoroughly enjoyed lunch at the Dumb Posts on a busy Saturday. Despite a full pub service was friendly and efficient throughout. Thai red mussels were plump and delicious, affogato was a stand out highlight. Lamb and mint pie was well reviewed too. Bought in ingredients such as Marshfield Farm ice cream and pies from Seend are top notch, good 0 per cent beer for drivers too. Excellent pub grub, good value, well done.

This is without a doubt the best Sunday Roast we’ve ever had. Every part of the roast was amazing - meat cooked perfectly and all the veg was so tasty especially the cauliflower cheese.

We visited for the first time on Mothers Day. Lovely countryside setting and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The roast dinner was fantastic!

Superb Sunday lunch, fabulous food great service - thank you Annalise! The roasted Sirloin of beef was SO delicious, succulent and tender… best ever! Husband had the roast pork AND cleared his plate! No mean feat with the very generous portions served here! Son devoured his roast lamb and almost cleared his plate! I would highly recommend a trip out to this outstanding pub.

Ate here on a Saturday night, recommend booking as it was busy. There were 7 of us including children and enough choices on the menu for all. The menu is a bit pricier than usual pub food but very much worth it for the quality. Service is friendly with a lovely atmosphere in the pub. Plenty of parking.

Went to the Dumb Post for a lunch after a visit to the motor museum in Calne. Not to busy but a few tables eating. Although a freehouse they only had butcombe ales on , which was a shame but both were in excellent condition and not to cold. Menu is not large but the food is cooked and presented very nicely with value for money size

Booked this pub for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife’s 70th birthday with the rest of my family a total of 7 people, food was just so good and plenty of it too, the young girls waiting the table were just fabulous and very helpful with nothing being to much trouble, the atmosphere was also superb and will not think twice to book again in the future just really good

Speedy greeting, and initial service was quick. We had the scallops & venison to start, both excellent. Lamb & Chicken to follow, again very good. Felt like a long wait between finishing mains & giving dessert order, we understand as we could see that it got busy quite quickly. Ordered 3 desserts, as we couldn't decide, left us satisfied. Overall excellent service from Meg & phenomenal food! We will be back!

The food was of sensational quality, and there was loads of it. The staff even brought out more veg for us even though we hadn't asked for it, and I suspect if we'd been heroic enough to polish that dish off as well, they'd have brought more. Heartily generous and a heartwarming experience. We were a group of 16, with 3 dogs, and we'd all preordered the Sunday roast. It arrived promptly, and despite having more than we could possibly eat, a few brave souls (myself included) were so lovestruck that we persevered with dessert as well. It was a slow but highly satisfied journey home afterwards

I've been a few times over the last few years, it's not my closest pub, so don't visit that frequently. Food is always a great standard, surpasses expectation, the decor is nice, and service is friendly. When I've come with work at lunch it's been a bit slow sometimes, but typically we're a table of 6 or more so it seems reasonable, and the food is worth the wait.

Came for Sunday lunch with 14 people and two dogs (who were really muddy from a walk but the staff didn't mind) and had one of the best (and biggest) roasts most of us had ever had. Staff were really accommodating, view was great, we'll be back.

Oh that menu. The food is divine! The chef here is excellent and the food reasonably priced for the quality. There are some unusual dishes to choose from as well as standard pub grub. Treat yourself, it's worth it.

Wow wow wow . Let me just start from the beginning . What a picturesque place . We were greeted by the most friendly staff . Are drinks order taken at the table and a view out of the window to die for . An extensive menu but probably the most difficult choice because it all sounded amazing . We chose sandwich of the day , fish and chips and the burger . Honestly we couldn’t fault a thing and coming from my mum that’s quite something 😂. Visit visit visit visit . There evening menu looks amazing and we will be back for that .

Service was great but the food was awful. Fish and chips, sandwich of the day and a burger, kept it simple but was let down. Cannot see it keeping its AA rosette this year, that was by e reason we chose this over other venues and clearly quality has dropped

We had an amazing night here. The place absolutely oozes character and charm, and the food is outrageously good. When we went, the pie of the day was game and 3 of our party ordered it. It was unbelievable, and the gravy was life changing....

Sunday lunch is certainly not gastro-pub standard and sitting by the patio doors which were in constant use was quite uncomfortably cold.

This was our first visit back after quite a few years absence, on a particularly cold but bright and sunny day.. We were met with a warm welcome and wow, it is fair to say, the pub has been transformed...... There's even heating in the gents! Joking aside, terrific food, great service, wonderful setting, even managed to bump in to some old friends. We definitely won't be leaving it long before a return visit. Before and after photos!

The Sunday lunch has a lot of roast options all involving large portion sizes and delicious food. I particularly liked the Yorkshire pudding, gravy, broccoli, carrot and roast parsnip from the vegetarian option. My mum found the lamb leg and roast absolutely fantastic and really made her day.
