More style and price, than substance. Lovely setting, beautiful rambling walled garden with posh servers. But the restaurant food can be really bad! Bean dip (but called something much more lyrical, which I forget) was tasteless/ bland. Even I can just liquidise a tin of beans, and burn a carrot, but I season them properly and do expect much more for the prices. Much is made of local suppliers, and the meat dishes always seem to get better comments from my friends. The veggie food and deserts are expensive and not tasty, original or quality. If you are happy paying highly for meaty food, in a unique setting, then feel free. But I would avoid veggie and vegan (and probably the deserts).

Lovely countryside restaurant - went for lunch in a big group. Had a great bloody Mary and the current vegetarian option. Really enjoyed the meal, excited to come back. Had a little stroll in the garden afterwards to see all the veggies being grown - nice little touch to be able to see.

A birthday treat from my son. Fabulous choice of venue. You just can’t beat the friendliness of the staff. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented. The roast beef was perfection. The sticky date pudding was so light, the clotted cream was struggling to hold it down! It’s a great setting, wonderful decor and the atmosphere was most welcoming. Some of the products can be bought in a deli style shop display by the welcoming counter. You can explore the garden here and they do PYO flowers! Definitely look forward to returning. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Autumn Equinox Long-Table Garden Gathering was a wonderful experience - the beautifully set table, delicious food, and warm service created a very welcoming atmosphere. Greeted with canapés and cocktails while watching the meats being grilled was a lovely touch. The food quality and variety were excellent, offering great value for money and they thoughtfully accommodated dietary needs. The chef’s personal introduction of each course and live music in the stunning garden made the evening even more special. I highly recommend this event and will definitely return.

Words really cannot describe how special this venue is and how much every member of the team at Pythouse put into making sure everything is absolutelty perfect. We got married here on the 22nd June 2024 and also booked the glamping site for our guests to stay in. It really was a home from home, Laura is the most attentive and caring woman I have ever met (apart from my wife). Every little detail was taken care of and it also done in a relaxed informal style that made everything feel stress free. The food, oh my god! If I died and came to Pythouse then heaven is real. Every meal is bursting with flavour, fresh and the portions are spot on. From the canapes to the wedding breakfast then the evening supper every guest said they have never been fed so well and been mind blown with each round. The venue itself is just beautiful, it is natural, welcoming and bursting with the glory of nature. If you get the opportunity to eat in their marquee then this is something not to be missed as looking out on the gardens whilst having dinner is lovely. I could go on for days but if you are thinking of having a wedding here, do it! Thank you to all the team, you made our day so special. Simon & Jenny

What a special experience! The garden was beautiful and inspiring, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff very relaxed and friendly. For us (Dutch people) the menu was a little difficult, but we got some good advice from the staff and everything we ordered was delicious. Really enjoying every bite, with a beautiful view of the garden and in the background a pleasant sound of the English people/language. Also the children loved exploring the garden, the salty bread and the desserts. Thanks again!

The surroundings were brilliant, helped by a rare sunny day we were able to enjoy sitting in the garden. Your staff who looked after us were wonderful, especially helping my wife who suffers from some food intolerances. So nice to see a menu of unusual choices and be totally spoilt as to which to choose, your chef and his team are fantastic, and the quality of the food served did not disappoint. Alas, we live on the north side of the M4 so you are not nearby otherwise we would be with you more often, that said we will be back before not too long.

Such a nicer way to do a Sunday roast - having beef and chicken that’s been reared sustainability and brought to the table on large sharing plates. Vegetables and herbs all sourced from the kitchen garden you’re dining in, under a big sail shade. Portions aren’t huge (in a good way), meaning you don’t need a three hour lie down like so many British roasts these days. Staff are all very nice and attentive, and welcome dogs and children with open arms. Plenty of parking. Allow time before or after to wander the garden

As we walked in the head chef was coaching a staff member to select and pick herbs. That set the scene for a lunchtime dining experience without hyperbole. Pythouse offers a set menu of ethically sourced fare that the fabulous staff will do a far better job of explaining than I can. It’s difficult to describe but, for example, a spelt and cheese arancini-ish nibble is accompanied by a lemon yoghurt; the result is a wonderfully balanced flavour. The environment is relaxed, the staff attentive and the setting lovely (albeit that a wander around the kitchen garden will inspire garden envy..). While the setting appears rustic, the kitchen delivers sophisticated, seasonal flavours for a reasonable price. If this is what they can do during the “hungry gap” I can’t wait to return during harvest.

Pork belly wonderfully done and venison to perfection. Followed up by an amazing oat biscuit, custard and charred strawberries. All staff equally amazing and welcoming. Excellent Ingredients Served with Passion Its not ‘gastro’ or ‘bistro’ or any other kind of ‘o’, but if you are looking for food quality on the plate, friendly service, and a reasonably priced and thoughtful wine list, look no further. For lunch, a single starter of Rye Crisp Breads, Flamingo Pea whip, and garden XO sauce, suggests the kitchen can stretch a long way beyond Sunday roast (we went on a Sunday). The seasonal vegetables were cooked to perfection, our beef a tad tough (supplier issue I think), good yorks pud, and serious deserts. Thank you team x

One of the best vegetarian meals I've had. Such a pleasure to find a restaurant / chefs that allow the vegetables to be cooked to bring out their very best flavours and for them to stand centre stage on the plate. A huge and welcome contrast to so many restaurants / chefs may use plant based ingredients but feel the need to ape the taste, texture and appearance of meat. Here there is the added bonus of friendly service, a really pleasant ambience and the opportunity to stroll around their walled kitchen garden.

Well first of all some good things, beautiful surroundings and the potato bread was lovely. However my meal the pasta dish was appallingly. We were a large group and the 4 of us who had the pasta were all shocked by how bad it was....

We had a warm welcome from Laura who took us to our table in the conservatory, a spacious room with lovely views and of the walled garden in full Spring mode. Our waitress took our order for drinks and left us to choose our lunch...

We popped down to Quidhampton for the village fireworks hosted by the White Horse. Absolutely AMAZING evening; Fireworks were fabulous (probably 25 minutes of impressive show), DJ Dion kept the kids entertained at a great family friendly disco event in a marquee, there were sparklers for the kids and the bar and grill were a great addition. Queues were significant at times, but not surprising given the popularity of the event. Having been out of the country for a few years, this was our kids' first proper firework night and its going to take some beating. Thank you Quidhampton and the White Horse, we'll be back!

This is fairly local to us and we decided to have an early evening birthday dinner. Even at 6 on a Monday it was pleasantly busy creating a nice atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly and there was a good range of real ales on offer including 3 kegs of guest beers. Food choice was exceptional to the point of making it hard to decide which of several options to choose. When it arrived the food was extremely good and well presented. All in all a very good experience.

This place probably doesn’t need anymore good reviews but it certainly earned one. Ate here for a long lunch with friends who I hadn’t seen for years so there was a lot of talking and catching up. The place lends itself to that. It is comfortable, friendly, relaxed but the food and the service are absolutely excellent. The owner who was on duty yesterday ( forgive me for not catching your name) couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. He paced his service around pauses in our conversation and made us feel very welcome. He also caught on to the fact we were ex military and upon showing proof gave us a generous discount, which was very much appreciated. We stayed through the afternoon chatting away, and he kindly left us in peace . An absolutely lovely place, thanks for looking after us.
