Family wake held here, food,staff were fantastic nothing to much trouble and cost was exceptional

I had a stall yesterday at the family fun day,I would like to thank the landlord,the staff and the customers who were so helpful,helping unload and load back up this is my favourite place to run a stall as it’s so friendly,if I lived closer I would definitely be a regular,great pub great atmosphere great landlord,thanks to those who helped

A great pub to meet family and friends for a drink..they do a cracking roast dinner through the winter months on a sunday and bbq's during the summer..the staff are brilliant..always make you feel welcome.

Visited at a quiet time, it's difficult to get a full impression.

Used the function room for a residents' meeting. Nice local venue, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, nice mix of customers. Dog friendly. Might go back to sample the food.

I was helping at a 70th birthday in the function room. The pub staff were very friendly and helpful. Drinks were good.. Definitely go again.

Sunday Lunch is Superb! Excellent Choices, Great Service, Best Roast in Melksham area by far!

My only complaint was the cost of a pint of larger. Nearly £7 a pint that is a lot of money for a pint. The best part was the food as it was lush.The atmosphere of the place was great and the staff were excellent thankyou very much. I wish to stand corrected about the cost of a pint I got the wrong pub I apologise to the pilot for my mistake it was the pub next to the travelodge sorry if I've cost you any inconvenience.

We held my Dad's 70th birthday party in the function room, it was brilliant. The staff were attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Wouldn't hesitate to use again and would recommend to anyone looking for a space (with a bar) to hold any event! Brilliant.

I used to live on bowerhill many years ago when it was called the pickled pilot. It has been updated a lot since those days. Very friendly atmosphere , extensive selection of drinks & food to order too. Staff are very friendly & efficient.

Glasses are dirty but the beer is drinkable

Busy but service was polite and quick. Staff were attentive Tables were cleared quickly after guests had left and the loos were clean. Spot on friendly pub. 👌 Can't comment on food as we didn't order anything.

Nice atmosphere, if you want to go round for a few drinks and watch sport because that is basically all they have and only serve meals on a Sunday so don't go round if your expecting any food.

Lunch was great. Top service, top produce , bang on all round.

The beer is well kept and reasonably priced. I'd visit again if I found myself in that particular corner of Melksham. It seems The Pilot is a wet pub, unless arrangements have been made for some form of catering. This was the case when I went there. A large pizza was the offering, with a choice of about 4 forms, you know, pepperoni or just cheese or chicken or something else. It was large, but I've had better pizza for a tenner. Mine was distinctly well done, but it came with a couple of dips and a dressed salad. So it was OK. I wish I could have had another pint, but I was driving.

Amazing venue for a party, I had my anniversary celebrations there the food was delicious, the staff were lovely nothing was to much trouble in fact they bent over backwards to make it run smoothly. I can definitely recommend the pilot.

Nice for a quick drink as we stopped on the canal in our boat, quite a few very drunk locals one of which got in a vehicle and drove his white transit home , excellent effort walking to his van without attacking it, great selection of drinks and lovely staff

Visited here for a fund raising event they were holding for the RUH. A friendly pub with a garden.

Rubbish scummy local pub where I watched the @LionsOfficial game before the first test....I felt intimidated and unwelcome in The Pilot which is probably usually full of so called "soccer" or football ⚽️ fans normally but because it was summer it was full of scummy people who had absolutely NO interest in the Rugby I was watching and kept looking at me in a strange way because I was watching rugby....a sport which is probably alien to them!!!!!......Cheers! Pretty good burger meal, nice fries, nice burger not to tall like the fashion of some. Just add mayo to the coleslaw to improve it and wash down with some good ale.

We had food and it was very good, with a nice atmosphere.

We had a family Christmas get together for 10 people and the food was brilliant. Great selection for everyone including the kids and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Great service also

It is 3 years since we ate down our local pub because of a poor experience. The pub has been in new hands for some time and has been getting good reviews for its meals so we decided to try it just after Christmas. Unfortunately all I can say was that the meals were very average. I had fish and chips, the chips despite the menu saying otherwise were basically fries. My wife had hunters chicken which unfortunately was very dry, it appears to have been left under a heat lamp for some time. The service was good and the staff friendly and it is unfortunate that the food did not live up to the reviews we had read.

Came to the Pilot for a meal recently we were the only ones eating at the time.The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was good.I choose chicken with BBQ sauce and cheese, the chicken was very well cooked nice and moist and the skinny chips were hot, however either the sauce had evaporated due to leaving under a hot lamp (together with the salad leaves) or they had run out? Making the meal very dry.If we were to eat here again may choose the tapas.

Brilliant breakfast with good ingredients , Had the full English and was well chuffed with it. The staff are really friendly and do what it takes to make the experience a good one. Clean plates all round.

Although not my usual style of pub, I prefer old style traditional locals, the Pilot is a pub I go to when I am in the area. Unusual for an estate pub it always has a good choice of traditional still ciders, not just the fizzy chemical stuff you normally see. Also a decent choice of cask beers as well, mostly local Friendly staff and the locals are happy to chat with a visitor too Not eaten there but the meals I have seen being served look pretty good I have been a CAMRA member since the mid 1970's and to be honest, the Pilot is better than a lot of pubs in the Good Beer Guide

On a very busy night with indecision playing the pub was full. However to team behind the bar kept us all topped up and lead to us having a great night out. Beer was excellent. Cidre was great and rum at the end of the night was good value for money if you had the double...and no long waits with the staff staying friendly and focused, quick and efficient right to the end..Great venue amazing band and good value for money.

Had an excellent Sunday lunch here today. Food was cooked to perfection and service was very polite and caring.

Went with family as heard it had improved.We had excellent service from a lovely polite young man.Food was well presented and good portions.It's really welcoming to children which is a huge bonus.Apparently new management ?As i eat out in lots of places,I would say this place is great for good value.family friendly.Very reasonable well presented food

Great food, great service friendly atmosphere

We were recommended this place for their steaks by several people. Very polite, proffessional and cheerful staff greeted us and showed us to a table. We ordered drinks and a meal from the table which made a nice change rather than standing at the bar. Very nice man, it turned out he was the manager. Our meals arrived and to my disappointment it was served on a wooden board, Yuk!Just a personal opinion, but it was quickly transferred to a plate with no fuss and they didn't mind at all. I was very happy. However peppercorn sauce was just like water, my steak and my partners were very well done when we asked for medium and medium rare.Chips were a disappointment as they were skinny chips like McDonalds. A good steak deserves steak chips in my opinion. Manager offered to cook another steak for me straight away, I was very impressed and agreed. My partner decided that even though it was not what he ordered he would eat his.Unfortunately my meal was taking so long to cook, my partner was almost finished and I hadn't got my meal. I told the manager that I no longer wanted my meal as I did not want to be eating alone. He was very apologetic and understood. He said there was no charge for my meal or my partners. I am very impressed by the service and WILL go again due to the service and politeness. I think it was a rare mistake with our steaks and they deserve a second chance.

Had a decent amount of parking. Has an outside eating area. Seems like a typical local pub. They had a decent variety of beers and alcohol. Food took an hour and a half to get to our table (only had 3 people in our party). When it did get to us, some of our food was cold and overcooked. Waitress was nice but kept forgetting our order. Overall experience left us bored and underwhelmed. Would not reccomend to anyone.

Under new management (owners) and mich much improved now. Friendly helpful staff, much bigger menu and better quality food. Becoming the good community pub it should be with plenty going on apart from food.

Wow, wow and wow. Just had the best steak I have had in a long time. Cooked to perfection, I opted to have Stilton sauce and my goodness that was absolutely gorgeous and more then enough. I finished it off and when I leave a clean plate(or in this case board) it means I enjoyed my meal. Will definitely be eating here more often. Well done guys

Decided to try the new menu at The Pilot tonight. Our food was delicious and the service was excellent. We had steaks and they were cooked to perfection. We will definitely be going back.

Great atmosphere , friendly staff

We felt we needed to review the very tasty meal that we had at The Pilot on Saturday. From the time that we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome. The food was excellent we had sizzling steak and the mixed meat kebab with skinny fries which were perfectly cooked. I never thought to take a picture but wish I had the presentation and attention to detail was really thought out. The meal itself tasted so fresh it was nice to have the steak hot and lovely cold salad that was fresh and crunchy. We were so full up that we couldn’t fit in a yummy pudding but definitely will be back to give it another go as the puddings looked very yummy. I would say give it a go you won’t be disappointed the whole experience was excellent X

Excellent sandwich and pint of thatchers gold. Superb fish and chips. Excellent IPA and really friendly service. What more can you want.

Exploring friendly places before trying food, friendly has to be 5 🌟 during weekday lunchtime periods, will update as and when we try food and different times

No atmosphere, but landlord friendly enough. Attracts a particular crowd, mostly locals, pleasant people but on their own agenda, which of course is drinking... Lots.

If you want a noisy vibrant pub with sport, it's ideal, not for me but each to their own

Just having pint. Do not believe vaping inside should be aloud esp in front of kids. Never been here before but driven past many times. Long day took me here.

This Pub is a few hundred yards from my home. Frequently visit it, good selection of Wickwar ales and normally a real cider plus guest aleThe landlord Nick goes out of his way to be part of the community often providing free snacks for major sporting events shown here.
