Spacious cafe at the entrance to Bowood, near the car park. So in practise you do not need to pay to enter the estate, to use it. Fair range of drinks and food, but relatively expensive.

Attractive cafe/restaurant with inside and outside seating. Good range of food including vegan and gluten free etc. Panini and baked potatoes are the hot food. The restaurant inside Bowood House does a wider range of hot food at lunchtime. It's just outside the pay gate, so it can be accessed for free!

The treehouse cafe has a limited menu for lunch, rolls, sandwiches & salads. A childrens lunch box. Coffee, teas, cakes and soft drinks. Friendly staff. On one of the hottest day of the year so far, over Easter, we were in need of refreshments to enliven us in the sunshine. Located at the entrance to the garden, coffee/soft drink and cake was just what we needed. There are indoor and pitdoor tables - we chose the relative cool of inside. It was a nice and relaxing way to recover from the heat.

We spent the day at Bowood house with our two children recently, and our lunch at the treetop cafe was awful. My son chose a lunchbox which was 5 items for £5 but the choice was limited. He chose a sausage roll which was dry and old, and when we opened the jelly it had mould on it! Returned it to the staff member who took it and then only removed the other pots with mould, rather than the whole batch. No refund or alternative was offered. I had a jacket potato with brown slushy salad leaves, and a lemon drizzle cake which was powdery....a very strange unappealing texture. Everything is really overpriced for what they offer. Very disappointing as I was considering a yearly membership to Bowood house and gardens (which is great, by the way, just bring a picnic!)

Good selection of hot/cold meals and sandwiches, also cold and hot drinks. I was going to opt for the salad until I noticed a couple of flys had descended on the cucumber and cheese and thought better of it. I do think more care and attention needs to be paid in relation to covering food in this hot weather!! There was also food debris on the floor that had not been cleared and there was only a dozen people in the cafe !!

You can visit the treehouse cafe without paying to enter bowood, albeit there’s not a lot to look around without paying to get in. However the drive down the lane to the estate is stunning and the carpark is free and vast (grass). Had coffee and cake and sat outside. The mocha was delicious and as good as barista led coffee chains - however £3 for coffees does seem expensive. I was a bit underwhelmed by the cake selection but my cupcake was delicious. It has quite a canteen feel but if you go on a nice day and sit outside it’s lovely. Baby changing facilities etc. Service nice (think her name was Helen ?).

Couldn't some of this be brought here ?The place itself was bare and not inviting . Just lots of kids rubbish pocket money toys left over from last year and tourism leaflets. Whilst I appreciate the day we visited was the opening day for the year. I would of thought there would of been a little more organisation to the place when you think of the amount of advertising there was for the place. Queues stretched well into the car park and you would of been stood there for close to 2 hours is you had arrived after we did.Nice day and plenty for the kids to do but please learn from our rookie mistake. There are way too few food outlets at the place. The main restaurant ran out of food by 13:00 and we shot up to the tree house cafe and queued again. After 40 minutes we were told that there was no food left. Bugger. 2 hungry kids and a dad needing his hourly caffeine fix. We asked for a full refund which they did and then drove down to the Water Meadow in Melksham for food.

My partner and I dropped by the Bowood Treehouse Café last week looking for an lovely autumnal lunch out, we were delighted to be greeted with a warm atmosphere and an array of delish freshly cooked food!Having worked up an appetite walking around the beautiful grounds of Bowood, we opted for the filling seasonal soup of the day and warm homemade sausage roll to share, quickly followed by a generous slice of the delicious lemon curd drizzle cakes – one of my favourites, and we managed to eat every last crumb. both my husband and I are frequent visitors to Bowood as we live nearby. We usually go to the golf club house restaurant of which the food is always excellent, but thought we would give this place a go instead as we had read things had been updated and improved. Our first visit on Monday for a late cup of afternoon tea and scones was very enjoyable and being open until after 4 pm was convenient as well. We thought that a return visit for lunch would be a good idea, especially as I wanted to bring some work colleagues here In a couple of weeks time.We were so disappointed. Plenty of very helpful staff and plenty of room to sit in a lovely venue. The food was dreadful and so over priced. My husband decided on just a sandwich as there was not much choice of food.I ordered a jacket potato at £4.95 and a posh filling of coronation chicken at an extra £1.95. This was served on a tiny plate with what looked like a bit of shredded cabbage and carrot. Plenty of chicken, but the presentation was dreadful. After I had a scone with jam and butter which was stale and a cup of coffee. Very poor value and we won't be returning. I hope things improve next week when the Antiques road show arrives. Honestly I can't see the staff coping as the service is so slow. What a shame. The grounds and house are pleasant enough but not worth the entrance fee. It seems that no time or investment has been put into training the staff in the eateries who are young and disorientated. There was not enough staff employed in either and although pleasant they really did not seem to know what was happening. The dining areas were messy and just looked dirty. I visted this cafe last season and found it soul-less - but this time it looked welcoming and inviting and, once inside we were not disappointed. Being of the older generation, I enjoyed seeing the children playing and I thought the layout was very thoughtful and made best use of space. It's not a restaurant and so I felt the food choices were good for the type of eating place it is. I wouldn't expect a huge menu and the Coronation chicken jacket potato I had was delicious - really delicious. There were some tables with the remains the previous customers had left but what I noticed was that hardly any food was left on those plates so clearly the standard of all the food was as good as my choice. There were places where you could clear dirty crockery to with rolls of kitchen towel and spray provided and i thought that was a brilliant idea so that, if necessary you can clear and clean a place for yourself. As soon as the food queue died down, someone came straight over to deal with the tables. It was lunchtime on a lovely sunny day at a popular tourist attraction but it could have been dull and rainy with hardly anyone there so how do you staff for that?. What I saw was calm, efficient and smiley staff dealing with the queues in the best way they could. As an 'oldie' who has been around a long time and seen a lot of changes in the food we eat I'm always suspicious of cheap food - it has to mean poor quality ingredients and staff who are not paid enough so think about it when you moan about the cost of food when you eat out, please.

After a long walk around the Bowood grounds we decided to regain some energy and have some lunch at the Treehouse Cafe. I was keen to try it as I haven't been there since it's been under Peter Vaughan. I was impressed with the wide variety of meals and snacks on offer. After deliberating between the homemade sausage rolls and fresh salads we both chose the special of the day which was a chicken and butternut squash Thai curry served with pilau rice. It tasted delicious with a great blend of spices and wasn't too hot so would suit all palettes. We finished off with a slice of chocolate cake and coffee which were both excellent too. I was impressed with the level of service as the staff were all so helpful and cheerful and you could tell that they all worked well together as a team and had been trained well. Will we be back? Absolutely!

I am a season ticket holder and have been for some years, so I was looking forward to trying Peter Vaughans new TreeHouse Cafe as I'm a fan of The Bistro in Devizes and thought that the cafe was in need of BIG change, but I was disappointed.I think the table layout is far better than before and the children's play area a great idea, with a separated areas for those not so keen on small children.Being a Saturday lunch time of course it was busy and lots of tables were piled high with crockery, perhaps at busy times a staff member should just be clearing and also making sure that the free tap water is kept topped up if they are going to offer the service of helping yourself to water. The children's box had lots of choices to offer, my daughter chose a cheese sandwich which looked lovely however the taste was very poor, I would go as far to say that the bread had been previously frozen as it was soggy and stale at the same time, I tried some of the cheese which was tasty, but maybe a little too tasty for the younger palate. My choice a bacon, Brie and cranberry panini, looked great but the comment my 9 year old gave me was why did I have a jam sandwich and she was right it was full of cranberry jelly, the Brie was just at the front for the show factor and the bacon the very thin streaky type which although can be very tasty was also in short supply....2 rashers and to top it off half of the panini was cold and it was 5p short of £6 so would have expected more filling, I was not inspired by the salad offered in fact I think the cafes old salad offered far better value for money.I know you expect to pay a premium in this kind of setting....but with Peter putting his name to "The Treehouse" I expected better quality.Apart from the disgraceful cheese sandwich and the appalling panini the rest of the day was fantastic as always (from my 9 year old)Looks like we will stick to our picnics.....

We're big fans of Peter Vaughan who runs The Bistro in Devizes, so as soon as we heard he was taking over the café at Bowood House we knew we must visit to see his take on a café. We weren't disappointed. We arrived after the lunchtime rush and all had a delicious chilli with saffron rice and the best ever wedges with sour cream. Peter also gave us some samples of his hot cross buns, carrot cake and brownies. I was already full but couldn't resist. :-) This place is going to become very popular, I'm sure, with families visiting the adventure playground and walkers as well as visitors to Bowood House & gardens. It's outside Bowood itself so anyone can visit for a meal or drink without committing to visiting the estate. Treehouse is light and airy and the food is great, our chilli was not at all like an average chilli. It looked better (very colourful) and tasted better. As expected, the ingredients were as local as possible.

There were plenty of tables but appreciated it was busy - not all tables were full. We waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive, although coffee arrived much earlier. This was prompted by us asking where our food was/checking the order had been made, to which we were told ‘we’d just have to wait because it was busy’. The food arrived 5 minutes later. The food was tasty and we’ve no complaints about the quality or price. But, something about the system here just doesn’t make sense, queuing at every point and then waiting another 50 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and a bacon sandwich, doesn’t make sense. We arrived at 10 and didn’t leave until 12:15…. People had started arriving for lunch! Sadly, we’d not return. There are just other places nearby that are doing it better.

We booked a table for the opening party, the pub opened earlier in the week with new staff and owners.
