A group of us went for our book club annual dinner and had a great time. Service was excellent and with a smile. Prices were very reasonable too. I opted for onion bhaji starter and then Jhir for main, and oh my goodness that was delicious, both extremely tasty.

Arrived for a meal with family and friends to celebrate 2 birthdays. There were 7 of us! We were not greeted in a polite manner by the young lady by the counter. No smile, no welcoming whatsoever. We were told we could choose between 2 tables already set. I thought it was just a one off but unfortunately, after we sat down, the rest of the family started noticing the moody attitude from the same young lady. It took 1 hour between starters and main course and by then , some of us weren't hungry anymore. Plates were "thrown" on the table - this was noticed by everyone! 45 minutes to get more drinks after we asked for them. 2hrs and 20 minutes from the moment we were all sat down until we left- they had 3 other tables in the restaurant...3 with only a couple of people each. We ended up leaving to pay at the counter because after the main course, no one asked us if we wanted desserts and we got tired of waiting. We paid £238 and all we were told at the end was "here's your chocolates" by the same lady just pushed them over the counter. Wow, this person needs to sort that attitude as I read reviews here and on the website and all were lovely. I was recommended to visit by a friend but won't recommend it to anyone else and won't be going back again. 3 stars is for the very well cooked food and the smile of the young man that was also serving us as and when he could.

Group of 10 booked and we had a lovely meal. We all agreed to come again soon. Good range of dishes on the menu and excellent portion sizes

I’ve been here 3 times since moving locally, and this place has quickly become not only my favourite curry locally but my favourite ever, either takeaway or eat-in. Food is absolutely delicious (momos for starter every time). Add to that that the staff are all freindly and the prices are below average, there really is nothing to dislike. Go there!

Absolutely beautiful location with gorgeous views of Wiltshire and lots of bird activity. Food was delicious and staff were attentive and friendly without being too much 😅 we had the place to ourselves on a sunny Tuesday night enjoying eating in their garden area. Such good value for money too. Highly recommend and will be visiting again and again and taking friends and Family.

My partner and I had an amazing dinner at Gurkha Baynjan. The food was so delicious so flavoursome and tasty. Staff members are very kind and attentive. I had 2 dinners in a row at this restaurant. If we didn't have to travel back to London I would have gone 3rd time to try something else 😋

We visited for a family meal out on a Friday night. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. We were staggered at the portion sizes, the drinks were large, the poppadoms were large, the dishes of curry weren’t just large but included large and plentiful pieces of meat. We all left feeling very full and pleasantly surprised at how low the bill was.

Delicious freshly cooked food and very friendly service. My husband was given a special Nepalese knife to cut his birthday cake. Nice touch! Will be back!

We have not visited recently but were very disappointed by the quality of our meal. We found the food to be bland and small in quantity. We had been looking forward to our return visit but based on this experience, we will not be returning.

First visit , excellent. Brilliant food and service .

Very limited options for Vegetarians so I had a Samosa to start and then rice and two side dishes for my main course. The rice had been reheated it was dry and crunchy, the vegetable dishes I had were sag aloo and kerau paneer. The potato was undercooked with no sight of spinach and the paneer had a nice sauce but the paneer itself was flavourless. Neither side dish had any spice heat at all. Very disappointed.

First rate food, staff always friendly

We booked a table at 9 because we had been out for the day. We were welcomed in with a smile. Our food came out quickly and was just as good as it always is. We ate and drank and did not feel rushed out of the door. They even told us we could sit inside until our lift was here. The girls were very helpful and they chatted about themselves when we asked questions. They are so dedicated to working hard and making everyone happy. The young man at the end was friendly and thanked us for our custom. We have been going here for years now and we are never disappointed

1. We booked table for 8 including 4 kids.. initially went in and asked to see if we can move in conservatory as kids wanted to sit there. Answer from manger was table is booked . But then they could have easily swapped us . 2. Food was great 3. Asked for extra beer and answer from manager was that we have to leave as our allotted time was running out. Kids were so looking forward to have brownies but they couldn’t as it was over booked. 4. Disappointed kids and some adults with the service .

We came here for a meal with friends on a Thursday night. It was quite busy but nothing crazy. There was no warm welcoming and the service was the slowest I have ever experienced. Took half an hour to even come and take our order. I had veg samosa for starter and it was warm in some places and freezing cold in others. The peas inside were clearly still frozen. However the main was lovely and very tasty. Just disappointing on the starter and waiting so long between courses. Won't be returning in a rush

Tiny (expensive) portions. Potatoes in aloo saag were rock hard, served in small, cold dishes so you end up eating cold food, staff often in scruffy leggings (looks very unprofessional and unhygienic). Not impressed.

The food was average and we had to ask for missing items twice which overall made it a disappointing meal. Suprised as had heard good things so was looking forward to out night out there.

Fantastic local restaurant - amazing food

I love the food here. The lamb in the mixed starter is so succulent and full of flavour 😋. I thoroughly enjoyed the mustang lamb with sides of pilau rice, garlic Naan bread, and saag aloo chat.

Highly recommend! 30/11/23 update: For us, Gurkha Baynjan has now established itself as a go to restaurant. It's local (walkable) and offers excellent Nepalese cuisine, which is a step above your average Indian restaurant. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Having eaten here since the opening night this has become our go to for a himali night in or night out. Every dish is superb but especially the Everest Lamb or Himali Hill Boy - tender lamb and brilliant flavour combination

This my first time at Gurkha Banyan and we ate early on a Saturday evening and it was quiet then got really busy later on. The food was excellent. We shared the Special Platter for two (salmon, lamb, chicken and chicken wings) and we loved that. Unbeknownst to us was that the lamb in the starter was the same as the Lamb Sukewa my colleague had ordered for main course. I had the ‘medium’ Mustang Lamb. My dish was pretty much as expected, it was lamb in a wonderfully thick and flavoursome sauce that was spicy without being remotely hot. I also had the keema Nan which was unusual in that the meat was spread on top of the bread and not in it as usual in South Asian restaurants. My colleague had the Peshwari nan and that was similar. The slight wrinkle was that the Lamb Sukewa came without any sauce. It was just 4 big lumps of lamb. As big lumps of lamb go, these were beautiful, with soft meat and a sweet flavour that we both loved. As a main course, it was dry and I would only suggest that if you’re getting the Lamb Sukewa you get something with a sauce as well as otherwise you’ll be hitting the Ghurka beer pretty hard. I can’t fault the quality of the service, the ambience, the cooking or anything about the meal, so they get 5/5.

I arranged a lunchtime reunion with friends from around the UK and Hong Kong. The location was ideal, being easy to access on the A4, with plenty of parking space. Despite having to continually adjust the numbers attending the event a couple of times prior to the day, the staff accepted the changes without hesitation, and arranged the tables in a square as I’d requested. On the day, they were as delightful as the food. We couldn’t have hoped for better. Many thanks.

I eat there vegetarian special (not that I am vegetarian) and it turned out to be one of the best meals I have eaten out for a long time.

Lovely place and really nice food

Decided to have a restaurant meal last minute and were greated by friendly staff, who showed us to a table. The staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to what is in the food, being gluten and lactose free they were able to advise if there were any issues with my food choices. Food was hot and very tasty. The restaurant does get busy so it's worth booking a table before your visit.

We pre booked a table for a Friday night as it gets very busy at the weekends. Upon arrival we were greated by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table. We ordered our drinks and food, and sat and had a nice catchup. Starters arrives all cooked nicely and piping hot, presented beautifully, tasted amazing. Mains arrived and again presented beautifully and hot. The food was really tasty and very flavoursome. By the time we had finished our mains we were all full. One of the party is gluten and lactose free when we spoke to the waitress she was able.to answer all our question about what was in the food and advised what was okay to eat and what was not. Overall the experience was very good. Since having the meal in the restaurant we have also had a takeaway and the quality of the food was just as good.

Nicely set out restaurant in what was an old pub. Not sure if waitresses were relatives of the owners but none really appeared to want to be there and that was reflected in the warmth they showed when serving. Food was well cooked but geared massively for the western pallet. If you don't mind this then this is the place for you.

12:30 pm super!!! my father in law wanted to try out this Nepalese restaurant, has been a fantastic tour of different tastes all the ingredients were fresh , tasty and presented in a great way the staff was gentle and friendly well deserved 5 stars we will go back to try something different on the menu for sure highly recommended

This concerns the company's restaurant in the Plough Inn, Grateley, Hants. My wife booked a table on line and received an emailed aknowlesdgment. This was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived we were told we did not have a booking. It was not in the book. Despite my wife showing a member of staff the email, we were once again told it was not in the book. There was no apology. The man muttered something and my wife asked him what he had said and he replied "You wait here. I will set up a table." Eventually he led us to a table that was located in front of the fire exit. There was still no apology. We walked out. I sent the company an email and received an apologetic reply with an offer of two free meals which we accepted. We had a thoroughly pleasant evening. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was good although having ordered a hot Everest Chicken, I was disappointed to discover that it was mild…

Just searched for Sunday evening meal we found this Nepalese restaurant and it was absolutely outstanding. We took starters and main meals. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Very friendly staff. We enjoyed our evening out.

Utterly terrible experience Over 2 hour to revive food, some of which was cold,. Not everything on the order was delivered, what was presented was average. 45 minutes for a drink, terrible food, 60% of the order, all around utterly terrible. Would not recommend. Do do not go. The menu is poor, with spelling mistakes and inadequate descriptions of what is actually not available. We had wrong food delivered after a 2 hour wait, and to be fair, it was average at best. Will never go again, and would advise you give it a miss. Utterly disappointing.

We booked for dinner, a party of four. All our food was excellent, very good prices and service. So pleased we will definitely return.

Nice change of cuisine for the family. Wad directed here by a close by restaurant that had recently stopped serving food. Was glad we took the advice! I had a really good fish curry and there was a mixed bag of other stuff chosen by my wife and kids. Lots of youngsters waiting the tables. Inexperienced, but polite & friendly. Nice experience that I’d definitely repeat.

This was my second visit and the experience was the same as the first. The owner is very polite and ensure he says hello to all of his customers. Drinks were surprisingly ‘cheap’ compared to other places. Half pint of coke was £1.20. Food was absolutely delicious. I had the best momo (dumplings) ever and the mustang curry was really good, well balance flavours with tender juicy meat and generous portion. There was a little hiccup with our bill at the end, but was quickly rectified. Will definitely come again.

Food was lovely, service wasn’t that great, we had to wait for some time for our food. At the end of our meal I asked for the dessert menu and that’s exactly what I got was the dessert menu, nobody bothered to come back and ask us what we wanted, waited for at least half an hour, and so we decided to leave, dessert less

When arriving we was unsure what the food would be like as its a little dated but I must say the food was absolutely beautiful and all fresh one of the best curries I have ever had also price is also extremely reasonable. Also the toilets are immaculate ! All the staff were very young but brilliant!! We will be returning

The food here is amazing. It tastes fresh and light but absolutely packed with flavour. This was my first experience of Nepalese cuisine, but would return if we are in the area again. The service was okay, but a bit of a mixed bag and not a warm welcome when you walk in the door, but the food covers all ills... Well almost as the loss of a star was based on okay service.

A little disappointed after visiting here and the reviews are mostly 5 star or 4 star. We visited for a birthday meal for 6 the bar is split into 2 so one side serves for drinks one side is for food. So the food itself was good but the service of the staff was a little poor. So the staff spent more time at the drinks side watching football and chatting to the public on the drinks side. Poor seating location meant we had to pass the waiters the plates between courses. Also had to leave the table so my friends could get out to use the toilet not ideal when there were 10 other free tables. The waiter questioned the bill after they even received a tip. Disappointed really which is a shame.

Had high expectations of the restaurant as I live in a town where the gurkha regiment are based and where similar restaurants are. Menu looked good and atmosphere equally so. Ordered 'Hillboy lamb' amongst other dishes and when it arrived it was dark in colour and looked delicious. However it had a charred taste and bitter aftertaste. When I queried this with the waitress she went off to ask the chef and came back with an apology. She stated that the chef was sorry as he had burnt the dish, however, still served it. There was no offer to re-cook it and we were still charged for it. The rest of the meal was delicious but the lack of intervention by the owner / manager was disappointing.

Surprised at the great value too as our final bill for 9 people, including starters, drinks (inc alcohol) and meals came to under £300! Will be visiting again! Thanks!

A super meal, as a vegetarian I could choose any meat meal and they were more than happy to substitute with vegetables. Our food was absolutely delicious, the service was great and I would recommend whole heartily.

I needed an early dinner for a meeting this evening, and it's always a worry when you're booked for the time that a restaurant opens, but fears were allayed. On arrival, the staff were all in place and working, they were extremely helpful and the service throughout the meal was exemplary. The food was a delight. I like Nepalese food, and this was authentic, properly spiced without being over-the-top or harsh, and the quantity was more than ample. Two people dining, with drinks and all for less than £50 - no idea how they can do such wonderful food, service, location and ambiance for the price. Thoroughly recommended

Had a birthday celebration meal at the Baynjan last Friday, there were nine of us, most of whom had never eaten here before. We all had a superb time, the food was amazing, the service second to none and the waitresses were always around to take extra orders for food and drink. Big thank you to Baggy for a well run restaurant.

Extremely tasty food! Well worth a visit!

We have been dining at Gurkha Baynjan since literally the first day they opened and the food has been consistently excellent. Always beautifully fresh, flavourful and nicely presented. The prices are reasonable and the menu choices broad enough to please everyone without being ridiculously numerous. Sadly, while the service always used to be really good, including through the various on-again / off-again periods when restaurants could or couldn't open during lockdown, there has recently been a significant deterioration in the quality of service. The staff, though mostly young, were always pleasant and efficient and really good at what they did. Lately though the staff mood and whole atmosphere has changed. There is tension between the staff and the service has gone way downhill. Orders are frequently not taken correctly, there are long waits for food, trying to order replacement drinks is a trial. Not like it used to be at all. Hopefully this will soon addressed and Gurkha Baynjan restored to its previous 5 star quality in all regards. We have tried to persevere but lately have just given up and gone elsewhere. Hope to be back before too long and find things the way they previously were, until the last 2-3 months.

Lovely restaurant with beautifully served starters and mains. The staff are welcoming. They've got what seems to be a new outdoor seating area which we used very recently so would definitely recommend dining in on a sunny evening. Their takeaway is equally great.

First time using the Gurkha Baynjan and had to have take-away because of the pandemic, so I can't comment on the service. The aroma from the food in the car as we were driving home was irresistible and every dish was superb, especially the Paltane Messing and Gurkha Special Chicken Curry. Will definitely be going back.

Great food, well priced (a bit expensive for me, but worth it), good service. Nothing felt like too much trouble, and I’m a fussy customer! Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want a little something special or just a good evening out. My compliments to the Manager.

Fantastic food great service- highly recommend!

Because of lock down, had to have a takeaway from here. Never had Nepalese food before, will return for a proper restaurant service when conditions allow, so can only review the takeaway food. Food was very tasty, and portion size was spot on. Most dishes can be either mild or hot, the hot is not too hot. Food was full of flavour, the chunks of chicken and lamb in the dishes were massive and plenty of them. You can be confident that the food is good quality. Will review the restaurant when we're able to.
